Recently we have reported a number of bulk glass forming compositions in the CuHf-ti system,with the critical thickness for complete glass formation,dc,ranging from 2 mm to 4 *** order to improve the glass forming ability （GFA） getting even larger dc,the prevailing approach is to use complex multicomponent *** strategy has been investigated by us for the Cu-Hf-ti bulk glass forming alloy Cu55Hf25ti20 using 〉1 *** additions of B,Y,Nb,ta,Al,Mn,Si or V but with no significant improvement in the ***,it is necessary,in order to utilise the full potential of the base ternary system,to identify the best glass-forming compositions as a basis for extending the search into multi-dimensional compositional ***,CuxHfytiz alloys,where x=（40-70） ***,y=（5-30） ***,and z=（10-36） ***,were prepared by melt spinning andcopper mould *** composition dependence of the GFA for the Cu-Hf-ti alloys,as measured by dc for rod and ribbon samples,is reported over the composition range given above.

Methyl-eugenol （ME）（1,2-dimethoxy-4-（2-propenyl）benzene）, a natural phy- tochemical, did enhance male Bactrocera carambolae Drew ＆ Hancock （Diptera： tephri- tidae） mating competitiveness 3 d after ingestion. Enhanced male mating competitiveness can significantly increase the effectiveness of the sterile insect technique （SIt）. ME appli- cation to mass reared sterile flies by feeding is infeasible. ME application by aromatherapy however, would be a very practical way of ME application in fly emergence and release facilities. this approach was shown to enhance mating competitiveness ofB. carambolae 3 d posttreatment （DPt）. Despite this added benefit, every additional day of delaying re- lease will reduce sterile fly quality and will add cost to SIt application. the present study was planned to assess the effects of ME-aromatherapy on male B. carambolae mating competitiveness 1DPt and 2DPt. ME aromatherapy 1DPt or 2DPt did enhance mating competitiveness of B. carambolae males whereas ME feeding 1DPt and 2DPt did not. Male mating competitiveness was enhanced by the ME aromatherapy irrespective if they received 1DPt, 2DPt or 3DPt. ME aromatherapy, being a viable approach for its applica- tion, did enhance mating competitiveness of male B. carambolae 1 d posttreatrnent as ME feeding did 3 d after ingestion.

these reflections address the disturbing phenomenon of ＂not knowing what to say＂ to someone who has experienced the immediacy of a traumatic event and who, nevertheless, seeks a word of consolation from us to ease the suffering. the author addresses the inadequacy of consolation as mere verbiage, and then brings to mind an expanded understanding of discourse-as-comportment to offer the possibility of deep consolation for the suffering other in the groundlessness of the tragic situation, which the author calls ＂abysmal consolation＂. In the realization that discourse is also the embodied consolation of being-with the suffering other in a shattered lifeworld, both sufferer and carer of souling are freed up to meet each other in a place that was heretofore presumed to be an alienated and speechless place.

While modern Chinese literature in English translation may be enjoying increased visibility in recent years, prose poetry （Sanwen shi 散文诗） has hardly become a familiar genre （even for those of us in the field of Chinese literature, if I may take myself as an example）. Realizing, furthermore, that Recite and Refuse focuses primarily on contemporary prose poetry and is therefore only tangentially concerned with Lu Xun＇s well-known masterpiece Wild Grass.

When adding sufficient chlorine to achieve breakpoint chlorination to source water containing high concentration of ammonia during drinking water treatment, high concentrations of disinfection by-products（DBPs） may form. If N-nitrosamine precursors are present, highly toxic N-nitrosamines, primarily N-nitrosodimethylamine（NDMA）, may also form. Removing their precursors before disinfection should be a more effective way to minimize these DBPs formation. In this study, zeolites and activated carbon were examined for ammonia and N-nitrosamine precursor removal when incorporated into drinking water treatment *** test results indicate that Mordenite zeolite can remove ammonia and five of seven N-nitrosamine precursors efficiently by single step adsorption test. the practical applicability was evaluated by simulation of typical drinking water treatment processes using six-gang stirring system. the Mordenite zeolite was applied at the steps of lime softening, alum coagulation, and alum coagulation with powdered activated carbon（PAC） sorption. While the lime softening process resulted in poor zeolite performance, alum coagulation did not impact ammonia and N-nitrosamine precursor removal. During alum coagulation, more than67% ammonia and 70%–100% N-nitrosamine precursors were removed by Mordenite zeolite（except 3-（dimethylaminomethyl）indole（DMAI） and 4-dimethylaminoantipyrine（DMAP））. PAC effectively removed DMAI and DMAP when added during alum coagulation. A combination of the zeolite and PAC selected efficiently removed ammonia and all tested seven N-nitrosamine precursors（dimethylamine（DMA）, ethylmethylamine（EMA）, diethylamine（DEA）, dipropylamine（DPA）, trimethylamine（tMA）, DMAP, and DMAI） during the alum coagulation process.

Realizing high work hardening and thus elevated strength–ductility synergy are prerequisites for the practical usage of body-centered-cubic high entropy alloys(BCC-HEAs).In this study,we report a novel dynamic strengthening mechanism,martensitic twinning transformation mechanism in a metastable refractory element-based BCC-HEA(tiZrHf)ta(at.%)that can profoundly enhance the work hardening capability,leading to a large uniform ductility and high strength *** from conventional transformation induced plasticity(tRIP)and twinning induced plasticity(tWIP)strengthening mechanisms,the martensitic twinning transformation strengthening mechanism combines the best characteristics of both tRIP and tWIP strengthening mechanisms,which greatly alleviates the strengthductility trade-off that ubiquitously observed in BCC structural *** characterization,carried out using X-ray diffraction(XRD)and electron back-scatter diffraction(EBSD)shows that,upon straining,α”(orthorhombic)martensite transformation,self-accommodation(SA)α”twinning and mechanicalα”twinning were activated *** electron microscopy(tEM)analyses reveal that continuous twinning activation is inherited from nucleating mechanical{351}type I twins within SA“{351}”typeⅡtwinnedα”variants on{351}twinning plane by twinning transformation through simple shear,thereby accommodating the excessive plastic strain through the twinning shear while concurrently refining the grain ***,consistent high work hardening rates of 2–12.5 GPa were achieved during the entire plastic deformation,leading to a high tensile strength of 1.3 GPa and uniform elongation of 24%.Alloy development guidelines for activating such martensitic twinning transformation strengthening mechanism were proposed,which could be important in developing new BCC-HEAs with optimal mechanical performance.

Encapsulation is a nonspecific, cellular response through which insects defend themselves against multicellular pathogens. During this immune reaction, haemocytes recognize an object as foreign and cause other haemocytes to aggregate and form a capsule around the object, often consisting of melanized cells. the process of melanisation is accompanied by the forma- tion of potentially toxic reactive oxygen species, which can kill not only pathogens but also host cells. In this study we tested whether the encapsulation response is costly in mealworm beetles tenebrio molitor. We found a negative relationship between the duration of implantation via a nylon monofilament and remaining life span. We also found a negative relationship between the strength of immune response and remaining life span, suggesting that cellular immunity is costly in t. molitor, and that there is a trade-off between immune response and remaining life span. However, this relationship disappeared at 31-32 hours of implanta- tion at 25 ± 2℃. As the disappearance of a relationship between duration of implantation and lifespan coincided with the highest values of encapsulation response, we concluded that the beetles stopped investment in the production of melanotic cells, as the implant, a synthetic parasite, was fully isolated from the host＇s tissues .
