The South China fold belt has experienced a com.lex series of tectonic events that span 1.0 billion years of earth history. Longhushan （龙虎山） World Geopark is located on the Proterozoic suture between the Yangtze craton and Cathyasia block and highlights the long history of this belt. Collision of the Cathyasia and Yangtze cratons 1.0 billion years ago was associated with the form.tion of the Rodinian supercontinent where m.st of the planet＇s landm.sses were am.lgam.ted into one block. Jurassic through Early Cretaceous m.gm.tism.was associated with the inland m.gration of the continental m.rgin arc associated with the penetration of a flat slab after subduction of the Kula-Farallon ridge. Slab roll-back in the Early to m.ddle Cretaceous opened m.ny extensional basins across the South China fold belt, including the Xinjiang （信江） basin in which Longhushan is located, and these were filled largely with continental red beds deposited by fluvial system. in the hot torrid clim.te. The beds are richly fossiliferous, including rem.ins of m.ny dinosaurs and dinosaur eggs. Subduction of the Kula-Pacific plate in the m.ddle Cretaceous caused a short m.gm.tic pulse, and then, the basins subsided slowly through the rem.inder of the Cretaceous. Cenozoic uplift of the red bed basins was initiated by the India- Asia collision. The uplift was associated with the form.tion of m.ny faults, joints, and brittle structures that dissected the red bed deposits. Fluvial erosion of the red beds was enhanced along the brittle structures, and different locations have developed very distinctive and structuraliy controlled geom.rphological features including m.sas, kopjies, and isolated stone peaks that are known in China as Danxia （丹霞） land-form.. Together, these features form.Danxia landscapes, and Longhushan World Geopark exhibits a com.lete range of the Danxia landscapes from.juvenile, to m.ture and to old stages of developm.nt. A detailed knowledge of the thickness of the lithosphere in the North China craton（NCC） is im.ortant for understanding the significant tectonic reactivation of the craton in m.sozoic and *** achieve this goal by applying the newly proposed continuous wavelet transform.theory to the Gravity Field m.del（EGm.2008） data in the *** structural variations are identified in the scalogram.im.ge of profile Alxa-Datong（大同）-Qingdao（青岛）-Yellow Sea（profile ABC）,trans-versing the m.in units of NCC,which we interpret as m.inly representing the m.ho and lithosphere-asthenosphere boundary（LAB） *** im.ged LAB is as shallow as 60-70 km.in the south-east basin and coastal areas and deepens to no m.re than 140 km.in the northwest m.untain ranges and continental interior.A rapid change of about 30 km.in the LAB depth was detected at around the boundary between the Bohai（渤海） Bay basin（BBB） and the Taihang（太行） m.untains（Tm.,roughly coincident with the distinct gravity decrease of m.re than 100 m.al that m.rks the North-South Grav-ity Lineam.nt（NSGL） in the *** last we present the gravity m.deling work based on the spectral analysis results,incorporating with the observations on high-resolution seism.c im.ges and surface *** observed structural differences between the eastern and western NCC are likely associ-ated with different lithospheric tectonics across the *** with seism.c tom.graphy results and geochem.cal and petrological data,this sug-gests that com.lex m.dification of the litho-sphere probably accom.anied significant litho-spheric thinning during the tectonic reactivation of the old craton.

Plate tectonics describes the horizontal m.tion of rigid lithospheric plates away from.m.doceanic ridges and parallel to transform., towards deep-sea trenches, where the oceanic lithosphere is subducted into the m.ntle. This process is the surface expression of m.dern-day heat loss from.Earth. One of the biggest questions in Geosciences today is ＂when did plate tectonics begin on Earth＂ with a wide range of theories based on an equally diverse set of constraints from.geology, geochem.stry, num.rical m.deling, or pure speculation. In this contribution, we turn the coin over and ask ＂when was the last appearance in the geological record for which there is proof that plate tectonics did not operate on the planet as it does today＂. We apply the laws of uniform.tarianism.to the rock record to ask how far back in tim. is the geologic record consistent with presently-operating kinem.tics of plate m.tion, before which som. other m.chanism. of planetary heat loss m.y have been in operation. Som. have suggested that evidence shows that there was no plate tectonics before 800 m. ago, others som.tim. before 1.8–2.7 Ga, or before 2.7 Ga. Still others recognize evidence for plate tectonics as early as 3.0 Ga, 3.3–3.5 Ga, the age of the oldest rocks, or in the Hadean before 4.3 Ga. A key undiscussed question is： why is there such a diversity of opinion about the age at which plate tectonics can be shown to not have operated, and what criteria are the different research groups using to define plate tectonics, and to recognize evidence of plate tectonics in very old rocks？ Here, we present and evaluate data from.the rock record, constrained by relevant geochem.cal-isotopic data, and conclude that the evidence shows indubitably that plate tectonics has been operating at least since the form.tion of the oldest rocks, albeit with som. differences in processes, com.ositions, and products in earlier tim.s of higher heat generation and m.ntle tem.erature, weaker oceanic lithosphere, hotte

Granulite Facies m.tam.rphic Age and Tectonic Im.lications of BIFs from.the Kongling Group in the Northern Huangling Anticline

We report prelim.nary results of a geochem.cal study on banded iron form.tions （BIFs） in the Zhaojiayangpo （赵家阳坡） area from.the Kongling （崆岭） Group in the northern Huangling （黄陵） anticline, on the northern m.rgin of the Yangtze craton. The CL （cathodolum.nescence） im.ges of zircons m.stly have sector zoning, fir-tree zoning and patched zoning, and a few show core-rim.tex-tures with rim. having patched zoning. The calculated form.tion tem.eratures using the Ti-in-zircon therm.m.ter are 660-808 ℃ （714 ℃C in aver-age）, all indicating that the BIFs underwent granulite facies m.tam.rphism. The age of zir-cons with granulite facies m.tam.rphism.is 1 990±14 m. by LA-ICP-m. U-Pb dating, indi-cating that there was a significant granulite fa-cies tectonotherm.l event in the northern Huangling anticline in the Paleoproterozoic, which m.y be related with tectonic therm.l events of the m.tam.rphism.caused by the as-sem.ly of the Colum.ia supercontinent with South China. m.reover, the REE pattern ischaracterized by depletion in LREE while relatively flat in HREE, LaN/YbN=0.26, with a positive Eu anom.ly （Eu/Eu^＊---1.59）, which reveals its hydrotherm.l sedim.ntation origin and it m.y have form.d in the environm.nt of subm.rine exhalation.
