As the fifth most common gastrointestinal cancer worldwide,hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)often presents at advanced stages of *** the subset of patients who present with tumor and liver-related features amenable to surgery,hepatic resection—in addition to transplantation—offers the best chance at curative-intent *** can be associated,however,with risk of complications and perioperative death especially among individuals with concomitant portal hypertension,liver fibrosis,cirrhosis,and portal vein thrombosis(1-3).Post-resection liver failure is also a major concern and can be a devasting complication following hepatic resection(4,5).Overall survival following hepatic resection of HCC ranges from only 30–50%,and recurrence can be common depending on the stage of *** turn,there is considerable interest in identifying markers to help stratify patients relative to risk of recurrence and prognosis to define which groups of patients may benefit the most from hepatic resection of HCC(1-5).

Anatolia is the global archetype of tectonic escape,as witnessed by the devastating 2023 Kahramanmaraş earthquake sequence,and the 2020 Samos earthquake,which show different kinematics related to the framework of the escape *** Positioning System(GPS)motions of the wedge-shaped plate differ regionally from northwestwards to southwestwards(from east to west).Anatolia was extruded westward from the Arabian-eurasian collision along the North and east Anatolian fault systems,rotating counterclockwise into the oceanic free-faces of the Mediterranean and Aegean,with dramatic extension of western Anatolia in traditional ***,which is the dominant mechanism for this change in kinematics,extrusion related to the Arabia/eurasia collision or rollback of the African slab beneath western Anatolia is still *** assess the dominant driving mechanisms across Anatolia,we analyze recent GPS velocity datasets,and decomposed them into N-S and e-W components,revealing that westward motion is essentially constant across the whole plate and consistent with the slip rates of the North and east Anatolia fault zones,while southward components increase dramatically in the transition area between central and western Anatolia,where a slab tear is *** phenomenon is related to different tectonic driving *** Arabiaeurasia collision drives the Anatolian Plate uniformly westwards while western Anatolia is progressively more affected by the southward retreating African subducting slab west of the Aegean/Cypriot slab tear,which significantly increases the southward component of the velocity field and causes the apparent curve of the whole modern velocity *** 2020 and 2023 earthquake focal mechanisms also confirm that the northward colliding Arabian Plate forced Anatolia to the west,and the retreating African slab is pulling the upper plate of western Anatolian apart in *** propose that the Anatolian Plate is moving westwards as

Approximately half of individuals diagnosed with colorectal cancer(CRC)will develop colorectal liver metastasis(CRLM)during the course of their disease(1,2).Liver resection is the only potentially curative treatment for patients with CRLM,yet less than 20%of individuals are candidates for resection due to the extent or location of liver disease,underlying liver function and/or presence of extrahepatic metastases(1,2).In addition,the oncologic benefit of liver resection for CRLM is limited by recurrence rates than can be as high as 70%(3).Liver transplantation(LT)for CRLM was initially proposed as an alternative treatment strategy in the early 1990s but was abandoned due to the initial poor outcomes(3,4).The concept of transplantation for CRLM was later revisited in the 2000s by a group in Oslo,Norway that reported promising results in the SeCA-I pilot study(5).Since the completion of the SeCA-I study,the Norwegian group has also published other promising data from the SeCA-II study(6).In addition,other notable outcomes have been reported in the RAPID study(7),as well as another study from specialized centers in North America(8),both of which have revitalized the concept of LT for CRLM.

Recombineering is an essential tool for molecular biologists,allowing for the facile and efficient manipulation of bacterial genomes directly in cells without the need for costly and laborious in vitro manipulations involving restriction *** main workhorses behind recombineering are bacteriophage proteins that promote the single-strand annealing(SSA)homologous recombination pathway to repair double-stranded DNA *** there have been several reviews examining recombineering methods and applications,comparatively few have focused on the mechanisms of the proteins that are the key players in the SSA pathway:a 5′→3′exonuclease and a single-strand annealing protein(SSAP or“annealase”).This review dives into the structures and functions of the two SSA recombination systems that were the first to be developed for recombineering in ***:the ReceT system from *** Rac prophage and the𝜆Red system from bacteriophageλ.By comparing the structures of the RecT and Red𝛽annealases,and the Rece and𝜆exo exonucleases,we provide new insights into how the structures of these proteins dictate their *** the sequence conservation of the𝜆λexo and Rece exonucleases gives more profound insights into their critical functional ***,as recombineering accelerates and evolves in the laboratory,a better understanding of the mechanisms of the proteins behind this powerful technique will drive the development of improved and expanded capabilities in the future.

The burden and psychosocial impact on immediate caregivers of patients with spinal cord injury in a tertiary health facility,edo State,Nigeria

Objective:This study aimed to assess the burden and psychosocial impact of spinal cord injury on the immediate caregivers at a tertiary health facility in Benin City,edo *** and Methods:A descriptive cross-sectional survey design was adopted among 73 family caregivers in the neurological ward of a tertiary health facility using a structured questionnaire as instrument of data *** collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics and multiple logistic ***:Findings revealed that an overall mean of 2.73 indicates that the burden on the caregivers was moderate with a moderate psychological impact(m=2.88)and a high sociological impact(m=3.12).Factors affecting the caregiving provided by immediate caregivers include social and household responsibilities(94.5%),financial situation(89.0%),family support(83.6%),and health status of the caregiver(80.8%).Age(odds ratio[OR]=5.67,95%confidence interval[CI]:1.23-27.17,P=0.027),education(OR=3.75,95%CI:1.05-13.39,P=0.041),and“others”(spouses,siblings,friends,or extended family members)(OR=3.167,95%CI:1.583-6.337,P=0.001)were predictors for high psychological impact while education(OR=0.074;95%CI:0.015-0.370,P=0.001)and caregiving role(OR=3.167;95%CI:0.1.583-6.337,P=0.001)high sociological ***:Majority of the caregivers experience moderate burden,moderate psychological impact,and high sociological *** these factors is essential for developing targeted interventions and support services to address the unique needs of caregivers and mitigate the burden of caregiving on their psychosocial health.
