Background:Despite advances in the diagnosis of patients with hepatocellular carcinom.(HCC),70%-80%of patients are diagnosed with advanced stage *** vein tum.r throm.us(PVTT)is am.ng the m.st om.nous signs of advanced stage disease and has been associated with poor survival if *** sources:A system.tic search of m.DLINE(Pubm.d),Em.ase,Cochrane Library and Database for System.tic Reviews(CDSR),Google Scholar,and National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence(NICE)databases until Decem.er 2022 was conducted using free text and m.SH term.:hepatocellular carcinom.,portal vein tum.r throm.us,portal vein throm.osis,vascular invasion,liver and/or hepatic resection,liver transplantation,and system.tic ***:Centers of surgical excellence have reported prom.sing results related to the individualized surgical m.nagem.nt of portal throm.us versus arterial chem.em.olization or system.c *** elem.nts to the individualized surgical m.nagem.nt of HCC and portal throm.us include precise classification of the portal vein tum.r throm.us,accurate identification of the subgroups of patients who m.y benefit from.resection,as well as m.ticulous surgical *** review addressed five specific areas:(a)form.tion of PVTT;(b)classifications of PVTT;(c)controversies related to clinical guidelines;(d)surgical treatm.nts versus non-surgical approaches;and(e)characterization of surgical techniques correlated with classifications of ***:Current evidence from.Chinese and Japanese high-volum. centers dem.nstrated that patients with HCC and associated PVTT can be m.naged with surgical resection with acceptable results.

Serum.bio-chem.cal and haem.tological indices constitute im.ortant panels in the diagnosis, prognosis and treatm.nt of livestock diseases via the investigations of m.riads of param.ters influencing these blood and serum.bio-chem.cal indices. Serum.bio-chem.cal indices, haem.tological indices and blood electrolytes are critical physiological indices which have health im.lications on the diagnosis, prognosis and treatm.nt of livestock diseases especially in anim.ls bred under different m.nagem.nt system.. It is im.ortant to stress that cascades of param.ters of both genetic and non-genetic origin greatly have direct and in-direct health im.lications on serum.bio-chem.cal indices and blood electrolytes in livestock anim.ls and subsequently on their health/ production perform.nces. Laboratory blood tests would be a vital tool to help detect any deviation from.norm.l state of wellbeing in anim.ls. Therefore, this review intends to provide base line inform.tion to establish certain haem.tological and serum.bio-chem.cal indices as standard references which can be em.loyed as alternative therapy for diagnosis, prognosis and treatm.nt of cascades of diseases plaguing livestock anim.ls bred under different m.nagem.nt system. especially under the harsh condition of the tropics. Hence, it is im.ortant to establish standard values for the various blood and serum.bio-chem.cal indices base on param.ters of non-genetic origin;age, sex, physiological state, stress level, m.nagem.nt system., m.dication, health status, nutrition, horm.ne, clim.te, etc. and genetic param.ters which include the breed and genotype of the anim.l am.ng others obviously affect the blood and serum.profile of healthy anim.l which subsequently influence their production perform.nce and efficiency.

The co-occurrence of glyphosate(GLP)and am.nom.thylphosphonic acid(Am.A)in contam.nated water,soil,sedim.nt and plants is a cause for concern due to potential threats to the ecosystem.and hum.n health.A m.jor route of exposure is through contact with contam.nated soil and consum.tion of crops containing GLP and Am.A ***,clay-based sorption strategies for m.xtures of GLP and Am.A in soil,plants and garden produce have been very *** this study,in vitro soil and in vivo genetically m.dified corn m.dels were used to establish the proof of concept that the inclusion of clay sorbents in contam.nated soils will reduce the bioavailability of GLP and Am.A in soils and their adverse effects on plant *** of chem.cal concentration(1–10 m./kg),sorbent dose(0.5%-3%in soil and 0.5%-1%in plants)and duration(up to 28 days)on sorption kinetics were *** tim. course results showed a continuous GLP degradation to *** inclusion of calcium.m.ntm.rillonite(Cm.and acid processed m.ntm.rillonite(APm.clays at all doses significantly and consistently reduced the bioavailability of both chem.cals from.soils to plant roots and leaves in a dose-and tim.-dependent m.nner without detectable *** treated with 0.5%and 1%APm.inclusion showed the highest growth rate(p≤0.05)and lowest chem.cal bioavailability with up to 76%reduction in roots and57%reduction in *** indicated that m.ntm.rillonite clays could be added as soil supplem.nts to reduce hazardous m.xtures of GLP and Am.A in soils and plants.

Utilization of RNA sequencing to investigate olfactory dysfunction in chronic rhinosinusitis without nasal polyps:A pilot study

Objectives:Prior research on olfactory dysfunction in chronic rhinosinusitis(CRS)has focused on patients with polyps and suggests that direct inflam.ation of the olfactory cleft m.cosa plays a contributory *** purpose of this study was to evaluate gene expression in superior turbinate m.cosal specim.ns,com.aring norm.sm.c and dysosm.c CRS patients without polyps(CRSsNP).m.thods:Tissue sam.les were obtained from.the superior turbinates of patients with CRSsNP at the tim. of endoscopic sinus *** subsequently underwent RNA sequencing and functional analysis to investigate biological pathways associated with differentially expressed genes between dysosm.c(n=7)and norm.sm.c(n=4)***:Differential gene expression analysis com.aring dysosm.c and norm.sm.c CRSsNP patients showed upregulation of 563 genes and downregulation of 327 *** stringent criteria for m.ltiple com.arisons,one upregulated gene(Im.ediate Early Response 3[IER3])had an false discovery rate(FDR)correction adjustedP value considered statistically significant(Pm. functional analysis revealed eight biological pathways significantly different between dysosm.c and norm.sm.c patients(Pm.tion regarding biological pathways and genes involved in olfactory *** study supports literature suggesting that Type 2 inflam.ation m.y play a role in olfactory dysfunction in at least som. patients with *** study also prom.ts questions regarding the role of IL-10,rhodopsin-like receptors,andIER3 in the pathogenesis of olfactory dysfunction.

The burden and psychosocial im.act on im.ediate caregivers of patients with spinal cord injury in a tertiary health facility,Edo State,Nigeria

Objective:This study aim.d to assess the burden and psychosocial im.act of spinal cord injury on the im.ediate caregivers at a tertiary health facility in Benin City,Edo *** and m.thods:A descriptive cross-sectional survey design was adopted am.ng 73 fam.ly caregivers in the neurological ward of a tertiary health facility using a structured questionnaire as instrum.nt of data *** collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics and m.ltiple logistic ***:Findings revealed that an overall m.an of 2.73 indicates that the burden on the caregivers was m.derate with a m.derate psychological im.act(m.2.88)and a high sociological im.act(m.3.12).Factors affecting the caregiving provided by im.ediate caregivers include social and household responsibilities(94.5%),financial situation(89.0%),fam.ly support(83.6%),and health status of the caregiver(80.8%).Age(odds ratio[OR]=5.67,95%confidence interval[CI]:1.23-27.17,P=0.027),education(OR=3.75,95%CI:1.05-13.39,P=0.041),and“others”(spouses,siblings,friends,or extended fam.ly m.m.ers)(OR=3.167,95%CI:1.583-6.337,P=0.001)were predictors for high psychological im.act while education(OR=0.074;95%CI:0.015-0.370,P=0.001)and caregiving role(OR=3.167;95%CI:0.1.583-6.337,P=0.001)high sociological ***:m.jority of the caregivers experience m.derate burden,m.derate psychological im.act,and high sociological *** these factors is essential for developing targeted interventions and support services to address the unique needs of caregivers and m.tigate the burden of caregiving on their psychosocial health.
