High-temperature Oxidation Behavior of Barrel Materials

With the increase in firepower strike requirements and the development of high-powered artillery, the high-temperature oxidation of barrel materials is becoming more and more serious, which seriously affects the performance of weapon and even leads to the scrapping of weapon. However, there is little research on the anti-oxidation performance of barrel materials at present. In this paper, the oxidation resistances and oxidation mechanisms of three barrel materials, i. e.,PCrNi3MoVA steel. 30SiMn2MoVA steel and MPS700 steel, at 600 ℃ in airare investigated. The cross-sectional morphology and phases of the oxide layers are analyzed by scanning electron microscopy, energy spectroscopy and X-ray diffractometry. The oxidation kinetics of three barrrel materials were analyzed. The results show that the oxide film thicknesses of the three steels gradually thicken and the rate of increaseinthickness gradually decreaseswith the increase in oxidation time. The oxidation kinetics curves of the three barrel materials are consistent with the parabolic growth kinetics law of oxide film. At 600 ℃, the internal oxide layer of PCrNi3MoVA steel forms an adhesive layer of a network structure consisting mainlyof Ni and Cr-richspinel oxides but theadhesive layerdoes not act as a barrier against oxidation. The inner layer of oxide layer of 30SiMn2MoVA steel is a porous aggregation zone of Si element oxide with a loose structure and relatively serious oxide flaking. The internal oxide layer of MPS700 steel forms a protective Cr-rich oxide layer that effectively prevents further oxidation. At the same time, Mo element stabilises the passivation film and indirectly improves oxidation resistance. Compared with PCrNi3MoVA steel and 30SiMn2MoVA steel, MPS700 steel can better form a dense oxidized layer under high temperature condition, so as to reduce the high temperature oxidation and wear degree of the matrix under high temperature conditions. MPS700 steel is more suitable for the preparation of long life and high reliability barrel. © 20

Background Despite its prevalence, there is ongoing debate regarding the optimal management strategy for chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH), reflecting the variability in clinical presentation and treatment outcomes. This ambidirectional, nationwide, multicenter registry study aims to assess the efficacy and safety of multimodality treatment approaches for CSDH in the Chinese population.Methods/design A multicenter cohort of CSDH patients from 59 participating hospitals in mainland China was enrolled in this study. The treatment modalities encompassed a range of options and baseline demographics, clinical characteristics, radiographic findings, and surgical techniques were documented. Clinical outcomes, including hematoma resolution, recurrence rates, neurological status, and complications, were assessed at regular intervals during treatment, 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, and 2 years follow-up.Result Between March 2022 and August 2023, a comprehensive cohort comprising 2173 individuals who met the criterion was assembled across 59 participating clinical sites. Of those patients, 81.1% were male, exhibiting an average age of 70.12 ± 14.53 years. A historical record of trauma was documented in 48.0% of cases, while headache constituted the predominant clinical presentation in 58.1% of patients. The foremost surgical modality employed was the burr hole (61.3%), with conservative management accounting for 25.6% of cases. Notably, a favorable clinical prognosis was observed in 88.9% of CSDH patients at 3 months, and the recurrence rate was found to be 2.4%.Conclusion This registry study provides critical insights into the multimodality treatment of CSDH in China, offering a foundation for advancing clinical practices, optimizing patient management, and ultimately, improving the quality of life for individuals suffering from this challenging neurosurgical condition.Trial registration ChiCTR2200057179

High-quality rice flour is the foundation for the production of various rice-based products.Milling is an essential step in obtaining rice flour,during which significant changes occur in the physicochemical and quality characteristics of the flour.Although rice flour obtained through mainstream wet milling methods exhibits superior quality,low production efficiency and wastewater discharge limit the development of the industry.Dry milling,on the other hand,conserves water resources,but adversely affects flour performance due to excessive heat generation.As an emerging powder-making technique,semi-dry milling offers a promising solution by enhancing flour quality and reducing environmental impact.This is achieved by minimizing soaking time through hot air treatment while reducing mechanical energy consumption to reach saturated water absorption levels.However,continuous production remains a challenge.This comprehensive review summarizes the effects of various milling technologies on rice flour properties and product qualities.It also discusses key control indicators and technical considerations for rice flour processing equipment and processes.

Classifying Chinese Medicine Constitution Using Multimodal Deep-Learning Model

Objective:To develop a multimodal deep-learning model for classifying Chinese medicine constitution,i.e.,the balanced and unbalanced constitutions,based on inspection of tongue and face images,pulse waves from palpation,and health information from a total of 540 subjects.Methods:This study data consisted of tongue and face images,pulse waves obtained by palpation,and health information,including personal information,life habits,medical history,and current symptoms,from 540 subjects(202 males and 338 females).Convolutional neural networks,recurrent neural networks,and fully connected neural networks were used to extract deep features from the data.Feature fusion and decision fusion models were constructed for the multimodal data.Results:The optimal models for tongue and face images,pulse waves and health information were ResNet18,Gate Recurrent Unit,and entity embedding,respectively.Feature fusion was superior to decision fusion.The multimodal analysis revealed that multimodal data compensated for the loss of information from a single mode,resulting in improved classification performance.Conclusions:Multimodal data fusion can supplement single model information and improve classification performance.Our research underscores the effectiveness of multimodal deep learning technology to identify body constitution for modernizing and improving the intelligent application of Chinese medicine.

Fracture geometry and breakdown pressure of radial borehole fracturing in multiple layers

Radial borehole fracturing that combines radial boreholes with hydraulic fracturing is anticipated to improve the output of tight oil and gas reservoirs.This paper aims to investigate fracture propagation and pressure characteristics of radial borehole fracturing in multiple layers.A series of laboratory experiments with artificial rock samples(395 mm×395 mm×395 mm)was conducted using a true triaxial fracturing device.Three crucial factors corresponding to the vertical distance of adjacent radial borehole layers(vertical distance),the azimuth and diameter of the radial borehole are examined.Experimental results show that radial borehole fracturing in multiple layers generates diverse fracture geometries.Four types of fractures are identified based on the connectivity between hydraulic fractures and radial boreholes.The vertical distance significantly influences fracture propagation perpendicular to the radial borehole axis.An increase in the vertical distance impedes fracture connection across multiple radial borehole layers and reduces the fracture propagation distance along the radial borehole axis.The azimuth also influences fracture propagation along the radial borehole axis.Increasing the azimuth reduces the guiding ability of radial boreholes,which makes the fracture quickly curve to the maximum horizontal stress direction.The breakdown pressure correlates with diverse fracture geometries observed.When the fractures connect multi-layer radial boreholes,increasing the vertical distance decreases the breakdown pressure.Decreasing the azimuth and increasing the diameter also decrease the breakdown pressure.The extrusion force exists between the adjacent fractures generated in radial boreholes in multiple rows,which plays a crucial role in enhancing the guiding ability of radial boreholes and results in higher breakdown pressure.The research provides valuable theoretical insights for the field application of radial borehole fracturing technology in tight oil and gas reservoirs.

Prediction of ball-on-plate friction and wear by ANN with data-driven optimization

For training artificial neural network(ANN),big data either generated by machine or measured from experiments are used as input to"learn"the unspecified functions defining the ANN.The experimental data are fed directly into the optimizer allowing training to be performed according to a predefined loss function.To predict sliding friction and wear at mixed lubrication conditions,in this study a specific ANN structure was so designed that deep learning algorithms and data-driven optimization models can be used.Experimental ball-on-plate friction and wear data were analyzed using the specific training procedure to optimize the weights and biases incorporated into the neural layers of the ANN,and only two independent experimental data sets were used during the ANN optimization procedure.After the training procedure,the ANN is capable to predict the contact and hydrodynamic pressure by adapting the output data according to the tribological condition implemented in the optimization algorithm.

Photoinduced superlubricity on TiO_(2) surfaces

Superlubricity control is of great interest in both industry and scientific research,and several methods have been proposed to achieve this goal.In this work,ultraviolet(UV)light was introduced into titanium dioxide(TiO_(2))and silicon nitride(Si_(3)N_(4))tribosystems to accomplish photoinduced superlubricity.The friction coefficients(COFs)between Si_(3)N_(4) balls and TiO_(2) plates in the mixtures of sulfuric acid(H^(2)SO_(4))solution and glycerol solution were obviously reduced,and the system entered the superlubricity region(COF<0.01)after UV illumination at a speed of 56 mm/s.However,the COF was much larger without UV treatment than that with UV treatment.The formation of silica(SiO_(2))layers on the surfaces of Si_(3)N_(4) balls and the elastohydrodynamic effects were determined to be fundamental to the low friction in this experiment,and the enhancement of the combination between the TiO_(2) surface and the hydroxy group of glycerol by UV illumination was the key to the photoinduced superlubricity in this system.These findings showed one method for achieving superlubricity by introducing a light field that could be further applied to special working conditions.

Co-pyrolysis of Sewage Sludge with Paint Sludge: Kinetics and Thermodynamic Analysis via Iso-conversional Methods

This study explored the synergistic interaction of sewage sludge(SS)and automotive paint sludge(PS)during co-pyrolysis for the optimized treatment of sewage sludge in cement kiln systems,utilizing thermogravimetric analysis(TGA)and thermogravimetric-mass spectrometry(TGA-MS).The result reveals the coexisting synergistic and antagonistic effects in the co-pyrolysis of SS/PS.The synergistic effect arises from hydrogen free radicals in SS and catalytic components in PS,while the main source of the antagonistic effect is that,during the mechanical mixing process,the SS/PS is converted from the particulate form into a dough-like rubbery which contributes to the film-forming effect,hindering the volatilization of volatile components.SS/PS co-pyrolysis reduces the yielding of tar production while increasing coke and gas.This study will provide some in-depth insights into the co-pyrolysis of SS/PS,and offer theoretical support for the subsequent research on the collaborative disposal processes in cement kilns.

Pheromone receptors(PRs)are key proteins in the molecular mechanism of pheromone recognition,and exploring the functional differentiation of PRs between closely related species helps to understand the evolution of moth mating systems.Pheromone components of the agricultural pest Mythimna loreyi have turned into(Z)-9-tetradecen-1-yl acetate(Z9-14:OAc),(Z)-7-dodecen-1-yl acetate(Z7-12:OAc),and(Z)-11-hexadecen-1-yl acetate,while the composition differs from that of M.separata in the genus Mythimna.To understand the molecular mechanism of pheromone recognition,we sequenced and analyzed antennal transcriptomes to identify 62 odorant receptor(OR)genes.The expression levels of all putative ORs were analyzed using differentially expressed gene analysis.Six candidate PRs were quantified and functionally characterized in the Xenopus oocytes system.MlorPR6 and MlorPR3 were determined to be the receptors of major and minor components Z9-14:OAc and Z7-12:OAc.MlorPR1 and female antennae(FA)-biased MlorPR5 both possessed the ability to detect pheromones of sympatric species,including(Z,E)-9,12-tetradecadien-1-ol,(Z)-9-tetradecen-1-ol,and(Z)-9-tetradecenal.Based on the comparison of PR functions between M.loreyi and M.separata,we analyzed the differentiation of pheromone recognition mechanisms during the evolution of the mating systems of 2 Mythimna species.

Hydration lubrication modulated by water structure at TiO2–aqueous interfaces

The nature of solid-liquid interfaces is of great significance in lubrication.Remarkable advances have been made in lubrication based on hydration effects.However,a detailed molecular-level understanding is still lacking.Here,we investigated water molecule behaviors at the TiO2-aqueous interfaces by the sum-frequency generation vibrational spectroscopy(SFG-VS)and atomic force microscope(AFM)to elucidate the fundamental role of solid-liquid interfaces in lubrication.Combined contributions of water structures and hydration effects were revealed,where water structures played the dominant role in lubrication for TiO2 surfaces of varying hydrophilicity,while hydration effects dominated with the increasing of ion concentrations.Superior lubrication is observed on the initial TiO2 surfaces with strongly H-bonded water molecules compared to the hydrophilic TiO2 surfaces with more disordered water.The stable ordered water arrangement with strong hydrogen bonds and the shear plane occurring between the ordered water layer and subsequent water layer may play a significant role in achieving lower friction.More adsorbed hydrated molecules with the increasing ionic concentration perturb ordered water but lead to the enhancement of hydration effects,which is the main reason for the improved lubrication for both TiO2.This work provides more insights into the detailed molecular-level understanding of the mechanism of hydration lubrication.
