The applications of information technology (IT) tools and techniqueshave, over the years, simplified complex problem solving procedures. But thepower of automation is inhibited by the technicality in manning advanced equipment. To this end, tools deliberately combating this inhibition and advancing technological growth are the Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). UAVs are rapidlytaking over major industries such as logistics, security, and *** others, this is a very efficient way of carrying out missions unconventional to humans. An application area of this technology is the local film industrywhich is not producing quality movies primarily due to the lack of technicalknow-how in utilizing these systems. This study therefore aim to devise an autonomous object tracking UAV system that would eliminate the complex procedureinvolved in stabilizing an aerial camera (aerial bot) midair and promote the creation of quality aerial video shooting. The study adopted Unified Modeling Language (UML) tools in modeling the system’s functionality. The traditionalServer-Client model architecture was adopted. The OpenCV library employedproved highly efficient in aiding the tracking procedure. The system provided ausable web controller which provides easy interaction between the pilot and thedrone. Conclusively, investments in UAVs would enhance creation of quality graphic contents.

Genetic association and epistatic interaction of the interleukin-10 signaling pathway in pediatric inflammatory bowel disease

To study the genetic association and epistatic interaction of the interleukin (IL)-10 and IL-10/STAT3 pathways in pediatric inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). METHODSA total of 159 pediatric inflammatory IBD patients (Crohn’s disease, n = 136; ulcerative colitis, n = 23) and 129 matched controls were studied for genetic association of selected single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNps) of the IL-10 gene and the genes IL10RA, IL10RB, STAT3, and HO1, from the IL-10/STAT3 signaling pathway. As interactions between SNps from different loci may significantly affect the associated risk for disease, additive (a) and dominant (d) modeling of SNp interactions was also performed to examine high-order epistasis between combinations of the individual SNps. RESULTSThe results showed that IL-10 rs304496 was associated with pediatric IBD (p = 0.022), but no association was found for two other IL-10 SNps, rs1800872 and rs2034498, or for SNps in genes IL10RA, IL10RB, STAT3, and HO1. However, analysis of epistatic interaction among these genes showed significant interactions: (1) between two IL-10 SNps rs1800872 and rs3024496 (additive-additive p = 0.00015, Bonferroni p value (Bp) = 0.003); (2) between IL-10RB rs2834167 and HO1 rs2071746 (dominant-additive, p = 0.0018, Bp = 0.039); and (3) among IL-10 rs1800872, IL10RB rs2834167, and HO1 rs2071746 (additive-dominant-additive, p = 0.00015, Bp = 0.005), as well as weak interactions among IL-10 rs1800872, IL-10 rs3024496, and IL-10RA (additive-additive-additive, p = 0.003; Bp = 0.099), and among IL10RA, IL10RB, and HO1 genes (additive-dominant-additive, p = 0.008, Bp = 0.287). CONCLUSIONThese results indicate that both the IL-10 gene itself, and through epistatic interaction with genes within the IL-10/STAT3 signaling pathway, contribute to the risk of pediatric IBD.

Conceptus elongation in ruminants: roles of progesterone, prostaglandin, interferon tau and cortisol

The majority of pregnancy loss in ruminants occurs during the first three weeks after conception, particularly during the period of conceptus elongation that occurs prior to pregnancy recognition and implantation. This review integrates established and new information on the biological role of ovarian progesterone （p4）, prostaglandins （pGs）, interferon tau （IFNT） and cortisol in endometrial function and conceptus elongation. progesterone is secreted by the ovarian corpus luteum （CL） and is the unequivocal hormone of pregnancy. prostaglandins （pGs） and cortisol are produced by both the epithelial cells of the endometrium and the trophectoderm of the elongating conceptus. In contrast, IFNT is produced solely by the conceptus trophectoderm and is the maternal recognition of pregnancy signa that inhibits production of luteolytic pulses of pGF2α by the endometrium to maintain the CL and thus production of p4. Available results in sheep support the idea that the individual, interactive, and coordinated actions of p4, pGs, IFNT and cortisol regulate conceptus elongation and implantation by controlling expression of genes in the endometrium and/or trophectoderm. An increased knowledge of conceptus-endometrial interactions during early pregnancy in ruminants is necessary to understand and elucidate the causes of infertility and recurrent early pregnancy loss and provide new strategies to improve fertility and thus reproductive efficiency.

The ClasSi coefficient for the evaluation of ranking quality in the presence of class similarities

Evaluation measures play an important role in the design of new approaches, and often quality is measured by assessing the relevance of the obtained result set. While many evaluation measures based on precision/recall are based on a binary relevance model, ranking correlation coefficients are better suited for multi-class problems. State-of-the-art rank- ing correlation coefficients like Kendall＇s T and Spearman＇s p do not allow the user to specify similarities between differ- ing object classes and thus treat the transposition of objects from similar classes the same way as that of objects from dissimilar classes. We propose ClasSi, a new ranking corre- lation coefficient which deals with class label rankings and employs a class distance function to model the similarities between the classes. We also introduce a graphical representation of ClasSi which describes how the correlation evolves throughout the ranking.

Background:Vascular inflow occlusion(VIO)during liver resections(pringle manoeuvre)can be applied to reduce blood loss,however may at the same time,give rise to ischemia-reperfusion injury(IRI).The aim of this study was to assess the characteristics of hepatic microvascular perfusion during VIO in patients undergoing major liver ***:Assessment of hepatic microcirculation was performed using a handheld vital microscope(HVM)at the beginning of surgery,end of VIO(20 minutes)and during reperfusion after the termination of *** microcirculatory parameters assessed were:functional capillary density(FCD),microvascular flow index(MFI)and sinusoidal diameter(SinD).Results:A total of 15 patients underwent VIO;8 patients showed hepatic microvascular perfusion despite VIO(partial responders)and 7 patients showed complete cessation of hepatic microvascular perfusion(full responders).Functional microvascular parameters and blood flow levels were significantly higher in the partial responders when compared to the full responders during VIO(FCD:0.84±0.88 vs.0.00±0.00 mm/mm2,ppectively,and MFI:0.69–0.22 vs.0.00±0.00,ppectively).Conclusions:An interpatient heterogeneous response in hepatic microvascular blood flow was observed upon *** may explain why clinical strategies to protect the liver against IRI lacked consistency.

Comparison of Maxillary Implant-Supported prostpesis in Irradiated and Non-Irradiated patients

In order to investigate the influence of radiation therapy after the treatment of maxillary implant-supported prostheses, 27 patients received a total of 131 implants in maxilla after oral cancer treatment and/or reconstructive surgery. Among them, 25 received maxillary implant-supported prostheses. The cumulative survival rates of implants and prostheses were evaluated by the product-limit-estimates method according to Kaplan-Meier. The cumulative survival rate of implants and prostheses in irradiated patients was compared with that in non-irradiated patients by statistical Log-rank test. The results showed that 112 implants were observed after implant loading. The implants cumulative survival rate was approximately 65 % for overall patients. The cumulative prosthesis successful rate was approximately 88 % for all 25 patients. Log-rank test analysis revealed that there was a significant difference in cumulative implants survival rates between non-irradiated and irradiated maxillary bone (pplants and prostheses in irradiated patients have significantly lower survival rates than in non-irradiated patients.

Is the severity of gastroesophageal reflux dependent on hiatus hernia size?

AIM: To determine if the severity of gastroesophageal reflux disease is dependent on the size of a hiatus hernia. METHODS: Seventy-five patients with either a small(n = 25), medium(n = 25) or large(n = 25) hiatus hernia(assessed by high resolution esophageal manometry) were investigated using 24-h esophageal monitoring and a self-assessed symptom questionnaire. The questionnaire comprised the following items, each graded from 0 to 3 according to severity: heartburn; pharyngeal burning sensation; acid regurgitation; and chest pain. RESULTS: The percentage total reflux time was significantly longer in the group with hernia of 5 cm or more compared with the group with a hernia of p p with a hernia of 3 to p pharyngeal burning sensation, heartburn and acid regurgitation were more common with large hernias than small hernias, but the frequency of chest pain was similar in all three hernia groups. CONCLUSION: patients with a large hiatus hernia are more prone to have pathological gastroesophageal reflux and to have more acid symptoms than patients with a small hiatus hernia. However, it is unlikely that patients with an absence of acid symptoms will have pathological reflux regardless of hernia size.
