In the recent issue of Nature Immunology,Li et *** a mechanistic insight into neutrophilic cell death and its role in systemic lupus erythematosus(SLE).1 Several groups reported an altered neutrophil function and enhanced neutrophilic cell death in SLE patients that provoke a sustained interferon(IFN)production.2 In a recent issue of Nature they report that enhanced ferroptosis in neutrophils results in a breakdown of immune tolerance in SLE.1 Ferroptosis has recently been identified as a novel type of regulated cell death that is driven by lipid *** is implicated in a variety of pathological contexts such as cancer,(neuro-)degenerative diseases,but also in immune-mediated diseases such as non-alcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH),diabetes,multiple sclerosis(MS),and asthma.3 Nevertheless,cell-specific functions of ferroptosis remained less *** are known to spontaneously undergo cell death,which is partially related to their high ROS production.

Bottom-up synthesis of semiconductor nanowires(NWs)by the vapor-liquid-solid(VLS)mechanism has enabled diverse technological applications for these *** metallic NWs,however,it has been challenging to form large-area interconnected NW ***,we generate centimeter-scale meshes of mechanically and electrically interconnected Si NWs by sequentially growing,collapsing,and joining the NWs using a capillarity-driven welding *** fabricate meshes from VLS-grown NWs ranging in diameter from 20 to 100 nm and find that the meshes are three-dimensional with a thickness ranging from^1 to^10 microns depending on the NW *** extinction measurements reveal that the networks are semi-transparent with a color that depends on the absorption and scattering characteristics of individual ***,active voltage contrast imaging of both centimeter-and micron-scale meshes reveals widespread electrical *** a sacrificial layer,we demonstrate that the mesh can be liberated from the growth substrate,yielding a highly flexible and transparent *** transport measurements both on the growth substrate and on liberated,flexible films reveal electrical conduction across a centimeter scale with a sheet resistance of^160-180 kΩ/square that does not change significantly upon *** the ability to encode complex functionality in semiconductor NWs through the VLS process,we believe these meshes of networked NWs could find application as neuromorphic memory,electrode scaffolds,and bioelectronic interfaces.

Phytochromes mainly function in photoau- totrophic organisms to adjust growth in response to fluctuating light signals. The different isoforms of plant phytochromes often display both conserved and divergent roles, presumably to fine-tune plant responses to environmental signals and optimize fitness. Here we describe the distinct, yet partially redundant, roles of phytochromes NaPHYA, NaPHYB1 and NaPHYB2 in a wild tobacco species, Nicotiana attenuata using RNAi-silenced phytochrome lines. Consistent with results reported from other species, silencing the expression of NaPHYA or NaPHYB2 in N. attenuata had mild or no influence on plant develop- ment as long as NaPHYBI was functional; whereas silencing the expression of NaPHYB1 alone strongly altered flowering time and leaf morphology. Thecontribution of NaPHYB2 became significant only in the absence of NaPHYB1; plants silenced for both NaPHYB1 and NaPHYB2 largely skipped the rosette- stage of growth to rapidly produce long, slender stalks that bore flowers early： hallmarks of the shade- avoidance responses. The phenotyping of phyto- chrome-silenced lines, combined with sequence and transcript accumulation independent functional analysis, suggest the diversification of the phytochromes, and a dominant role of NaPHYB1 and NaPHYB2 in N. attenuata＇s vegetative and reproductive development.

Evaluation of Rice Seedling Tolerance to Constant and Intermittent Low Temperature Stress

M202, IR50 and advanced backcross （BC4F6） lines carrying the cold tolerance QTLs qCTS4 and qCTS12 were evaluated using three low temperature stress assays （constant, intermittent and constant with recovery period）. Under constant stress, two BC4F6 lines （MIb 4853-9 and MIb 6885-2） exhibited differences in seedling growth and accumulation of stress-related compounds although both carry the two QTLs in the IRS0 background. Differences between these lines were also observed in the constant with recovery period assay, although both of them performed comparably under intermittent stress, MIb 6885-2 performed more similarly to M202 in the constant and constant with recovery period assays, suggesting that this line contains an introgressed region（s） not present in MIb 4853-9. The three assays were also applied to assess variations in cold tolerance in a set of diverse germplasms. Performance metrics and visual ratings were comparable for evaluating tolerance to constant stress. However, differences in response to intermittent stress were more evident from growth and total chlorophyll measurements than from visual ratings. With regard to the constant with recovery period assay, about 15% of the germplasm accessions did not recover. However, some lines which exhibited chilling injuries of comparable severity were able to overcome them. This recovery phenotype may improve rice performance in the field and warrant further investigation.

This paper describes the development of a hyperspectral imaging approach for identifying fruits infected with citrus black spot(CBS).Hyperspectral images were taken of healthy fruit and those with CBS symptoms or other potentially confounding peel conditions such as greasy spot,wind scar,or *** angle mapper(SAM)and spectral information divergence(SID)hyperspectral analysis approaches were used to classify fruit samples into two classes:CBS or *** classification accuracy for CBS with SAM approach was 97.90%,and 97.14% with *** combination of hyperspectral images and two classification approaches(SID and SAM)have proven to be effective in recognizing CBS in the presence of other potentially confounding fruit peel *** study result can be a reference for the non-destructive detection of fruits infected with citrus black spot.

High-voltage nickel-rich layered cathodes possess the requisite,such as excellent discharge capacity and high energy density,to realize lithium batteries with higher energy ***,such materials suffer from structural and interfacial instability at high voltages(>4.3 V).To reinforce the stability of these cathode materials at elevated voltages,lithium borate salts are investigated as electrolyte additives to generate a superior cathode-electrolyte ***,the use of lithium bis(oxalato)borate(LiBOB)leads to an enhanced cycling stability with a capacity retention of 81.7%.Importantly,almost no voltage hysteresis is detected after 200 cycles at *** outstanding electrochemical performance is attributed to an enhanced structural and interfacial stability,which is attained by suppressing the generation of micro-cracks and the superficial structural degradation upon *** improved stability stems from the formation of a fortified borate-containing interphase which protects the highly reactive cathode from parasitic reactions with the ***,the decomposition process of LiBOB and the possible adsorption routes to the cathode surface are deduced and elucidated.

Marine controlled source electromagnetic(CSEM) data have been utilized in the past decade during petroleum exploration of the Barents Shelf, particularly for de-risking the highly porous sandstone reservoirs of the Upper Triassic to Middle Jurassic Realgrunnen Subgroup. In this contribution we compare the resistivity response from CSEM data to resistivity from wireline logs in both water-and hydrocarbon-bearing wells. We show that there is a very good match between these types of data, particularly when reservoirs are shallow. CSEM data, however, only provide information on the subsurface resistivity. Careful, geology-driven interpretation of CSEM data is required to maximize the impact on exploration success. This is particularly important when quantifying the relative resistivity contribution of high-saturation hydrocarbon-bearing sandstone and that of the overlying cap rock. In the presented case the cap rock comprises predominantly organic rich Upper Jurassic–Early Cretaceous shales of the Hekkingen Formation(i.e. a regional source rock). The resistivity response of the reservoir and its cap rock become merged in CSEM data due to the transverse resistance equivalence principle. As a result of this, it is imperative to understand both the relative contributions from reservoir and cap rock, and the geological significance of any lateral resistivity variation in each of the units. In this contribution, we quantify the resistivity of organic rich mudstone, i.e. source rock, and reservoir sandstones, using 131 exploration boreholes from the Barents Shelf. The highest resistivity(>10,000 Ωm) is evident in the hydrocarbon-bearing Realgrunnen Subgroup which is reported from 48 boreholes, 43 of which are used for this study. Emerging evidence has suggested that cytoreductive prostatectomy （CRP） allows superior oncologic control when compared to current standard of care androgen deprivation therapy alone. However, the safety and benefit of cytoreduction in metastatic prostate cancer （mPCa） has not been proven. Therefore, we evaluated the incidence of complications following CRP in men newly diagnosed with mPCa. A total of 68 patients who underwent CRP from 2006 to 2014 at four tertiary surgical centers were compared to 598 men who underwent radical prostatectomy for clinically localized prostate cancer （PCa）. Urinary incontinence was defined as the use of any pad. CRP had longer operative times （200 min vs 140 min, P 〈 0.0001） and higher estimated blood loss （250 ml vs 125 ml, P 〈 0.0001） compared to the control group. However, both overall （8.82% vs 5.85%） and major complication rates （4.41% vs 2.17%） were comparable between the two groups. Importantly, urinary incontinence rate at 1-year after surgery was significantly higher in the CRP group （57.4% vs 90.8%, P 〈 0.0001）. Univariate logistic analysis showed that the estimated blood loss was the only independent predictor of perioperative complications both in the unadjusted model （OR： 1.18; 95% Ch 1.02-1.37; P= 0.025） and surgery type-adjusted model （OR： 1.17; 95% Ch 1.01-1.36; P= 0.034）. In conclusion, CRP is more challenging than radical prostatectomy and associated with a notably higher incidence of urinary incontinence. Nevertheless, CRP is a technically feasible and safe surgery for selecting PCa patients who present with node-positive or bony metastasis when performed by experienced surgeons. A prospective, multi-institutional clinical trial is currently underway to verify this concept.
