Objective:To investigate the studies on effects of Andrographis paniculata(***) (Burm.f.) and Andrographis lineata(***) nees(Family:Acanthaeeae)extracts against two mosquitoes Culex quinquefasciatus(***)(Say.) and Aedes aegypti(***) (Linn.).Methods:The aqueous and petroleum ether extracts of two plant *** and *** were examined against the larvae of,***(L.) and *** with gradually increasing concenlration *** 50 to 200 ppm of solvent extracts and to test their activity in combination with each ***:In a 24 h bioassay experiment with plant extracts,highest mortalities were recorded at 200 ppm of concentrations for leaves of *** and *** *** combination effect,only 150 ppm of the mixture of solvent extracts of petroleum ether:aqueous(1:1) extracts showed 100%mortality after 24 h of exposure. Conclusions:The results show that,insecticides of plant combination is ecofriend and has better larvicidal activity compared to individual extracts.

Clay mineralogy,texture size and statistical analyses were carried out on surface sediments from the continental shelf of Chennai,Bay of Bengal,*** purpose of this study is to characterize the clay mineral distribution and its relation to the hydrodynamics off Chennai to identify the sources and transport pathways of the marine *** of clay minerals in coastal sediments by Fourier Transform Infrared(FTIR)spectroscopy has provided the association of quartz,feldspar,kaolinite,chlorite,illite and iron oxides(magnetite and hematite) derived from river catchments and coastal ***,chlorite,illite,iron oxides,and organic matter are the dominant minerals in Cooum,and Adayar *** quartz and feldspar zones were identified in Marina,which are being confined the sand zone and paralleling the *** strong relationships among the wave energy density,sand,quartz and carbonate revealed that wave induced littoral drift system play a dominant role in transportation and deposition of sediments in the Chennai *** sediment texture and minerals data are in agreement well with the previous results of hydrodynamics and littoral drift models in this *** statistical analyses(correlation,cluster and factor analyses) were carried out and obtained results suggested that clay minerals and organic matter are trapped in silt and clay particles,whereas quartz,feldspar and carbonate are associated with sand *** of sediment sources and transport processes from this study will be useful to predict the fate of the pollutants released from land or the potential change in sediment delivery to coastal areas.

Influence of two different dietary zinc sources in freshwater prawn Macrobrachium rosenbergii post larvae

A feeding experiment was conducted to evaluate the ef fects of bulk zinc(B-Zn) and zinc nanoparticles(Zn-Nps) on survival, growth, compositions of amino acid and fatty acid, and nonspeci?c immune responses of the freshwater prawn, Macrobrachium rosenbergii post larvae. The B-Zn(size 10 μm)and Zn-Nps(size 50 nm) were supplemented separately with the basal feeds of M. rosenbergii at 60 mg/kg and feed without supplementation of any Zn source was served as a control. M. rosenbergii were fed these feeds for 90 days and the results showed that signi?cant( p provements in survival, growth, feed intake,speci?c growth rate, essential amino acids, unsaturated fatty acids, nonspeci?c immune responses(total haemocytes and dif ferential haemocytes count) of M. rosenbergii fed with B-Zn and Zn-Nps supplemented feeds when compared to control. Among these Zn sources, Zn-Nps supplemented feeds fed prawns showed signi?cantly( p performance than that of B-Zn and control. Hence, present study suggests that the 60 mg/kg Zn-Nps can be supplemented with basal feeds of M. rosenbergii for regulating better survival and growth.

Groundwater potential zones were demarcated with the help of remote sensing and Geographic Informa- tion System （GIS） techniques. The study area is composed rocks of Archaean age and chamockite dominated over others. The parameters considered for identifying the groundwater potential zone of geology slope, drainage density, geomorphic units and lineament density were generated using the resource sat （IRS p6 LISS IV MX） data and survey of India （SO1） toposheets of scale 1：50000 and integrated them with an inverse distance weighted （IDW） model based on GIS data to identify the ground- water potential of the study area. Suitable weightage factors were assigned for each category of these para- meters. For the various geomorphic units, weightage factors were assigned based on their capability to store ground-water. This procedure was repeated for all the other layers and resultant layers were reclassified. The reclassi- fied layers were then combined to demarcate zones as very good, good, moderate, low, and poor. This groundwater potentiality information could be used for effective identification of suitable locations for extraction of potable water for rural populations.

Ten marine sponge species from Rameswaram,southern India were studied for their filamentous fungal *** results suggest that fungal symbionts of marine sponges are *** such as Acremonium,Alternaria,Aspergillus,Cladosporium,Fusarium and penicillium were frequently isolated;no true marine fungal species were *** of Aspergillus were dominant and co-dominant in all the sponges *** fungal isolates produced antialgal,antifungal,antioxidant,antibiotic,antiinsect metabolites.A few fungi produced acetylcholinesterase inhibitors.

Genetic distances between hybrid parents based on phenotypic traits and molecular markers were investigated to assess their relationship with heterosis for grain and stover yield and other traits in pearl millet(pennisetum glaucum [L.] R. Br.). Fifty-one hybrids developed using 101 hybrid parents(B and R lines) and showing a wide range of genetic distance between their parents based on eight phenotypic traits and 28–38 SSRs were evaluated in two sets for two seasons. The correlation between Euclidean distance(phenotypic distance, ED) and simple matching distance(molecular distance, SM) for parents of both sets was low but positive and significant(r = 0.2, p parents with better-parent heterosis for grain yield was similar in both sets(r =0.38, p phenotypic distance could be a better predictor of heterosis than molecular distance. The correlation between phenotypic distance and heterosis was not strong enough to permit the use of phenotypic diversity among parents as a major selection criterion for selection of parental lines displaying high levels of heterosis for grain and stover yield in pearl millet.

Objective:To study the anti-diabetic effect of methanolic leaf extract of pongamia pinnata(***)on streptozotocin induced diabetic ***:Anti-diabetic activity of *** leaf extract at dosage of 500 mg/kg and 1 g/kg body weight was ***:The levels of glucose,triglycerides,total cholesterol and serum glutamic pyruvic transaminase were significantly increased in streptozotocin induced diabetic rats when compared to that of the normal *** supplemented with plant extract,significant lower blood glucose level was ***:The methanolic leaf extract of *** has been potent anti-diabetic effect in male albino rats.
