Effect of Iron Nanoparticles Synthesized by a Sol-Gel Process on Rhodococcus erythropolis T902.1 for Biphenyl Degradation

Nanoparticles (NPS) are considered as a new generation of compounds to improve environmental remediation and biological processes. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of iron NPS encapsulated in porous silica (SiO2) on the biphenyl biodegradation by Rhodococcus erythropolis T902.1 (RT902.1). The iron NPS (major iron oxide FexOy form) were dispersed in the porosity of a SiO2 support synthesized by sol-gel process. These Fe/SiO2 NPS offer a stimulating effect on the biodegradation rate of biphenyl, an organic pollutant that is very stable and water-insoluble. This positive impact of NPS on the microbial biodegradation was found to be dependent on the NPS concentration ranging from 10-6 M to 10-4 M. After 18 days of incubation the cultures containing NPS at a concentration of 10-4 M of iron improved RT902.1 growth and degraded 35% more biphenyl than those without NPS (positive control) or with the sole SiO2 particles. Though the microorganism could not interact directly with the insoluble iron NPS, the results show that about 10% and 35% of the initial 10-4 M iron NPS encapsulated in the SiO2 matrix would be incorporated inside or adsorbed on the cell surface respectively and 35% would be released in the supernatant. These results suggest that RT902.1 would produce siderophore-like molecules to attract iron from the porous silica matrix.

BACKGROUND Pneumatosis cystoides intestinalis(PCI),characterized by a collection of gas-filled cysts in the intestinal wall,is an uncommon but well-known condition in *** pain is the most frequent symptom associated with *** represents a potential cause of recurrent abdominal pain or emergency ***,the occurrence of colonic intussusception secondary to PCI is very unusual in *** SUMMARY A 52-year-old male,known with idiopathic PCI,presented seventeen months after initial diagnosis with a new right upper quadrant pain.A computed tomographyscan demonstrated a colonic intussusception at the hepatic *** did not progress compared with initial *** patient underwent an emergency right *** Resection was recommended in this case because PCI proved to be persisting with no identified curable *** allowed to address the underlying pathology,the potential relapse of intussusception,and the likely cause of recurrent abdominal pain,either invagination or PCI itself.

Contribution to the Study of Fungal Strains Contaminating Peanut Pastes in Bangui (Central African Republic)

Introduction: Peanut pastes are food products resulting from artisanal or industrial processing, used in cooking in Africa in general and in Central African Republic in particular. These peanut pastes are often contaminated by molds and filamentous fungi involved in the degradation of hygienic and organoleptic or even toxicological quality. This study aims to determine the epidemiological profile of molds contaminating peanut pastes sold on the Central African market. Methodology: This was a cross-sectional study carried out from June to September 2023. Samples of peanut pastes sold on Central African market were taken and analyzed at the National Laboratory of Clinical Biology and Public Health using the conventional microbiology method according to ISO 7954 standards. The data obtained were collected in the ODK 2023.3.1 application and analyzed with the Epi Info 7 software. A multivariate analysis by logistic regression, Ficher’s exact test, and chi2 at the 5% threshold (p Penicillium sp.;11.25% of Mucor sp.;10.63% of Aspergillus terrei;3.13% of Aspergillus niger;1.25% of Aspergillus medullans;28.13% of Aspergillus flavus;2.50% of Aspergillus fumigatus. Peanut pastes stored beyond three days were more contaminated (94.19%). Conclusion: The results of this study made it possible to highlight strains of mold that impact the hygienic and organoleptic quality of peanut pastes sold at the Central African market. Most of the isolated strains were the Aspergillus flavus species which is recognized by its toxigenic effects. This species is much more incriminated in the contamination of foodstuffs with the production of the toxin which causes underlying pulmonary pathologies in humans.

The impact-sliding wear behavior of steam generator tubes in nuclear power plants is complex owing to the dynamic nature of the mechanical response and self-induced tribological *** this study,the effects of impact and sliding velocity on the impact-sliding wear behavior of a 2.25Cr1Mo steel tube are investigated experimentally and *** the experimental study,a wear test rig that can measure changes in the impact and friction forces as well as the compressive displacement over different wear cycles,both in real time,is designed.A semi-analytical model based on the Archard wear law and Hertz contact theory is used to predict *** results indicate that the impact dynamic effect by the impact velocity is more significant than that of the sliding velocity,and that both velocities affect the friction force and wear *** experimental results for the wear depth evolution agree well with the corresponding simulation predictions.

Background:The broodstock diet,and in particular the lipid and fatty acid composition of the diet,is known to play a key role in reproductive efficiency and survival of the progeny in fish.A major problem when replacing both fish meal and fish oil by plant sources is the lack of n-3 long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids,such as eicosapentaenoic acid(EPA)and docosahexaenoic acid(DHA).To address this problem,we studied the effect of the plant-based diet supplemented with Schizochytrium ***,source of DHA,compared to a conventional commercial diet rich in fish meal and fish oil on reproductive performance and egg quality and the consequences on progeny,in female rainbow trout ***:The results demonstrated that DHA-rich microalgae supplementation in a plant-based diet allowed for the maintenance of reproductive performance and egg quality comparable to a conventional commercial feed rich in fish meal and fish oil and led to an increased significant fry survival after ***,when females were fed a plant-based diet supplemented with micro-algae,the 4-month-old progenies showed a significant higher growth when they were challenged with a similar diet as broodstock during 1 *** provide evidence for metabolic programming in which the maternal dietary induced significant protracted effects on lipid metabolism of ***:The present study demonstrates that supplementation of a plant-based diet with DHA-rich microalgae can be an effective alternative to fish meal and fish oil in rainbow trout broodstock aquafeed.

The TP53 gene is well known to be the most frequently mutated gene in human *** addition to mutations,there are > 20 different coding region single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the TP53 gene,as well as SNPs in MDM2,the negative regulator of *** of these SNPs are known to alter p53 pathway *** makes p53 rather unique among cancer-critical genes,*** coding regions of other cancer-critical genes like Ha-Ras,RB,and PI3KCA do not have non-synonymous coding region SNPs that alter their function in *** next frontier in p53 biology will consist of probing which of these coding region SNPs are moderately or strongly pathogenic and whether they influence cancer risk and the efficacy of cancer *** challenge after that will consist of determining whether we can tailor chemotherapy to correct the defects for each ofthese *** we review the SNPs in TP53 and MDM2 that show the most significant impact on cancer and other *** also propose avenues for how this information can be used to better inform personalized medicine approaches to cancer and other diseases.

An Investigation of Freezing of Supercooled Water on Anti-Freeze Protein Modified Surfaces

This work investigates how functionalization of aluminium surfaces with natural type III Anti-Freeze Protein （AFP） affects the mechanism of heterogeneous ice nucleation. First the bulk ice nucleation properties of distilled water and aqueous solution of AFP were evaluated by differential scanning calorimetry. Then the modified surface was characterized by Secondary Ions Mass Spectroscopy （SIMS）, Fourier Transform InfraRed （FTIR） spectroscopy and contact angle measurement. Freezing experiments were then conducted in which water droplets underwent a slow controlled cooling. This study shows that compared to uncoated aluminium, the anti-freeze proteins functionalized surfaces exhibit a higher and narrower range of freezing temperature. It was found that these proteins that keep living organisms from freezing in cold environment act in the opposite way once immobilized on surfaces by promoting ice nucleation. Some suggestions regarding the mechanism of action of the observed phenomena were proposed based on the Classical Nucleation Theory （CNT）.

A comparative analysis of alternative approaches to fitting species-abundance models

Characterization of meso-scale mechanical properties of Longmaxi shale using grid microindentation experiments

Mechanical properties,such as the hardness H,Young’s modulus E,creep modulus C,and fracture toughness Kc,are essential parameters in the design of hydraulic fracturing systems for prospective shale gas *** this study,a practical methodology is presented for obtaining these properties through microindentation experiments combined with quantitative observations of the mineralogical phases using X-ray diffraction(XRD),scanning electron microscopy(SEM)with backscattered electron(BSE)imaging,and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDS)*** apply this method in the case of three types of Longmaxi shales with different mineralogies(***-,clay-,and quartz-rich,respectively),which allows us to determine the characteristic indentation depth,hc?8e10 mm,beyond which the mechanical response of the carbonate-rich shale is homogeneous and independent of its complex heterogeneous ***,exploiting the results of a large number of indentation tests,we demonstrate that the indentation modulus M of the shale increases as a power-law of hardness H,and its creep modulus C increases linearly with *** also compute the fracture toughness Kc from the indentation data by assuming a perfectly plastic behavior of the *** results are in good agreement with independent measurements of Kc determined by microscratch ***,further tests on quartz-and clay-rich samples of the Longmaxi shale suggest further variations in the samples’mechanical properties depending on their burial conditions and the mechanical properties of their dominant mineral phases.
