The control of soil polarization in Populus simonii and Quercus liaotungensis forests by forage litter on the Loess Plateau,P. R. China

Soil polarization in pure forest stands affects the stability and sustainable development of the ecosystem. The most effective approaches to the prevention of soil polarization may be the use of forage litter as fertilizer or the direct establishment of tree-grass communities. We investigated monospecific plantations of Populus simonii and Quercus liaotungensis. Such plantations have been established throughout the Loess Plateau of China. A 120-day decomposition incubation experiment with forest humus soil mixed with 7 common leguminous forage litterspecies was performed to study the uses of forage litter in controlling soil polarization in pure forests. The addition of forage litter of Astragalus adsurgens, Lespedeza bicolor, and Vicia viUosa to the soil of pure P. simonii forest clearly improved the soil quality, these forage species are suitable for planting with P. simonii, whereas Melilotus officinalis, Medicago sativa, and Onobrychis viciifolia litter produced obvious deterioration, thus these forages should not be planted with P. simonii. Coronilla varia litter showed no significant influence. The addition of forage litter of M. sativa to the soil of pure Q. liaotungensis forest clearly improved the soil quality, and C. varia and V. villosa also yielded improvements but were slightly less effective than M. sativa litter, these forages are suitable to be planted with Q. liaotungensis. However, L. bicolor showed obvious deterioration, followed by O. viciifolia and A. adsurgens, and M. officinalis had no significant influence. These spe- cies should not be planted with Q. liaotungensis.

Assessment of Post-Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy Pain at Viet Duc Hospital, Vietnam

Gallstones are common and costly in the world. this disease also have high health burden with high mortality. Currently, Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy has become a gold standard for surgical treatment of symptomatic gallstones. Pain is usually the first concern after surgery. Postoperative pain decreases with time but it is severe enough to interfere with daily activities of patients. Pain after the surgery is also affected by many factors. this cross-sectional study aimed to 1) assess pain intensity and interference pain with daily activities;2) describe the association between pain intensity and interference with daily activities of patients;3) explore factors that influence post-operative pain after Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy. Data were collected by 50 patients who were undergoing Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy completed questionnaire including the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) and the Brief Pain Inventory (BPI). Data were analyzed based on three aims. As this is the first time that this type of study is conducted in Vietnam, it is expected that the results will contribute significantly to local knowledge and should add to global perspectives. From understanding the factors that affect severity of pain, this study is expected to design nursing intervention strategies to improve daily activities among patients undergoing LC.

Knowledge of child nutrition when breastfeeding—A study of mothers living outside Hanoi

Objective: To evaluate the knowledge of?nutrition?among mothers of children less than two years of age and changes in theoretical knowledge after a nutrition course. Method: A pilot study with a pre-post-test design. thirty mothers of children who were less than two years of age from outside Hanoi participated in the study. The mothers’ knowledge of breastfeeding, supplementary food and diet when the child was suffering from diarrhea was collected using 19 self-reported questions. A one-day nutrition course at which the mothers answered the same questions before and after the course was run. Results: All the invited mothers were included in the study. There was a lack of knowledge about breastfeeding and nutrition at baseline, but it improved after the nutrition course. The greatest improvement in knowledge related to breastfeeding less than 30 minutes after delivery, not giving milk or fruit juice instead of breast milk, increasing the frequency of breastfeeding in the event of a smaller amount of milk and knowledge about giving supplementary food after six months. Moreover, the results revealed that the mothers reported better knowledge of the consumption and frequency of more healthy food supplements. Conclusion: There was a lack of knowledge about nutrition among the mothers with children less than two years of age. The course demonstrated effectiveness in every aspect of nutritional knowledge, tested in the posttest. The findings in this study could provide important information for authorities in the health sector to improve the nutritional state of children in the community.

Many health professionals in Vietnam have limited knowledge and experience in coordinating care for victims of Domestic Violence (DV). this qualitative study aimed to elicit the beliefs of nurses and doctors that are influencing the care of victims of DV. Data were collected by semi-structured interviews with nineteen nurses and doctors. Data were analyzed by content analysis and organized by three main themes;behavioral beliefs, normative beliefs and control beliefs. The outcomes of this study will inform the development of intervention strategies that will enable health professionals to better respond to and manage care for women who experience domestic violence in Vietnam.

Assessment of the Quality of Frozen-Thawed Semen or Epididymal Sperm in Three Native Vietnamese Pig Breeds

Our aim was to evaluate the quality of ejaculated and epididymal frozen-thawed pig sperm of endangered Vietnam native pig breeds. Ejaculated sperm was collected from live boars and epididymal sperm was collected from slaughtered boars of the MuongTe, Kieng Sat and Co BinhThuan breeds and frozen in 0.25 ml straws using a protocol established earlier for modern pig breeds. We evaluated the sperm quality after thawing in terms of motility and rates of viable and abnormal spermatozoa. Our results revealed that the sperm motility and rates of viable and abnormal frozen-thawed sperm were >30%, >44%, and 0.05). In the Co BinhThuan breed, the rate of pregnancy of ejaculated groups was similar to that of the epididymal group. In conclusion, the ejaculated and epididymal sperm of native Vietnamese pigs were successfully frozen. We succeeded in creating embryos in vitro and pregnant pigs after artificial insemination from frozen-thawed semen in three native Vietnamese pig breeds for the first time. The use of the ejaculated sperm improved the production of native pig embryos in vitro efficiency.

Development and Validation of a Questionnaire to Measure Health Professionals’ Attitudes toward Identification of Female Victims of Domestic Violence

Back ground: Domestic violence against women is a major public health problem and violations of women’s human rights. Health professionals could play an important role in screening for the victims. From the evidence to date, it is unclear whether health professionals do play an active role in identification of the victims. Objectives: To develop a reliable and valid instrument to measure health professionals’ attitude to identifying female victims of domestic violence. Methods: A primary questionnaire was constructed in accordance with established guidelines using the Theory of Planned Behaviour Ajzen (1975) to develop an instrument to measure health professionals’ attitudes in identifying female victim of DV. An expert panel was used to establish content validity. Focus groups amongst a group of health professionals (N = 5) of the target population were performed to confirm face validity. A pilot study (N = 30 nurses and doctors) was undertaken to elicit the feasibility and reliability of the questionnaire. The questionnaire was also administered a second time after one week to check the stability of the tests. Results: Feedbacks of the expert panel’s and group discussion confirmed that the questionnaire had the content and face validity. Cronbach’s alpha values for all the items were greater than 0.7. Strong correlations between the direct and indirect measures confirmed that the indirect measures were well constructed. High test-retest correlations confirmed that the measures were reliable in the sense of temporal stability. Significance: this tool has the potential to be used by researchers in expanding the knowledge base in this important area.

Elevating the charge cut-off voltage beyond traditional 4.2 V is a commonly accepted technology to increase the energy density of Li-ion batteries(LIBs) but the risk of Li-dendrites and fire hazard increases as well. The use of ambi-functional additive, which forms stable solid electrolyte interphase(SEI) simultaneously at both cathode and anode, is a key to enabling a dendrites-free and well-working high-voltage LIB. Herein, a novel ambi-functional additive, pentaerythritol disulfate(PEDS), at 1 wt% without any other additive is demonstrated. We show the feasibility and high impacts of PEDS in forming lithium sulfateincorporated robust SEI layers at NCM523 cathode and graphite anode in 1 Ah-level pouch cell under4.4 V, 25 °C and 0.1 C rate, which mitigates the high-voltage instability, metal-dissolution and cracks on NCM523 particles, and prevents Li-dendrites at graphite anode. Improved capacity retention of 83%after 300 cycles is thereby achieved, with respect to 69% with base electrolyte, offering a promising path toward the design of practical high-energy LIBs.

Two-dimensional(2D) indium selenide(InSe) has been widely studied for application in transistors and photodetectors,which benefit from its excellent optoelectronic *** the three specific polytypes(γ-,ε-and β-phase) of InSe,only the crystal lattice of InSe in β-phase(β-InSe) belongs to a non-symmetry point group of D6 h~4,which indicates stronger anisotropic transport behavior and potential in the polarized photodetection of β-InSe-based optoelectronic ***,we prepare the stable p-type 2D-layered β-InSe via temperature gradient *** anisotropic Raman,transport and photoresponse properties of β-InSe have been experimentally and theoretically proven,showing that theβ-InSe-based device has a ratio of 3.76 for the maximum to minimum dark current at two orthogonal orientations and a high photocurrent anisotropic ratio of 0.70 at 1 V bias voltage,*** appealing anisotropic properties demonstrated in this work clearly identify β-InSe as a competitive candidate for filter-free polarization-sensitive photodetectors.
