Permitted Visits to the ICU or Not—Children and Parents’ Experiences

Introduction: Children need intensive care in the first days after open-heart surgery. In some hospitals visits to Intensive Care Units (ICU), are not allowed, even by parents. Aim: The study aimed to illuminate the experiences of children and parents regarding permission or not to visit the ICU. Subjects and Methods: Twenty children aged between 8 and 15 years with planned open-heart surgery, together with their parents, were chosen consecutively to participate in the study. They were divided into two groups. Group 1, followed the routine with no visits by parents allowed to the ICU. Group 2 were allowed such visits. Data were collected through open interviews with parents and children, following an interview guide. Results “Missing” was the overall theme illustrated in the findings, with two major categories;“being seen” and “taking care” being developed. The parents trusted the expert knowledge of the medical staff but Missing was strongly expressed and influenced the feelings within the categories in Group 1. Parents felt they were not seen and the lack of information made them anxious, frightened and feel they were losing control over their parenthood. They asked to see their children only briefly to allay their fears. They knew their children’s needs and thought they could help by taking care of practical issues to improve their well-being. All children in this group felt sad and abandoned. The families in Group 2 felt happy and confident despite not being allowed to stay with children all the time. The parents felt included in their care, which had a positive effect on the children.

In this work, the vibration characteristics of a piezoelectric ceramic disk with different dimensional ratio are studied by simulation method. Computational finite element modeling combined with the computational programs has allowed for the prediction of the effect, the change of diameter-to-thickness ratio on the resonant characteristics, the vibration modes as well as comparing the physic properties of piezoceramics. Three types of piezoelectric materials were chosen, piezoelectric materials (PZT) and Pb-free piezoelectric materials Ba(Zr0.2Ti0.8)O3-50(Ba0.7Ca0.3)TiO3(BZT-50BCT), BaTiO3 for research.

Complex modulus(G^(*))is one of the important criteria for asphalt classification according to AASHTO M320-10,and is often used to predict the linear viscoelastic behavior of asphalt *** addition,phase angle(φ)characterizes the deformation resilience of asphalt and is used to assess the ratio between the viscous and elastic *** is thus important to quickly and accurately estimate these two *** purpose of this investigation is to construct an extreme gradient boosting(XGB)model to predict G^(*)andφof graphene oxide(GO)modified asphaltat medium and high *** data sets are gathered from previously published experiments,consisting of 357 samples for G^(*)and 339 samples forφ,and the se are used to develop the XGB model using nine inputs representing theasphalt binder *** findings show that XGB is an excellent predictor of G^(*)andφof GO-modified asphalt,evaluated by the coefficient of determination R^(2)(R^(2)=0.990 and 0.9903 for G^(*)andφ,respectively)and root mean square error(RMSE=31.499 and 1.08 for G^(*)andφ,respectively).In addition,the model’s performance is compared with experimental results and five other machine learning(ML)models to highlight its *** the final step,the Shapley additive explanations(SHAP)value analysis is conducted to assess the impact of each input and the correlation between pairs of important features on asphalt’s two physical properties.

this paper deals with the problem of finite-time boundedness and fin计e-time stabilization boundedness of frax?tional-order switched nonlinear systems with exogenous *** constructing a simple Lyapunov-like function and using some properties of Caputo derivative,the authors obtain some new sufficient conditions for the problem via linear matrix inequalities,which can be efficiently solved by using existing convex algorithms.A constructive geometric is used to design switching laws amongst the *** obtained results are more general and useful than some existing works,and cover them as special cases,in which only linear fractional-order systems were *** examples are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed results.

In this work we investigate the pricing of swing options in a model where the underlying asset follows a jump diffusion *** focus on the derivation of the partial integro-differential equation(PIDE)which will be applied to swing contracts and construct a novel pay-off function from a tree-based pay-off matrix that can be used as initial condition in the PIDE *** valuing swing type derivatives we develop a theta implicit-explicit finite difference scheme to discretize the PIDE using a Gaussian quadrature method for the integral *** on known results for the classical theta-method the existence and uniqueness of solution to the new implicit-explicit finite difference method is *** numerical examples illustrate the usability of the proposed method and allow us to analyse the sensitivity of swing options with respect to model *** particular the effects of number of exercise rights,jump intensities and dividend yields will be investigated in depth.

Viral co-infections among children with confirmed measles at hospitals in Hanoi,Vietnam,2014

Objective:To characterize viral co-infections among representative hospitalized measles cases during the 2014 Hanoi ***:Throat swabs were collected from 54 pediatric patients with confirmed measles,and molecular diagnostics performed for 10 additional viral respiratory pathogens(Influenza A/H1N1pdm09;A/H3N2 and influenza B;Parainfluenza 1,2,3;Respiratory Synctial Virus,RSV;human Metapneumovirus,hM PV;Adenovirus and Picornavirus).Results:Twenty-one cases(38.9%) showed evidence of infection with other respiratory viruses:15 samples contained measles plus one additional virus,and 6 samples contained measles plus 2 additional *** was detected as a predominant cause of co-infections(13 cases;24.1%),followed by RSV(6 cases;11.1%),A/H1N1pdm09(3 cases;5.6%),PIV3(3 cases;3.7%),Rhinovirus(3 cases;3.7%) and hM PV(1 case;1.96%).Conclusions:Viral co-infections identified from pediatric measles cases may have contributed to increased disease severity and high rate of fatal *** treatment of measles cases may require control of multiple viral respiratory pathogens.
