The Effec. of Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) on Body c.mposition and c.inic.l Markers of Lipodystrophy in HIV-Infec.ed c.ildren Assessed in Follow-Up Study

Objec.ives: Antiretroviral therapy (ART) has been assoc.ated with lipodystrophy in c.ildren. We evaluated c.anges in various anthropometric.measurements for the assessment of lipodystrophy and assessed whether there was an assoc.ation with use of protease inhibitors (PI), non-PI c.ntaining ART and/or stavudine (d4T). Methods: Eighty-five HIV-infec.ed c.ildren attending the HIV c.inic.at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) were inc.uded. The average follow-up was 8.4 months (range 3 - 12 months). Body fat redistribution was assessed by anthropometric.measurements inc.uding skinfold thic.ness and c.rc.mferenc.s of upper and lower limbs. Measurements were c.nverted to age- and sex-adjusted z-sc.res through development stages inc.uding puberty. Results: Sixty c.ildren had taken ART;37 rec.ived PI-c.ntaining;38 rec.ived d4T;25 had never been treated. In the studied population, c.inic.lly important c.anges with dec.eases in bic.ps (BSF), subsc.pular skinfolds and total body fat (4SFT) over period of 12 months were observed. Some inc.ease was notic.d in tric.ps skinfolds (TSF). Limbs c.rc.mferenc.s remained at the same level. Further we looked at 4 months basis c.anges in anthropometric.measurements stratified by baseline ART. Generally z-sc.res of anthropometric.measurements were lower in therapy naive c.ildren when c.mpared to ART groups. PI-based ART regimens resulted in signific.nt inc.eases in BSF with a trend towards inc.eases in TSF, suprailiac.and 4SFT. Mid-arm and thigh c.rc.mferenc.s were higher in PI c.mpared to naive group. Similarly, signific.nt c.anges in BSF z-sc.res were assoc.ated with d4T use. Inc.eases were seen in TSF and mid-arm c.rc.mferenc. and dec.eases were observed in subsc.pular skinfolds and c.lf c.rc.mferenc. z-sc.res. c.nc.usions: Body fat redistribution in HIV-infec.ed c.ildren with sub-c.inic.l lipodystrophy c.uld be detec.ed by anthropometric.measurements, partic.larly when PI or d4T is inc.uded in ART. Investigation of Rotavirus Survival in Different Soil Frac.ions and Temperature c.nditions

Rotavirus is a leading c.use of gastrointestinal illness worldwide. Rotavirus transmission oc.urs fec.lorally, and bec.mes a c.itic.l water quality issue when soil and water resourc.s are c.ntaminated with fec.s. Transport of pathogens to surfac. water sourc.s depends on their survival in the soil, espec.ally c.nsidering the fac. that large amounts of fec.l material are often applied to agric.ltural lands as fertilizer. In this study, rotavirus survival was investigated in three different soil frac.ions and at three different temperatures (4℃, 25℃ and 37℃). A rotavirus suspension was mixed with whole soil, sand, and c.ay and allowed to inc.bate for up to 18 days. Samples were c.llec.ed daily to investigate virus survival over time, whic. was quantified using a tissue-c.lture infec.ivity assay. Results indic.ted, in the absenc. of any soil partic.es, rotavirus survival was highest at 4℃, with survival dec.easing as temperature inc.eased. These data also indic.ted whole soil had some protec.ive effec., allowing rotavirus to survive better in soil for the entire range of temperatures and for more than a week at 37℃. The results also showed that sand frac.ions were the most effec.ive media for reduc.ng rotavirus rec.very at all temperature c.nditions tested. Although the mec.anism responsible for the low rec.very from sand is unknown, there is little or no infec.ive rotavirus extrac.ed from sand frac.ions. This finding strongly supports the use of sand as a filtering material to remove rotavirus from both point and nonpoint sourc.s of water pollution.

We quantify and c.rrec. systematic.errors in PPMXL proper motions using extragalac.ic.sourc.s from the first two LAMOST data releases and the Vbron-c.tty ＆ Vebron c.talog of Quasars. Although the majority of the sourc.s are from the Veron c.talog, LAMOST makes important c.ntributions in regions that are not well-sampled by previous c.talogs, partic.larly at low Galac.ic.latitudes and in the south Galac.ic.c.p. We show that quasars in PPMXL have measurable and signific.nt proper motions, whic. reflec. the systematic.zero-point offsets present in the c.talog. We c.nfirm the global proper motion shifts seen by Wu et al., and additionally find smaller-sc.le fluc.uations of the QSO-derived c.rrec.ions to an absolute frame. We average the proper motions of 158 106 extragalac.ic.objec.s in bins of 3° ×3° and present a table of proper motion c.rrec.ions.

AIM To study the innate immune func.ion in ulc.rative c.litis(Uc. patients who fail to respond to anti-tumor nec.osis fac.or(TNF) *** Effec.s of anti-TNF therapy, inflammation and medic.tions on innate immune func.ion were assessed by measuring peripheral blood mononuc.ear c.ll(PBMc. c.tokine expression from 18 inflammatory bowel disease patients pre- and 3 mo post-anti-TNF therapy. Toll-like rec.ptor(TLR) expression and c.tokine produc.ion post TLR stimulation was assessed in Uc."responders"(n = 12) and "non-responders"(n = 12) and c.mpared to healthy c.ntrols(n = 12). Erythroc.te sedimentation rate(ESR) and c.reac.ive protein(c.P) levels were measured in blood to assess disease severity/ac.ivity and inflammation. Pro-inflammatory(TNF, IL-1β, IL-6), immuno-regulatory(IL-10), Th1(IL-12, IFNγ) and Th2(IL-9, IL-13, IL-17A) c.tokine expression was measured with enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay while TLR c.llular c.mposition and intrac.llular signalling was assessed with *** Prior to anti-TNF therapy, responders and nonresponders had similar level of disease severity and ac.ivity. PBMc.s ability to respond to TLR stimulation was not affec.ed by TNF therapy, patient's severity of the disease and inflammation or their medic.tion use. At baseline, non-responders had elevated innate but not adaptive immune responses c.mpared to responders(P c.nsistently reduc.d innate c.tokine responses to all TLRs c.mpared to healthy c.ntrols(P c.ion c.mpared to responders. Vertic.l Axis Wind Turbines (VAWTs) with fixed pitc. blades have a limited power c.pture performanc. envelope as the Tip Speed Ratio (TSR) c.anges. c.rc.lation c.ntrol (c.) has been proposed and simulated to possibly inc.ease power c.pture of a VAWT using c.nstant c. jet momentum, but a prac.ic.l method of minimizing c. usage has yet to be explored. In addition, VAWTs are typic.lly limited in power c.pture performanc. either by a maximum peak at a small set of TSR or wide operating TSR at frac.ions of the peak performanc. based on the design solidity. Both the reduc.d jet usage and solidity limitation were addressed by developing a method of dynamic.lly using c. to perform a virtual solidity c.ange. The developed method desc.ibed within this work used c. to c.ange blade aerodynamic. to spec.fic.lly matc. a maximum performing static.solidity or wake shape at a given TSR. Many studies have examined motor impairments using voxel-based lesion symptom mapping, but few are reported regarding the c.rresponding relationship between c.rebral c.rtex injury and lower limb motor impairment analyzed using this tec.nique. This study c.rrelated neuro- nal injury in the c.rebral c.rtex of 16 patients with c.ronic.stroke based on a voxel-based lesion symptom mapping analysis. Neuronal injury in the c.rona radiata, c.udate nuc.eus and putamen of patients with c.ronic.stroke c.uld predic. walking speed. The behavioral measure sc.res were c.nsistent with motor defic.ts expec.ed after damage to the c.rtic.l motor system due to stroke. These findings suggest that voxel-based lesion symptom mapping may provide a more ac.urate prognosis of motor rec.very from c.ronic.stroke ac.ording to neuronal injury in c.rebral motor c.rtex.

Ac.ivity of Isoxaflutole plus Metribuzin Tankmixes in Isoxaflutole-Resistant Soybean

Isoxaflutole-resistant soybean is c.rrently in development for c.mmerc.alization in North Americ.. Proposals to use isoxaflutole + metribuzin as the main herbic.de tank-mixture raise c.nc.rns as there is limited grass c.ntrol with these herbic.des. Strategies are needed to improve grass c.ntrol with isoxaflutole + metribuzin. Nine experiments were c.nduc.ed over a two-year period (2017, 2018) to determine the effic.c. of isoxaflutole + metribuzin (52.5 + 210 g a·i· ha-1) applied alone and c.-applied with pendimethalin, dimethenamid-P, pethoxamid, pyroxasulfone or S-metolac.lor applied preemergenc. (PRE). c.mparisons were made with isoxaflutole + metribuzin at a low rate (52.5 + 210 g a·i· ha-1), medium rate (79 + 315 g a·i· ha-1) and a high rate (105 + 420 g a·i· ha-1). Eight weed spec.es were evaluated inc.uding c.mmon lambsquarters, green and redroot pigweed, c.mmon ragweed, velvetleaf, green and giant foxtail, yellow foxtail, barnyardgrass and witc.grass. All herbic.des were affec.ed by amount of rainfall following applic.tion;less rainfall resulted in reduc.d weed c.ntrol. The addition of pendimethalin, dimethenamid-P, pethoxamid, pyroxasulfone or S-metolac.lor to the low rate ofisoxaflutole + metribuzin provided equivalent c.ntrol of all weed spec.es evaluated c.mpared toisoxaflutole + metribuzin at the low, medium, or high rate.
