Risk factors for low high-density lipoprotein among Asian Indians in the United States

AIM To examine the differences in metabolic risk factors(RFs) by gender in the Asian Indian(AI) population in the United States. METHODS Using cross-sectional data from 1038 randomly selected Asian Indians, we investigated the relationship between metabolic syndrome(Met S) RFs, cardiovascular disease,and diabetes. RESULTS A greater percent of women in this group had increased waist circumference and low high density lipoprotein(HDL) levels than men, but AI males had increased blood glucose, increased blood pressure, and increased triglycerides compared to females. Those individuals who met the Met S criteria had increased cardiovascular disease. One of the biggest single RFs for cardiovascular disease and diabetes reported in the literature for AIs is low HDL. CONCLUSION Our results show that lack of knowledge about diabetes, low physical activity, increased body mass index, and age were the factors most significantly correlated with low HDL in this population. Future studies and prospective trials are needed to further elucidate causes of the Met S and diabetes in AIs.

An approach based on deep learning for Indian sign language translation

Purpose–According to the Indian Sign Language Research and Training Centre(ISLRTC),India has approximately 300 certified human interpreters to help people with hearing *** paper aims to address the issue of Indian Sign Language(ISL)sentence recognition and translation into semantically equivalent English text in a signer-independent ***/methodology/approach–This study presents an approach that translates ISL sentences into English text using the MobileNetV2 model and Neural Machine Translation(NMT).The authors have created an ISL corpus from the Brown corpus using ISL grammar rules to perform machine *** authors’approach converts ISL videos of the newly created dataset into ISL gloss sequences using the MobileNetV2 model and the recognized ISL gloss sequence is then fed to a machine translation module that generates an English sentence for each ISL ***–As per the experimental results,pretrained MobileNetV2 model was proven the best-suited model for the recognition of ISL sentences and NMT provided better results than Statistical Machine Translation(SMT)to convert ISL text into English *** automatic and human evaluation of the proposed approach yielded accuracies of 83.3 and 86.1%,*** limitations/implications–It can be seen that the neural machine translation systems produced translations with repetitions of other translated words,strange translations when the total number of words per sentence is increased and one or more unexpected terms that had no relation to the source text on *** most common type of error is the mistranslation of places,numbers and *** this has little effect on the overall structure of the translated sentence,it indicates that the embedding learned for these few words could be ***/value–Sign language recognition and translation is a crucial step toward improving communication between the deaf and the rest of *** of the shortage of hum

Structure of Some 4f Rare Earth Liquid Metals --A Charged Hard Sphere Approach

A well-established pseodopotential is used to study the structure of some 4f rare earth liquid metals （Ce, Pr, Eu, gd, Tb, and Yb）. The structure factor S（q）, pair distribution function g（r）, interatomic distance r1, and coordination number n1 are calculated using Charged Hard Sphere （CHS） reference system. To introduce the exchange and correlation effects, the local field correction due to Sarkar et al. （S） is applied. The present investigation is successful in generating the structural information of Ce, Pr, Eu, gd, Tb, and Yb 4f rare earth liquid metals.

Soil Resources Information System for Improving Productivity Using geo-Informatics Technology

Soil surveying and mapping is an important operation, since it plays a key role in the knowledge about soil nutrients, properties and how it can be used for agriculture. This study was carried out in order to map soil chemical properties and macronutrients status in North, Center and South districts zones of gujarat state. geographic Information System (gIS) was used in this study to present the secondary data of the soil which were obtained from Anand Agriculture University (AAU), gujarat. The major objective of this study was to analyze & visualize the secondary data of soil through IDW, spatial interpolation techniques for suitable mapping in a selected North, Central and South districts of gujarat state. Various maps showing spatial distribution of micronutrients and chemical properties for North, Center and South districts zones of gujarat state were prepared. These digital maps can be used in precision farming studies with the application of fertilizers and micro-nutrients as per the requirement and the recommendations. This approach is proposed as a method for the evaluation of sustainable soil management practices such as variable rate of fertilization. This study demonstrates the usefulness of geo-informatics technology in soil survey as well as applications of various micronutrients to specific areas based on recommendations.
