Objective:To investigate the prevalence of different intestinal parasitic infections among male primary schoolchildren in Al-Ahsa,Saudi Arabia,and to explore the possible relative socioeconomic, environmental and behavioural sanitary ***:A cross-sectional descriptive study was performed.A total of 1 289 male students aged from 7 to 12 years were selected randomly from 20 urban and 12 rural primary schools by multistage sampling method. Data collection was carried out by self administered questionnaire form to the parents/guardians of students and included inquires about socio-demographics,environmental conditions,and behavioural sanitary *** analysis was carried out to examine the presence of intestinal parasitic ***:Overall prevalence of parasitic infections was 27.2%,more among rural *** encountered infections included Entamoeba histolytica/dispar(8.2%), Giardia lamblia(6.5%),Entamoeba coli(4.0%) and Enterobius vermicularis(1.6%).Logistic regression revealed that lower maternal educational level and occupational status,low family income,big family size,poor personal hygienic practices and positive history of previous intestinal infections among family members increased the likelihood of ***: Although of low magnitude,intestinal parasitic infections still represent a public health concern among male schoolchildren in Al-Ahsa ***-demographic and poor personal hygienic habits are the main predictors for these infections.

A translucent wooden substrate with long-lasting phosphorescence,high photostability and durability,tough surface,ultraviolet protection,high optical transmittance,and superhydrophobicity was *** long-lasting phosphorescent wooden substrate is able to continue emitting light for extended time ***-modified wood(LMW)was immobilized with a solution of epoxy resin(ER)and rare-earth doped aluminate(REDA)phosphor nanoparticles(NPs).For an improved dispersion of pigment,REDA was synthesized in a nanoscale particle size,and characterized by transmission electron microscopy(TEM)to indicate a particle size of 8-14 *** crystal structure of REDA nanoparticles was also proved by X-ray diffraction(XRD).For an improved production of long-persistent phosphorescent colo rless woods,REDA must be well-dispersed in MAA without *** and emissio n,as well as decay and lifetime spectra were *** morphologies of the wooden substrates with different ratios of REDA were investigated by scanning electron microscopy(SEM),X-ray fluorescence(XRF)analysis,Fourier transform infrared spectra(FT-IR),elemental mapping,and energy-dispersion Xray(EDXA).The phosphorescent woods show changes in color from colorless to green under ultraviolet(UV)irradiation,and to yellowish-green in the dark,as proved by the colorimetric parameters of the CIE Lab *** afterglow wood samples display an absorbance band at 365 nm and two phosphorescent bands at 431 and 520 *** UV shielding,photostability,and hydrophobicity were *** increasing REDA ratio,both static contact and slide angles are found to improve in the ranges of147.6°-163.6°and 9°-14°,*** long-lasting photoluminescence is optimized at a REDA ratio of 8%.The present strategy shows a large-scale production approach of multiple functional woods for many potential applications,such as smart glow in the dark windows and safety signs.

Textiles are among the most fragile artefacts in the world. They are difficult to preserve even in the best circumstances. Herein, we studied an artefacts fabric of a special nature in terms of usage. Despite the multiple applications of textiles, the piece understudy is one of the unique pieces that the ancient Egyptian used as fenders for King Khufu’s first solar boat, the second-largest discovery in Egypt history. The boat was discovered inside a limestone pit. It was disassembled and arranged in several layers. Four pillows of wrapped fabric were found in the first layer, which was used as boat fenders. This use is a great discovery of the role of textiles in the manufacture of ancient boats. Thus, we conducted tests and analytical studies of those fenders using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and an optical microscope to identify the type and nature of fibers, spinning method, and aspects of damage. Both energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis and infrared analysis (FT-IR) were employed to explore the sample’s elemental content and study the functional groups of the fabric. These analytical processes were useful in carrying out the restoration and preservation work necessary for the artefact under study.

Iron Bearing Minerals Flotation from Silica Sand Using Hydroxyl Surfactants

A technological clayey sandstone sample from Wadi Qena locality, Eastern Desert of Egypt, was directed to processing. Fine kaolin and clean silica sand were produced after intensive attrition scrubbing of the sample. To increase the quality of the produced silica, it was subjected to reverse anionic flotation to minimize its iron content. In this respect, conventional flotation tests using three anionic oxyhydryl surfactants namely: sodium dodecyl benzene sulphonate, sodium naphtha sulphonate, and sodium dodecyl sulphate, were tried. Results showed a privilege action for sodium dodecyl sulphate to remove most of the iron oxide content of the sample. A statistical Box-Behnken design was constructed to optimize the process efficiency. It was shown that from a flotation feed contained 360 ppm Fe2O3 and 1190 ppm Al2O3, sand concentrate contained 29 ppm Fe2O3 and 564 ppm Al2O3, was produced. The optimum flotation conditions were 3.86 kg/t sodium dodecyl sulphate dose, 3.22 flotation pulp pH, 1226 rpm impeller speed, and 22.24 L/min airflow rate. Variables interaction effects results showed that flotation separation efficiency was significantly influenced by air flow rate and cell impeller speed of the process.

Effect of Cyclooxygenase Inhibition on P-Glycoprotein Expression and Phenytoin Level in Brain Tissue of Pilocarpine Induced Epilepsy in Rats

Background: Increased brain P-glycoprotein (P-gp) expression may play important role in resistance to antiseizure drugs. The present work aimed to overcome the drug resistance that develop due to overexpression of P-gp with subsequent increase in brain phenytoin level in epileptic rats, using either non-selective (indomethacin) or selective (celecoxib) cyclooxygenase inhibitors. Methods: Fifty-six adult male albino rats were randomly divided into seven groups. Epilepsy was induced using the lithium pilocarpine model. Rats received indomethacin (2.5 mg/kg) or celecoxib (20 mg/kg), either alone or combined with phenytoin (50 mg/kg). Seizures were evaluated using Racine score. Motor coordination was assessed using open field and rotarod tests. Phenytoin brain level was measured using High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), glutamate expression was measured using Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA), ATP Binding Cassette Subfamily B Member 1 (ABCB1) gene expression was assessed using Real Time-Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR), and immunohistochemical analysis was done for P-gp expression. Results: Phenytoin combination with either indomethacin or celecoxib had improved the Racine score, motor coordination on rotarod apparatus, and open field test results. Also, phenytoin combination with either indomethacin or celecoxib decreased brain glutamate level, ABCB1 gene and P-gp expression, and increased brain phenytoin level compared to treatment with phenytoin alone. This indicated that both P-gp inhibitors indomethacin and celecoxib, increased the level of phenytoin that reached the brain of rats. However, brain uptake of phenytoin was significantly enhanced using celecoxib rather than indomethacin (CI 95%, 17.092: 32.808, P-value Conclusion: Cyclooxygenase inhibition using either celecoxib or indomethacin resulted in downregulation of P-gp expression, with subsequent increase in brain phenytoin level in epileptic rats.

In Frail Elderly Patients, Low-Dose Gemcitabine over 6-Hour Infusion Is Equally Effective and Less Toxic Than the Standard Gemcitabine Protocol for Advanced Pancreatic Adenocarcinoma: A Randomized Phase II Trial

Background:?Treatment of frail elderly patients with pancreatic cancer is still a major problem due to intolerance to standard chemotherapy doses. Aim:?This study aims to compare the low-dose gemcitabine over 6 hours (LD6H) to the standard gemcitabine protocol in terms of clinical benefit, survival, and safety in the frail elderly patients with advanced pancreatic adenocarcinoma. Methods:?Patients enrolled in this trial were randomly assigned by in a 1:1 fashion via closed envelope method to either receive gemcitabine of 1000 mg/m2?over 30-minute infusion on days 1, 8, and 15 of every 4-week cycle (standard protocol arm) or gemcitabine as a weekly low-dose (250 mg/m2) over 6-hour infusion (LD6H arm). Results:?We enrolled eighty-two eligible frail elderly patients with advanced pancreatic cancer. The patients were randomly assigned to receive either standard gemcitabine protocol (40 patients) or low-dose (250 mg/m2) gemcitabine over 6-hour infusion, given weekly (42 patients). There was no significant difference between the standard group and low-dose group as regard of the overall response rate (p = 0.654), the disease control rate (DCR) (p = 0.845), the median progression-free survival (PFS) (p = 0.908) and the overall survival (OS) (p = 0.331). The low-dose regimen had a significantly lower incidence of adverse effects grades 3 or 4 when compared to the standard regimen: (p = 0.024 for fatigue, p = 0.027 for hypotension, p = 0.012 for each anemia as well as thrombocytopenia, and p = 0.006 for neutropenia). Conclusion:?Low-dose gemcitabine over 6-hour infusion is equally effective and less toxic when compared to standard gemcitabine protocol in frail elderly patients with advanced pancreatic adenocarcinoma. So, we recommend the low-dose gemcitabine for frail elderly patients with advanced pancreatic cancer.
