Comprehensive semen examination in patients with pancreatic-sufficient and pancreatic-insufficient cystic fibrosis

We examined a cohort of 93 cystic fibrosis(CF)male patients who were pancreatic-sufficient(PS-CF;n=40)or pancreatic-insufficient(PI-CF;n=53).Complex semen examination was performed,including standard semen analysis,quantitative karyological analysis(QKA)of immature germ cells(IGCs),transmission electronic microscopy(TEm),biochemical analysis,and sperm DNA fragmentation by terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP nickend labeling(TUNEL)*** was diagnosed in 83(89.2%)*** other 10(10.8%)patients were found to be nonazoospermic and showed various spermatological diagnoses(asthenozoospermia,n=2;asthenoteratozoospermia,n=3;oligoasthenozoospermia,n=1;oligoasthenoteratozoospermia,n=3;and normozoospermia,n=1)with no specific morphological *** was detected in 89.2%azoospermic and 30.0%nonazoospermic *** seminal pH(mic *** leukocytospermia(2.0×10^(6)-2.2×10^(6)ml^(-1))was revealed in 2.4%azoospermic and 40.0%nonazoospermic semen *** signs of partial meiotic arrest at prophase I were found in 4 of 6 nonazoospermic patients examined by QKA of *** content of fructose and citrate was low in oligospermic and normal in nonoligospermic semen *** increased percentage(>30%)of spermatozoa with noncondensed(“immature”)chromatin was revealed in 2 of 6 nonazoospermic semen samples analyzed by TEm.

Both numerical and experimental studies of the stability and electronic properties of barium–sodium metaborate Ba_(2)Na_(3)(B_(3)O_(6))_(2)F(P63/m) at pressures up to 10 GPa have been carried out. Electronic-structure calculations with HSE06 hybrid functional showed that Ba_(2)Na_(3)(B_(3)O_(6))_(2)F has an indirect band gap of 6.289 eV. A numerical study revealed the decomposition of Ba_(2)Na_(3)(B_(3)O_(6))_(2)F into the BaB_(2)O_(4),Na BO_(2), and NaF phases above 3.4 GPa at 300 K. Subsequent high-pressure high-temperature experiments performed using ‘Discoverer-1500’DIA-type apparatus at pressures of 3 and 6 GPa and temperature of 1173 K confirmed the stability of Ba_(2)Na_(3)(B_(3)O_(6))_(2)F at 3 GPa and its decomposition into BaB_(2)O_(4), NaBO_(2), and NaF at 6 GPa, which was verified by energy-dispersive X-ray analysis and Raman spectroscopy. The observed Raman bands of the Ba_(2)Na_(3)(B_(3)O_(6))_(2)F phase were assigned by comparing the experimental and calculated spectra. The experimental Raman spectra of decomposition reaction products obtained at 6 GPa suggest the origin of a new high-pressure modification of barium metaborate BaB_(2)O_(4).

In the present work we studied the induction periods of hydrate formation of natural gas in pure water, aqueous solutions of surfactants, and in the presence of surfactant together with aluminum oxide nanopowder, the activity of which as hydrate formation inducer was studied previously. Sodium dodecyl sulfate（SDS） or neonol AF-9-12 were used as the surfactants. It was demonstrated that the addition of either surfactants or aluminum oxide powder under our experimental conditions causes a decrease in the induction period of hydrate formation from;05 min for pure water to 30–35 min for water with additives. In the case of the simultaneous presence of surfactants and aluminum oxide powder in the system, induction period decreased to;0 min. So, the synergistic effect of the combination of surfactant and oxide powder on gas hydrate nucleation was demonstrated. Possible reasons of this effect have been discussed.

Fault-block structures of the Altay-Sayan folded area （ASFA） southeastern Siberia of Russia were used as the basis for creating a 3-D model. The surface structures were projected to depths by previous correlations between long and deep faults, with all layers and deformation factors defined. The mean deformation factor （Ds） is 0.12 unit/km^3 in the upper layer, 0.012 unit/km^3 in the intermediate layer, and 0.007 unit/km^3 in the lower layer of the 3-D ASFA neotectonic model. Ds allows correlation of the three distinguished layers with theological bodies that differ in their potential for accumulating elastic energy. 3-D modeling can be used as a methodological approach to projections in seismic prone areas such as the Krasnoyarsk region, for earthquake-hazard monitoring.

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)is the most common chronic liver disease,leading to fibrosis,cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma and also associated with increased cardiovascular disease *** pathogenesis of NAFLD is not fully understood,although NAFLD is thought to be a hepatic form of metabolic *** is an increasing understanding of the role of microbiota disturbances in NAFLD pathogenesis,and as with many other conditions affecting the microbiota,NAFLD may be a novel risk factor for Clostridioides difficile(***)colonization(CDC)and *** infection(CDI).CDI is an emerging nosocomial disease,and community-acquired cases of infection are growing,probably due to an increase in CDC *** association of NAFLD with CDI has been shown in only 4 studies to date,three of which included less than 1000 patients,although the frequency of NAFLD in these studies was observed in almost 20%of the total patient *** data revealed that NAFLD is a risk factor for CDI development and,moreover,is a risk factor for intestinal complications of *** studies are needed to investigate this association and move forward CDC and CDI screening efforts for this group of patients.

AIm To determine peculiarities of tissue responses to manual and automated Ilizarov bone distraction in nerves and articular *** Twenty-nine dogs were divided in two experimental groups: Group m-leg lengthening with manual distraction(1 mm/d in 4 steps), Group A-automated distraction(1 mm/d in 60 steps) and intact group. Animals were euthanized at the end of distraction, at 30 th day of fixation in apparatus and 30 d after the fixator removal. m-responses in gastrocnemius and tibialis anterior muscles were recorded, numerical histology of peronealand tibialis nerves and knee cartilage semi-thin sections, scanning electron microscopy and X-ray electron probe microanalysis were *** Better restoration of m-response amplitudes in leg muscles was noted in A-group. Fibrosis of epineurium with adipocytes loss in peroneal nerve, subperineurial edema and fibrosis of endoneurium in some fascicles of both nerves were noted only in m-group, shares of nerve fibers with atrophic and degenerative changes were bigger in m-group than in A-group. At the end of experiment morphometric parameters of nerve fibers in peroneal nerve were comparable with intact nerve only in A-group. Quantitative parameters of articular cartilage(thickness, volumetric densities of chondrocytes, percentages of isogenic clusters and empty cellular lacunas, contents of sulfur and calcium) were badly changed in m-group and less changed in *** Automated Ilizarov distraction is more safe method of orthopedic leg lengthening than manual distraction in points of nervous fibers survival and articular cartilage arthrotic changes.

Fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy （FLIm） has gained popularity as a sensitive technique to monitor the functional/conformational states of reduced nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide （NADH）, one of the main compounds of oxidative phosphorylation. In this letter, we apply the technique to characterize the metabolic changes in mouse embryonic fibroblast 3T3 cells upon bacterial infection. A gradual shortening of the decaying time constants in both the short and the long lifetime components of NADH＇s autofluorescence is detected. The ratio of the short and the long lifetime components＇ relative contributions, however, shows a rapid increase, indicating the rise of cellular metabolic activity over the course of infection.
