Asymptomatic dengue infection in adults of major cities of Pakistan

Objective: To determine the asymptomatic dengue infection in adults of Pakistani ***: This study was conducted in five major cities(Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore,Multan, and Peshawar) of Pakistan.A total of 5 230 adults aged 18 years and above without a history of dengue fever at any point in their life were enrolled from participating *** who were confirmed for dengue previously were *** the total, 62.6%(n = 3 276) were male with an average age of 34.6 *** were briefed about the objectives of the study, and written consent was obtained to perform dengue Ig G test using enzyme linked immunosorbent *** brief information related to age, gender and area was also taken on ***: Overall 32.3%(n = 1 691) was having asymptomatic dengue infection which was 67.5%(n = 756) in Karachi followed by 39.1%(n = 391) in Islamabad, 29.9%(n =316) in Lahore and 21%(n = 228) in Peshawar and none from *** males were affected with asymptomatic dengue infection than *** asymptomatic dengue infection was significantly higher in different cities; however, there was no significant difference with respect to age ***: The asymptomatic dengue infection is higher in cities ***,Islamabad and Lahore which are at risk of developing secondary dengue *** is a need of awareness among the public about secondary dengue infection.

Acute and Chronic Toxicity of Thioacteamide and Alterations in Blood Cell Indices in Rats

Background: Thioacetamide (TAA) has been used extensively in the development of suitable animal models of acute and chronic liver injury employing various doses, times and routes of its administration, particularly in drinking water due to its resemblance with human liver fibrosis and cirrhosis. The aim of this study was to investigate and compare hematological alteration during the acute and chronic liver inflammation. Methods: Acute Liver inflammation was induced in Wistar rats via intraperitoneal injection of thioacetamide and the animals were sacrificed 12 h after the TAA administration. Induction of chronic liver inflammation was performed by continuous administration of TAA in the drinking water (200 mg/L) during 18 weeks of experiment. After that all animals were sacrificed and Blood samples were collected for further analysis. Results: Single intra peritoneal injection of TAA (300 mg/kg B.W.) induced an acute condition with hematological changes including leukocytosis with marked neutrophilia (P = 0.0429), lymphopenia, thrombocytosis as well as increased hemoglobin concentration (P 0.05) and decline of erythrocytic count (P = 0.0009). Eighteen weeks of uninterrupted supply of TAA (200 mg/L) in drinking water lead to chronic inflammation and the hematological alterations were leucopenia (P = 0.0197) accompanied with neutropenia and thrombocytopenia. Increase in RBCs (P = 0.0073) and Hb contents was also observed with a decline of red cell indices. Conclusion: Taken together these findings we can conclude that the animals respond differently under acute and chronic inflammatory condition with TAA administration. Leukocytosis with marked neutrophilia, thrombocytosis as well as increased hemoglobin concentration and decline of erythrocytic count were observed in acute while leucopenia accompanied with neutropenia and thrombocytopenia and increase in RBCs, Hb and Hct was also observed with a decline of other red cell indices during chronic phase.

Banana is an edible fruit and is herbaceous flowering plant belonging to the genus Musa and the family *** is also eaten as cooked vegetable(and is then called plantains).All the edible banana fruits are seedless(parthenocarpic)and belong to two main species,Musa acuminata Colla and Musa balbisiana *** hybrid from these two species Musa x paradisiaca *** also available *** banana is native to Indomalaya and Australia,Papua New Guinea was the first to domesticate this *** has now spread to almost 135 countries around the *** per 2016 data,nearly 28 per cent of the total world’s banana production comes from India and *** group banana,being the main export item from the banana-exporting countries,usually refers to soft,sweet,and dessert banana in the Western countries,but the plantain bananas have firm,starchy fruit which is suitable for cooking as a *** is known to be rich not only in carbohydrates,dietary fibres,certain vitamins and minerals,but is also rich in many health-promoting bioactive *** composition including various bioactives and their health contributions has been reviewed in this paper.

The choice of a type of combustion technology to be used for heat or power generation depends on economic,technical,operational and fuel availability *** benefits associated with the evolving market driven by the fluidised bed combustion(FBC)technology cannot be overlooked especially when gauged at 65 GWth of worldwide installed capacity alongside added benefits of handling fuel variation,low pollutant emissions and high combustion *** or biomass waste will continue to have a vital role to play in the future FBC technology-based power *** often contains high levels of inorganic species that can form sticky agglomerates posing a significant risk to boiler operation resulting in unscheduled *** added complexity of the behaviour of the fuel and bed material mix highlights the requirement for simulation models to identify agglomeration to help improve the overall performance and reliability of FBC *** resolve this problem,this research devised a simulation strategy for the detection of agglomeration using the Eulerian–Eulerian *** developed modelling strategy is validated with the experimental data available in literature for two-dimensional simplified geometry of a pilot-scale fluidised bed *** model results were found promising and robust to predict bed defluidisation times and other parameters consistent with the experimental data.

The technical complexity and protracted learning curve before achievingperfection in laparoscopic surgery （LS） have paved the way to thedevelopment of hand-assisted laparoscopic surgery （HALS）, which hasevolved as a hybrid of open and laparoscopic approach, while keeping theconvenience and safety of the former and advantages of minimallyinvasive surgery （MIS） of the latter. As its name implies, this noveltechnique allows the surgeon to introduce the non-dominant hand into theabdominal cavity to assist the surgery through a hand-assisted devicewhile maintaining pneumoperitoneum. The purpose of this study was toexamine the results of a single surgeon’s experience with hand-assistedlaparoscopic left colon resection for malignancy;as it is one of the mostchallenging procedure due to the narrow pelvis and complex anatomy. Weconducted a retrospective analysis of30specific selected cases ofcolorectal carcinoma confined to the left side involving the descendingcolon, sigmoid colon and rectum5cm above the anal margin;whichunderwent hand-assisted laparoscopic resection between September2010 and December2011, using the Dextrus （Ethicon Endo-Surgery, INC,USA） hand-assisted device （HAD）. The clinical records were criticallyreviewed and analyzed in terms of the most important operative andpostoperative evaluation parameters. We observed a remarkable operativetime of110minutes after only15cases done with a minimal blood loss of100ml and achieved a100%success rate as there were no intra-operativecomplications necessitating conversion to open technique and as well asno postoperative complications noted till date. Hence, we concluded thathand-assisted laparoscopic surgery is a highly reliable, feasible and awin-win approach to both the surgeon and the patient;furthermore ahelping hand inside the abdomen is a psychological inspiration inciting theconfidence of novel surgeons, initiating them to cross the bridge towardsmore complex advanced laparoscopic surgery, while it can be the las

Lumbar spinal stenosis is caused by the compression of the nerve root or cauda equina nerve by stenosis of the lumbar spinal canal or intervertebral foramen,and is manifested as chronic low back and leg *** Tongdu(DLTD)tablets can relieve chronic pain caused by lumbar spinal stenosis,but the molecular mechanism remains largely *** this study,the potential molecular mechanism of DLTD tablets in the treatment of lumbar spinal stenosis was first predicted by the network pharmacology *** showed that DLTD functions in regulating anti-oxidative,apoptosis,and inflammation signaling ***,the flow cytometry results showed that DLTD tablets efficiently reduced reactive oxygen species content and inhibited rat neural stem cell apoptosis induced by hydrogen *** also inhibited the mitochondrial membrane potential damage induced by hydrogen *** analysis showed that DLTD induced cell cycle-related protein,CDK2 and CDK4,and reduced CDKN1A protein expression *** together,our study provided new insights of DLTD in treating lumbar spinal stenosis through reducing reactive oxygen species content,decreasing apoptosis by inhibiting CDKN1A and promoting CDK2 and CDK4 expression levels.
