Implications of future climate change on crop and irrigation water requirements in a semi-arid river basin using CMIp6 GCMs

Agriculture faces risks due to increasing stress from climate change,particularly in semi-arid *** of understanding of crop water requirement(CWR)and irrigation water requirement(IWR)in a changing climate may result in crop failure and socioeconomic problems that can become detrimental to agriculture-based economies in emerging nations *** research in CWR and IWR has largely focused on large river basins and scenarios from the Coupled Model Intercomparison project phase 3(CMIp3)and Coupled Model Intercomparison project phase 5(CMIp5)to account for the impacts of climate change on *** basins,however,are more susceptible to regional climate change,with more significant impacts on *** study estimates CWRs and IWRs for five crops(sugarcane,wheat,cotton,sorghum,and soybean)in the pravara River Basin(area of 6537 km^(2))of India using outputs from the most recent Coupled Model Intercomparison project phase 6(CMIp6)General Circulation Models(GCMs)under Shared Socio-economic pathway(SSp)245 and SSp585 *** increase in mean annual rainfall is projected under both scenarios in the 2050s and 2080s using ten selected CMIp6 *** for all crops may decline in almost all of the CMIp6 GCMs in the 2050s and 2080s(with the exceptions of ACCESS-CM-2 and ACCESS-ESM-1.5)under SSp245 and SSp585 *** availability of increasing soil moisture in the root zone due to increasing rainfall and a decrease in the projected maximum temperature may be responsible for this decline in ***,except for soybean and cotton,the projected IWRs for all other three crops under SSp245 and SSp585 scenarios show a decrease or a small increase in the 2050s and 2080s in most CMIp6 *** findings are important for agricultural researchers and water resource managers to implement long-term crop planning techniques and to reduce the negative impacts of climate change and associated rainfall variability to avert crop failure and agricultural

Automatization of Forest Fire Detection Using Geospatial Technique

Healthy forest is the vital resource to regulate climate at a regional and global level. Forest fire has been regarded as one of the major reasons for the loss of forest and degradation of the environment. Global warming is increasing its intensity at an alarming rate. Real-time fire detection is a necessity to avoid large scale losses. Remote sensing is a quick and cheap technique for detecting and monitoring forest fires on a large scale. Advance Very Radiometer Resolution (AVHRR) has been used already for a long period for fire detection. The use of Moderate Resolution Imaging Radio Spectrometer (MODIS) for fire detection has recently preceded AVHRR and a large number of fire products are being developed. MODIS based forest fire detection and monitoring system can solve the problem of real-time forest fire monitoring. The system facilitates data acquisition, processing, reporting and feedback on the fire location information in an automated manner. It provides location information at 1 × 1 kilometer resolution on the active fires which are present during the satellite overpass twice a day. The users are provided with the information on SMS alert with fire location details, email notification, and online visualization of fire locations on website automatically. The whole processes are automated and provide better accuracy for fire detection.

Composition, structure and diversity characterization of dry tropical forest of Chhattisgarh using satellite data

The purpose of this study was to characterize the land use, vegetation structure, and diversity in the Barnowpara Sanctuary, Raipur district, Chhattisgarh, India through the use of satellite remote sensing and GIS. Land cover and vegetation were spatially analyzed by digitally classifying IRS 1D LISS III satellite data using a maximum likelihood algorithm. Later, the variations in structure and diversity in different forest types and classes were quantified by adopting quadratic sampling proce- dures. Nine land-cover types were delineated： teak forest, dense mixed forest, degraded mixed forest, Sal mixed forest, open mixed forest, young teak plantation, grasslands, agriculture, habitation, and water bodies. The classification accuracy for different land-use classes ranged from 71.23% to 100%. The highest accuracy was observed in water bodies and grass- land, followed by habitation and agriculture, teak forest, degraded mixed forest, and dense mixed forest. The accuracy was lower in open mixed forest, and sal mixed forest. Results revealed that density of different forest types varied from 324 to 733 trees ha-l, basal area from 8.13 to 28.87 ***-1 and number of species from 20 to 40. Similarly, the diversity ranged from 1.36 to 2.98, concentration of dominance from 0.06 to 0.49, species richness from 3.88 to 6.86, and beta diversity from 1.29 to 2.21. The sal mixed forest type recorded the highest basal area, diversity was highest in the dense mixed forest, and the teak forest recorded maximum density, which was poor in degraded mixed forests. The study also showed that Normalized Difference Vegetation Index （NDVI） was strongly cor- related to with the Shannon Index and species richness.

Signature of the 27-day variation in hemispheric sunspot activity and asymmetry during 2010-2015

In the present work,we study the time evolution,significance of the N-S asymmetry excesses presented as a function of the solar cycle and prominent rotational periods(~27 d)separately for the northern and southern *** have investigated short-term variations of the hemispheric solar activity(sunspot numbers and sunspot areas)during the time period 2010-2015,which covers the ascending and the maximum phase of solar cycle *** have implemented the Lomb-Scargle periodogram and continuous wavelet transform power spectrum techniques to study the time evolution and dominant rotational periods separately for the northern and southern hemispheres,and whole solar *** results showed that the northern hemisphere exhibited longer solar synodic periods than the southern hemisphere,indicating that the northern hemisphere has a lower rotation ***,the northern hemisphere was found to be dominant before transferring to the southern hemisphere during ***,the sunspot areas clearly demonstrated a two-peak structure of solar activity in the northern and southern hemispheres respectively during 2012 and *** statistical significance of the southern hemisphere affirmed enhanced excess during the maximum phase of solar cycle 24.

High-yield fabrication of perpendicularly magnetised synthetic antiferromagnetic nanodiscs

Synthetic antiferromagnetic (SAF) particles with perpendicular anisotropy display a number of desirable characteristics for applications in biological and other fluid environments. We present an efficient and effective method for the patterning of ultrathin Ruderman-Kittel-Kasuya-Yoshida coupled, perpendicularly magnetised SAFs using a combination of nanosphere lithography and ion milling. A Ge sacrificial layer is utilised, which provides a clean and simple lift-off process, as well as maintaining the key magnetic properties that are beneficial to target applications. We demonstrate that the method is capable of producing a particularly high yield of well-defined, thin film based nanoparticles.

Utilization of alkali-activated copper slag as binder in concrete

This study was focused on developing concrete using alkali-activated copper slag(AACS)as a *** properties of alkali-activated copper slag concrete(AACSC)were compared with portland cement concrete(pCC).Different AACSC mixes were prepared with varying Na_(2)O dosage(6%and 8%of the binder by weight)and curing *** products in AACSC were retrieved using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR)and X-ray powder diffraction(XRD)*** test results indicate that the workability of AACSC was lesser than that of *** AACSC mix with 6%Na_(2)O dosage has exhibited similar mechanical properties as that of *** mechanical properties of AACSC were higher than pCC when 8%of Na_(2)O dosage was *** curing was effective to upgrade the strength properties of AACSC at an early age of curing,but at a later age mechanical properties of ambient cured and heat-cured AACSC were *** hydration products of AACSC were not identified in XRD patterns,whereas,in FTIR spectra of AACSC some alkali-activated reaction products were *** AACSC mixes were found to be more sustainable than *** has been concluded that AACSC can be produced similarly to that of pCC and ambient curing is sufficient.

Reflection of three-dimensional plane waves at the free surface of a rotating triclinic half-space under the context of generalized thermoelasticity

The reflection of three-dimensional(3D) plane waves in a highly anisotropic(triclinic) medium under the context of generalized thermoelasticity is studied. The thermoelastic nature of the 3D plane waves in an anisotropic medium is investigated in the perspective of the three-phase-lag(TpL), dual-phase-lag(DpL), Green-Naghdi-III(GNIII), Lord-Shulman(LS), and classical coupled(CL) theories. The reflection coefficients and energy ratios for all the reflected waves are obtained in a mathematical form. The rotational effects on the reflection characteristics of the 3D waves are discussed under the context of generalized thermoelasticity. Comparative analyses for the reflection coefficients of the waves among these generalized thermoelastic theories are performed. The energy ratios for each of the reflected waves establish the energy conservation law in the reflection phenomena of the plane waves. The highly anisotropic materials along with the rotation may have a significant role in the phenomenon of the reflection behavior of the 3D waves. Numerical computations are performed for the graphical representation of the study.

Rayleigh-type wave propagation in incompressible visco-elastic media under initial stress

propagation of Rayleigh-type surface waves in an incompressible visco-elastic material over incompressible visco-elastic semi-infinite media under the effect of initial stresses is discussed. The dispersion equation is determined to study the effect of differ- ent types of parameters such as inhomogeneity, initial stress, wave number, phase velocity, damping factor, visco-elasticity, and incompressibility on the Rayleigh-type wave prop- agation. It is found that the affecting parameters have a significant effect on the wave propagation. Cardano＇s and Ferrari＇s methods are deployed to estimate the roots of dif- ferential equations associated with layer and semi-infinite media. The MATHEMATICA software is applied to explicate the effect of these parameters graphically.

Solution and Thermodynamic Studies on Binary and Ternary Complexes of Lanthanides

The interactions of La（ Ⅲ ）, pr（ Ⅲ ）, Nd（ Ⅲ ）, Sm（ Ⅲ ）, Eu（Ⅲ）, Gd（ Ⅲ ）, Dy（ Ⅲ ）, and Yb（ Ⅲ ） with cytosine, 5-bromocytosine, 5-azacytosine and 5-flurocytosine as primary ligands （L） and guanine （A） as secondary ligand for both binary （ 1 ： 1 ） as well as ternary （ 1 ： 1 ： 1 ） systems were investigated by potentiometric equilibrium measurements at 25, 35 and 45 ℃ in aqueous solution （ionic strength, μ = 0.1 mol·dm^-3 NaNO3）. The stability constants of the binary （ 1 ： 1 ） and ternary （ 1 ： 1 ： 1 ） metal-ligand complexes follow the following order La 〈 pr 〈 Nd 〈 Sm 〈 Eu 〉 Gd 〈 Dy 〉 Yb. Results also indicate that the ternary lanthanide complexes of La（Ⅲ）, pr（Ⅲ）, Nd（Ⅲ）, Sm（Ⅲ）, Eu（Ⅲ）, Gd（Ⅲ）, Dy（Ⅲ）, and Yb（ Ⅲ ） are more stable than corresponding binary lanthanide complexes. The enthalpy （△Hf^o） and entropy （△Sf^o） changes for the formation of binary and ternary complexes were calculated from temperature coefficient data. The △△Sf^o values are positive for all the metal ligand systems. The negative △△Hf^o values indicate the extra stability of the ternary complexes by the exothermic enthalpy changes （△△Sf^o = △TSf^o - △BSf^o and △△Hf^o = △THf^o - △BHf^o where △TSf^o, △THf^o and △BSf^o, △BHf^o are the entropy and enthalpy values associated with the ternary and binary complexes, respectively）. It was also proposed that the guanine is bonded to metal ions through N1/C6 = O and N7 whereas cytosine and its derivatives are bonded through N3 atoms in ternary complexes.
