Strengthening of Pultruded Glass FRP Section Combined with Concrete Slab Using CFRP Plates

This paper demonstrates the possibility of combining both glass and carbon FRP （Fibre Reinforced Polymer） composite materials with a low-cost construction material （i.e. concrete） in a hybrid system that brings higher performance levels to the design of lightweight, corrosion resistant, yet inexpensive beams providing acceptable structural properties. The objective of the research is to investigate the behaviour of a hybrid composite section under flexure. The hybrid section consists of a top concrete slab, Glass Fibre Reinforced Polymer （GFRP） beam section and Carbon Fibre Reinforced Polymer （CFRP） laminate on the extreme underside. This maximizes the benefits of each material, that is： high tensile strength of CFRP, compressive strength and low cost of concrete, light weight and lower cost of GFRP, and high corrosion resistance of all components. Three beam samples were manufactured and tested to failure while monitoring deflections and strains. By adding CFRP layers under the concrete-GFRP composite beam increases the bending strength and reduces the deflection. The most important factor in the proposed strengthening technique of GFRP-concrete composite beams by using CFRP is the adhesive material that bonds the CFRP to the GFRP. Any weakness in CFRP-GFRP bond may cause brittle failure of the beam. The study results indicate the benefits of using hybrid FRP-concrete beams to increase flexural load carrying capacity and beam stiffness and provide a numerical model that can be further developed to model more advanced material arrangements in the future. The outcome of this research provides information for both designers and researchers in the field of FRP composites.

Analytic continuation extended Kalman filter framework for perturbed orbit estimation using a network of space-based observers with anglesonly measurements

This work presents a new method for space-based angles-only orbit *** approach relies on the integration of a novel and highly accurate Analytic Continuation technique with a new measurement model for multiple observers for inertial orbit *** Continuation computes the perturbed orbit dynamics,as well as the perturbed state transition matrix(STM),in the inertial frame.A new measurement model is developed for simultaneous measurements using a constellation of low-cost observers with monocular cameras for angles-only *** Continuation and the new measurement model are integrated in an Extended Kalman Filter(EKF)framework,where the Analytic Continuation method is used to propagate the perturbed dynamics and compute the perturbed STM and error covariance,with the measurements obtained via the new measurement *** case studies comprising small and large constellations of observers are presented,along with cases of sparse measurements and a study of the computational efficiency of the proposed *** results show that the new approach is capable of producing highly accurate and computationally efficient perturbed orbit estimation results compared with classical EKF implementations.

The Hidden Value of Assessing Right Ventricular Performance with Exercise in Hypertensive Patients with Left Ventricular Diastolic Dysfunction

Background: Right ventricular (RV) dysfunction could develop during exercise in patients with both hypertension and left ventricular diastolic dysfunction and may contribute to the patient symptoms. The objective is to assess RV function, both at rest and during exercise in patients with hypertension and left ventricular diastolic dysfunction. Methods: We included 30 patients with hypertension and resting LV diastolic dysfunction. The systolic function of the right ventricle was assessed by TAPSE (Tricuspid Annular Plane Systolic Excursion) and S, while E/A ratio, annular lateral E’, E/E’ and E’/A’ were used to measure diastolic function. The global function of the right ventricle was assessed by measuring the right indexed myocardial performance. The dimensions and pulmonary pressures were also measured. Results: The following parameters of RV systolic function were increased significantly with exercise: TAPSE (P = 0.0054), S’ (P = 0.0045). Moreover, the following diastolic parameters of the RV increased significantly with exercise: E/E’ (P = 0.05), A’ (P = 0.04). The global RV function showed also a significant increase (P = 0.0011). Investigation of androgen receptor-dependent alternative splicing has identified a unique subtype of lethal prostate cancer

Small non-protein coding micro-RNAs are regularly exported out of cells, both in health and disease. More than ninety percent of extracellular miRNAs are associated with lower-molecular-mass complexes bound to Argonaute 2 (Ago2), nucleophosmin-1 (NPM1) and high density lipoproteins (HDL), whereas the rest (~10%) are membrane-vesicle-encapsulated within exosomes, shedding microvesicles and apoptotic bodies. Regardless of the debate of the nature of circulating miRNA as byproducts of routine cell activities or mediators of cell-cell communication, proper understanding of the molecular behaviors of miRNA in health and disease, is expected to open a new gate for the discovery of new diagnostic tools and possibly therapeutic implementation in the near future.

Evaluating Biotic elicitation with Phenylalanine and/or Yeast for Rosemary (<i>Rosmarinus officinals</i>L.) Sustainable Improvement under Traditional and Organic Agriculture

Rosemary (Rosmrinus officinals) is one of the most important medicinal plants was cultivated for two subsequent seasons field experiment trial (March 2018, 2019) designed as factorial split-plot design with three replicates. The main factor 4 biotic elicitors: control (E1), phenylalanine (E2), yeast (E3) and (E4), E2 + F3 Whereas, the sub-main factor, four fertilizers: (F1) NPK, (F2) 1/2NPK + PGPB and humic acid + PGPB (F3), and moringa dry leaves extract. + PGPB (F4). Statistical analysis for collected data revealed significant promotion for growth traits leading to significant increment biomass yield, secondary metabolites production and quality. Total phenolics, total flavonoids and essential oil its terpenes contents in which solitary, E2, E3 acted positive significant impact while E4exhiboted significant positive impact over E1 whereas, F1-4 achieved significant increment in which, biofertilser f4 > f3 > f2 over NPK biofertilser, while paired E1-4 with F1-4 performed E4E4 exceeded E3F3 exceeded E3F2 that exceeded E1F1. Therefore, multi-repeating elicitation with E2, 3, 4 coupled with Biofertilizers F2, 4 could be considered as eco-friendly innovative reliable practical application for sustainable improvement and sustainable use that exceeded significantly over traditional agriculture NPK alone or 1/2 NPK-PGPB for R. officinals.

A novel forecasting approach to schedule aggregated electric vehicle charging

To be able to schedule the charging demand of an electric vehicle fleet using smart charging,insight is required into different charging session characteristics of the considered fleet,including the number of charging sessions,their charging demand and arrival and departure *** use of forecasting techniques can reduce the uncertainty about these charging session characteristics,but since these characteristics are interrelated,this is not ***,forecasting frameworks that cover all required characteristics to schedule the charging of an electric vehicle fleet are absent in scientific *** cover this gap,this study proposes a novel approach for forecasting the charging requirements of an electric vehicle fleet,which can be used as input to schedule their aggregated charging *** the first step of this approach,the charging session characteristics of an electric vehicle fleet are translated to three parameter values that describe a virtual ***,optimal predictor variable and hyperparameter sets are *** serve as input for the last step,in which the virtual battery parameter values are *** approach has been tested on a real-world case study of public charging stations,considering a high number of predictor variables and different forecasting models(Multivariate Linear Regression,Random Forest,Artificial Neural Network and k-Nearest Neighbors).The results show that the different virtual battery parameters can be forecasted with high accuracy,reaching R^(2) scores up to 0.98 when considering 400 charging *** addition,the results indicate that the forecasting performance of all considered models is somehow similar and that only a low number of predictor variables are required to adequately forecast aggregated electric vehicle charging characteristics.

Improving patient care and accuracy of given doses in radiation therapy using in vivo dosimetry verification

Objective This work aims to verify and improve the dose given for cancer patients in radiation therapy by using diodes to enhance patient in vivo dosimetry on a routine basis. Some characteristics of two available semi-conductor diode dosimetry systems were evaluated. Methods The diodes had been calibrated to read the dose at Dmax below the surface. Correction factors of clinical relevance were quantified to convert the diode readings into patient dose. The diode was irradiated at various gantry angles （increments of 45~）, various Field Sizes and various Source to Surface Distances （SSDs）. Results The maximal response variation in the angular response with respect to an arbitrary angle of 0~ was 1.9%, and the minimum variation was 0.5%. The response of the diode with respect to various field siz- es showed the minimum and the maximum variations in the measured dose from the diode; the calculated doses were -1.6% （for 5 cm x 5 cm field size） and 6.6% （for 40 cm x 40 cm field size）. The diode exhibited a significant perturbation in the response, which decreased with increasing SSD. No discrepancies larger than 5% were detected between the expected dose and the measured dose. Conclusion The results indicate that the diodes exhibit excellent linearity, dose reproducibility and minimal anisotropy; that they can be used with confidence for patient dose verification. Furthermore, diodes render real time verification of the dose delivered to patients.

Dynamic tracking of stem cells in an acute liver failure model

AIM： To investigate a dual labeling technique, which would enable real-time monitoring of transplanted em- bryonic stem cell （ESC） kinetics, as well as long-term tracking. METHODS： Liver damage was induced in C57/BL6 male mice （n = 40） by acetaminophen （APAP） 300 mg/kg administered intraperitoneally. Green fluores- cence protein （GFP） positive C57/BL6 mouse ESCs were stained with the near-infrared fluorescent lipophilic tracer 1,1-dioctadecyl-3,3,3,3-tetramethylindotricarbo- cyanine iodide （DiR） immediately before transplantationinto the spleen. Each of the animals in the cell therapy group （n = 20） received 5 x 106 ESCs 4 h following treatment with APAP. The control group （n = 20） re- ceived the vehicle only. The distribution and dynamics of the cells were monitored in real-time with the IVIS lumina-2 at 30 rain post transplantation, then at 3, 12, 24, 48 and 72 h, and after one and 2 wk. Immunohisto- chemical examination of liver tissue was used to identify expression of GFP and albumin. Plasma alanine amino- transferase （ALT） was measured as an indication of liver ***： DiR-stained ESCs were easily tracked with the IVIS using the indocyanine green filter due to its high background passband with minimal background autofluorescence. The transplanted cells were confined inside the spleen at 30 min post-transplantation, gradu- ally moved into the splenic vein, and were detectable in parts of the liver at the 3 h time-point. Within 24 h of transplantation, homing of almost 90% of cells was confirmed in the liver. On day three, however, the DiR signal started to fade out, and ex vivo IVIS imaging of different organs allowed signal detection at time-points when the signal could not be detected by in vivo imag- ing, and confirmed that the highest photon emission was in the liver （P 〈 0.0001）.
