Computed tomography scan imaging in diagnosing acute uncomplicated pancreatitis: Usefulness vs cost

BACKGROUND Literature has suggested that imaging is over-utilized in the diagnosis of pancreatitis. If the diagnosis of acute pancreatitis(AP) is established with abdominal pain and increased serum amylase or lipase activity without systemic signs of severe disease, computed tomography(CT) imaging may not be necessary. We hypothesize that among patients with uncomplicated acute pancreatitis(AUP), there is a significant number of unwarranted CT imaging studies. This imposes increased expenditure and cost in our healthcare system and does not improve hospital stay or management of *** To assess the overutilization and associated cost of CT imaging among patients meeting diagnostic criteria for *** In this Institutional Review Board-approved retrospective, single-center study,we identified all adult patients admitted with AP from January 1, 2012 through October 1, 2017. Patients were identified via International Classification of Diseases(ICD-9) code for AP(577.0) and ICD-10 codes for different etiological AP(K85.9 unspecified, K85.0 idiopathic, K85.1 biliary, K85.2 alcohol-induced, K85.3 drug-induced, and K85.8 other). Diagnosis was confirmed by chart review using established non-imaging diagnostic criteria(presence of typical abdominal pain and elevated lipase or amylase greater than 3 times upper limit of normal).Ranson criteria and BISAP scores on presentation were calculated and patients that met scores less than or equal to 2 for both were included to suggest *** utilization and cost of imaging in these patients were *** Between January 2012 and October 2017, 1305 patients presented to the emergency department with AP, and 405 patients(31%) met our inclusion criteria for AUP(201 males, 204 females; mean age 49 years, range 18-98). Analytic continuation extended Kalman filter framework for perturbed orbit estimation using a network of space-based observers with anglesonly measurements

This work presents a new method for space-based angles-only orbit *** approach relies on the integration of a novel and highly accurate Analytic Continuation technique with a new measurement model for multiple observers for inertial orbit *** Continuation computes the perturbed orbit dynamics,as well as the perturbed state transition matrix(STM),in the inertial frame.A new measurement model is developed for simultaneous measurements using a constellation of low-cost observers with monocular cameras for angles-only *** Continuation and the new measurement model are integrated in an Extended Kalman Filter(EKF)framework,where the Analytic Continuation method is used to propagate the perturbed dynamics and compute the perturbed STM and error covariance,with the measurements obtained via the new measurement *** case studies comprising small and large constellations of observers are presented,along with cases of sparse measurements and a study of the computational efficiency of the proposed *** results show that the new approach is capable of producing highly accurate and computationally efficient perturbed orbit estimation results compared with classical EKF implementations.

A novel forecasting approach to schedule aggregated electric vehicle charging

To be able to schedule the charging demand of an electric vehicle fleet using smart charging,insight is required into different charging session characteristics of the considered fleet,including the number of charging sessions,their charging demand and arrival and departure *** use of forecasting techniques can reduce the uncertainty about these charging session characteristics,but since these characteristics are interrelated,this is not ***,forecasting frameworks that cover all required characteristics to schedule the charging of an electric vehicle fleet are absent in scientific *** cover this gap,this study proposes a novel approach for forecasting the charging requirements of an electric vehicle fleet,which can be used as input to schedule their aggregated charging *** the first step of this approach,the charging session characteristics of an electric vehicle fleet are translated to three parameter values that describe a virtual ***,optimal predictor variable and hyperparameter sets are *** serve as input for the last step,in which the virtual battery parameter values are *** approach has been tested on a real-world case study of public charging stations,considering a high number of predictor variables and different forecasting models(Multivariate Linear Regression,Random Forest,Artificial Neural Network and k-Nearest Neighbors).The results show that the different virtual battery parameters can be forecasted with high accuracy,reaching R^(2) scores up to 0.98 when considering 400 charging *** addition,the results indicate that the forecasting performance of all considered models is somehow similar and that only a low number of predictor variables are required to adequately forecast aggregated electric vehicle charging characteristics.

Dynamic tracking of stem cells in an acute liver failure model

AIM： To investigate a dual labeling technique, which would enable real-time monitoring of transplanted em- bryonic stem cell （ESC） kinetics, as well as long-term tracking. METHODS： Liver damage was induced in C57/BL6 male mice （n = 40） by acetaminophen （APAP） 300 mg/kg administered intraperitoneally. Green fluores- cence protein （GFP） positive C57/BL6 mouse ESCs were stained with the near-infrared fluorescent lipophilic tracer 1,1-dioctadecyl-3,3,3,3-tetramethylindotricarbo- cyanine iodide （DiR） immediately before transplantationinto the spleen. Each of the animals in the cell therapy group （n = 20） received 5 x 106 ESCs 4 h following treatment with APAP. The control group （n = 20） re- ceived the vehicle only. The distribution and dynamics of the cells were monitored in real-time with the IVIS lumina-2 at 30 rain post transplantation, then at 3, 12, 24, 48 and 72 h, and after one and 2 wk. Immunohisto- chemical examination of liver tissue was used to identify expression of GFP and albumin. Plasma alanine amino- transferase （ALT） was measured as an indication of liver ***： DiR-stained ESCs were easily tracked with the IVIS using the indocyanine green filter due to its high background passband with minimal background autofluorescence. The transplanted cells were confined inside the spleen at 30 min post-transplantation, gradu- ally moved into the splenic vein, and were detectable in parts of the liver at the 3 h time-point. Within 24 h of transplantation, homing of almost 90% of cells was confirmed in the liver. On day three, however, the DiR signal started to fade out, and ex vivo IVIS imaging of different organs allowed signal detection at time-points when the signal could not be detected by in vivo imag- ing, and confirmed that the highest photon emission was in the liver （P 〈 0.0001）. Detecting Man-in-the-Middle Attack in Fog Computing for Social Media

Fog computing(FC)is a networking paradigm where wireless devices known as fog nodes are placed at the edge of the network(close to the Internet of Things(IoT)devices).Fog nodes provide services in lieu of the ***,improving the performance of the network and making it attractive to social media-based *** issues are one of the most challenges encountered in *** this paper,we propose an anomalybased Intrusion Detection and Prevention System(IDPS)against Man-in-theMiddle(MITM)attack in the fog *** system uses special nodes known as Intrusion Detection System(IDS)nodes to detect intrusion in the *** periodically monitor the behavior of the fog nodes in the *** deviation from normal network activity is categorized as malicious,and the suspected node is *** Moving Average(EWMA)is added to the system to smooth out the noise that is typically found in social media *** results(with 95%confidence)show that the accuracy of the proposed system increases from 80%to 95%after EWMA is ***,with EWMA,the proposed system can detect the intrusion from 0.25–0.5 s seconds faster than that without ***,it affects the latency of services provided by the fog nodes by at least 0.75–1.3 ***,EWMA has not increased the energy overhead of the system,due to its lightweight.

Spatial prediction and modeling of soil salinity using simple cokriging, artificial neural networks, and support vector machines in El Outaya plain, Biskra, southeastern Algeria

Soil salinization is one of the most predominant environmental hazards responsible for agricultural land degradation,especially in the arid and semi-arid *** accurate spatial prediction and modeling of soil salinity in agricultural land are so important for farmers and decision-makers to develop the appropriate mechanisms to prevent the loss of fertile soil and increase crop *** Outaya plain is marked by soil salinity increases due to the excessive use of poor groundwater quality for *** study aims to compare the performance of simple kriging,cokriging(SCOK),multilayer perceptron neural networks(MLP-NN),and support vector machines(SVM)in the prediction of topsoil and subsoil *** field covariates including geochemical properties of irrigation groundwater and physical properties of soil and environmental covariates including digital elevation model and remote sensing derivatives were used as input candidates to SCOK,MLP-NN,and *** optimal input combination was determined using multiple linear stepwise regression(MLSR).The results revealed that the SCOK using field covariates including water electrical conductivity(ECw)and sand percentage(sand%),and environmental covariates including land surface temperature(LST),topographic wetness index(TWI),and elevation could significantly increase the accuracy of soil salinity spatial *** comparison of the prediction accuracy of the different modeling techniques using the Taylor diagram indicated that MLP-NN using LST,TWI,and elevation as inputs were more accurate in predicting the topsoil salinity[ECs(TS)]with a mean absolute error(MAE)of 0.43,root mean square error(RMSE)of 0.6 and correlation coefficient of ***-NN using ECw and sand%as inputs were more accurate in predicting the subsoil salinity[ECs(SS)]with MAE of 0.38,RMSE of0.6,and R of 0.968.
