The purpose of this paper is to compare the performance of two spectrometers that are manufactured from the same company. In this work, heavy metals like lead Pb and copper Cu in the KBr matrix were analyzed using the laser induced breakdown spectroscopic technique. A Q-switched Nd：YAG laser with 90mJ per pulse operating at the fundamental wavelength of 1064nm and pulse duration of 10 ns was used to generate plasma at the focal region. The important experimental parameters such as the laser energy, integration time, distance between the lens and sample, distance and angle of the optical fiber from the target were optimized. Two spectrometers manufactured by Ocean Optics namely as Maya2000Pro and USB 4000 were employed for anlyzing the spectral lines. The experimental setup and conditions were remained the same for both experiments. The production of spectral lines from each of the interested elements was analyzed and compared with the NIST （National Institute of Standards and Technology） database. The sensitivity, repeatability and limit of detection for each of the systems are discussed in detail.

Background: The prevalence of restless legs syndrome (RLS) is approximately 10% in general population. This condition is more prevalent in certain diseases and we previously reported the prevalence of RLS in chronic liver disease population to be 62%. Objectives: Our aim was to assess the self-reported prevalence of RLS using an RLS symptom specific questionnaire in liver transplant patients. Methods: Subjects were a convenience sample in transplant clinic. They completed a validated survey for core RLS symptoms and if positive went on to completed a telephone survey using the validated International RLS Severity Scale Questionnaire (IRLS) and the Johns Hopkins RLS QoL survey to measure the effect of RLS symptoms on daily activities. Results: 40 patients surveyed, RLS was found in 16 subjects (40%) with moderate severity {17 (SD + 7.2, high score 31)}. Hepatitis C as indication for liver transplant was more likely associated with RLS (p = 0.05). Calcium channel blockers were protective (p = 0.032) while antidopaminergic agent use was statistically significant for RLS symptom (p = 0.005). On multiple linear regression analysis, diabetes (p = 0.024) and use of antidepressants/antihistamines (p = 0.049) were associated with RLS. Quality of Life (QoL) surveys specific to RLS suggested RLS symptoms resulted in significantly diminished QoL, with an average QoL score of 80 (SD + 11.7). Conclusion: There was a very high prevalence of RLS in our liver transplant patients with majority experiencing moderate or severe symptoms. The explanation for this higher prevalence is likely due to combination of comorbidites as well as medications that can trigger RLS.

研究了桩底截面处的行波反射特征,以探讨桩基低应变无损检测中定量判断桩底支撑条件的可能.首先采用黏弹性模型模拟桩底土的作用,基于一维行波理论,分别推导了桩底截面处上行波与下行波之间的位移、速度和应力频率响应函数,并由此分析了特殊桩底条件下的反射特征;利用MATLAB编程并结合频响函数,研究了桩底为一般支撑、下行波速度为半正弦函数条件下,上行波速度时域曲线与桩底土刚度系数、阻尼系数之间的关系;最后采用3种类型的桩底支撑进行模型试验,对理论计算结果进行了验证.结果表明:桩底行波反射特征仅与桩底界面频响函数有关,桩底速度频响函数与位移频响函数相同,与力波频响函数相反;黏弹性桩底支撑条件下,桩底土相对刚度系数和相对阻尼系数共同影响上行波速度曲线的方向、波峰数量和峰值大小;桩底由自由边界过渡到固定边界时,反射波速度与入射波速度之间的关系由完全的同向相等逐渐过渡到完全的反向相等;模型试验的实测速度曲线验证了理论计算结果.研究成果完善了一般支撑条件下桩底反射特征的理论,并提供了一种分离入射波和反射波的理论方法,对桩底条件定量检测的工程应用也具有一定的潜在价值.

AIM： To investigate the prevalence of giardiasis in patients with dyspeptic symptoms. METHODS＂ Clinical records of consecutive patients who attended Gastroenterology Department at Aga Khan University Hospital from January 2000 to June 2003 and had esophagogastroduodenoscopy （EGD） with duodenal biopsies and international classification of diseases 9th revision with clinical modifications （ICD-9-CM） coded with giardiasis were studied. RESULTS： Two hundred and twenty patients fulfilled the above criteria. There were 44% （96/220） patients who were giardiasis positive, 72% （69/96） of them were males and 28% （27196） of them were females. There were 65% （81/124） males and 35% （43/124） females who were giardiasis negative. The mean age of patients with giardiasis was 28±17 years, while that of giardiasis negative patients was 40±18 years （P〈0.001）. In patients with giardiasis, abdominal pain was present in 71% （68/96） of patients （P = 0.02） and diarrhea in 29% （28/96）（P = 0.005）; duodenitis in 25% （24/96） on EGD （P = 0.006） and in 68% （65/96） on histopathology （P = 0.002）. CONCLUSION： Giardiasis occurs significantly in young people with abdominal pain, while endoscopic duodenitis is seen in only 25% of giardiasis positive cases, which supports routine duodenal biopsy.

Scaling-up agroforestry area in various forms is a scientific path towards achieving various sustainable development goals(SDGs),especially improving livelihood,reducing poverty,conserving environment and biodiversity,and transforming climate *** this study,the effort was made to investigate the land potentiality for agroforestry at the district level in Jharkhand State,India by applying geographic information system(GIS)modeling technology using climate(temperature and precipitation),topography(slope and elevation),ecology(percent tree cover and normalized difference vegetation index(NDVI)),and social economics(poverty rate and tribal dominance)*** results revealed that six districts of Jharkhand State had agroforestry potential greater than 60.00%.The highest agroforestry suitability was found in Simdega District(78.20%),followed by Pakur(76.25%),West Singhbhum(72.70%),Dumka(68.84%),Sahibganj(64.63%),and Godda(63.43%)***,we identified 513 out of 32,620 villages of Jharkhand State potentially suitable(agroforestry suitability≥80.00%)for agroforestry with the objective of life improvement among marginalized *** the outside forest area,8.58%of the total geographical land of Jharkhand State was wasteland,much of which was found suitable for agroforestry *** agroforestry setups in those wastelands can absorb 637 t carbon annually in long run and can provide direct economic benefits to the locals besides additional income for carbon emission *** study concluded that Jharkhand State has plenty of high potential land for agroforestry,and adoption of agroforestry at the village level must be given high *** study could guide the nodal authorities to prepare appropriate strategies for scaling the tree cover in agroforestry systems in village-level landscape planning which needs policy attention and investment for achieving 9 out of the 17 SDGs.
