Correlation of work function and stacking fault energy through Kelvin probe force microscopy and nanohardness in diluteα-magnesium

Electronic interactions of the Group 2A elements with magnesium have been studied through the dilute solid solutions in binary Mg-Ca,Mg-Sr and Mg-Ba *** investigation incorporated the difference in the‘Work Function'(ΔWF)measured via Kelvin Probe Force Microscopy(KPFM),as a property directly affected by interatomic bond types,*** electronic structure,nanoindentation measurements,and Stacking Fault Energy values reported in the *** was shown that the nano-hardness of the solid-solutionα-Mg phase changed in the order of Mg-Ca>Mg-Sr>***,it was shown,by also considering the nano-hardness levels,that SFE of a solid-solution is closely correlated with its‘Work Function'***-hardness measurements on the eutectics andΔWF difference between eutectic phases enabled an assessment of the relative bond strength and the pertinent electronic structures of the eutectics in the three *** withΔWF and at least qualitative verification of those computed SFE values with some experimental measurement techniques were considered important as those computational methods are based on zero Kelvin degree,relatively simple atomic models and a number of *** asserted by this investigation,if the results of measurement techniques can be qualitatively correlated with those of the computational methods,it can be possible to evaluate the electronic structures in alloys,starting from binary systems,going to ternary and then multi-elemental *** investigation has shown that such a qualitative correlation is *** all,the SFE values are not treated as absolute values but rather become essential in comparative investigations when assessing the influences of alloying elements at a fundamental level,that is,free electron density *** study indicated that the principles of‘electronic metallurgy'in developing multi-elemental alloy systems can be followed via practical experimental methods,i.e.ΔWF measurements using KPF

The main aims of the current study are to determine the morphological features of the periglacial landforms(non-sorted step,mud circle,stony earth circle,thufur,and congeliturbation)located on the Ilgaz Mountains,examine the physicochemical and mineralogical properties with pedological processes of the soils,and assess of the effects of climatic conditions controlling the development of *** Ilgaz Mountains(2587 m a.s.l.),located in the Western Black Sea Region,within the Anatolian Mountains,are important in terms of periglacial landforms(mud circles,stony earth circles,thufurs,non-sorted steps,non-sorted stripes,congeliturbation deposits,and block currents).The descriptive statistics of 123 periglacial landforms measured by fieldworks were *** distribution of freezing and thawing in the Ilgaz Mountains throughout the year was evaluated,and it was found that freezing takes place between December and March,freezing-thawing takes place in April,May,October and november,and thawing takes place between June and *** to soil properties,organic matter content changes from 1.88%to 12.72%in non-sorted step soils,while it is between 2.03%and 12.24%in stony earth circle *** organic matter is observed to be close to congeliturbation deposits at lower ratios compared to non-sorted steps,stony earth circles and mud *** soil reactions on stony earth circles and non-sorted steps vary between slightly acidic and slightly *** the other hand,soil samples taken from the mud circles are different from those taken from the non-sorted steps and stony earth *** soil reaction is acidic,and pH changes between 4.86 and *** lime content also varies between 2.81%and 32.08%,with an average of 12.02%.The texture properties of soils are dominantly loam and clay loam,as in the non-sorted steps,stony earth circles,and mud *** their mineralogical properties,the XRD study was carried out to determine the primer mineral

White matter hyperintensity progression is associated with incident probable dementia or mild cognitive impairment

Background White matter hyperintensity(WMH)on brain MRI is associated with developing dementia or mild cognitive impairment(MCI),but WMH progression over time has not been fully investigated as an independent risk *** We performed a post hoc analysis of the Systolic Blood Pressure Intervention Trial-Memory and Cognition in Decreased Hypertension(SPRInT MInD)*** primary outcome was incident probable dementia or MCI(dementia/MCI)before the follow-up MRI at 48 months from *** primary predictor was WMH progression,defined as the Z score difference between the follow-up and baseline WMH *** secondary predictor was a binary WMH progression threshold(≥1.4 mL vsng the 433 included patients,33(7.6%)developed dementia/*** were 156(36.0%)patients who met the WMH progression threshold of≥1.4 mL,in whom the rate of dementia/MCI was 12.8%(20/156)vs 4.7%(13/277)of patients withn(p=0.002).In multivariable logistic regression,the Z score of WMH progression was associated with dementia/MCI(OR 1.51,95%CI 1.12 to 2.04,p=0.007)as was the WMH progression threshold of≥1.4 mL(OR 2.89,95%CI 1.23 to 6.81,p=0.015).Conclusions In this post hoc analysis of SPRInT MInD,WMH progression over 48 months was associated with the development of probable dementia or MCI.

Evolution of Microstructure, Residual Stress, and Tensile Properties of Mg–Zn–Y–La–Zr Magnesium Alloy Processed by Extrusion

The microstructure, texture, residual stress, and tensile properties of Mg–6 Zn–2 Y–1 La–0.5 Zr(wt%) magnesium alloy were investigated before and after extrusion process, which performed at 300 °C and 400 °C. The microstructural characterizations indicated that the as-cast alloy was comprised of α-Mg, Mg–Zn, Mg–Zn–La, and Mg–Zn–Y phases. During homogenization at 400 °C for 24 h, most of the secondary phases exhibited partial dissolution. Extrusion process led to a remarkable grain refi nement due to dynamic recrystallization(DRX). The degree of DRX and the DRXed grain size increased with increasing extrusion temperature. The homogenized alloy did not show a preferential crystallographic orientation, whereas the extruded alloys showed strong basal texture. The extrusion process led to a signifi cant improvement on the compressive residual stress and mechanical properties. The alloy extruded at 300 °C exhibited the highest basal texture intensity, the compressive residual stress and hardness, and yield and tensile strengths among the studied alloys.

Unveiling the reaction products in heat treated Si3n4–Ti joined ceramics by transmission electron microscopy

Joining is a crucial process for the production of complex-shaped advanced engineering *** understanding of ceramic–metal interfaces during joining or following heat-treatment steps is therefore of important concern in designing the new *** discharge joining(CDJ)method was firstly carried out to compose the ceramic–metal joint material by silicon nitride(Si3n4)–titanium(Ti)***,heat treatment was performed on the Si3n4-Ti joints in air atmosphere at 1000℃temperature to reveal the interface reactions and *** layer that occurred between the Si3n4 and Ti interfaces and new phase formations were examined by transmission electron microscopy(TEM)-based various imaging and chemical analysis *** transparent samples for TEM characterization were prepared by focused ion beam(FIB)milling and lifting *** on the detailed TEM results,Si and n diffusion arising from the Si3n4 ceramic was observed towards Ti metal foil side and further interacted with Ti *** upshot of current diffusion was that Ti3n2 reaction layer with 50 nm thickness was formed at the interface while titanium silicon nitride(Ti6Si3n)matrix phase including dendritic-shaped Ti2 n grains occurred in the Ti *** is believed that our TEM-based microscopy results not only provide the knowledge on ceramic–metal joint materials by CDJ method,but also contribute new insights on the development of various new joint systems.

Effects of tyrosine kinase inhibitor E7080 and enOS inhibitor L-nIO on colorectal cancer alone and in combination

Objective：To investigate the effects of E7080 and n5-（1-iminoethyl）-L-ornithine dihydrochloride （L-nIO）on colorectal cancer alone and in ***：HT29 colorectal cancer cell line from Sap Institute was ***-time cell analysis （xCELLigence system） was performed to determine the effects of E7080 and L-nIO on colorectal cell *** apoptosis was determined with Annexin V staining,and the effect of agents on angiogenesis was determined with chorioallantoic membrane （CAM） ***：We found that E7080 has a strong antiproliferative effect with an half maximum inhibition of concentration （IC50） value of 5.60×10-8 mol/*** it has been observed that E7080 showed antiangiogenic and apoptotic effects on HT29 colorectal cancer *** scores of E7080 were 1.2,t.0 and 0.6 for 100,10 and 1 nmol/L E7080 concentrations,***,apoptosis has been detected in 71％ of HT29 colorectal cancer cells after administration of 100 nmol/L E7080 which may indicate strong apoptotic *** administration of L-nIO alone did not show any effect,but the combination of E7080 with L-nIO increased the antiproliferative,antiangiogenic and apoptotic effects of ***：Results of this study indicate that E7080 may be a good choice in treatment of colorectal *** the increased effects of E7080 when combined with L-nIO raise the possibility to use a lower dose of E7080 and therefore avoid/minimize the side effects observed with E7080.

Wear tests are essential in the design of parts intended to work in environments that subject a part to high *** tests involve high cost and lengthy experiments,and require special test *** use of machine learning algorithms for wear loss quantity predictions is a potentially effective means to eliminate the disadvantages of experimental methods such as cost,labor,and *** this study,wear loss data of AISI 1020 steel coated by using a plasma transfer arc welding(PTAW)method with FeCrC,FeW,and FeB powders mixed in different ratios were obtained experimentally by some of the researchers in our *** mechanical properties of the coating layers were detected by microhardness measurements and dry sliding wear *** wear tests were performed at three different loads(19.62,39.24,and 58.86 n)over a sliding distance of 900 *** this study,models have been developed by using four different machine learning algorithms(an artificial neural network(Ann),extreme learning machine(ELM),kernel-based extreme learning machine(KELM),and weighted extreme learning machine(WELM))on the data set obtained from the wear test *** R2 value was calculated as 0.9729 in the model designed with WELM,which obtained the best performance among the models evaluated.

On the profile of frequency dependent interface states and series resistance in Au/p-InP SBDs prepared with photolithography technique

The frequency dependent of the forward and reverse bias capacitance-voltage （C-V） and conductance-voltage （G/w-V） charac- teristics of Au/p-InP SBDs have been investigated in the frequency range of 20 kHz-10 MHz and voltage range of-5 - 5 V at room temperature. The effects of surface states （nss） and series resistance （R0 on C-V and G/w-V characteristics have been in- vestigated in detail. The frequency dependent nss and Rs profiles were obtained for various applied bias voltages. The experi- mental results show that the main electrical parameters of Au/p-InP SBD such as barrier height （gOB）, the density of acceptor concentration （nA）, nss and Rs were found strongly frequency and voltage dependent. The values of C and G/w decrease with increasing frequency due to a continuous distribution of nss localized at the metal/semiconductor （M/S） interface. The effect of Rs on C and G is found considerably high especially at high frequencies. Therefore, the high frequencies of the values of C and G were corrected for the effect of Rs in the whole measured bias range to obtain the real diode capacitance Cc and conductance Gc using the nicollian and Goetzberger technique. The distribution profile of Rs-V gives a peak depending on the frequency especially at low frequencies and disappears with increasing frequencies due to the existence of nss at the M/S interface.

The C–V and G/ω–V Electrical Characteristics of ^(60)Co γ-Ray Irradiated Al/Si_(3)n_(4)/p-Si (MIS) Structures

The influence of ^(60)Co(γ-ray)irradiation on the electrical characteristics of Al/Si_(3)n_(4)/p-Si(MIS)structures is investigated using capacitance-voltage(C–V)and conductance-voltage(G/ω–V)*** MIS structures are exposed to a ^(60)Coγradiation source at a dose of 0.7 kGy/h,with a total dose range of 0–100 *** C–V and G/ω–V properties are measured before and after ^(60)Coγ-ray irradiation at 500 kHz and room *** is found that the capacitance and conductance values decrease with the increase in the total dose due to the irradiation-induced defects at the *** results also indicate thatγradiation causes an increase in the barrier height ФB,Fermi energy EF and depletion layer width W_(D).The interface state density(n_(ss)),using the Hill–Coleman method and dependent on radiation dose,is determined from the C–V and G/ω–V measurements and decreases with an increase in the radiation *** decrease in the interface states can be attributed to the decrease in the recombination centers and the passivation of the Si surface due to the deposition insulator layer(Si_(3)n_(4)).In addition,it is clear that the acceptor concentration nA decreases with increasing radiation *** profile of series resistance Rs for various radiation doses is obtained from forward and reverse-biased C–V and G/ω–V measurements,and its values decrease with increasing radiation dose,while it increases with increasing voltage in the accumulation region.
