All-Perovskite Tandem Solar Cells:A Roadmap to Uniting High Efficiency with High Stability

CONSPECTUS:Organic−inorganic halide perovskite photovoltaics(PVs)only a decade-old fieldhave reached impressive power conversion efficiencies(PCEs)and passed industrial stability requirements(IEC 61215:2016 Damp Heat and Humidity Freeze tests),solidifying their status among candidates for next generation *** the various perovskite PV technologies,all-perovskite tandem solar cells(PTSCs)are frontrunners for *** unite a narrow-bandgap(NBG;Eg≈1.2 eV)perovskite back cell with a wide-bandgap(WBG;Eg≈1.7−1.9 eV)perovskite front *** their nascency,PTSCs have achieved certified PCEs of 24.8%and 24.2%for small-area(0.049 cm^2)and large-area devices(1.041 cm2),*** further advances in materials development,PTSCs are capable of moving beyond the PCE limits of single-junction cells due to reduced thermalization losses and improved utilization of the solar *** contrast,the PCE of single-junction perovskite devices is already approaching its saturation level,which is already very close to the device’s Shockley−Queisser limit for a bandgap of around 1.55 *** tandem architecture,thus,provides the most viable path forward to further exploiting the potential of perovskite solar ***,PTSC technology faces a set of challenges distinct from those in perovskite single-junction devices because(i)NBG perovskitestypically achieved by Pb−Sn alloyingare prone to oxidation(Sn^2+to Sn^4+),which results in a high density of Sn vacancies that degrade the optoelectronic performance of NBG perovskite films,(ii)practically complete photon absorption and charge extraction require thick,NBG perovskite films having long carrier diffusion lengths,and(iii)WBG perovskites with high Br/(I+Br)ratio experience large voltage losses and inferior light stability due to surface trap states and phase *** this Account,we discuss how to manage these considerations and maximize the power output in PTSCs via light *** then rev

Selenium Concentrations in Southeastern Missouri Soils and Its Impact on Livestock Nutrition

Selenium is a trace element in animal nutrition provided through forage. Vegetation should accumulate adequate levels to meet this livestock requirement. This study assessed southeastern Missouri soils for their selenium concentrations. Multiple sites across southeastern Missouri were sampled, from which a total of twenty-six soils were collected. Parent materials ranged from coarse to fine-textured alluvium and terrace deposits, colluvium, loess, limestone residuum and rhyolite residuum from poor to well-drained soils. The mean whole soil selenium contents ranged from less than 0.1 mg Se kg-1 for the Kaintuck pedons to 1.0, 2.2, and 2.4 mg Se kg-1 for the Irondale, Killarney, and Frenchmill pedons. For individual soils, Menfro pedons were deep, well-drained soils developed in loess. Paired Menfro pedons having similar soil morphology and having A-E-BE-Bt-C horizon sequences were selected and the greatest selenium concentrations were in the argillic horizons. Soils having fine textures (clayey) had moderate selenium concentrations, whereas soils having coarse textures (sandy) revealed minimal selenium concentrations. A wide soil selenium concentration variation was shown;however, no toxic selenium levels were measured. Therefore, soil selenium toxicity is not a regional issue. Noting that soil selenium concentrations in medium to fine-textured soils are appropriate for providing selenium to livestock, the need to artificially soil incorporate selenium or add selenium into the livestock ration remains critical for coarse-textured soils.
