Thanks to tremendous advances in sequencing technologies and in particular to whole exome sequencing(WES),many genes have now been linked to severe sperm defects.A precise genetic diagnosis is obtained for a minority of patients and only for the most severe defects like azoospermia or macrozoospermia which is very often due to defects in the aurora kinase C(AURKC)***,we studied a subject with a severe oligozoospermia and a phenotypic diagnosis of *** analysis did not reveal any deleterious *** was then initiated which permitted to identify a homozygous loss of function variant in the zinc finger MYND-type containing 15(ZMYND15)***15 has been described to serve as a switch for haploid gene expression,and mice devoid of ZMYND15 were shown to be sterile due to nonobstructive azoospermia(NOA).In man,ZMYND15 has been associated with NOA and severe *** confirm here that the presence of a bi-allelic ZMYND15 variant induces a severe *** addition,we show that severe oligozoospermia can be associated macrozoospermia,and that a phenotypic misdiagnosis is possible,potentially delaying the genetic *** conclusion,genetic defects in ZMYND15 can induce complete NOA or severe oligozoospermia associated with a very severe *** our experience,severe oligozoospermia is often associated with severe teratozoospermia and can sometimes be misinterpreted as macrozoospermia or *** these instances,specific AURKC or dpy-19 like 2(DPY19L2)diagnosis is usually negative and we recommend the direct use of a pan-genomic techniques such as WES.

The use of stress-induced changes in a crystal of a monolithic solid-state laser by external force as a way for micro-force detection and measurement is described. In fact, the application of an unknown force on the resonator-amplifier crystal of a solid-state laser leads to a measurable change in the frequency of the beat note associated with the orthogonal polarisation components of the oscillating laser mode. Here we report our first measurements of the sensitivity of a photo-elastic force sensor, realised with a monolithic (4 × 4) mm plano-convex cylindrical crystal, and compare them with the results obtained by other authors for different configurations and dimensions of the laser sensor. The reported results are in a good mutual agreement but show notable discrepancies with theoretical predictions, especially for high sensitivities obtained when the dimensions of the laser sensor are small.

The use of cold thermal storage systems in low-temperature industrial applications is considered one of the most promising ways of improving energy efficiency and reducing the use of power during peak *** this study,the thermal performance of a shell-and-tube cold storage system under realistic operating conditions is investigated *** proposed model is developed based on energy balances and then validated using existing experimental data from the ***/water is used as the heat transfer fluid(HTF)and the phase transition phenomena in the phase change material(PCM)is simulated using the enthalpy-porosity *** influence of several design and operating parameters,including the HTF mass flow rate,HTF temperature,PCM type,and volume,on the cold storage performance during the crystallization process is presented and *** numerical results show that increasing the HTF mass flow rate accelerates the PCM crystallization ***,the delivery periods of constant thermal power and constant HTF outlet temperature are *** HTF inlet temperature has a significant effect on the cold storage performance,and the complete charging period is reduced by approximately 37%when the HTF inlet temperature is reduced from−4°C to−7°*** the number of tubes in the cold storage unit is concluded to significantly improve the thermal performance of the system,and using water/ice as a cold storage medium is more suitable than using the commercial PCMs RT2-HC and ***,the proposed numerical model for cold storage systems can be successfully used to design and simulate their realistic operation under different conditions.

For joining high Cr,Ni and Mo austenitic stainless steel(AISI 316)by direct drive friction welding(DDFW),with friction weld-ing conditions:rotation speed of 3000 r/min,friction time of 10 s,friction pressure of 130 MPa,forge time of 5 s and forge pressure of 260 *** results of microstructure showed that the temperature at the interface reached 819℃while forge applied between 357-237℃,which subdivided welded joint into four distinct regions of highly plastically deformed zone(HPDZ),thermo-mechanically affected zone(TMAZ),heat affected zone(HAZ)and the base metal,with grain size about 10µm,100µm,90µm and 30µm *** re-gions were created due to dynamic recrystallization(DRX)at the interface and thermo-mechanical deformation with heat diffusion in the neighboring ***,high level of microhardness about 300 HV0.1 and hardness roughly 240 Hv10 at the interface due to HPDZ creation while low level of 240 HV0.1 for microhardness and moderately of 205 HV10 for hardness in neighboring regions.

A membrane process for metal recovery from aqueous solutions was studied. Metal ions diffused from the feed compartment to the stripping compartment through an hybrid Donnan dialysis which consists to combine two ion exchange membranes with solvent impregnated resin (SIR). The aim of this work is to study the recovery of Pb(II), Ag(I) and Cu(II) from nitrate solutions by using SIR combined with classical Donnan dialysis. The resin has been prepared by impregnating the Amberlite XAD-4 using three different extractants namely: di-2-ethyl hexyl phosphine acide (D2EHPA), tris-octyl phosphine oxide (TOPO) and Diphenylthiourea (DPT). Experiments were performed as a function of nature of the extractant impregnated on the XAD-4 resin as well as the concentration in the resin phase, the stripping pH, the concentration ratio of metal ions in the feed compartment and the nature of the counter ions in strip compartment. The results show that the D2EHPA is the better extractant for the metal ions used in this work, and it’s shown a good selectivity for the separation between ions.

The South-Western Alboran Earthquake Sequence of January-March 2016 and Its Associated Coulomb Stress Changes

We expose the results of the study of the south-western Alboran seismic sequence of January-March 2016 and the stress perturbations it caused by means of Coulomb modeling. The use of data from numerous stations allowed us to relocate the largest events (Mw ≥ 3.8) south of those determined by IGN (Spain). The main shock of 25 January 2016 (Mw = 6.3) was relocated at 35.6133°N × 3.6888°W, at a hypocentral depth of 15.5 ± 6.0 km. The epicenters are aligned along two distinct clusters: The first runs N-S towards the Moroccan coast along Al-Idrissi fracture zone, while the second is centered on the Alboran ridge northern thrust fault. The focal mechanisms determined by different agencies correspond to a strike-slip/normal/reverse motion in the western cluster and thrusting in the eastern one. Coulomb stress change modeling shows that the main earthquake: (1) may have been triggered by stress accumulation by the 1994 and 2004 earthquakes;(2) has induced stress perturbations that provide a suitable explanation for the distribution of the aftershock clusters, including the eastern cluster. The prediction of the next event shows that it is likely to occur near the Moroccan coast.

Water is one of the most important substances on earth. Safe drinking water is essential to humans and other life forms. All plants and animals must have water to survive. If there was no water, there would be no life on earth. Apart from drinking it to survive, people have many other uses for water. This natural resource is becoming scarcer and its demand exceeds supply in some region rendering its availability a major social and economic concern. Apart of this scarcity is water pollution which is increasing day by day in many parts of the world. Sources of fresh water on land are getting more and more polluted than ever before. As a result, contaminated water became unsuitable for use. Poor water quality is deadly since contaminated water causes hazards to public health through poisoning or the spread of disease. In order to address these issues, the practice of water remediation has been developed.

The objective of the first part of the investigation was to use Aspen Plus software and the Redlich-Kwong-Soave equation of state in order to simulate an adiabatic methanation reactor for the production of synthetic natural methane (SNG) using 1 kg/hr of carbon dioxide. In this paper, we define the Synthetic Natural Gas Combined Cycle (SNGCC) as a combined cycle power plant where the fuel is synthetic natural gas (SNG) produced by a methanation reactor. The feed of the methanation reactor is the recycled stream of carbon dioxide of a CO2 capture unit treating the flue gas of the SNGCC power plant. The objective of the second part of the investigation is the utilization of Aspen plus software with SRK equation of state for the simulation of the SNGCC power plant. The metallurgical limitation of the gas turbine was fixed at 1300°C in this investigation. For effective absorption by amine solutions, the molar percentage of CO2 in the flue gas should be higher than 10%. Moreover, in order to reduce technical problems linked to oxidative degradation of amine in the CO2 capture plant, the percentage of O2 in the flue gas should also be lower than 5%. To reach this goal, the primary air for combustion has 10% excess air (compared to stoichiometric air) and 37% of the flue gas leaving the SNGCC is recirculated as the secondary air for cooling the turbine.

Objective: To test the coalescence effect of two chemotherapy drugs at low effective dose(cisplatin and taxotere) combined with pomegranate juice on A549 cancer cells. Methods: Infrared spectroscopy method is a qualitative test that was performed to ensure the existence of the phytochemicals providing the antioxidant activity through the presence of the hydroxyl group(-OH). The viability of A549 cell line and normal MCs was tested using the neutral red uptake, Clonogenic survival, XTT and Cell migration assays. Results: Our results showed that this combination firstly led to a greater decrease in the viability of cells comparing to those treated with chemotherapy drugs alone, and secondly led to a significant reduction in cell migration. Conclusions: These data suggest a synergistic effect between the pomegranate and cisplatin which makes probably this combination a powerful option for treating lung adenocarcinoma and in parallel minimizing the systemic side effects.
