Mortality in relation to changes in physical activity in middle-aged to older Chinese:An 8-year follow-up of the Guangzhou Biobank Cohort Study

Background:Physical activity(PA)is generally *** from developed countries in the West have shown that maintenance of adequate PA or increasing PA are associated with lower mortality *** is unclear whether these associations apply to an older Chinese ***,we examined the changes in PA prospectively among a middle-aged and older Chinese population over an average of 4 years and explored their subsequent mortality ***:Metabolic equivalent scores of PA among participants in the Guangzhou Biobank Cohort Study were *** were divided into 3 groups related to PA level,and changes in PA were classified into 9 *** on vital status and causes of death from March 2008 to December 2012(the first repeated examination)until December 31,2017,was obtained via record linkage with the Death ***:Of 18,104 participants aged 61.21±6.85 years(mean±SD),1461 deaths occurred within 141,417 *** to participants who maintained moderate PA,those who decreased PA from moderate or high levels to a low level had increased risks for all-cause mortality(hazard ratio(HR)=1.47,95%confidence interval(95%CI):1.11-1.96).Participants who maintained a high level of PA(HR=0.83,95%CI:0.70-0.98)or increased PA from low to high levels(HR=0.71,95%CI:0.52-0.97)showed lower all-cause mortality *** who maintained low PA levels showed a higher all-cause mortality risk,whereas those who increased their PA levels showed a non-significantly lower *** results were found for cardiovascular disease ***:Even at an older age,maintaining a high PA level or increasing PA from low to high levels results in lower mortality risks,suggesting that substantial health benefits might be achieved by maintaining or increasing engagement in adequate levels of *** increased risk of maintaining a low PA level or decreasing PA to a low level warrants the attention of public health officials and clinic

Alcohol on drinking experience and attitudes towards sexual behaviors among female students in a Guangzhou technical secondary school

Objectives: To study the prevalence of alcohol drinking experience and attitudes towards sex behaviors among female students in a technical secondary school in Guangzhou, China. Methods: Cluster random sampling and a self-administered questionnaire survey. Results: 653 female students aged more than 18 years in a technical secondary school were surveyed. 112 (17.2%) of them had not drunk alcohol. From the group with no alcohol experience to those who drank low level alcoholic drinks, and high level alcoholic drinks, or had got drunk (3 groups), there was an increasing trend of agreeing to love (33.9%, 56.9% and 63.3% respectively,

Event-triggered sliding mode control of linear repetitive processes and its application in metal rolling process

This paper investigates the design problem of a sliding mode controller for linear repetitive processes(LRPs) with a finite pass length on each pass. Under limited communication resources, an eventtriggered mechanism is implemented from the sensors to the controller, whose triggered sequence is consistent with the evolution direction of LRPs. To periodically orchestrate communication between the controller and actuator, a round-robin scheduling mechanism is established based on the pass length. A sliding function involving the state and pass profile is constructed, and the sliding mode controller is designed using triggered states and pass profile signals. Feasible controller gains are attained to ensure the stability of the resultant closed-loop system. Finally, the proposed strategy is implemented for a multi-roll metal rolling process.

Analysis of the inflection points of height-diameter models

The inflection point is an important feature of sigmoidal height-diameter(H-D)*** is often cited as one of the properties favoring sigmoidal model ***,there are very few studies analyzing the inflection points of H-D *** goals of this study were to theoretically and empirically examine the behaviors of inflection points of six common H-D models with a regional *** six models were the Wykoff(WYK),Schumacher(SCH),Curtis(CUR),HossfeldⅣ(HOS),von Bertalanffy-Richards(VBR),and Gompertz(GPZ)*** models were first fitted in their base forms with tree species as random effects and were then expanded to include functional traits and spatial *** distributions of the estimated inflection points were similar between the two-parameter models WYK,SCH,and CUR,but were different between the threeparameter models HOS,VBR,and *** produced some of the largest inflection *** and VBR produced concave H-D curves without inflection points for 12.7%and 39.7%of the tree *** species or decreasing shade tolerance resulted in larger inflection *** trends in the estimated inflection points of HOS and VBR were entirely opposite across the ***,HOS could produce concave H-D curves for portions of the *** on the studied behaviors,the choice between two-parameter models may not *** recommend comparing seve ral three-parameter model forms for consistency in estimated inflection points before deciding on *** sigmoidal models to have inflection points does not necessarily mean that they will produce fitted curves with *** study highlights the need to integrate analysis of inflection points into modeling H-D relationships.

number of different cancer chemotherapy agents such as cisplatin,oxaliplatin,and paclitaxel can lead to nerve damage,thereby giving rise to neuropathic pain states that present with mechanical and cold allodynia[1].Although these pain conditions often resolve after completion of the chemotherapy,a significant portion of patients exhibit longlasting pain that can persist longer than 12 months with a negative impact on the quality of life of affected individuals[1].

We consider a one-dimensional reaction-diffusion equation describing single-and two-species population dynamics in an advective environment,based on the modeling frameworks proposed by Lutscher et *** *** analyze the effect of rate of loss of individuals at both the upstream and downstream *** the single-species case,we prove the existence of the critical domain size and provide explicit formulas in terms of model *** further derive qualitative properties of the critical domain size and show that,in some cases,the critical domain size is either strictly decreasing over all diffusion rates,or monotonically increasing after first decreasing to a *** also consider competition between species differing only in their diffusion *** two species having large diffusion rates,we give a sufficient condition to determine whether the faster or slower diffuser wins the *** also briefly discuss applications of these results to competition in species whose spatial niche is affected by shifting isotherms caused by climate change.
