Superelastic metastable Ti-Mo-Sn alloys with high elastic admissible strain for potential bio-implant applications

The demand for titanium alloys simultaneously having high elastic admissible strain and large recovery strain for bio-implant applications is ***-free Ti-based shape memory alloys are promising candidates for obtaining the required multifunctional *** this study,a wide content range of(0-15)wt%of low-cost,toxicity-free,and high-biocompatible Sn element was added to the Ti-8Mo(wt%)alloy to study its effect on the superelastic recovery and mechanical properties of biomedical Ti-Mo-Sn *** tailoring Sn content,desired multifunctional properties of high elastic admissible strain and room temperature superelasticity were achieved in the studied Ti-Mo-Sn *** was found that the increase in Sn content stabilized theβphase and a singleβphase was obtained at room temperature in Ti-8Mo-(13,15)Sn *** addition of Sn modified the lattice parameters of theα″martensite andβphase and affected the lattice deformation stain ofβ→α″.The lattice deformation strain along the[011]βdirection was found to be decreased by-0.26%/wt%*** room temperature superelasticity with a recovery strain of 3.1%and an elastic admissible strain of 1%was obtained in the Ti-8Mo-13Sn *** Sn content increased to 15 wt%,a high elastic admissible strain of 1.56%and a recovery strain of 2.0%were *** Ti-Mo-Sn alloys with excellent multifunctional properties are promising candidates for bio-implant applications.

AAV6 as an effective gene delivery vector for prolonged transgene expression in intervertebral disc cells in vivo

Intervertebral disc degeneration is the main contributor to low back pain,now the leading cause of disability *** transfer,either in a therapeutic attempt or in basic research to understand the mechanisms of disc degeneration,is a fascinating and promising tool to manipulate the complex physiology of the *** vectors based on the adeno-associated virus(AAV)have emerged as powerful transgene delivery vehicles yet a systematic investigation into their respective tropism,transduction efficiency,and relative toxicity have not yet been performed in the disc in ***,we used in vivo bioluminescence imaging to systematically compare multiple AAV serotypes,injection volumes,titers,promoters,and luciferase reporters to determine which result in high transduction efficiency of murine nucleus pulposus(NP)cells in *** find that AAV6 using a CAG promoter to drive transgene expression,delivered into the NP of murine caudal discs at a titer of 1011 GC/mL,provides excellent transduction efficiency/kinetics and low toxicity in *** also show,for the first time,that the transduction of NP cells can be significantly boosted in vivo by the use of small cell permeabilization ***,to our knowledge,we are the first to demonstrate the use of optical tissue clearing and three-dimensional lightsheet microscopy in the disc,which was used to visualize fine details of tissue and cell architecture in whole intact discs following AAV6 *** together,these data will contribute to the success of using AAV-mediated gene delivery for basic and translational studies of the IVD.

The extract of Celtis choseniana Nakai alleviates testosterone-in-duced benign prostatic hyperplasia through inhibiting 5αreductase type 2 and the Akt/NF-κB/AR pathway

Benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH)is a chronic male disease characterized by the enlarged *** choseniana Nakai(***)is medicinally used to alleviate pain,gastric disease,and lung *** this study,the effect of *** extract on BPH was investigated using testosterone-induced *** Dawley rats were divided into five groups:control,BPH(testosterone 5 mg·kg^(−1)),Fina(finasteride 2 mg·kg^(−1)),and ***(50 and 100 mg·kg^(−1)).After four weeks of TP treatment with finasteride or ***,prostate weights and DHT levels were *** addition,the prostates were histopathologically examined and measured for protein kinase B(Akt)/nuclear factor-κB(NF-κB)/AR signaling,proliferation,apoptosis,and ***-state weight and epithelial thickness were reduced in the *** groups compared with that in the BPH *** extract of *** acted as a 5αreductase inhibitor,reducing DHT levels in the ***,the extract of *** blocked the activation of p-Akt,nuclear NF-κB activation and reduced the expression of AR and PSA compared with ***,the ex-pression of Bax,PARP-1,and p53 increased,while the expression of bcl-2 *** present study demonstrated that ***-ana extract alleviated testosterone-induced BPH by suppressing 5αreductase and Akt/NF-κB activation,reducing AR signaling and in-ducing apoptosis and autophagy in the *** results suggested that *** probably contain potential herbal agents to alleviate BPH.

Cavity-Suppressing Electrode Integrated with Multi-Quantum Well Emitter:A Universal Approach Toward High-Performance Blue TADF Top Emission OLED

A novel device structure for thermally activated delayed fluorescence(TADF)top emission organic light-emitting diodes(TEOLEDs)that improves the viewing angle characteristics and reduces the efficiency roll-off is ***,we describe the design and fabrication of a cavity-suppressing electrode(CSE),Ag(12 nm)/WO_(3)(65 nm)/Ag(12 nm)that can be used as a transparent *** the TADF-TEOLED fabricated using the CSE exhibits higher external quantum efficiency(EQE)and improved angular dependency than the device fabricated using the microcavity-based Ag electrode,it suffers from low color purity and severe efficiency *** drawbacks can be reduced by using an optimized multi-quantum well emissive layer(MQW EML).The CSE-based TADF-TEOLED with an MQW EML fabricated herein exhibits a high EQE(18.05%),high color purity(full width at half maximum~59 nm),reduced efficiency roll-off(~46%at 1000 cd m^(−2)),and low angular *** improvements can be attributed to the synergistic effect of the CSE and MQW *** optimized transparent CSE improves charge injection and light outcoupling with low angular dependence,and the MQW EML effectively confines charges and excitons,thereby improving the color purity and EQE *** proposed approach facilitates the optimization of multiple output characteristics of TEOLEDs for future display applications.

Complication after nipple-areolar complex tattooing performed by a non-medical person:A case report

BACKGROUND Compared to earlier,there has been an increase in the tattoo procedures for cosmetic purposes;and there has also been an increase in the tattoo procedures performed by non-medical *** South Korea,only tattoos performed by a doctor are considered legal;however,there is still some debate over whether tattoo procedures performed by non-healthcare providers should be considered *** SUMMARY A 28-year-old woman visited our hospital with pain in both nipples and heat sensation over the last 4 *** had a history of a nipple tattoo performed by an unlicensed *** bleeding was noted in both areolar areas,and the exudate mixed with pus and orange color ink was *** medication and tulle with foam dressing were performed under the impression of cellulitis and allergic *** 4 wk,nipples remained dark brown in color,resulting in a color mismatch between the nipple and orange-colored *** size of the areola was also found to be distinctly asymmetrical after *** complication may have been caused by the use of illegal ink or unsanitary procedures,or a problem may have occurred in the post-tattoo management *** Doctors use approved ink,aseptic procedure and appropriate postoperative care,and appropriate management can be performed in case of complications.

Synthesis and characterization of red-emitting Yb/Ho-CaSiO3 upconversion phosphors

Host material plays an important role in obtaining efficient photon upconversion and downshifting ***, fluoride and oxyfluoride glasses-based materials are used for high-efficiency photon ***, the poor thermal stability of fluoride glasses and the toxicity of fluorine ions limit their applications. In this report, Yb/Ho-doped CaSiO3wollastonite phosphors have been demonstrated as efficient red-emitting upconversion phosphors. The phosphors have been synthesized by microwave hydrothermal process followed by heat treatment at 1050°C in the air environment. 2M phase of the β-wollastonite has been confirmed by X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy while the existence of the Yb and Ho dopants in the CaSiO3lattice has been confirmed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The synthesized samples showed strong red upconversion emission centered at 662 nm and near-infrared downshifting emissions at 2016 nm upon 980 nm excitation. The emissions were found to depend significantly on the Ho concentration. Temporal evolution of the main emission bands was investigated to show that the energy transfer upconversion from Yb to Ho ions was responsible for the efficient upconversion and downshifting phenomenon.

Direct messenger ribonucleic acid(mRNA)delivery to target cells or tissues has revolutionized the field of ***,the applicability of regenerative medicine is limited by the technical difficulties of various mRNA-loaded ***,we report a new conductive hybrid film that could guide osteogenic differentiation of human adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells(hADMSCs)via electrically controlled mRNA *** find optimal electrical conductivity and mRNAloading capacity,the polypyrrole-graphene oxide(PPy-GO)hybrid film was electropolymerized on indium tin oxide *** found that the fluorescein sodium salt,a molecule partially mimicking the physical and chemical properties of mRNAs,can be effectively absorbed and released by electrical stimulation(ES).The hADMSCs cultivated on the PPy-GO hybrid film loaded with pre-osteogenic mRNAs showed the highest osteogenic differentiation under electrical *** platform can load various types of RNAs thus highly promising as a new nucleic acid delivery tool for the development of stem cell-based therapeutics.

A new analytical approach for identifying market contagion

Delayed-onset endophthalmitis associated with Achromobacter species developed in acute form several months after cataract surgery:Three case reports

BACKGROUND Achromobacter species-associated endophthalmitis is rare and may present as either acute or chronic postoperative ***-onset Achromobacter species endophthalmitis appearing in acute presentation that develops more than several months after cataract surgery is very *** lens(IOL)removal is commonly recommended to treat Achromobacter species endophthalmitis,which is based on previous ***,we report the results of surgery without IOL removal when treating patients with delayed-onset postoperative Achromobacter species endophthalmitis that developed in an acute *** SUMMARY Three patients visited our ophthalmology clinic due to visual impairment that began 2-3 d *** had undergone cataract surgery 5-18 mo *** visual acuity of the diseased eye was between counting fingers at 30 cm to non-light *** showed conjunctival injection,inflammation in the anterior chamber(cell reaction 4+)and hypopyon *** patients were diagnosed with infectious endophthalmitis and immediately underwent pars plana vitrectomy,anterior chamber irrigation and intravitreal injection of ceftazidime and *** fluid infusion,a vitreous specimen was obtained. In all cases, the IOLs were not removed. Achromobacter species was detected on vitreousspecimen culture. After surgery, the vitreous opacity decreased gradually and there was littleretinal damage. At 1 mo after treatment, the best-corrected visual acuity had improved to 20/50and 20/*** onset postoperative endophthalmitis caused by Achromobacter species can appear in anacute form. All patients responded well to early vitrectomy and administration of empiricalantibiotics including ceftazidime. There was no need for IOL removal during surgery.
