A laboratory sequential anaerobic aerobic bioreactor system, which consisted of an anaerobic fixed film reactor and two aerobic chemostats, was set up to degrade tetrachloroethylene (PCE) without accumulating highly toxic degradation intermediates. A soil enrichment culture, which could reductively dechlorinate 900 μM (ca. 150 mg/L) of PCE stoichiometrically into cis 1,2 dichloroethylene ( cis DCE), was attached to ceramic media in the anaerobic fixed film reactor. A phenol degrading strain, Alcaligenes sp. R5, which can efficiently degrade cis DCE by co metabolic oxidation, was used as inoculum for the aerobic chemostats consisted of a transformation reactor and a growth reactor. The anaerobic fixed film bioreactor showed more than 99 % of PCE transformation into cis DCE in the range of influent PCE concentration from 5 μM to 35 μM at hydraulic retention time of 48h. On the other hand, efficient degradation of the resultant cis DCE by strain R5 in the following aerobic system could not be achieved due to oxygen limitation. however, 54% of the maximum cis DCE degradation was obtained when 10 μmol of hydrogen peroxide (H 2O 2) was supplemented to the transformation reactor as an additional oxygen source. Further studies are needed to achieve more efficient co metabolic degradation of cis DCE in the aerobic reactor.

The fine control of doping levels in graphene materials such as reduced graphene oxide(RGO)is important to properly manipulate their ambipolar transport characteristics for various device ***,conventional doping methods involve complex chemical reactions,large-scale doping processes,and poor ***,a simple and controllable electrochemical doping treatment(EDT),performed via the conductive channels created at the RGO surface by the application of an electric field,is introduced to tailor the electrical properties of RGO films.X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and Raman spectroscopy measurements are performed to detect the presence of Ni atoms in RGO films after the EDT(EDT-RGO).Then,EDT-RGO field-effect transistors(FETs)are fabricated with different doping areas(0 to 100%fractional area)on the RGO active channel to investigate the effect and selective-area doping capability of the *** to p-type doping compensation by the intercalated Ni atoms,the electron mobility of the EDT-RGO FET decreases from 1.40 to 0.12 cm2 V-1s-1 compared with that of the undoped RGO-FET,leading to the conversion from ambipolar to unipolar p-type transfer characteristics.

Ultrathin film-based transparent conductive oxides(TCOs)with a broad work function(WF)tunability are highly demanded for e cient energy conversion ***,reducing the film thickness below 50 nm is limited due to rapidly increasing resistance;furthermore,introducing dopants into TCOs such as indium tin oxide(ITO)to reduce the resistance decreases the transparency due to a trade-o between the two ***,we demonstrate dopant-tunable ultrathin(≤50 nm)TCOs fabricated via electric field-driven metal implantation(m-TCOs;m=Ni,Ag,and Cu)without com-promising their innate electrical and optical *** m-TCOs exhibit a broad WF variation(0.97 eV),high transmittance in the UV to visible range(89–93%at 365 nm),and low sheet resistance(30–60Ωcm-2).Experimental and theoretical analyses show that interstitial metal atoms mainly a ect the change in the WF without substantial losses in optical *** m-ITOs are employed as anode or cathode electrodes for organic light-emitting diodes(LEDs),inorganic UV LEDs,and organic photovoltaics for their universal use,leading to outstanding performances,even without hole injection layer for OLED through the WF-tailored *** results verify the proposed m-TCOs enable e ective carrier transport and light extraction beyond the limits of traditional TCOs.

Zircon U–Pb and Hf isotope data integrated in this study for magmatic and metamorphic rocks fromthe Hida Belt,southwest Japan,lead to a new understanding of the evolution of the Cordilleran arc system along the ancestral margins of present-day Northeast *** microprobe data for magmatic zircon domains from eight mafic tointermediate orthogneisses in the Tateyama and Tsunogawa areas yielded weighted mean 206Pb/238U ages spanning the entire Permian period(302–254 Ma).Under cathodoluminescence,primary magmatic growth zones in the zircon crystals were observed to be partially or completely replaced by inward-penetrating,irregularly curved featureless or weakly zoned secondary domains that mostly yielded U–Pb ages of 250–240 Ma and relatively high Th/U ratios(>0.2).These secondary domains are considered to have been formed by solid-state recrystallization during thermal overprints associated with intrusions of Hida *** whole-rock geochemical and Sr–Nd isotope data as well as zircon age spectra corroborate that the Hida Belt comprises the Paleozoic–Mesozoic Cordilleran arc system built upon the margin of the North China Craton,together with the YeongnamMassif in southern *** arcmagmatismalong this systemwas commenced in the Carboniferous and culminated in the Permian–Triassic transition *** positiveεHf(t)values(>+12)of late Carboniferous to early Permian detrital zircons in the Hida paragneisses indicate that there was significant input from the depleted asthenospheric mantle and/or its crustal derivatives in the early stage of arc *** the other hand,near-chondriticεHf(t)values(+5 to−2)of magmatic zircons from late Permian Hida orthogneisses suggest a lithospheric mantle *** isotopic differences between magmatic zircon cores and the secondary rims observed in some orthogneiss samples clearly indicate that the zircons were chemically open to fluids or melts during thermal *** highly positive zirconεHf(t)val

Multiple comparisons among genomes can clarify their evolution, speciation, and functional innova- tions. To date, the genome sequences of eight grasses representing the most economically important Poaceae （grass） clades have been published, and their genomic-level comparison is an essential foundation for evolutionary, functional, and translational research. Using a formal and conservative approach, we aligned these genomes. Direct comparison of paralogous gene pairs all duplicated simultaneously reveal striking variation in evolutionary rates among whole genomes, with nucleotide substitution slowest in rice and up to 48% faster in other grasses, adding a new dimension to the value of rice as a grass model. We reconstructed ancestral genome contents for major evolutionary nodes, potentially contributing to understanding the divergence and speciation of grasses. Recent fossil evidence suggests revisions of the estimated dates of key evolutionary events, implying that the pan-grass polyploidization occurred ~96 million years ago and could not be related to the Creta- ceous-Tertiary mass extinction as previously inferred. Adjusted dating to reflect both updated fossil evidence and lineage-specific evolutionary rates suggested that maize subgenome divergence and maize-sorghum divergence were virtually simultaneous, a coincidence that would be explained if poly- ploidization directly contributed to speciation. This work lays a solid foundation for Poaceae transla- tional genomics.

A cobalt-silica hybrid nanocatalyst bearing small cobalt particles of diameter -5 nm was prepared through a hydrothermal reaction and hydrogen reduction. The resulting material showed very high CO conversion （〉82%） and high hydrocarbon productivity （-1.0gHC·gcat^-1·h^-1 ） with high activity （-8.5 × 10^-5 ***^-1.s-1） in the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis reaction.

Melatonin ameliorates tau-related pathology via the miR-504-3p and CDK5 axis in Alzheimer’s disease

Background:Intracellular accumulation of the microtubule-associated protein tau and its hyperphosphorylated forms is a key neuropathological feature of Alzheimer’s disease(AD).Melatonin has been shown to prevent tau hyperphosphorylation in cellular and animal ***,the molecular mechanisms by which melatonin attenuates tau hyperphosphorylation and tau-related pathologies are not fully ***:Immunofluorescence,immunoblotting analysis and thioflavin-S staining were employed to examine the effects of early and late treatment of melatonin on tau-related pathology in hTau mice,in which nonmutated human tau is overexpressed on a mouse tau knockout ***-throughput microRNA(miRNA)sequencing,quantitative RT-PCR,luciferase reporter assay and immunoblotting analysis were performed to determine the molecular ***:We found that both early and late treatment of melatonin efficiently decreased the phosphorylation of soluble and insoluble tau at sites related to ***,melatonin significantly reduced the number of neurofibrillary tangles(NFTs)and attenuated neuronal loss in the cortex and ***,using miRNA microarray analysis,we found that miR-504-3p expression was upregulated by melatonin in the hTau *** administration of miR-504-3p mimics dramatically decreased tau phosphorylation by targeting p39,an activator of the well-known tau kinase cyclin-dependent kinase 5(CDK5).Compared with miR-504-3p mimics alone,co-treatment with miR-504-3p mimics and p39 failed to reduce tau ***:Our results suggest for the first time that melatonin alleviates tau-related pathologies through upregulation of miR-504-3p expression by targeting the p39/CDK5 axis and provide novel insights into AD treatment strategies.

Aqueous Zn-ion batteries （AZIBs） have received considerable attention owing to their various advantages such as safety,low cost,simple battery assembly conditions,and high ionic ***,they still suffer from serious problems,including uncontrollable dendrite growth,corrosion,hydrogen evolution reaction （HER） from water decomposition,electrode passivation,and unexpected *** creation of a uniform artificial nanocrystal layer on the Zn anode surface is a promising strategy for resolving these ***,we propose the use of a perovskite CaTiO3（CTO） protective layer on Zn（CTO@Zn） as a promising approach for improving the performance of *** CTO artificial layer provides an efficient pathway for Zn ion diffusion towards the Zn metal because of the high dielectric constant （εr=180） and ferroelectric characteristics that enable the alignment of dipole moments and redistribute the Zn2+ions in the CTO *** avoiding the direct contact of the Zn anode with the electrolyte solution,the uneven dendrite growth,corrosion,parasitic side reactions,and HER are mitigated,while CTO retains its mechanical and chemical robustness during ***,CTO@Zn demonstrates an improved lifespan in a symmetric cell configuration compared with bare ***@Zn shows steady overpotential （～68 m V） for 1500 h at 1 mA cm-2/0.5 mA h cm-2,excelling bare ***,when paired with the V2O5-C cathode,the CTO@Zn//V2O5-C full battery delivers 148.4 mA h g-1（based on the mass of the cathode） after 300 *** study provides new insights into Zn metal anodes and the development of high-performance AZIBs.

Background: Postoperative pancreatic fistula(POPF) is more likely to occur in a soft pancreas compared to a hard pancreas in which fibrosis has progressed. There is almost no leakage at the anastomosis site or cut surface of a hard pancreas. The aim of this study was to induce localized fibrosis at the cut surface of the pancreas in a rat ***: Thirty-six rats were divided into three groups(group S: normal saline group; group E: ethanol group; and group O: octreotide group). Each rat was directly injected with a particular compound at the duodenal lobe of the pancreatic parenchyma. Each group was divided into three subgroups according to the time of post-injection sacrifice(1, 2, or 4 weeks). The hardness, suture holding capacity(SHC), and histological fibrosis grade of each pancreas were ***: The hardness, SHC, and fibrosis grade of groups E and O were increased at week 1, with greater increases in group E(all P < 0.001). In a subgroup comparison, the hardness, SHC, and fibrosis grade of group E tended to decrease gradually over time, with no regular pattern evident in group O. A comparison between the injected site(duodenal lobe) and non-injected site(splenic lobe) of the pancreas revealed increases in the three parameters of group E only in the duodenal lobe, with increases in group O at both the duodenal and splenic ***: Parenchymal injection of ethanol and octreotide increased pancreatic fibrosis. Unlike octreotide, ethanol provoked localized fibrosis that was maintained over time. It is expected that ethanol injection could eliminate POPF during pancreatic surgery.
