Our purpose was to determine how enamel matrix derivative (EMD) affects the expression ofosteogenesis- and chondrogenesis-related transcription factors in undifferentiated mesenchymal cells.C3H10t1/2 cell line,a typical pluripotential mesenchymal cell line,was cultured with or without EMD forup to 7 *** of mRNAs encoding osteogenesis-and chondrogenesis-related transcription factors(Runx2, Osterix,AJ18,Dlx5,Msx2,Sox5,Sox9 and Zfp60) was measured using real-time polymerasechain ***2 and Sox9 protein expression and the presence of bone morphogenetic protein (BMP)-6-like molecules in EMD were determined by Western *** substantially increased mRNA levels ofosteogenesis-and chondrogenesis-related transcription *** also induced Runx2 and Sox9 *** blotting analysis of EMD using anti-BMP-6 antibody revealed immunoreactive bandscorresponding to about 14 kDa and 60 *** results suggest that EMD stimulates osteogenesis- andchondrogenesis-related transcription factors,and these activities may be mediated,at least in part,by BMP-6in EMD.

this paper presents practical distribution system equipment models such as various distributed generators, voltage regulators, and loads for fast three phase unbalanced load flow calculation in distribution systems. the method can calculate voltage and current of distribution systems, in which distributed generators are introduced. the calculation time of the proposed method is about 40 times faster than that of the Newton-Raphson method. Moreover, an introduction effect evaluation tool for distributed generators using the proposed three phase unbalanced load flow calculation is presented. It provides various functions such as a power system network diagram creation function and a voltage profile chart display function. therefore, the introduction effect evaluation of distributed generators in distribution systems can be evaluated quite easily.

to retrospectively evaluate the diagnostic performance of free-breathing diffusion-weighted imaging (FB-DWI) with modified imaging parameter settings for detecting hepatocellular carcinomas (HCCs). MEtHODSFifty-one patients at risk for HCC were scanned with both FB-DWI and respiratory-triggered DWI with the navigator echo respiratory-triggering technique (Rt-DWI). Qualitatively, the sharpness of the liver contour, the image noise and the chemical shift artifacts on each DWI with b-values of 1000 s/mm2 were independently evaluated by three radiologists using 4-point scoring. We compared the image quality scores of each observer between the two DWI methods, using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. Quantitatively, we compared the signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs) of the liver parenchyma and lesion-to-nonlesion contrast-to-noise ratios (CNRs) after measuring the signal intensity on each DWI with a b-factor of 1000 s/mm2. the average SNRs and CNRs between the two DWI methods were compared by the paired t-test. the detectability of HCC on each DWI was also analyzed by three radiologists. the detectability provided by the two DWI methods was compared using McNemar’s test. RESULtSFor all observers, the averaged image quality scores of FB-DWI were: Sharpness of the liver contour [observer (Obs)-1, 3.08 ± 0.81; Obs-2, 2.98 ± 0.73; Obs-3, 3.54 ± 0.75], those of the distortion (Obs-1, 2.94 ± 0.50; Obs-2, 2.71 ± 0.70; Obs-3, 3.27 ± 0.53), and the chemical shift artifacts (Obs-1, 3.38 ± 0.60; Obs-2, 3.15 ± 1.07; Obs-3, 3.21 ± 0.85). the averaged image quality scores of Rt-DWI were: Sharpness of the liver contour (Obs-1, 2.33 ± 0.65; Obs-2, 2.37 ± 0.74; Obs-3, 2.75 ± 0.81), distortion (Obs-1, 2.81 ± 0.56; Obs-2, 2.25 ± 0.74; Obs-3, 2.96 ± 0.71), and the chemical shift artifacts (Obs-1, 2.92 ± 0.59; Obs-2, 2.21 ± 0.85; Obs-3, 2.77 ± 1.08). Purpose: the purposes of this study were to estimate accumulated kV X-ray imaging dose throughout dynamic tumor tracking (Dtt) irradiation by Vero 4DRt system and to address an analytical skin dose formula for well-balanced kV X-ray imaging conditions between skin dose and image noise. Method: First, skin dose was measured using kV X-ray tube, chamber, and water-equivalent phantoms. Next, imaging dose for six patients in Dtt treatment was computed using log files. Subsequently, scattered dose ratio was calculated by amount of ionization in front of flat panel detector (FPD) for fields with size of maximum and the chamber for 0 - 200 mm-thickness phantoms and tube voltage of 60, 80, 100, 120 kV, respectively. Furthermore, image noise was computed from FPD images. Results: the skin dose was greater by a factor of 1.4 - 1.6 than those in Synergy XVI system. the image noise in FPD, ?was expressed as N = 0.045×(1/QFPDen)0.479, where QFPDen denotes amount of ionization in front of FPD. then, skin dose, D (N, t, v) was formulated as (0.045/N)(1/0.479)/QFPDen/mAs (t, v) ×D/mAs (v), where QFPDen/mAs (t, v) and D/mAs (v) denote amount of ionization in front of FPD and skin dose per mAs, respectively. Using the formulae, it has been demonstrated that skin dose with 120 kV has become lower than any other tube voltage in this study. Conclusion: Using skin doses for the phantom, the skin dose throughout Dtt irradiation was estimated as 0.50 Gy. Furthermore, skin dose by kV X-ray imaging was described as a function of image noise, phantom thickness, and tube voltage, suggesting image noise may be reduced with higher X-ray tube voltage in this phantom study.

the luminescence properties of Ce- or Ce and La-doped gadolinium pyrosilicate （Gd2Si2Ot, GPS） were characterized using vacuum ultraviolet （VUV） excitation light. A prominent emission band was observed in the luminescence spectra with excitation at 60 nm and ascribed to 5d-4f transition of Ce3＋. Because the excitation wavelength of 60 nm corresponded to the excitation in the host matrix, this result indicated that the excitation energy transfer occurred from the host matrix to Ce3＋ ions. On the basis of the rise in the luminescence time profiles with excitation at 60 nm, the energy transfer occurred within 2 ns, which was much shorter than that of Ce-doped Gd2SiO2. For Ce-doped GPS, the decay rate was slower for the host excitation than that for direct excitation of Ce3＋. In contrast, for Ce and La-doped GPS, no significant difference was observed for the host excitation and direct excitation of Ce3＋. this result indicated that the energy transfer from the host to Ce3＋ ions led to a different radiative decay process, and that La doping had an effect on the energy transfer and decay process.

Objective: to evaluate the usefulness of propofol as an alternative drug to amobarbital for the Wada test. Metho ds: the authors analyzed 67 right handed patients out of 123 patients who were candidates for neurosurgical therapy and thus underwent the Wada test as a preoperative evaluation. twelve were tested with propofol and 55 were tested with amobarbital. test conditions of the Wada test, recovery time of muscle power to manual muscle testing (MMt) Grade 3 (t3/5) and Grade 5 (t5/5), onset time of the first verbal response (tverb) after injection and that of the first nonverbal response (tnon verb), were compared between the two groups. Power spectrum analysis of EEG background activity during the Wada test was performed and the time and spatial distribution of polymorphic slow activities were also compared in three cases. Results: With propofol injection, lateralities of language and me mory function were identified in 12 and 9 of 12 patients in comparison to amobarbital (52 and 41 of 55 patients detection in language and memory function). No complications with direct intracarotid injection of propofol were observed. t3/5 and t5/5 with propofol injection were shorter while tverb and tnon verb were longer compared to amobarbital. Absolute power of polymorphic slow EEG waves gradually increased and then rapidly decreased with propofol, which was in contrast to amobarbital injection. Conclusions: With direct intracarotid propofol injection, the Wada test was satisfactorily performed in all 12 patients and 2 more patients with left handedness or with different injection dose for each side without any complications. Clinical usefulness of propofol as an alternative drug to amobarbital for the Wada test was indicated.
