the arc-heated high-temperature gas is rotationally and vibrationally excited, and partially dissociated and ionized. When such gas flows inside a nozzle, energy transfers from rotational and vibrational energy modes to translational energy mode, and, in addition, recombination reactions occur. these processes are in thermal and chemical nonequilibrium. the present computations treat arc-heated nonequilibrium nozzle flows using a six temperature model (translational, rotational, N2 vibrational, O2 vibrational, NO vibrational and electron temperatures), and nonequilibrium chemical reactions of air. From the calculated flow properties, emission spectra at the nozzle exit were re-constructed by using the code for computing spectra of high temperature air. On the other hand, measurements of N2+(1-) emission spectra were conducted at the nozzle exit in the 20 kW arc-heated wind tunnel. Vibrational and rotational temperatures of N2 were determined using a curve fitting method on N2+(1-) emission spectra, with the vibrational and rotational temperatures for N2 and N2+ being assumed equal. Comparison of the measured and computed results elucidated that the experimental temperatures were larger than the computed ones. At present, we are trying to reveal the main reason for the discrepancy between the computed and measured N2 vibrational and rotational temperatures.

the boundary element method in framework is given to evaluate three dimensional frictional contact problems. Elasto plastic material behavior is taken into account by mean of an initial stress formulation and Von Mises yield criterion. the amount of tangential traction at contact surface is limited by Coulomb's friction law and constant shear rule. From some numerical results of a plate rolling problem, it is demonstrated here that the BEM can be used to efficiently and accurately analyze this class of forming problems.

Numerical simulations of 10 kW and 110 kW inductively coupled plasma （ICP） wind tunnels were carried out to study physical properties of the flow inside the ICP torch and vacuum chamber with air as tile working gas. two-dimensional compressible axisymmetric Navier- Stokes （N-S） equations that took into account 11 species and 49 chemical reactions of air, were solved. A heat source model was used to describe the heating phenomenon instead of solving the electromagnetic equations. In the vacuum chamber, a four-temperature model was coupled with N-S equations. Numerical results for tile 10 kW ICP wind tunnel are presented and discussed in detail as a representative case. It was found that the plasma flow in the vacuum chamber tended to be in local thermoehemical equilibrium. to study the influence of operation conditions on the flow field, simulations were carried out for different chamber pressures and/or input powers. the computational results for the above two ICP wind tunnels were compared with corresponding experimental data. the computational and experimental results agree well, therefore the flow fields of ICP wind tunnels can be clearly understood.

two-dimensional（2D） numerical simulations of thermochemical nonequilibrium inductively coupled plasma（ICP） flows inside a 10-kW inductively coupled plasma wind tunnel（ICPWt） were carried out with nitrogen as the working *** axisymmetric NavierStokes（N-S） equations coupled with magnetic vector potential equations were solved.A fourtemperature model including an improved electron-vibration relaxation time was used to model the internal energy exchange between electron and heavy *** third-order accuracy electron transport properties（3rd AEtP） were applied to the simulations.A hybrid chemical kinetic model was adopted to model the chemical nonequilibrium *** flow characteristics such as thermal nonequilibrium,inductive discharge,effects of Lorentz force were made clear through the present *** was clarified that the thermal nonequilibrium model played an important role in properly predicting the temperature *** prediction accuracy can be improved by applying the 3rd AEtP to the simulation for this ICPWt.

Layer-Structure lithium zinc borate, LiZnBO3, is prepared by a solid state reaction of LiOH·H2O, ZnO, and H3BO3 at 1000°C for 10 h. Highly preferred orientation and a layer-structure are observed in the powder XRD patterns and the SEM images, respectively. the Rietveld analysis indicates a monoclinic unit cell with space group C2/c, and the lattice parameters are refined as a = 8.827 ?, b = 5.078 ?, c = 6.171 ?, and β = 118.86°. LiZnBO3 shows the capacity of 17 mAh/g between 1.3 V and 4.3 V (vs. Li/Li+) larger than ZnO.

Epithelial cell adhesion efficacy of a novel peptide identified by panning on a smooth titanium surface

Epithelial attachment via the basal lamina on the tooth surface provides an important structural defence mechanism against bacterial invasion in combating periodontal disease. However, when considering dental implants, strong epithelial attachment does not exist throughout the titanium-soft tissue interface, making soft tissues more susceptible to peri-implant disease. this study introduced a novel synthetic peptide(A10) to enhance epithelial attachment. A10 was identified from a bacterial peptide display library and synthesized. A10 and protease-activated receptor 4-activating peptide(PAR4-AP, positive control) were immobilized on commercially pure titanium. the peptide-treated titanium showed high epithelial cell migration ability during incubation in platelet-rich plasma. We confirmed the development of dense and expanded BL(stained by Ln5) with pericellular junctions(stained by ZO1) on the peptide-treated titanium surface. In an adhesion assay of epithelial cells on A10-treated titanium, PAR4-AP-treated titanium, bovine root and non-treated titanium, A10-treated titanium and PAR4-AP-treated titanium showed significantly stronger adhesion than non-treated titanium. PAR4-AP-treated titanium showed significantly higher inflammatory cytokine release than non-treated titanium. there was no significant difference in inflammatory cytokine release between A10-treated and non-treated titanium. these results indicated that A10 could induce the adhesion and migration of epithelial cells with low inflammatory cytokine release. this novel peptide has a potentially useful application that could improve clinical outcomes with titanium implants and abutments by reducing or preventing peri-implant disease.

PCR-Mediated Detection of Endophytic and Phytopathogenic Fungi from Needles of the Japanese Black Pine, <i>Pinus thunbergii</i>

A specific and sensitive polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay based on the internal transcribed spacer (ItS) region of rDNA sequences was developed to detect endophytic and phytopathogenic fungi from needles of the Japanese black pine, Pinus thunbergii. Sequences of the ItS regions of Lophodermium conigenum, Lecanosticta acicola, Pestalotiopsis neglecta, Rhizosphaera kalkhoffii, and Septorioides pini-thunbergii were compared, and each specific primer pair for these species was designed. First, the designed primer pairs were tested for their specificity to detect each species. A PCR product was amplified only each combination of species and its specific primer pair, confirming the specificity of the designed primer pairs. these primer pairs were also tested on DNA extracted from the needles of P. thunbergii. the PCR products were amplified not only in needles with lesions but also in healthy needles without symptoms. Furthermore, several endophytic and phytopathogenic fungi could be simultaneously detected from the same region in a needle. the PCR-mediated detection method developed in this study will be a valuable tool for the detection of the endophytic and phytopathogenic fungi, not only as a rapid diagnostic tool for early detection but also for monitoring variations in both the quality and quantity of the endophytic and phytopathogenic fungi in needles in Japanese black pines.

A novel equation and nomogram including body weight for estimating prostate volumes in men with biopsy-proven benign prostatic hyperplasia

Anthropometric measurements, e.g., body weight （BW）, body mass index （BMI）, as well as serum prostate-specific antigen （PSA） and percent-free PSA （%fPSA） have been shown to have positive correlations with total prostate volume （tPV）. We developed an equation and nomogram for estimating tPV, incorporating these predictors in men with benign prostatic hyperplasia （BPH）. A total of 1852 men, including 1113 at tokyo Medical and Dental University （tMDU） Hospital as a training set and 739 at Cancer Institute Hospital （CIH） as a validation set, with PSA levels of up to 20 ng m1-1, who underwent extended prostate biopsy and were proved to have BPH, were enrolled in this study. We developed an equation for continuously coded tPV and a logistic regression-based nomogram for estimating a tPV grater than 40 mh Predictive accuracy and performance characteristics were assessed using an area under the receiver operating characteristics curve （AUC） and calibration plots. the final linear regression model indicated age, PSA, %fPSA and BW as independent predictors of continuously coded tPV. For predictions in the training set, the multiple correlation coefficient was increased from 0.38 for PSA alone to 0.60 in the final model. We developed a novel nomogram incorporating age, PSA, %fPSA and BW for estimating tPV greater than 40 mh External validation confirmed its predictive accuracy, with AUC value of 0.764. Calibration plots showed good agreement between predicted probability and observed proportion. In conclusion, tPV can be easily estimated using these four independent predictors.

Recent diagnostic and therapeutic progress for severe acute pancreatitis(SAP)remarkably decreased the casemortality *** further decrease the mortality rate of SAP,it is important to precisely evaluate the severity at an early stage,and initiate appropriate treatment as early as *** Committee of Intractable Diseases of the Pancreas in Japan developed simpler criteria combining routinely available data with clinical *** can be evaluated by laboratory examinations or by clinical signs,reducing the defect values of the severity ***,the severity criteria considered laboratory/clinical severity scores and contrastenhanced computed tomography(CE-Ct)findings as independent risk ***,CE-Ct scans are not necessarily required to evaluate the severity of acute *** was no fatal case in mild AP diagnosed by the CE-Ct severity score,whereas case-mortality rate in those with SAP was 14.8%.Case-mortality of SAP that fulfilled both the laboratory/clinical and the CE-Ct severity criteria was 30.8%.It is recommended,therefore,to perform CE-Ct examination to clarify the prognosis in those patients who were diagnosed as SAP by laboratory/clinical severity *** the mortality rate of these patients with SAP is high,such patients should be transferred to advanced medical units.
