Cerebral hemorrhages are fairly common in full-term neonates with no history of traumatic birth, mostly limited, and with benign evolution. We report a case of a full-term neonate from vaginal birth with caput succedaneum in the right parietal area. the neonate underwent cranial ultrasonography and color Doppler which showed extra-axial blood effusion. Color Doppler showed vessels crossing the collection area, which allowed the diagnosis of subarachnoid hematoma.

Colorectal cancer(CRC)is the second leading cause of cancer-related death *** five-year survival rate of CRC patients depends on the stage at diagnosis,being higher than 80%when CRC is diagnosed in the early stages but lower than 10%when CRC is diagnosed in advanced *** against specific CRC autoantigens(tumor-associated antigens(tAAs))in the sera of patients have been widely demonstrated to aid in early ***,we herein aim to identify autoantigens target of autoantibodies specific to CRC that possess a significant ability to discriminate between CRC patients and healthy individuals by means of liquid *** that end,we examined the protein content of the exosomes released by five CRC cell lines and tissue samples from CRC patients by means of immunoprecipitation coupled with mass spectrometry analysis.A total of 103 proteins were identified as potential autoantigens specific to *** bioinformatics and meta-analysis,we selected 15 proteins that are more likely to be actual CRC autoantigens in order to evaluate their role in CRC prognosis by Western blot(WB)and immunohistochemistry(IHC).We found dysregulation at the protein level for 11 of these proteins in both tissue and plasma exosome samples from patients,along with an association of nine of these proteins with CRC *** validation,all but one showed a statistically significant high diagnostic ability to distinguish CRC patients and individuals with premalignant lesions from healthy individuals,either by luminescence Halotag-based beads,or by a multiplexed biosensing platform involving the use of magnetic microcarriers as solid support modified with covalently immobilized Halotag fusion proteins constructed for CRC *** together,our results highlight the usefulness of the approach defined here to identify the tAAs specific to chronic diseases;they also demonstrate that the measurement of autoantibody levels in plasma against the tAAs identified here

the rapid degradation of magnesium(Mg)-based implants in physiological environment limits its clinical applications, and alloying treatment is an effective way to regulate the degradation rate of Mg-based materials. In the present study, three Mg alloys, including Mg-0.8Ca(denoted as ZQ), Mg-0.8Ca-5Zn-1.5Ag(denoted as ZQ71) and Mg-0.8Ca-5Zn-2.5Ag(denoted as ZQ63), were fabricated by alloying with calcium(Ca), zinc(Zn) and silver(Ag). the results obtained from electrochemical corrosion tests and in vitro degradation evaluation demonstrated that the three Mg alloys exhibited distinct corrosion resistance, and ZQ71 exhibited the lowest degradation rate in vitro among them. After addition of Zn and Ag, the antibacterial potential of Mg alloys was also enhanced. the in vitro cell experiments showed that all the three Mg alloys had good biocompatibility. After implantation in a rat femoral defect, ZQ71 showed significantly higher osteogenic activity and bone substitution rate than ZQ63 and ZQ, due to its higher corrosion resistance as well as the stimulatory effects of the released metallic ions. In addition, the average daily degradation rate of each Mg alloy in vivo was significantly higher than that in vitro, as could be due to the implantation site located in the highly vascularized trabecular region. Importantly, the correlations between the in vitro and in vivo degradation parameters of the Mg alloys were systematically analyzed to find out the potential predictors of the in vivo degradation performance of the materials. the current work not only evaluated the clinical potential of the three biodegradable Mg alloys as bone grafts but also provided a feasible approach for predicting the in vivo degradation behavior of biodegradable materials.

the cochlear implant is a prosthesis that is capable to replace listening capability among patients with sensorineural hearing loss. Many studies suggest a negative relationship among duration of sound deprivation and audiometric gain (by means of speech perception test) after cochlear implantation. We evaluated surgical and audiologic results among post-lingual deafened adults, in different times of sound deprivation, and correlated with social isolation, presence of vertigo or tinnitus, and the speech therapy yield, between pre- and post-operative stages. A retrospective study was conducted on patients with post-lingual hearing loss, aged over 18 years old who underwent cochlear implant surgery in a public hospital from 2004 to 2014. Audiological, socio-demographic questionnaire, and manifestations of vertigo and tinnitus, during pre- and post-operative stages, were compared and correlating to the different periods of sound deprivation. two groups were studied. the group A was composed of 38 participants (14 male and 24 female) with sound deprivation of less than 10 years;and group B was composed of 17 participants (8 male and 9 female) with sound deprivation longer than 10 years. We found no differences regarding age, sex, duration of sound deprivation, mean pure-tone audiometric results (pre- and post-surgery), and speech perception tests (pre-operatively). After one year of the surgery, we observed a significant difference between both groups, with a better performance to group A. the results of speech perception test, after cochlear implantation in group B, were worse than the results obtained in group A, although these correlations are not determinant whether to perform cochlear implant surgery or not.

AIM to evaluate the occurrence of resistant mutations in treatment-na?ve hepatitis C virus(HCV) sequences deposited in the European hepatitis C virus database(euH CVdb). MEtHODs the sequences were downloaded from the eu HCVdb(https://***/eu HCVdb/). the search was performed for full-length Ns3 protease, Ns5 A and Ns5 B polymerase sequences of HCV, separated by genotypes 1a, 1b, 2a, 2b and 3a, and resulted in 798 Ns3, 708 Ns5 A and 535 Ns5 B sequences from HCV genotypes1a, 1b, 2a, 2b and 3a, after the exclusion of sequences containing errors and/or gaps or incomplete sequences, and sequences from patients previously treated with direct antiviral agents(DAA). the sequence alignment was performed with MEGA 6.06 MAC and the resulting protein sequences were then analyzed using the BioE dit 7.2.5. for mutations associated with resistance. Only positions that have been described as being associated with failure in treatment in in vivo studies, and/or as conferring a more than 2-fold change in replication in comparison to the wildtype reference strain in in vitro phenotypic assays were included in the *** the Q80 K variant in the Ns3 gene was the most prevalent mutation, being found in 44.66% of subtype 1a and 0.25% of subtype 1b. Other frequent mutations observed in more than 2% of the Ns3 sequences were: I170V(3.21%) in genotype 1a, and Y56F(15.93%), V132I(23.28%) and I170V(65.20%) in genotype 1b. For the Ns5 A, 2.21% of the genotype 1a sequences have the P58 s mutation, 5.95% of genotype 1b sequences have the R30 Q mutation, 15.79% of subtypes 2a sequences have the Q30 R mutation, 23.08% of subtype 2b sequences have a L31 M mutation, and in subtype 3a sequences, 23.08% have the M31 L resistant variants. For the Ns5 B, the V321 L RAV was identified in 0.60% of genotype 1a and in 0.32% of genotype 1b sequences, and the N142 t variant was observed in 0.32% of subtype 1b sequences. the C316 Y, s556 G, D559 N RAV were identified in 0.33%, 7.82% and 0.

Pectinases are used in Enology for some different utilities. Enzymatic preparations from moulds are a mixed of different enzymes with strong and unspe-cific activities. some saccharomyces cerevisiae pro-duce pectinases which can be used instead of com-mercial preparations. the objectives of this work were to study the enzyme secretion by one saccharo-myces cerevisiae (CECt 11783) for growing on grape skin (industry oenological by-product) as carbon source. Preliminary experiments showed that the strain produced pectinases for growing on grape skin without any other carbon source. statistical treat-ment (factorial design 25) was applied to evaluate the influences of related factors (agitation, temperature, presence of peptone and detergent in the medium and time of growth) Variables with the most significant interactions for pectinase production were agitation and nitrogen source concentration. Response surface methodology showed that a first order model was not adequate for results. Nevertheless, the built of a sec-ond order model offered a polynomial equation which surface predicted a maximum of activity (52.68 enzymatic units) for specific values of the studied variables (147.8 rpm of agitation and 15.9 g of pep-tone/ L culture medium).

to determine if reduced tree densities(number of trees per unit area) lead to changes in micro-meteorological and tree physiological characteristics, two areas with different tree densities were assessed. One was an agrosilvopastoral system(AGP) with low tree density, and the other, a secondary forest(sF) with greater tree numbers, both located in a semiarid region of Brazil. Data were collected simultaneously by two automated weather stations: rainfall, air(t_a) and soil temperatures(t_(s5 cm)), relative humidity(RHair), photosynthetically active radiation(PAR), soil moisture at two depths(M_(s30 cm)and M_(s50 cm)),and wind velocity(Vw). Net photosynthesis in Cordia oncocalyx Allema?o trees was measured with an infrared gas analyzer in February, March, May, July, August and september 2011, which encompasses a rainy period followed by a dry period. Average values of ta, t_(s5 cm), Vwand PAR were greater and average values of RHairand M_(s50 cm) were lesser in the AGP. Photosynthetic rates were greater in plants growing under the AGP at the onset of the dry season when Vw, PAR and t_(s5 cm)were greater and M_(s50 cm) was lesser. Photosynthetic rates correlated strongly with physical parameters during the dry season, especially under sF. Differences in tree numbers between AGP and sF led to differences in physical environmental parameters;however, the latter had less influence on photosynthetic rates in C. oncocalyx during the rainy season. During the dry season, all physical parameters had an impact on net photosynthesis under sF but not under AGP. this indicates a certain independence of plants in AGP.
