Crohn＇s disease and ulcerative colitis can be grouped as the inflammatory bowel diseases （IBD）. these conditions have become increasingly common in recent years, including in children and young people. Although much is known about aspects of the pathogenesis of these diseases, the precise aetiology is not yet understood, and there remains no cure. Recent data has illustrated the importance of a number of genes-several of these are important in the onset of IBD in early life, including in infancy. Pain, diarrhoea and weight loss are typical symptoms of paediatric Crohn＇s disease whereas bloody diarrhoea is more typical of colitis in children. However, atypical symptoms may occur in both conditions： these include isolated impairment of linear growth or presentation with extra-intestinal manifestations such as erythma nodosum. Growth and nutrition are commonly compromised at diagnosis in both Crohn＇s disease and colitis. Consideration of possible IBD and completion of appropriate investigations are essential to ensure prompt diagnosis, the- reby avoiding the consequences of diagnostic delay. Patterns of disease including location and progression of IBD in childhood differ substantially from adult- onset disease. Various treatment options are available for children and adolescents with IBD. Exclusive enteral nutrition plays a central role in the induction of remission of active Crohn＇s disease. Medical and surgical therapies need to considered within the context of a growing and developing child. the overall management of these chronic conditions in children should include multi-disciplinary expertise, with focus upon maintaining control of gut inflammation, optimising nutrition, growth and quality of life, whilst preventing disease or treatment-related complications.

Contacting state between molten metal and a mold and initial solidification process of continuously cast metals can be controlled by imposing an intermittent magnetic *** this study, effect of the intermittent magnetic field on the initial solidification ofcontinuoasly cast metals was investigated by measuring the temperature distribution in the melt pool and the initial solidification starting position of shells. It was found that under the condition with intermittent magnetic field, the melt near meniscns is in slow cooling state, the initial solidification starting position descends, initial solidification shell thickens and the liquid-solid interface becomes smooth.

Quenched and tempered steels are prone to hydrogen induced cracking in the heat affected zone after welding. the use of austenitic stainless steel consumables to weld the above steel was the only available remedy because of higher solubility for hydrogen in austenitic phase. In this investigation, an attempt was made to determine a suitable consumable to replace expensive austenitic consumables. two different consumables, namely, austenitie stain less steel and low hydrogen ferritic steel, were used to fabricate the joints by shielded metal are welding （sMAW） and flux cored arc welding （FCAW） processes. the joints fabricated by using low hydrogen ferritic steel consumables showed superior transverse tensile properties, whereas joints fabricated by using austenitic stainless steel consumables exhibited better impact toughness, irrespective of the welding process used. the sMAW joints exhibited superior mechanical and impact properties, irrespective of the consumables used, than their FCAW counterparts.

A family of geophysical lineaments have been identified in ~15,000 km^2 in central Kerala between9 30'N to 10 45'N and 76 00'E to 77°30′E,integrating geophysical data with geological and geomorphological features. the characteristics of these lineaments in the magnetic and gravity fields and their derivatives have been analysed. the evolution of the lineaments has been traced to the temporal phases of global evolution of the region. A group of these faults have formed by reactivation of the deep-seated distensional fractures associated with and accompanying dyke emplacements during the episodic breakup of Gondwana at ~90 and 65 Ma under distinctive mantle thermal regimes. It is possible that reactivation of these distensional faults may have started during the cooling interval of time between the two distensions in the 90 and 65 Ma and post 65 Ma periods and later in the Cenozoic, when the lineaments were enlarged to their present dimension, possibly under the influence of forces that led to the uplift of the western Ghats. these may extend down to the crust-mantle interface. A cluster of youngergeophysical lineaments has been generated by reactivation along the weak planes of transformation of the charnockitic rocks of the Precambrian. they seem to have a strike-slip character. they are devoid of any dyke association and were formed on a cold crust. they may be confined to the upper-middle *** were generated in the high intensity intra-plate palaeo-stress fields of the triple forces arising from(1) the back-thrust from the Himalayan Collision;(2) the impact of epeirogenic forces and related isostatic uplift of the Western Ghats and(3) the flexural isostatic uplifts due to surface loads of late Mesozoic basaltic lavas and Cenozoic sedimentation in the coastal rifted basins in late Cenozoic, probably in the time span of 20 Ma to the present, when the palaeostress fields were most intense.

An incubation experiment(Exp. 1) with three soils, two from Australia and one from Norway, was carried out to investigate the fate of dissolved BorreGro(a lignosulfonate, produced by Borregaard Lignotech Company, Norway) at different concentrations(0, 10 and 100 mg C L-1) in soil solutions. A rhizobox experiment(Exp. 2) was also done in a Norwegian clay soil, mixed with four levels of BorreGro-carbon(BG-C) added(0, 2, 20 and 200 mg BG-C kg-1) to test the impact of BorreGro on root growth, rhizosphere chemistry(pH, metals and dissolved organic carbon(DOC)) and the composition of phospholipid fatty acids(PLFAs). the BorreGro addition increased the concentration of Mn due to the high concentrations in BorreGro. the BorreGro addition to soil had an indirect but significant impact on the rhizosphere chemistry and PLFAs. the lowest amounts of added BorreGro facilitated the DOC excretion at plant roots, and thereby increased the bacterial and fungal biomass, likely as an effect of increased Mn solubility from BorreGro in the root zone.

Modem societies strongly support the recycling practices over simple waste accumulation due to environmental harm caused. In the framework of sustainable recycling of plastics from WEEE, pyrolysis is proposed here as a means of obtaining secondary value-added products. the aim of this study was to investigate the thermal degradation and the products obtained after pyrolysis of specific polymers found in the plastic part of WEEE, using thermogravimetric analysis and a pyrolizer equipped with a GC/Ms. Polymers studied include ABs, HIPs, PC and a blend having a composition similar to that appearing in WEEE. It was found that, PC shows greater heat endurance compared to the other polymers, whereas ABs depolymerizes in three-steps. the existence of several polymers in the blend results in synergistic effects which decrease the onset and final temperature of degradation. Moreover, the fragmentation occurred in the pyrolyzer, at certain temperatures, resulted in a great variety of compounds, depending on the polymer type, such as monomers, aromatic products, pnenoJlc compounds and hydrocarbons. the main conclusion from this investigation is that pyrolysis could be an effective method for the sustainable recycling of the plastic part of WEEE resulting in a mixture of chemicals with varying composition but being excellent to be used as fuel retrieved from secondary recycling sources.

Continuous segregation of a binary mixture of heterogeneous （different density） solids is carried out in a gas-solid fluidized bed. We investigate how gas velocity, solids feed rate, flotsam feed composition, bottom discharge pipe diameter, and minimum fluidization velocity ratio of the flotsam to jetsam parti- cles influence the solids holdup, separation factor, and product quality （flotsam purity at the top outlet）. the results are interpreted in terms of solids holdup information. the results indicate that the separation factor decreases when the gas velocity, bottom discharge pipe diameter, flotsam feed composition, or the minimum fluidization velocity ratio increase, while the separation factor increases as the solids feed rate increases. the product quality decreases when the gas velocity, solids feed rate, or minimum fluidization velocity ratio increase, while the product quality increases as the bottom discharge pipe diameter or flot- sam feed composition increase. Correlations for predicting the separation factor and product quality are proposed using a logistic model for individual flotsam feed compositions, which satisfactorily compares with the present experimental data.

the major flow physics of the unsteady condensation in the subsonic flows induced by the unsteady expansion waves in shock tube was studied in this paper. the unsteady condensation phenomenon was analyzed by using the two-dimensional, unsteady, Navier-stokes equations, which were fully coupled with a droplet growth equation. the third-order tVD MUsCL scheme was applied to solve the governing equation systems. the computational results were compared with the previous experimental data. the time-dependent behavior of unsteady condensation of moist air in shock tube was investigated in details. the results show that the major characteristics of the unsteady condensation phenomenon in shock tube are very different from those in the supersonic wind tunnels.
