Attenuated retinoic acid signaling is among the early responses in mouse uterus approaching embryo attachment

the uterus is transiently receptive for embryo *** remains to be understood why the uterus does not reject a semi-allogeneic embryo(to the biological mother)or an allogeneic embryo(to a surrogate)for *** gain insights,we examined uterine early response genes approaching embryo attachment on day 3 post coitum(D3)at 22 hours when blue dye reaction,an indication of embryo attachment,had not manifested in mice.C57BL/6 pseudo-pregnant(control)and pregnant mouse uteri were collected on D3 at 22 hours for microarray *** self-assembling-manifold(SAM)algorithm identified 21,858 unique *** component analysis indicated a clear separation between the pseudo-pregnant and pregnant *** were 106 upregulated and five downregulated protein-coding genes in the pregnant uterus with fold change(fc)>1.5 andq valueene ontology(GO)analysis of the 106 upregulated genes revealed 38 significant GO biological process(GOBP)terms(Pthem were associated with immune responses,with a dominant natural killer(NK)cell activation *** the top eight upregulated protein-coding genes,Cyp26a1 inactivates retinoic acid(RA)whileLrat promotes vitamin A storage,both of which are expected to attenuate RA bioavailability;Atp6v0d2 andGjb2 play roles in ion transport and transmembrane transport;Gzmb,Gzmc,andIl2rb are involved in immune responses;andtdo2 is important for kynurenine *** of these genes or their related pathways have functions in immune *** signaling has been implicated in immune tolerance and immune homeostasis,and uterine NK cells have been implicated in immunotolerance at the maternal-fetal interface in the *** mechanisms of immune responses approaching embryo attachment remain to be *** coordinated effects of the early response genes may hold the keys to the question of why the uterus does not reject an implanting embryo.

HI in High Gas-phase Metallicity Dwarf Galaxy WISeA J230615.06+143927.9

We present resolved Giant Metrewave Radio telescope H I observations of the high gas-phase metallicity dwarf galaxy WISeA J230615.06+143927.9(z = 0.005)(hereafter J2306) and investigate whether it could be a tidal Dwarf Galaxy(tDG) candidate. tDGs are observed to have higher metallicities than normal dwarfs. J2306 has an unusual combination of a blue g-r color of 0.23 mag, irregular optical morphology and high-metallicity(12 +log(O/H) = 8.68 ± 0.14), making it an interesting galaxy to study in more detail. We find J2306 to be an H I rich galaxy with a large extended, unperturbed rotating H I disk. Using our H I data we estimated its dynamical mass and found the galaxy to be dark matter(DM) dominated within its H I radius. the quantity of DM, inferred from its dynamical mass, appears to rule out J2306 as an evolved tDG. A wide area environment search reveals J2306 to be isolated from any larger galaxies which could have been the source of its high gas metallicity. Additionally, the H I morphology and kinematics of the galaxy show no indication of a recent merger to explain the *** detailed optical spectroscopic observations of J2306 might provide an answer to how a seemingly ordinary irregular dwarf galaxy achieved such a high level of metal enrichment.

the thermoluminescence(tL)emission of synthetic and natural Ce-monazites was characterized here to determine the potential application in the identification of microscopic defects from a qualitative point of view trying to link each tL peak to a chemical-physical *** kinetic parameters that lead the luminescence processes were calculated by means of variable heating rate and computing glow curve deconvolution methods and allow identifying three groups of components at~90,130 and 290℃(for the mineral sample)and~90,170,220,270 and 320℃(for the synthetic CePO_(4):Nd_(0.20),La_(0.25)).the main differences appreciated in these complex tL curves are mainly due to(i)the content of impurities(natural sample contains lanthanides as well as U 0.60%and th 5.22%)and(ii)the degree of crystallinity of the samples which is directly related to the type of impurities(synthetic monazite relies only on Nd and La).the behavior of the dose response in the range of 1-8 Gy is similar for both samples;the tL intensity increases linearly as the dose increases without changes in the position of the maxima,denoting first-order kinetic luminescence *** peak could be mostly associated with structural defects(i.e.,phase transitions),chemical reactions(i.e.,Ce3+?Ce4+redox reaction,dehydration or dehydroxylation processes)or intrinsic defects(i.e.,Frenkel defects,ODCs or NBOHCs).

Assessing bioactivity of environmental water samples filtered using nanomembrane technology and mammalian cell lines

this project reports on the use of a novel nanomembrane filtering technology to isolate and analyze the bioactivity of microplastic(MP)-containing debris from Lake Ontario water *** MPs are a complex mixture of polymers and sorbed chemicals that are persistent and can exhibit a wide range of toxic *** human exposure to MPs is unavoidable,it is necessary to characterize their bioactivity to assess potential health *** work seeks to quantify MP presence in the nearshore waters of Lake Ontario and begin to characterize the bioactivity of the filtrate containing *** utilized silicon nitride(SiN)nanomembrane technology to isolate debris sized between 8 and 20μm from lake water samples collected at various times and *** were identified with Nile red ***-based assays were conducted directly on the filtered debris to test for cell viability,aryl hydrocarbon receptor(AhR)activity,and interleukin 6(IL-6)levels as a measure of proinflammatory *** samples contained *** of the isolated debris impacted cell ***,AhR activity and IL-6 levels varied over ***,no associations were observed between the amount of plastic and *** differences in activity are likely due to variations in the physiochemical properties of debris between *** results highlight the need for increased sampling to fully characterize the bioactivity of MPs in human cells and to elucidate the role that sample physiochemical and spatiotemporal properties play in this activity.

Comparisons of oxbow lake fish assemblages in relation to bigheaded carp establishment in the lower White River, Arkansas

Background Since the late 1990s, bigheaded carps(largely silver carp [Hypophthalmichthys molitrix] but also bighead carp [H. nobilis]) have established throughout the lower Mississippi River basin. Using previously studied oxbow lakes in the lower White River basin, Arkansas, we compared current(2017, “post-carp” establishment) fish assemblages to historical(2002, “pre-carp” establishment) fish assemblages. Fish assemblages were comprehensively assessed using multiple gears, including boat electrofishing, mini-fyke nets, and experimental small-mesh gill *** t-tests suggested that fish assemblage indices of richness, diversity, evenness, and dominance were often greater(P the post-carp period as reflected by boat electrofishing and experimental gill nets. However, all indices were generally similar(P > 0.05) between the pre-carp and post-carp period with fish assemblages depicted using mini-fyke nets. Nonmetric multidimensional scaling analyses indicated that fish assemblages differed structurally between pre-carp and post-carp periods. Assemblage differences were linked to both small and large abundance changes for more than 20 species. Abundances of gizzard shad(Dorosoma cepedianum), emerald shiner(Notropis atherinoides), pugnose minnow(Opsopoeodus emiliae), crappies(Pomoxis spp.), bluegill(Lepomis macrochirus), orangespotted sunfish(L. humilis), and yellow bass(Morone mississippiensis) declined between the pre-carp and postcarp periods. Conversely, abundances of weed shiner(N. texanus), pallid shiner(Hybopsis amnis), longear sunfish(L. megalotis), buffalofishes(Ictiobus spp.), and gars(Lepisosteus spp.) generally increased during the same *** Although not possible to conclude assemblage shifts were entirely related to bigheaded carps due to the absence of an appropriate reference system where carps did not establish, the wide establishment of these carps is one of the most pervasive changes to have occurred in the lower White

Radiative decays D((s))*→D((s))γare revisited in light of new experimental data from the BaBar and BeSⅢ*** radiative couplings gD*Dγencoding nonperturbative QCD effects are calculated in the framework of the covariant confined quark model developed by *** compare our results with other theoretical studies and experimental *** couplings(in GeV-1)|g(D*+D+γ)|=0.45(9)and|g(D*0D0γ)|=1.72(34)calculated in our model agree with the corresponding experimental data|g(D*+D+γ)|=0.47(7)and|g(D*0D0γ)|=1.77(16).the most interesting case is the decay Ds*→Dsγ,for which a recent prediction based on light-cone sum rules at next-to-leading order|gDs*Dsγ|=0.60(19)deviates from the first(and only to date)lattice QCD result|gDs*Dsγ|=0.11(2)at nearly3σ.Our calculation yields|gDs*Dsγ|=0.29(6),which falls somehow between the two mentioned results,although it is larger than those predicted in other studies using quark models or QCD sum rules.
