Role of diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging in the differential diagnosis of focal hepatic lesions

AIM:to evaluate the utility of diffusion-weighted im-aging(DWI)in screening and differential diagnosis of benign and malignant focal hepatic ***:Magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)ex-aminations were performed using the Signa Excite Xl twin Speed 1.5t system(GE Healthcare,Milwaukee,WI,USA).Seventy patients who had undergone MRI of the liver [29 hepatocellular carcinomas(HCC),four cholangiocarcinomas,34 metastatic liver cancers,10 hemangiomas,and eight cysts] between April 2004 and August 2008 were retrospectively ***-alization of lesions,relative contrast ratio(RCR),and apparent diffusion coefficient(ADC)were compared between benign and malignant lesions on ***-perparamagnetic iron oxide(SPIO)was administered to 59 patients,and RCR was compared pre-and ***:DWI showed higher contrast between ma-lignant lesions(especially in multiple small metastatic cancers)and surrounding liver parenchyma than did contrast-enhanced computed ***(mean ± SD × 10-3 mm2/s)were signif icantly lower(P t lesions(HCC:1.31 ± 0.28 and liver me-tastasis:1.11 ± 0.22)and were signifi cantly higher in benign lesions(hemangioma:1.84 ± 0.37 and cyst:2.61 ± 0.45)than in the surrounding hepatic *** between malignant lesions and surrounding he-patic tissues signifi cantly improved after SPIO adminis-tration,but RCRs in benign lesions were not ***:DWI is a simple and sensitive method for screening focal hepatic lesions and is useful for dif-ferential diagnosis.

OBJECtIVE:the interleukin(IL)-12 cytokine family is closely related to the development of t helper cells,which are responsible for autoimmune disease enhancement or ***-12 family members are generally heterodimers and share threeα-subunits(p35,p19,and p28)and twoβ-subunits(p40 and EBI3).However,aβ-sheet p40 homodimer has been shown to exist and antagonize IL-12 and IL-23 signaling ***,we assumed the existence of a p40-EBI3 heterodimer in nature and sought to investigate its role in immune ***:the presence of the p40-EBI3 heterodimer was confirmed by ELISA,immunoprecipitation,and western blotting.A p40-EBI3 vector and p40-EBI3-Fc protein were synthesized to confirm the immunological role of this protein in mice with collageninduced arthritis(CIA).the anti-inflammatory effects of p40-EBI3 were analyzed with regard to clinical,histological,and immune cell-regulating features in mice with ***:Clinical arthritis scores and the expression levels of proinflammatory cytokines(e.g.,IL-17,IL-1β,IL-6,and tNF-α)were significantly attenuated in p40-EBI3-overexpressing and p40-EBI3-Fc-treated mice with CIA compared to vehicle-treated mice with *** joint damage and vessel formation-related gene expression were also reduced by p40-EBI3 heterodimer *** vitro,the p40-EBI3-Fc protein significantly suppressed the differentiation of th17 cells and reciprocally induced CD4+CD25+Foxp3+(regulatory t)cells.p40-EBI3 also inhibited osteoclast formation in a concentrationdependent ***:In this study,p40-EBI3 ameliorated proinflammatory conditions both in vivo and in *** propose that p40-EBI3 is a novel anti-inflammatory cytokine involved in suppressing the immune response through the expansion of treg cells and suppression of th17 cells and osteoclastogenesis.

Expression of prothymosin α predicts early recurrence and poor prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma

BACKGROUND：Prothymosinα（PtMA）is a nuclear oncoprotein-transcription factor essential for cell cycle progression and *** was overexpressed in several human malignancies including hepatocellular carcinoma（HCC）.However,the prognostic significance of PtMA protein expression in HCC remains *** the present study,we evaluated PtMA protein expression by immunohistochemistry in order to elucidate the prognostic roles of PtMA in HCC ***： By immunohistochemistry, we investigated the expression of PtMA protein in tumor tissue from 226 HCC patients who underwent curative hepatectomy. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to evaluate its predic- tive value for tumor recurrence and survival of patients. the median follow-up period was 120 months. RESULtS： PtMA expression was observed in 162 （71.7%） of the 226 HCC patients and was significantly associated with higher Edmondson grade, microvascular invasion, intrahe- patic metastasis, higher American Joint Committee on Cancer （AJCC） t-stage, and lower albumin level. PtMA expression was an independent predictor of early recurrence （P=0.001）. PtMA expression showed an unfavorable influence on recurrence- free survival （RFS）（P〈0.001）. Subgroup analysis showed that among patients with tumor size _〈5.0 cm （140 patients）, patients at AJCC t-stage I （95 patients） and patients with a-fetoprotein ≤20 ng/mL （83 patients）, the differences in RFS between PtMA- positive and PtMA-negative groups were also statistically sig- nificant （P=0.017, P=0.002 and P=0.002, respectively）. In addi- tion, PtMA expression was an independent predictor of shorter RFS （P=0.011）. PtMA expression showed an unfavorable influ- ence on overall survival （P=0.014）, but was not an independent predictor of shorter overall survival （P=0.161）. CONCLUSIONS： PtMA protein expression might be a novel predictor of early recurrence and RFS in HCC patients, even those at early stage or with a-fetoprotein-negative after curative hep

Epidemiological Facies of Human Rabies Deaths in Côte d’Ivoire from 2016 to 2022

Introduction: Rabies is a highly fatal viral disease outside the post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP). Data from previous studies and reports from the rabies center show that cases of death from human rabies are regularly reported, despite training measures for health workers, awareness-raising and communities, and the availability of vaccines. Objectives: the aim of this study was to analyse the determinants of human rabies deaths in Côte d’Ivoire from 2016 to 2022. Method: A retrospective cross-sectional qualitative study was carried out from January to August 2023 on all the records of patients who died of human rabies at the treichville Rabies Center from 2016 to 2022. An analysis of the rabies center’s annual activity reports from 2016 to 2022 was also carried out in order to complete the information gathered from the files. Results: the socio-demographic characteristics showed that out of 148 deaths, children accounted for 47.97% (71) and 66.22% (98) of rabies deaths were male, with an M/F sex ratio of 1.96. In terms of clinical characteristics, in 97.30% (144) of cases, the deceased had presented with furious rabies, and analysis by the Pasteur Institute of Côte d’Ivoire laboratory confirmed 101 cases (92.66%) of human rabies. Geographical distribution showed that cases of human rabies were recorded in 56 health district, and 64% (94) of the deceased lived in rural areas. the main causes of the occurrence of rabies were essentially non-use of post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) and missed vaccination due to ignorance. Conclusion: In view of these results, control strategies and interventions need to be adapted to the epidemiological characteristics of the disease, using a community-based approach with a view to eliminating dog-transmitted rabies by 2030.

Loss of Aβ-nerve endings associated with the Merkel cell-neurite complex in the lesional oral mucosa epithelium of lichen planus and hyperkeratosis

the Merkel cell-neurite complex initiates the perception of touch and mediates Ap slowly adapting type I responses. Lichen planus is a chronic inflammatory autoimmune disease with t-cell-mediated inflammation, whereas hyperkeratosis is characterized with or without epithelial dysplasia in the oral mucosa. to determine the effects of lichen planus and hyperkeratosis on the Merkel cell-neurite complex, healthy oral mucosal epithelium and lesional oral mucosal epithelium of lichen planus and hyperkeratosis patients were stained by immunohistochemistry （the avidin-biotin-peroxidase complex and double immunofluorescence methods）using pan cytokeratin, cytokeratin 20 （K20, a Merkel cell marker）, and neurofilament 200 （NF200, a myelinated Aβ- and Aδ-nerve fibre marker） antibodies. N F200-immunoreactive （ir） nerve fibres in healthy tissues and in the lesional oral mucosa epithelium of lichen planus and hyperkeratosis were counted and statistically analysed. In the healthy oral mucosa, K20-positive Merkel cells with and without close association to the intraepithelial NF200-ir nerve fibres were detected. In the lesional oral mucosa of lichen planus and hyperkeratosis patients, extremely rare NF200-ir nerve fibres were detected only in the lamina propria. Compared with healthy tissues, lichen planus and hyperkeratosis tissues had significantly decreased numbers of NF200-ir nerve fibres in the oral mucosal epithelium. Lichen planus and hyperkeratosis were associated with the absence of Aβ-nerve endings in the oral mucosal epithelium. thus, we conclude that mechanosensation mediated by the Merkel cell-neurite complex in the oral mucosal epithelium is impaired in lichen planus and hvperkeratosis.

Pancreatic enzymes and abdominal adipose tissue distribution in new-onset prediabetes/diabetes after acute pancreatitis

BACKGROUND New-onset prediabetes/diabetes after acute pancreatitis(NODAP)is the most common sequela of pancreatitis,and it differs from type 2 prediabetes/diabetes mellitus(t2DM).AIM to study the associations between circulating levels of pancreatic amylase,pancreatic lipase,chymotrypsin and fat phenotypes in NODAP,t2DM,and *** Individuals with NODAP(n=30),t2DM(n=30),and sex-matched healthy individuals(n=30)were *** fat phenotypes(intra-pancreatic fat,liver fat,skeletal muscle fat,visceral fat,and subcutaneous fat)were determined using the same magnetic resonance imaging protocol and scanner magnet strength for all ***-way analysis of covariance,linear regression analysis,and relative importance analysis were *** Intra-pancreatic fat deposition(IPFD)was higher in NODAP(9.4%±1.8%)and t2DM(9.8%±1.1%)compared with healthy controls(7.8%±1.9%)after adjusting for covariates(P=0.003).Similar findings were observed in regards to visceral fat volume(P=0.005),but not subcutaneous fat volume,liver fat,or skeletal muscle *** IPFD(β=-2.201,P=0.023)and visceral fat volume(β=-0.004,P=0.028)were significantly associated with circulating levels of pancreatic amylase in NODAP,but not in t2DM or healthy *** the five fat phenotypes,IPFD explained the highest amount of variance in pancreatic amylase concentration(R2=15.3%out of 41.2%).None of the phenotypes contributed meaningfully to the variance in pancreatic lipase or *** Both NODAP and t2DM are characterized by increased IPFD and visceral fat ***,only NODAP is characterized by significant inverse associations between the two fat phenotypes and pancreatic amylase.

the superplasticity of AINp/6061Al composite, fabricated by powder metallurgy method and hot-rolled after extrusion, was investigated. the AINp/6061Al composite exhibits an m-value of 0.49 and a maximum elongation of 438% in the strain rates ranging hem 10-2-100s-1 and at temperatures from 823K to 893K. Diffirential scanning calorimeter was used to ascertain the possibility of any partial melting in the vicinity of optimum superplastic temperature. these results suggested that liquid phase existed where maximum elongation was obtained.

为了解决铝合金与高强钢材料之间连接困难的问题,保证铝合金与高强钢之间的连接质量,采用摩擦塞铆焊工艺实现了6061-t6铝合金和DP1470高强钢的连接,并通过对接头宏观形貌和微观组织特征的观察、接头力学性能的测试以及接头失效形式的对比,研究了摩擦塞铆焊所获接头连接性能的变化规律.结果表明,转速是影响焊接质量的重要因素.在焊接试验过程中,转速控制范围为5 000~8 000 r/min,接头的抗拉强度随转速的增加先升高后降低,当转速达到7 000 r/min时,接头所承受的剪切载荷最大,可以达到6.3 kN,此时得到的接头表面平整,无明显孔洞、裂纹等缺陷.铝合金板材在接头处发生断裂失效时,接头所能承受载荷相对较大,焊接质量较高.因此,铝合金和高强钢能够通过摩擦塞铆焊工艺实现高质量连接.

Curved copper nanowires-based robust flexible transparent electrodes via all-solution approach

Curved Cu nanowire (CCN)-based high-performance flexible transparent conductive electrodes (FtCEs) were fabricated via a fully solution-processed approach, involving synthesis, coating, patterning, welding, and transfer. Each step involved an innovative technique for completing the all-solution processes. the high-quality and well-dispersed CCNs were synthesized using a multi-polyol method through the synergistic effect of specific polyol reduction. to precisely control the optoelectrical properties of the FtCEs, the CCNs were uniformly coated on a polyimide (PI) substrate via a simple meniscus-dragging deposition method by tuning several coating parameters. We also employed a polyurethane (PU)-stamped patterning method to effectively produce 20 μm patterns on CCN thin films. the CCN thin films exhibited high electrical performance, which is attributed to the deeply percolated CCN network formed via a solvent-dipped welding method. Finally, the CCN thin films on the PI substrate were partially embedded and transferred to the PU matrix to reduce their surface roughness. through consecutive processes involving the proposed methods, a highly percolated CCN thin film on the PU matrix exhibited high optoelectrical performance (R s = 53.48 Ω/□ at t = 85.71%), excellent mechanical properties (R/R 0 ter the 10th repetition of tape peeling or 1,000 bending cycles), and a low root-mean-square surface roughness (R rms = 14.36 nm).

Absorption characteristics of new solvent based on a blend of AMP and 1,8-diamino-p-menthane for CO_2 absorption

Aqueous 1,8-diamino-p-menthane （KIER-C3） and commercially available amine solutions were tested for CO2 absorption. A 2-amino-2-methyl-1-propanol （AMP） solution with an addition of KIER-C3 showed 9.3% and 31.6% higher absorption rate for CO2 than the AMP solution with an addition of monoethanolamine （MEA） and ammonia （NH3）, respectively. the reaction rate constant for CO2 absorption by the AMP/KIER-C3 solution was determined by the following equation： k2,AMP/C3 = 7.702×106 exp （-2248.03/t）. A CO2 loading ratio of the AMP/KIER-C3 solution was also 2 and 3.4-times higher than that of the AMP/NH3 solution and the AMP/MEA solution, respectively. Based on the experimental results, KIER-C3 may be used as an excellent additive to increase CO2 absorption capability of AMP.
