Objective the primary objective was to investigate temporal trends and between-practice variability of paediatric test use in primary *** and analysis this was a descriptive study of population-based data from Clinical Practice Research Datalink Aurum primary care consultation records from 1 January 2007 to 31 December *** aged 0–15 who were registered to one of the eligible 1464 general practices and had a diagnostic test code in their clinical record were *** primary outcome measures were(1)temporal changes in test rates measured by the average annual percent change,stratified by test type,gender,age group and deprivation level and(2)practice variability in test use,measured by the coefficient of *** 14299598 diagnostic tests were requested over 27.8 million child-years of observation for 2542101 *** test use increased by 3.6%/year(95%CI 3.4 to 3.8%)from 399/1000 child-years to 608/1000 child-years,driven by increases in blood tests(8.0%/year,95%CI 7.7 to 8.4),females aged 11–15(4.0%/year,95%CI 3.7 to 4.3),and children from the most socioeconomically deprived group(4.4%/year,95%CI 4.1 to 4.8).tests subject to the greatest temporal increases were faecal calprotectin,fractional exhaled nitric oxide and vitamin *** classified as high-use and high-practice variability were iron studies,coeliac testing,vitamin B12,folate,and vitamin *** In this first nationwide study of paediatric test use in primary care,we observed significant temporal increases and practice variability in *** reflects inconsistency in practice and diagnosis rates and a scarcity of evidence-based *** test use generates more clinical activity with significant resource implications but conversely may improve clinical *** research should evaluate whether increased test use and variability are warranted by exploring test indications and test results and directly examine how increased test use impacts

the new independent solutions of the nonlinear differential equation with time-dependent coefficients (NDE-tC) are discussed, for the first time, by employing experimental device called a drinking bird whose simple back-and-forth motion develops into water drinking motion. the solution to a drinking bird equation of motion manifests itself the transition from thermodynamic equilibrium to nonequilibrium irreversible states. the independent solution signifying a nonequilibrium thermal state seems to be constructed as if two independent bifurcation solutions are synthesized, and so, the solution is tentatively termed as the bifurcation-integration solution. the bifurcation-integration solution expresses the transition from mechanical and thermodynamic equilibrium to a nonequilibrium irreversible state, which is explicitly shown by the nonlinear differential equation with time-dependent coefficients (NDE-tC). the analysis established a new theoretical approach to nonequilibrium irreversible states, thermomechanical dynamics (tMD). the tMD method enables one to obtain thermodynamically consistent and time-dependent progresses of thermodynamic quantities, by employing the bifurcation-integration solutions of NDE-tC. We hope that the basic properties of bifurcation-integration solutions will be studied and investigated further in mathematics, physics, chemistry and nonlinear sciences in general.

Aeromagnetic data over the Mamfe Basin have been processed. A regional magnetic gridded dataset was obtained from the total Magnetic Intensity (tMI) data grid using a 3 × 3 convolution (Hanning) filter to remove regional trends. Major similarities in magnetic field orientation and intensities were observed at identical locations on both the regional and tMI data grids. From the regional and tMI gridded datasets, the residual dataset was generated which represents the very shallow geological features of the basin. Processing this residual data grid using the Source Parameter Imaging (SPI) for magnetic depth suggests that the estimated depths to magnetic sources in the basin range from about 271 m to 3552 m. the highest depths are located in two main locations somewhere around the central portion of the study area which correspond to the area with positive magnetic susceptibilities, as well as the areas extending outwards across the eastern boundary of the study area. Shallow magnetic depths are prominent towards the NW portion of the basin and also correspond to areas of negative magnetic susceptibilities. the basin generally exhibits a variation in depth of magnetic sources with high, average and shallow depths. the presence of intrusive igneous rocks was also observed in this basin. this characteristic is a pointer to the existence of geologic resources of interest for exploration in the basin.

A thermoelectric generation Stirling engine (tEG-Stirling engine) is discussed by employing a low temperature Stirling engine and the dissipative equation of motion derived from the method of thermomechanical dynamics (tMD). the results and mechanism of axial flux electromagnetic induction (AF-EMI) are applied to a low temperature Stirling engine, resulting in a tEG-Stirling engine. the method of tMD produced thermodynamically consistent and time-dependent physical quantities for the first time, such as internal energy ℰ(t), thermodynamic work Wth(t), the total entropy (heat dissipation) Qd(t)and measure or temperature of a nonequilibrium state t˜(t). the tMD analysis produced a lightweight mechanical system of tEG-Stirling engine which derives electric power from waste heat of temperature (40˚Ct100˚C) by a thermoelectric conversion method. An optimal low rotational speed about 30θ′(t)/(2π)60(rpm) is found, applicable to devices for sustainable, clean energy technologies. the stability of a thermal state and angular rotations of tEG-Stirling engine are specifically shown by employing properties of nonequilibrium temperature t˜(t), which is also applied to study optimal fuel-injection and combustion timings of heat engines.

Variations in Soil Organic Matter Content in Cultivated and Uncultivated Calcareous Soils from the Mediterranean Island of Malta after 15 Years of Cultivation

the soils of Malta are calcareous and generally undeveloped. Organic matter (OM) in these soils is low and farmers are constantly urged to increase it. the objective of this study was to evaluate any temporal variation in soil OM after 15 years of cultivation, and determine whether soil series, soil depth, and cultivation influence variation. OM was determined in the topsoil and subsoil of 7 agricultural and 4 non-agricultural sites. the sites represented 7 different soil series that are present on the island. In sampling periods 1 (t = 0 years) and 2 (t =15 years), the OM content in the collective (all soil series) bulk (topsoil and subsoil) uncultivated soil was 3.9 % and 3.8 % respectively. this was significantly greater than that of the collective bulk cultivated soil (2.4% and 2.3%). the OM in the collective uncultivated topsoil was 5.4% and 5.2% in periods 1 and 2 and was significantly higher than that of the cultivated topsoil (2.5% in both periods). the OM content in the collective uncultivated subsoil was 2.3% and 2.5% in periods 1 and 2 respectively but only that measured in period 2 was significantly higher than that of the cultivated subsoil (2.2% in both periods). On an individual soil series basis, the OM in the uncultivated topsoils was significantly higher than that of their cultivated counterparts. the differences in the subsoils were not significant. Across the uncultivated soil series, OM was significantly higher in the topsoil than in the subsoil but in the cultivated soil series the differences between topsoil and subsoil were not significant. there was no significant difference in OM between the uncultivated soils of different series, but in the cultivated the OM content was higher in soils that were more mature. After 15 years, no significant change in OM occurred in both the collective cultivated and uncultivated bulk soils, the collective topsoil and subsoil, and in most of the individual series. the OM content of each soil series was also s

Cannabis sativa L. is used as fiber, food, and medicine in several countries. though it is illegal for recreational use in most of the world, there are some countries that have legalized production and sale. there is a lot of research on production of cannabis, but less so on storage technologies. Cannabis contains several high value compounds, such as cannabinoids and terpenoids, that are susceptible to degradation via light, temperature, and oxygen. Several studies have explored temperature and light, and industry has adjusted accordingly. However, less is known about oxygen-induced degradation. Biochemical studies have demonstrated oxidative degradation of high value compounds, and many producers use some form of modified atmospheric packaging (MAP) for storage. However, the efficacy of MAP is unclear. the objective of this paper is to review our current understanding of MAP in postharvest cannabis storage and identify avenues where additional research is needed.

the traditional thermoelectric energy conversion techniques are explained in detail in terms of the axial flux electromagnetic (AFE) and the radial flux electromagnetic (RFE) inductions, and applications to heat engines for the energy-harvesting technologies are discussed. the idea is induced by the analysis of thermomechanical dynamics (tMD) for a nonequilibrium irreversible thermodynamic system of heat engines (a drinking bird, a low temperature Stirling engine), resulting in thermoelectric energy generation different from conventional heat engines. the mechanism of thermoelectric energy conversion can be categorized as the axial flux generator (AFG) and the radial flux generator (RFG). the axial flux generator is helpful for low mechanoelectric energy conversion and activations of waste heat from macroscopic energy generators, such as wind, geothermal, thermal, nuclear power plants and heat-dissipation lines, and the device contributes to solving environmental problems to maintain clean and sustainable energy as one of the energy harvesting technologies.
