Ecological interactions between flowers and pollinators are all about timing. Flower opening/closing and scent emissions are largely synchronized with pollinator activity, and a circadian clock regulates these rhythms. However, whether the circadian clock increases a plant＇s reproductive success by regulating these floral rhythms remains untested. Flowers of Nicotiana attenuata, a wild tobacco, diurnally and rhythmically open, emit scent and move vertically through a 140° arc to interact with nocturnal hawkmoths. We tethered flowers to evaluate the importanceof flower positions for Manduca flower position dramatically sexta-mediated pollinations; nfluenced pollination. We examined the pollination success of phase-shifted flowers, silenced in circadian clock genes, NaZtL, NaLHY, and NatOCI, by RNAi. Circadian rhythms in N. attenuata flowers are responsible for altered seed set from outcrossed pollen.

Flowers are required for the Darwinian fitness of flowering plants, but flowers＇ advertisements for pollination services can attract florivores. Previous glasshouse work with Nicotiana attenuata revealed the role of jasmonate （JA） signaling in flower development, advertisement and defense. However, whether JA signaling mediates flowers＇ filtering of floral visitors in nature remained unknown. this field study revealed that silencing JA signaling resulted in flowers that produce less nectar and benzyl acetone, two pollinatorattractive traits. Meanwhile, flowers of defenseless plants were highly attacked by a suite of native herbivores, and damage to buds in native plants correlated negatively with their JA-lle levels.

AIM： to compare the effectiveness of intravitreal bevacizumab and subthreshold macular photocoagulation （SMP）, for the treatment of non-center involved diabetic macular edema （non-CI DME）. MEtHODS： Prospective, randomized, controlled clinical study included patients with type 2 diabetes, non-CI DME and best-corrected visual acuity （BCVA） of 0.30 logMAR or better. Each eye was randomized into three groups： group 1, monthly intravitreal bevacizumab; group 2, single SMP; group 3, single SMP and monthly bevacizumab. Main outcome measures were BCVA, and macular thickness measured with optical coherence tomography as macular central subfield thickness （CSt）, macular area of greater thickness （MAGt） and total macular volume （tMV）. Results were analyzed after 3mo. RESULtS： A total of 32 eyes were included. Group 3 improved in BCVA （0.19±0.16 to 0.12±0.14 logMAR; P=0.041） and in tMV （7.90±0.57 to 7.65±0.73 mm3; P=0.025）. Group 1 improved in MAGt （325±26.26 to 298.20±44.85 μm; P=0.022） and tMV （7.79±0.57 to 7.50±0.56 mm3, P=0.047）. Group 2 didn’t show significant improvement of any variable. CONCLUSION： the loading phase of bevacizumab as monotherapy or combined with SMP is superior to SMP as monotherapy in providing short-term visual and anatomical improvement in non-CI DME.

Pure *** sNbO3(KNN)and KNN doped with Lit(6%mole),Lat(1.66%,5%,6%mole),and ti+t(10%mole)were prepared by mixture of oxides using high-energy milling and conventional solid-state *** effects of the dopant on the physical properties of pure KNN have been evaluated based on the structural,ferroelectric,pyroelectric,and dielectric *** XRD measurements show that KNN pure sample contains a mixture of monoclinic and orthorhombic crystalline phases,with a slightly higher concentration of monoclinic *** contrast,all doped samples show a higher concentration of the orthorhombic phase,as well as the presence of a secondary phase(K6Nb10.8O3o),also detected by Raman *** samples with a higher concentration of this secondary phase,also present greater dielectric losses and lower values of remnant *** dielectric measurements allowed us to detect temperatures of structural transitions(orthorhombic-tetragonal,O-t)previous to the ferroelectric paraelectric transition(tetragonal-cubic,t-C),and also in this set of samples,a direct correlation was found between the values of remnant polarization and the corresponding pyroelectric signal response.

AIM to evaluate the real-world effectiveness of golimumab in ulcerative colitis(UC) and to identify predictors of *** We conducted an observational, prospective and multi-center study in UC patients treated with golimumab, from September 2014 to September 2015. Clinical activity was assessed at wk 0 and 14 with the physician's global clinical assessment(PGA) and the partial Mayo score. Colonoscopies and blood tests were performed, following daily-practice clinical criteria, and the results were recorded in an SPSS *** thirty-three consecutive patients with moderately to severely active UC were included. Among them, 54.5% were female and 42 years was the average age. thirty percent had left-sided UC(E2) and 70% had extensive UC(E3). All patients had an endoscopic Mayo score of 2 or 3 at baseline. twenty-seven point three percent were anti-tumor necrosis factor(tNF) treatment na?ve, whereas 72.7% had previously received infliximab and/or adalimumab. Sixty-nine point seven percent showed clinical response and were steroid-free at wk 14(a decrease from baseline in the partial Mayo score of at least 3 points). Based on PGA, the clinical remission and clinical response rates were 24% and 55% respectively. Withdrawal of corticosteroids was observed in 70.8% of steroid-dependent patients at the end of the study. three out of 10 clinical non-responders needed a colectomy. Mean fecal calprotectin value at baseline was 300 μg/g, and 170.5 μg/g at wk 14. Being anti-tNF treatment na?ve was a protection factor, which was related to better chances of reaching clinical remission. twenty-seven point three percent of the patients required treatment intensification at 14 wk of followup. Objective: to determine the association between the acute inflammatory markers and Diabetic Renal-Retinal Syndrome in our patients. Methods: A total of 44 patients were included in this transverse (cross sectional), observational, analytical, and comparative study. two groups of patients were created. Results: In patients with chronic renal failure, stages 3, 4, or 5 (scale 1 to 5) were identified and divided into two groups: Group I (Patients with concomitant diabetic retinopathy stabilized with photocoagulation) 22 patients. Group II (Patients with progression of retinopathy, after photocoagulation, in the form of intraocular bleeding) 22 patients. the number of patients with chronic renal failure in stage 3 was: Group I;16. In Group II;12 patients (OR: 1.0). Stage 4: Group I;4 patients. Group II: 3 patients (OR: 1.0, CI 95%;0.3843 - 2.021). Stage 5: Group I;2 patients. Group II;7 patients (OR: 1.8148, CI 95%;1.0448 - 3.1523;Chi-squared (x2) 2.7450, p = 0.097). t-test found statistical significance in Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR): p tric tests, C-reactive protein with binomial test showed p th U of Mann Whitney. Fetal tracheal occlusion (tO) was developed in an attempt to enhance prenatal lung growth and improve survival in fetuses with severe congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH). We conducted a randomized, controlled clinical trial in 24 fetuses with severe left CDH (liver herniated into the thorax and low lungto-head ratio) to compare survival after endoscopic fetal tO vs standard perinatal care (control) and prospectively followed up the 16 survivors (9 control, 7 tO) to compare neurodevelopmental, respiratory, surgical, growth, and nutritional outcomes. At 1 and 2 years old, subjects underwent evaluation consisting of medical and neurological history and physical, developmental testing, nutritional assessment, oxygen saturation and pulmonary function testing, chest radiograph, and echocardiogram. Growth and developmental measures were corrected for prematurity. Data were analyzed by Mann-Whitney rank sum test, Fisher’ s exact test, and logistic and linear regression. Infants with tO were significantly more premature at birth (control vs tO, 37.4 ± 1.0 vs 31.1 ± 1.7 weeks; P th failure (z score for weight th groups at 1 year of age (control vs tO, 56% vs 86% ; P = .31). there was considerable catch-up growth by age 2 years (growth failure: control vs tO, 22% vs 33% ; P =.19). there were no differences in other growth parameters. there were also no differences in neurodevelopmental outcome at 1 and 2 years. Supplemental oxygen at hospital discharge was a significant predictor of worse neurodevelopmental outcome at 1 and 2 years old (P =.05 and P =.02, respectively). Hearing loss requiring amplification has been diagnosed in 44% of the group (control vs tO, 44% vs 43% ; P = 1.0). In this group of infants with severe CDH, there were no differences in outcome at 2 years old despite significant prematurity in the tO group. Purpose: the aim of this study was to determine if patients are in remission or weaning off medication after thymectomy for myasthenia gravis (MG) and to examine the thoracoscopic versus open approaches. Methods: A retrospective review of all patients who underwent thymectomy for MG at a tertiary referral center between 1992 and 2004 (N = 14). Six patients (42.9%) underwent thoracoscopic resection. Eight patients underwent open resection; 5 (35.7%) had median sternotomy and 3 (21.4%) by transcervical approaches. Follow-up was obtained in 12 (85.7%) of 14 patients by both chart review and telephone. the mean follow-up was 43.0 months (range, 4-111 months). Statistical significance was determined by Student’s t test or Fisher’s Exact test. Results: the thoracoscopic group had a mean operating time of 138.8 minutes compared with 139.8 minutes in the open group (P = .9). the thoracoscopic group had a mean estimated blood loss of 7.5 mL compared with 52.5 mL in the open group (P = .02). the mean length of stay for the thoracoscopic group was 1.5 days (range, 1-2 days) and was 10.6 days (range, 3-41 days) in the open group (P = .13). three (60%) of 5 patients were entirely off medication in the thoracoscopic group at the time of follow-up compared with 3 (50%) of 6 patients in the open group (P = 1.0). In the thoracoscopic group, 5 (83.3%) of 6 were in class 1 to 3 of the DeFilippi classification (compl-ete remission or improved with decreased medication requirements). One patient had no change in symptoms (class 4). In the open group, 5 (83.3%) of 6 were classified as DeFilippi 1 to 3 at the time of follow-up, and one patient had worsening symptoms (class 5).
