the paper introduces a novel approach for detecting structural damage in full-scale structures using surrogate models generated from incomplete modal data and deep neural networks(DNNs).A significant challenge in this field is the limited availability of measurement data for full-scale structures,which is addressed in this paper by generating data sets using a reduced finite element(FE)model constructed by SAP2000 software and the MAtLAB programming *** surrogate models are trained using response data obtained from the monitored structure through a limited number of measurement *** proposed approach involves training a single surrogate model that can quickly predict the location and severity of damage for all potential *** achieve the most generalized surrogate model,the study explores different types of layers and hyperparameters of the training algorithm and employs state-of-the-art techniques to avoid overfitting and to accelerate the training *** approach’s effectiveness,efficiency,and applicability are demonstrated by two numerical *** study also verifies the robustness of the proposed approach on data sets with sparse and noisy measured ***,the proposed approach is a promising alternative to traditional approaches that rely on FE model updating and optimization algorithms,which can be computationally *** approach also shows potential for broader applications in structural damage detection.

Free vibration analysis of laminated FG-CNt reinforced composite beams using finite element method

In the present study, the free vibration of laminated functionally graded carbon nanotube reinforced composite beams is analyzed. the laminated beam is made of perfectly bonded carbon nanotubes reinforced composite (CNtRC) layers. In each layer, single-walled carbon nanotubes are assumed to be unifonnly distributed (UD) or functionally graded (FG) distributed along the thickness direction. Effective material properties of the two-phase composites, a mixture of carbon nanotubes (CNts) and an isotropic polymer, are calculated using the extended nile of mixture. the first-order shear deformation theory is used to formulate a governing equation for predicting free vibration of laminated functionally graded carbon nanotubes reinforced composite (FG?CNtRC) beams. the governing equation is solved by the finite element method with various boundary conditions. Several numerical tests are perfbnned to investigate the influence of the CNts volume fractions, CNts distributions, CNts orientation angles, boundary conditions, length-to-thickness ratios and the numbers of layers on the frequencies of the laminated FG-CNtRC beams. Moreover, a laminated composite beam combined by various distribution types of CNts is also studied.

this paper proposes a new Deep Feed-forward Neural Network(DFNN)approach for damage detection in functionally graded carbon nanotube-reinforced composite(FG-CNtRC)*** the proposed approach,the DFNN model is developed based on a data set containing 20000 samples of damage scenarios,obtained via finite element(FE)simulation,of the FG-CNtRC *** elemental modal kinetic energy(MKE)values,calculated from natural frequencies and translational nodal displacements of the structures,are utilized as input of the DFNN model while the damage locations and corresponding severities are considered as *** state-of-the art Exponential Linear Units(ELU)activation function and the Adamax algorithm are employed to train the DFNN ***,in order to enhance the performance of the DFNN model,the mini-batch and early-stopping techniques are applied to the training process.A trial-and-error procedure is implemented to determine suitable parameters of the network such as the number of hidden layers and the number of neurons in each *** accuracy and capability of the proposed DFNN model are illustrated through two distinct configurations of the CNt-fibers constituting the FG-CNtRC plates including uniform distribution(UD)and functionally graded-V distribution(FG-VD).Furthermore,the performance and stability of the DFNN model with the consideration of noise effects on the input data are also *** results indicate that the proposed DFNN model is able to give sufficiently accurate damage detection outcomes for the FG-CNtRC plates for both cases of noise-free and noise-influenced data.

Optimization of buckling load for laminated composite plates using adaptive Kriging-improved PSO:A novel hybrid intelligent method

An effective hybrid optimization method is proposed by integrating an adaptive Kriging(A-Kriging)into an improved partial swarm optimization algorithm(IPSO)to give a so-called A-Kriging-IPSO for maximizing the buckling load of laminated composite plates(LCPs)under uniaxial and biaxial *** this method,a novel iterative adaptive Kriging model,which is structured using two training sample sets as active and adaptive points,is utilized to directly predict the buckling load of the LCPs and to improve the efficiency of the optimization *** active points are selected from the initial data set while the adaptive points are generated using the radial random-based convex *** cell-based smoothed discrete shear gap method(CS-DSG3)is employed to analyze the buckling behavior of the LCPs to provide the response of adaptive and input data *** buckling load of the LCPs is maximized by utilizing the IPSO *** demonstrate the efficiency and accuracy of the proposed methodology,the LCPs with different layers(2,3,4,and 10 layers),boundary conditions,aspect ratios and load patterns(biaxial and uniaxial loads)are *** results obtained by proposed method are in good agreement with the literature results,but with less computational *** applying adaptive radial Kriging model,the accurate optimal resultsebased predictions of the buckling load are obtained for the studied LCPs.

Homogenization is a promising approach to capture the behavior of complex structures like corrugated panels. It enables us to replace high-cost shell models with stiffness-equivalent orthotropic plate alternatives. Many homogenization models for corrugated panels of different shapes have been proposed. However, there is a lack of investigations for verifying their accuracy and reliability. In addition, in the recent trend of development of smoothed finite element methods, the cell-based smoothed three-node Mindlin plate element (CS-MIN3) based on the first-order shear deformation theory (FSDt) has been proposed and successfully applied to many analyses of plate and shell structures. thus, this paper further extends the CS-MIN3 by integrating itself with homogenization models to give homogenization methods. In these methods, the equivalent extensional, bending, and transverse shear stiftriess components which constitute the equivalent orthotropic plate models are represented in explicit analytical expressions. Using the results of ANSYS and ABAQUS shell simulations as references, some numerical examples are conducted to verify the accuracy and reliability of the homogenization methods for static analyses of trapezoidally and sinusoidally corrugated panels.
