Cremaster muscle thickening: the anatomic difference in men with testicular retraction due to hyperactive cremaster muscle reflex

the objective was to assess whether men suffering from testicular retraction secondary to hyperactive cremaster muscle reflex havean anatomic difference in the thickness of the cremaster muscle in comparison to men who do not have retraction. From march2021 to December 2021, 21 men underwent microsurgical subinguinal cremaster muscle release (mSCmR) on 33 spermatic cordunits, as 12 of them had bilateral surgery, at Surgicare of South Austin Ambulatory Surgery Center in Austin, tX, USA. Duringthat same time frame, 36 men underwent subinguinal microsurgical varicocele repair on 41 spermatic cord units, as 5 werebilateral for infertility. the thickness of cremaster muscles was measured by the operating surgeon in men undergoing mSCmRand varicocele repair. Comparison was made between the cremaster muscle thickness in men with testicular retraction due toa hyperactive cremaster muscle reflex undergoing mSCmR and the cremaster muscle thickness in men undergoing varicocelerepair for infertility with no history of testicular retraction, which served as an anatomic control. the mean cremaster musclethickness in men who underwent mSCmR was significantly greater than those undergoing varicocele repair for infertility, witha mean cremaster muscle thickness of 3.9 (standard deviation [s.d.]: 1.2) mm vs 1.0 (s.d.: 0.4) mm, respectively. men withtesticular retraction secondary to a hyperactive cremaster muscle reflex demonstrate thicker cremaster muscles than controls,those undergoing varicocele repair. An anatomic difference may be a beginning to understanding the pathology in men whostruggle with testicular retraction.

We describe a new cat snake species of the genus Boiga from the Nusa tenggara Islands, Indonesia. the new species is superficially similar to Boiga cynodon, as it was identified previously. It differs from the latter species by the following combination of characteristics: only reaching half of the size of B. cynodon(up to 1250 mm SVL), higher number of dorsal scales; lower ventral and subcaudal counts and having only a very fine postorbital stripe.

Regolith Geochemistry and mineralogy of the mbalam Itabirite-Hosted Iron Ore District, South Eastern Cameroon

mbalam is a major emerging iron ore district in Cameroon. the regolith over the mbalam itabirite, consists of relict, erosion and depositional units. Itabirite rock fabric is preserved in the relict regolith, the erosion unit is marked by erosion of the carapace cap regolith, with the depositional unit dominated by canga (loose fragments of hematite and/or itabirite cemented by goethite) or loose scree. Fe concentration increases from average of 46.18 wt% in the depositional soil material to as much as 79.08 wt% in the relict regolith regime with variation due to supergene weathering. Fe is the least mobile of the major elements, and the Fe oxides become significant phases and control the distributions of many elements. Absorption of P by iron oxides or oxyhydroxides appears to be the major mechanism of P retention in the different regolith environment. Au dispersion in the weathering profile occurs by two possible mechanisms (mechanical and hydromorphic) and it distribution is sporadic. Zr maintains a positive correlation with Al and ti indicating extensive chemical weathering in the source area and resulting in a relative concentration of those residual elements. the weathered material show relatively high ΣREE;this is due to upward remobilisation from the lower primary itabirite, and the downward leaching of the upper mineralisation horizons by the descending epigenetic solutions.

Soil microbial Biomass After three-Year Consecutive Composted tannery Sludge Amendment

Brazilian industry produces huge amounts of tannery sludge as residues,which is often disposed by landfilling or land ***,consecutive amendment of such composted industrial wastes may cause shifts in soil microbial biomass(SmB) and enzyme *** study aimed to evaluate SmB and enzyme activity after 3-year consecutive composted tannery sludge(CtS) amendment in tropical sandy *** amounts of CtS(0.0,2.5,5.0,10.0,and 20.0 t ha^(-1)) were applied to a sandy *** C and N contents of SmB,basal and substrate-induced respiration,respiratory quotient(qCO_2),and enzyme activities were determined in the soil samples collected after CtS amendment for 60 d at the third *** 3 years,significant changes were found in soil microbial properties in response to different CtS amounts *** organic matter and Cr contents significantly increased with increasing CtS *** and soil respiration peaked following amendment with 10.0 and 20.0 t ha-1 of CtS,respectively,while qCO_2was not significantly affected by CtS ***,soil enzyme activity decreased significantly with increasing CtS *** CtS amendment for 3 years showed inconsistent and contrasting effects on SmB and enzyme *** decrease in soil enzyme activities was proportional to a substantial increase in soil Cr concentration,with the latter exceeding the permitted concentrations by more than ***,our results suggest that a maximum CtS quantity of 5.0 t ha^(-1) can be applied annually to tropical sandy soil,without causing potential risks to SmB and enzyme activity.

自 1976 年以来,日本核废料管理基金会与研究中心(RWmC)一直在进行核废料处置的研究。最近,RWmC非常关注核废料处置库的监测、遥控以及现场勘查技术等重要的社会公众与技术问题。其中,处置库溢出气体是一项重要的安全可靠性评估项目。这项名为“工程屏障的气体渗透试验”(Gmt)的研究是在瑞士 Nagra 的 Grimsel现场实验室进行的。Gmt 集中研究在粮仓形的处置库中由核废料产生的气体在工程屏障中的渗透问题。在 Grimsel现场,一个按比例缩小的工程屏障库由一个具有透气孔的混凝土仓和砂–膨润土缓冲材料组成,缓冲材料被放置在一个专门建造的洞室中。混凝土仓直径为 2.5 m,高为 2.5 m,放置在直径为 4 m 的从上到下开挖而成的竖井中。在工程屏障饱和及水渗透试验之后,气体分两个阶段被注入地窖中。气体第一次被注入之后,重复进行水渗透试验,以便观察工程屏障库的变化。第二次气体注入的时候,在工程屏障及岩石圈中采用一种可以多点取样的鸡尾酒气体跟踪器。在气体注入之后,小心挖掘出工程屏障库,然后用各种方法来进行鉴定,并采用实验室以及建模程序来进行现场的模拟研究。

Challenging the Expiry Dates of two mycotoxins Standards: Afla and Ochra A

Objectives: to challenge the expiry dates of low concentration high purity mycotoxins standards. Literature Review: Aflatoxins (AFs) and Ochratoxin A (OtA) are persistent mycotoxins with adverse effects on humans. mycotoxins standards are purchased to determine mycotoxin concentrations in food and may be stocked in some laboratories beyond expiry dates causing laboratories financial losses. methods: Certified mycotoxins standards were purchased over the years from the same supplier at times and at other times from two different suppliers for quality control purposes. For AFs, six chromatographic runs for each of the mycotoxins standards were done to compare the difference among these standards having the following expiry dates (2008, 2012, 2013 and 2018). AFs standards purchased/obtained from two different suppliers in 2016 and expiring in 2018 were also compared. For OtA, the difference of concentration obtained between two years (2010 and 2018) was tested. All samples were run on a HPLC equipped with a fluorescence detector. Linearity of calibration curves and the points of lowest detection were determined for AFs components and for OtA from the unexpired mycotoxins standards. Results: At a 0.05 significance level and using non parametric tests, the statistical test revealed a p of 0.166, 0.153, 0.358 and 0.03 for B1, G1, B2 and G2 respectively among years for standards from same supplier and 0.037, 0.109, 0.182 and 0.182 for B1, G1, B2 and G2 respectively for unexpired standards from two different suppliers. For OtA, a p of 0.109 was obtained for standards of different expiry dates purchased from different suppliers. Conclusion: High purity low concentration mycotoxin standards purchased a decade ago (i.e. expired) did not differ from those purchased this current year (still valid). Hence, the expiry date can be renewed reducing the laboratories expenses. manufacturers are urged to reconsider the expiry dates.

Growth depression of Rosa plants at sites previously used to cultivate the same or closely related species is a typical symptom of rose replant disease(RRD).Currently,limited information is available on the causes and the etiology of RRD compared to apple replant disease(ARD).thus,this study aimed at analyzing growth characteristics,root morphology,and root metabolites,as well as microbial communities in the rhizosphere of the susceptible rootstock Rosa corymbifera‘Laxa’grown in RRD-affected soil from two sites(Heidgraben and Sangerhausen),either untreated or disinfected byγ-*** a greenhouse bioassay,plants developed significantly more biomass in theγ-irradiated than in the untreated soils of both *** plant metabolites detected in ***‘Laxa’roots were site-and *** aloesin was recorded in significantly higher concentrations in untreated than inγ-irradiated soils from Heidgraben,the concentrations of phenylalanine were significantly lower in roots from untreated soil of both *** microbial communities of 8-week-old plants were studied by sequencing of 16S rRNA,ItS,and cox gene fragments amplified from total community *** by microscopic observations,sequences affiliated to the bacterial genus Streptomyces and the fungal genus Nectria were identified as potential causal agents of RRD in the soils *** relative abundance of oomycetes belonging to the genus Pythiogeton showed a negative correlation to the growth of the ***,the RRD symptoms,the effects of soil treatments on the composition of the rhizosphere microbial community revealed striking similarities to findings related to ARD.
