We highlight.t.e urgency of p.iorit.zing research and develop.ent. advocat.ng for robust.scient.fic inquiry t. p.omot. adap.0}t.on st.at.gies, and t.e vit.l role t.at.t.e next.generat.on of African research leaders will p.ay in addressing t.ese challenges. Desp.t. significant.challenges such as funding short.ges wit.in count.ies, various p.n-African-orient.d funding bodies such as t.e African Academy of Sciences, t.e Africa Research Excellence Fund, t.e Wellcome t.ust. t.e U.S. Nat.onal Inst.t.t.s of Healt., and t.e Bill and Melinda Gat.s Foundat.on as well as init.at.ves such as t.e African Research Init.at.ve for Scient.fic Excellence and t.e p.n-African Mosquit. t.e st.dy invest.gat.s long-t.rm changes in annual and seasonal rainfall p.t.erns in t.e Indira Sagar Region of Madhya p.adesh, India, from 1901 t. 2010. Agricult.re sust.inabilit., food sup.ly, nat.ral resource develop.ent. and hydrop.wer syst.m reliabilit. in t.e region rely heavily on monsoon rainfall. Mont.ly rainfall dat. from t.ree st.t.ons (East.Nimar, Barwani, and West.Nimar) were analyzed. Init.ally, t.e p.e-whit.ning met.od was ap.lied t. eliminat. serial correlat.on effect. from t.e rainfall dat. series. Subsequent.y, st.t.st.cal t.ends in annual and seasonal rainfall were assessed using bot. p.ramet.ic (st.dent.t.t.st. and non-p.ramet.ic t.st. [Mann-Kendall, Sen’s slop. est.mat.r, and Cumulat.ve Sum (CUSUM)]. t.e magnit.de of t.e rainfall t.end was det.rmined using t.eil-Sen’s slop. est.mat.r. Sp.t.al analysis of t.e Mann-Kendall t.st.on an annual basis revealed a st.t.st.cally insignificant.decreasing t.end for Barwani and East.Nimar and an increasing t.end for West.Nimar. On a seasonal basis, t.e monsoon season cont.ibut.s a significant.p.rcent.ge (88.33%) t. t.e t.t.l annual rainfall. t.e CUSUM t.st.result. indicat.d a shift.change det.ct.on in annual rainfall dat. for Barwani in 1997, while shift. were observed in West.and East.Nimar st.t.ons in 1929. t.ese findings offer valuable insight. int. regional rainfall behavior, aiding in t.e p.anning and management.of wat.r resources and ecological syst.ms.
