Comparison of magnitude and summated vector mean of surgically induced astigmatism vector according to incision site after phakic intraocular lens implantation

Background:to compare the arithmetic mean(M-SiA)and the summated vector mean of surgically induced astigmatism(SVM-SiA)according to the incision site after phakic intraocular lens(Visian implantable collamer lens(iCL),StAAR Surgical)***:this study comprised 121 eyes of 121 consecutive patients undergoing iCL surgery through a 3.0-mm temporal or superior clear corneal *** magnitude and the axis of corneal astigmatism preoperatively and 3 months postoperatively were measured using an automated *** M-SiA and the SVM-SiA were determined according to the incision ***:the magnitude of corneal astigmatism significantly increased from 1.23±0.59 D preoperatively to 1.46±0.72 D postoperatively in the temporal incision group(Wilcoxon signed-rank test,Pt it significantly decreased from 1.09±0.36 D preoperatively to 0.86±0.41 D postoperatively in the superior incision group(Pthe M-SiA was 0.48±0.30 D,and the SVM-SiA was 0.23±0.52 D at a meridian of 82°in the temporal incision *** M-SiA was 0.57±0.30 D,and the SVM-SiA was 0.47±0.45 D at a meridian of 1°in the superior incision ***:iCL implantation induces the M-SiA by approximately 0.5 D,but the SVM-SiA decreased to 50%and 80%of the M-SiA in magnitude through temporal and superior incisions,*** direction of the SVM-SiA showed a tendency toward corneal flattening to the incisional *** should be noted that the M-SiA is somewhat different from the SVM-SiA according to the incision site.

CREB-binding proteins (CBP) as a transcriptional coactivator of GAtA-2

the GAtA family consists of six members, GAtA 1-6. in this study, we focused on GAtA-2, which is expressed predominantly in hematopoietic progenitor cells and plays the key role in keeping these cells in the undifferentiated status. CREB-binding proteins (CBP) are essential transcriptional coacti- vators for a large number of regulated DNA-binding transcription factors, including GAtA-1. But there have been no reports on whether CBP is still a co-activator of GAtA-2. Here, we used the immunopre- cipitation and pull-down experiments to show that the GAtA-2 and CBP were physically binding to- gether, and clarified the binding sites CH1, CH3 , CH452 and Ct1430 in CBP and N-finger, C-finger and N-C-finger in GAtA-2. Luciferase assay results in our experiment indicated that CBP could increase GAtA-2 transcriptional activity in the dose-dependent manner. GAtA-1 is mainly expressed in differen- tiated hematopoietic cells, but still has overlap expression with GAtA-2. CBP is a coactivator of GAtA-2 and GAtA-1. the investigation on the mechanism that could decide whether CBP binds to GAtA-2 to keep hematopoietic cells in the progenitor status or to GAtA-1 to start differentiation will be a very in- teresting and very meaningful project in the near future.

Aims Subalpine coniferous species are distributed over a wide range of elevations in which they must contend with stressful conditions,such as high elevations and extended periods of *** evergreen coniferous species,Abies veitchii and Abies mariesii,dominate at low and high elevations,respectively,in the subalpine zone,central *** aim of this study is to examine the effects of leaf age,elevation and light conditions on photosynthetic rates through changes in morphological and physiological leaf traits in the two *** We here examined effects of leaf age,elevation and light conditions on photosynthesis,and leaf traits in *** and *** of the two conifers were sampled in the understory and canopy gaps at their lower(1600 m)and upper(2300 m)distribution *** Findings the two species showed similar responses to leaf age and different responses to elevation and light conditions in photosynthesis and leaf *** maximum photosynthetic rate of *** is correlated negatively with leaf mass per area(LMA)and non-structural carbohydrate(NSC)*** increased at high elevations in the two species,whereas NSC concentrations increased only in ***,the maximum photosynthetic rate of *** decreased at high ***,maximum photosynthetic rates correlate positively with nitrogen concentration in both *** the understory,leaf nitrogen concentrations decreased and increased in *** and ***,*** decreased and the chlorophyll-to-nitrogen ratio increased in understory conditions only for ***,suggesting it has a higher light-capture efficiency in dark conditions than does *** study concluded that *** has more shade-tolerant photosynthetic and leaf traits and its photosynthetic rate is less affected by elevation compared with ***,allowing *** to survive in the understory and to dominate at high elevations.

ZnCl2 Enhanced Acid Hydrolysis of Pretreated Corncob for Glucose Production:Kinetics,thermodynamics and Optimization Analysis

the biomass of agricultural wastes as a source of fermentable sugars for biofuels production will address the food security and environmental preservation *** wastes are rich in lignocellulosic materials which can be hydrolyzed into fermentable ***,low sugar yield and high energy consumption are some of the challenges faced in the process of *** study investigated the low-cost corncob substrate for glucose production by dilute sulphuric acid hydrolysis in the presence of ZnCl_(2) at temperatures below 100℃after pretreatment with 10%*** dependent hydrolysis data were analyzed by Saeman model,thermodynamic parameters were obtained using Erying and Arrhenius equations while Box-Behnken model(Design Expert 6.0 version)was used for experimental *** the substrate concentration increased from 50 mg/L to 150 mg/L,glucose yield increased from 10.4 mg/g to 14.6 mg/g for pretreated corncob while an increase from 3.4 mg/g to 8.6 mg/g was noted for untreated *** hydrolysis rate constant was two orders of magnitude higher than the degradation rate *** parameters revealed endothermic process with positive Gibb’s free energy of hydrolysis having average values of 84.76 kJ/mol and 79.87 kJ/mol for pretreated and untreated samples *** optimum yield from the model was found to be 177.44 mg/g with 3.94%H_(2)SO_(4) and 0.43 mol/L ZnCl_(2) for 200 g/L compared with optimum yield of 46.37 mg/g obtainable without ZnCl_(2).the results of this study showed that the alkaline pretreatment of corncob increased the accessibility of cellulose from the solid fraction and increase glucose production.

the minimization of the profit function with respect to the decision variables is very important for the decision makers in the oil field *** this paper,a novel approach of the improved tabu search algorithm has been employed to solve a large scale problem in the crude oil refinery *** problem involves 44 variables,36 constraints,and four decision variables which represent four types of crude oil *** decision variables have been modeled in the form of fuzzy linear programming *** vagueness factor in the decision variables is captured by the nonlinear modified S-curve membership function.A recursive improved tabu search has been used to solve this fuzzy optimization *** improved results are obtained for the optimal profit function and optimal solution for four crude *** accuracy of constraints satisfaction and the quality of the solutions are achieved successfully.

On the pressure and stress singularities induced by steady flows of incompressible viscous fluids

Design for structural integrity requires an appreciation of where stress singularities can occur in structural configurations. While there is a rich literature devoted to the identification of such singular behavior in solid mechanics, to date there has been relatively little explicit identification of stress singularities caused by fluid flows. in this study, stress and pressure singularities induced by steady flows of viscous incompressible fluids are asymptotically identified. this is done by taking advantage of an earlier result that the Navier-Stokes equations are locally governed by Stokes flow in angular corners. Findings for power singularities are confirmed by developing and using an analogy with solid mechanics. this analogy also facilitates the identification of flow-induced log singularities. Both types of singularity are further confirmed for two global configurations by applying convergence-divergence checks to numerical results. Even though these flow-induced stress singularities are analogous to singularities in solid mechanics, they nonetheless render a number of structural configurations singular that were not previously appreciated as such from identifications within solid mechanics alone.

An ionospheric heating experiment involving an O mode pump wave was carried out at European incoherent Scatter Scientific Association site in troms？. the observation of the ultra high frequency radar illustrates the systematic variations of the enhanced ion line and plasma line in altitude and intensity as a function of the pump frequency. the analysis shows that those altitude variations are due to the thermal effect, and the intensity variations of the enhanced ion line are dependent on whether or not the enhanced ion acoustic wave satisfy the Bragg condition of radar. Moreover, a prediction that if the enhancement in electron temperature is suppressed,those systematic variations will be absent, is given.

A thin organic film of p-type semiconducting copper phthalocynanine (CuPc) was deposited by vacuum evaporation on an n-type GaAs single-crystal semiconductor substrate. the fabricated Ag/p-CuPc/n-GaAs/Ag sensor was carried through an ageing process to stabilize the parameters. Voltage-current characteristics and photoelectrical response of the sensor were investigated at a wide temperature range of 82 to 350 K. Photoelectric characteristics were measured under non-modulated filament-lamp illumination. it was observed that such sensor parameters as rectification ratio,threshold voltage,junction,shunt and series resistances,open-circuit voltage and short circuit current are temperature-dependent. it was found that wide-range voltage-current characteristics of the sensor may be de-scribed similarly to that of a Schottky barrier diode. Using the experimental data on voltage-current characteristics and absorbance of the CuPc films,the energy-band diagram of the p-CuPc/n-GaAs heterojunction was developed. it was shown that data obtained from simulation of an equivalent circuit of photoelectric sensor agreed with experimental results.

Baesd on the survey in 1997 fiscal year, we have been making a further survey and study together with 中国石油(Petro China) at Liaohe Refinery since 1998 fiscal year, aiming at the transfer of Japanese waste water treating technologies to China.　　Scope is as follows:　　（1） Demonstration of a new waste water treating technology, a kind of biological treating methods (Fluidized bed biological treatment), to eliminate phenols in FCCU effluent.　　（2） Recommendation of eliminating pollutant and reducing total effluent by improving the operation.　　1　Fluidized bed biological treatment1.1　What is fluidized bed biological treatment　　Fluidized bed biological treatment is the process to treat waste water as follows:　　(1) to put biologically inert granular matters (fluidized carrier) into an aeration tank;　　(2) Homogeneously and entirely to fluidize the particles in the tank to form highly active biofilm on the surface of each particle;　　(3) to contact organic substances with these microorganisms to purify the waste water.　　the surface area of the particle per unit volume is about ten times as large as that in conventional biofilm treatment process. in addition, no blockade of the filler (carrier) may be caused. Accordingly, volumetric loading of the aeration tank can be improved to attain highly efficient treatment.

Natural convection of an alumina-water nanofluid inside an inclined wavy-walled cavity with a non-uniform heating using tiwari and Das' nanofluid model

the present study is devoted to numerical analysis of natural convective heat transfer and fluid flow of alumina-water nanofluid in an inclined wavy-walled cavity under the effect of non-uniform heating. A single-phase nanofluid model with experimental correlations for the nanofluid viscosity and thermal conductivity has been included in the mathematical model. the considered governing equations formulated in dimensionless stream function, vorticity, and temperature have been solved by the finite difference method. the cavity inclination angle and irregular walls(wavy and undulation numbers)are very good control parameters for the heat transfer and fluid flow. Nowadays, optimal parameters are necessary for the heat transfer enhancement in different practical applications. the effects of the involved parameters on the streamlines and isotherms as well as on the average Nusselt number and nanofluid flow rate have been analyzed. it has been found that the heat transfer rate and fluid flow rate are non-monotonic functions of the cavity inclination angle and undulation number.
