Development of a Bias Compensating Q-Learning Controller for a Multi-Zone HVAC Facility

We present the development of a bias compensating reinforcement learning(RL)algorithm that optimizes thermal comfort(by minimizing tracking error)and control utilization(by penalizing setpoint deviations)in a multi-zone heating,ventilation,and air-conditioning(HVAC)lab facility subject to unmeasurable disturbances and unknown *** is shown that the presence of unmeasurable disturbance results in an inconsistent learning equation in traditional RL controllers leading to parameter estimation bias(even with integral action support),and in the extreme case,the divergence of the learning *** demonstrate this issue by applying the popular Q-learning algorithm to linear quadratic regulation(LQR)of a multi-zone HVAC environment and showing that,even with integral support,the algorithm exhibits bias issue during the learning phase when the HVAC disturbance is unmeasurable due to unknown heat gains,occupancy variations,light sources,and outside weather *** address this difficulty,we present a bias compensating learning equation that learns a lumped bias term as a result of disturbances(and possibly other sources)in conjunction with the optimal control *** results show that the proposed scheme not only recovers the bias-free optimal control parameters but it does so without explicitly learning the dynamic model or estimating the disturbances,demonstrating the effectiveness of the algorithm in addressing the above challenges.

Approach to pseudomyxoma peritonei

Pseudomyxoma peritonei(PMP) is a mucinous tumour of the appendix that spreads into the peritoneal cavity in the form of gelatinous deposits. The incidence of PMP is believed to be approximately 1-3 out of a million per year. Nonetheless, due to its indolent nature, it is usually discovered at an advanced stage and severely impacts quality of life. Curative treatment for PMP is complete cytoreductive surgery(CRS) with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy(HIPEC). An extensive literature review was conducted searching EMBASE, MEDLINE, Pub Med, and Google Scholar databases for PMP in aims to delineate a clinical approach to diagnosis and treatment. Literature was limited to the years 2007-2018. We found the 5-year overall survival with CRS and HIPEC estimated to be between 23%-82% and rates of major complications as high as 24%. Therefore, it is important to appropriately stage and select patients that should undergo CRS with HIPEC. Modalities like MDCT radiological scores have been shown to have sensitivity and specificity of 94% and 81%, respectively, in being able to predict resectability and survival. Despite treatment, the disease often recurs. Tumor markers have significant potential for establishing prognosis preoperatively, and this paper will review the most recent evidence in support of them.

The fatigue life and reliability of wrought carbon steel castings produced with an optimized mold design are predicted using a finite element method integrated with reliability *** optimization of the mold is carried out using MAGMASoft mainly based on porosity reduction as a *** validating the initial mold design with experimental data,a spring flap,a common component of an automotive suspension system is designed and optimized followed by fatigue life prediction based on simulation using *** taking into consideration the variation in both stress and strength,the stress-strength model is used to predict the reliability of the component under fatigue *** typical loading conditions of 70 kN,the analysis showed that 95%of the steel spring flaps achieve infinite ***,under maximum loading conditions of 90 kN,reliability declined significantly,with only 65%of the spring flaps expected to withstand the stress without *** study also identified a safe load-induced stress of 95 MPa on the spring *** findings suggest that transitioning from forged to cast spring flaps is a promising option,particularly if further improvements in casting design reduce porosity to negligible levels,potentially achieving 100%reliability under typical loading *** integrated approach of mold optimization coupled with reliability estimation under realistic service loading conditions offers significant potential for the casting industry to produce robust,cost-effective products.

Novel delay-dependent stability analysis of Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy uncertain neural networks with time varying delays

This paper presents the stability analysis for a class of neural networks with time varying delays that are represented by the Takagi^ugeno IT-S） model. The main results given here focus on the stability criteria using a new Lyapunov functional. New relaxed conditions and new linear matrix inequality-based designs are proposed that outperform the previous results found in the literature. Numerical examples are provided to show that the achieved conditions are less conservative than the existing ones in the literature.

Robust stability analysis of Takagi-Sugeno uncertain stochastic fuzzy recurrent neural networks with mixed time-varying delays

In this paper, the global stability of Takagi-Sugeno （TS） uncertain stochastic fuzzy recurrent neural networks with discrete and distributed time-varying delays （TSUSFRNNs） is considered. A novel LMI-based stability criterion is obtained by using Lyapunov functional theory to guarantee the asymptotic stability of TSUSFRNNs. The proposed stability conditions are demonstrated through numerical examples. Furthermore, the supplementary requirement that the time derivative of time-varying delays must be smaller than one is removed. Comparison results are demonstrated to show that the proposed method is more able to guarantee the widest stability region than the other methods available in the existing literature.
