Optimal site selection for an optical-astronomical observatory in Pakistan using Multicriteria Decision Analysis

An astronomical observatory is the core component of any astronomical research facility that connects astronomers with their lab: the Cosmos. The research quality of an astronomical facility is rooted in the precision of data, collected by its observatory. For optimal performance, an observatory is sited while considering certain astronomical, environmental, geological and social parameters. This study aims to identify the potential sites in Pakistan for locating an optical-astronomical observatory using the Multicriteria Decision Analysis(MCDA) technique. The study uses the Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP) for deriving the influence weights of nine evaluation criteria: Photometric Night Fraction;Night-time Sky Brightness;Sky Transparency;Aerosol Concentration;Altitude;Terrain Slope;Accessibility;Seismic Vulnerability;and Landuse/Land Cover. On the basis of experts’ opinions and previous studies, the evaluation criteria have been ordered in two possible preference sequences for identifying their influence weights with respect to each other for taking part in MCDA. Consequently, the process of MCDA identified certain areas with respect to each preference sequence, whereas some areas were found to be suitable according to both preference sequences. The study synchronizes the required eclectic data into an evaluation matrix that augments the process of astronomical site selection. In the future, this study will be useful for astronomical societies and for furthering astronomical research in the country.

Analytical Hybrid Particle Swarm Optimization Algorithm for Optimal Siting and Sizing of Distributed Generation in Smart Grid

In this paper,the hybridization of standard particle swarm optimisation(PSO)with the analytical method(2/3 rd rule)is proposed,which is called as analytical hybrid PSO(AHPSO)algorithm used for the optimal siting and sizing of distribution *** proposed AHPSO algorithm is implemented to cater for uniformly distributed,increasingly distributed,centrally distributed,and randomly distributed loads in conventional power *** demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm,the convergence speed and optimization performances of standard PSO and the proposed AHPSO algorithms are compared for two *** the first case,the performances of both the algorithms are compared for four different load distributions via an IEEE 10-bus *** the second case,the performances of both the algorithms are compared for IEEE 10-bus,IEEE 33-bus,IEEE 69-bus systems,and a real distribution system of *** results show that the proposed AHPSO algorithm converges significantly faster than the standard *** results of the proposed algorithm are compared with those of an analytical algorithm,and the results of them are similar.

The outcrop investigations provide a better comprehension to interrelate facies-diagenesis and fracture networks for the evaluation of reservoir potential of the carbonate *** this paper,we targeted Kahi-Section(Nizampur Basin)and Peeran Tangai-Section(Kalachitta Range)to analyze structural-kinematics,Discrete Fracture Network Modelling,microfacies identification and diagenesis to interpret their impact on reservoir potential of Lockhart Limestone(Paleocene).The structural grain within the study area mostly represents the typical east-west trending tight to overturned folds and north-dipping thrust faults that mimic the north-south Indo-Eurasian ***,a second phase of deformation related to east-west compressions also identified which rotated the axes of preexisting *** analysis revealed that extensional fractures are oriented at high angle to bedding and are differentiated into three orthogonal sets trending northeast-southwest,northwest-southeast and east-west,whereas,the shear fractures formed two conjugate sets trending *** Lockhart Limestone was deposited in the inner ramp setting and microfacies types are packstone,wackestone and wacke-packstone with seven sub-microfacies *** has been identified that the Lockhart Limestone has the heterogeneous distribution of diagenetic and tectonic features throughout its *** observed diagenetic sequence is micritization,calcite cementation,dissolution,neomorphism,pyritization and *** results highlight that open and partially filled fractures may provide an interconnected network to promote fluid mobility,leading to higher values of fracture *** porosity values of the pore matrix were greater than fracture,resulting a significant impact on reservoir storage *** contrast,a negative impact on reservoir potential has been shown by stylolites,veins and dissolution ***,based on the overall studies,the Lockhart Limestone reve

Introduction:Karachi,a city of unique terrain and moderate tropical climate,is home to several mosquito *** geographical distribution and density of these species may vary within the city,owing to their interaction with an ever-increasing population and urban *** a consequence,the prevalence of vector-borne diseases is unpredictable within the geographical limits of Karachi *** this spatiotemporal study,1,156 mosquito samples were collected from 50 study sites with unique ecological characteristics within the city and a taxonomical exercise was conducted to investigate different vector species thriving in different months and seasons of the *** main genera of mosquitoes were identified and categorized using a pictorial key based on the standard guidelines of the Walter Reed Biosystematics Unit,substantiated with ancillary ***:Three important genera were found in Karachi:Anopheles,Aedes and *** subgenera were subsequently identified,based on their susceptibility to major vector-borne *** had the highest concentration of adult mosquitoes,as the colder weather conditions were suitable for *** recorded the lowest number,owing to excessively hot weather when most of the breeding pockets had dried out;less vegetation(in pre-monsoon conditions)prevented mosquito ***:Slum areas showed an abundance of malaria and dengue vectors,owing to poor hygiene conditions caused by open sewage ***,a major precaution is to raise awareness among people about mosquito-borne *** breeding habitats of these vectors should be studied using geospatial technologies to improve spatial and temporal coverage.

The distribution transformer is the mainstay of the power *** internal temperature study is desirable for its safe operation in the power *** purpose of the present study is to determine direct comprehensive thermal distribution in the distribution transformers for different loading *** achieve this goal,the temperature distribution in the oil,core,and windings are studied at each *** experimental study is performed with a 10/0.38 kV,10 kVA oil–immersed transformer equipped with forty–two PT100 sensors(PTs)for temperature measurement installed inside during its manufacturing *** possible locations for the hottest spot temperature(HST)are considered that made by finite element analysis(FEA)simulation and losses calculations.A resistive load is made to achieve 80%to 120%loading of the test transformer for this *** temperature is measured in each part of the transformer at all provided loading *** is observed that temperature varies with loading throughout the transformer,and a detailed map of temperature is obtained in the whole test *** these results,the HST stays in the critical section of the primary winding at all loading *** work is helpful to understand the complete internal temperature layout and the location of the HST in distribution transformers.

Natural resource management is indispensable keeping in view their positive economic impacts as well as their detrimental environmental *** achieve certain SDGs,it is inevitable to manage natural resources through effective policies that help to inhibit adverse environmental *** on this approach,the current empirical analysis aims to probe whether environmental policy stringency intensifies,meagres,and/or halts the abysmal environmental impact of natural resources in G-7 countries(United Kingdom,United States,Canada,Italy,France,Japan,and Germany)for the period from 1990 to *** that end,we rely on the second-generation panel data approaches and panel quantile *** outcomes reveal that natural resources increase carbon dioxide emission whereas the synergy of natural resources and environmental policy stringency plunges emissions across the *** findings suggest adoption of a strict environmental policy for attaining the targets of SGD-08(economic growth),SDG-09(innovations),SDG-11(sustainable cities),SDG-12(responsible consumption of natural resources),and SDG-13(climate action).

This research proposes a method called enhanced collaborative andgeometric multi-kernel learning (E-CGMKL) that can enhance the CGMKLalgorithm which deals with multi-class classification problems with non-lineardata distributions. CGMKL combines multiple kernel learning with softmaxfunction using the framework of multi empirical kernel learning (MEKL) inwhich empirical kernel mapping (EKM) provides explicit feature constructionin the high dimensional kernel space. CGMKL ensures the consistent outputof samples across kernel spaces and minimizes the within-class distance tohighlight geometric features of multiple classes. However, the kernels constructed by CGMKL do not have any explicit relationship among them andtry to construct high dimensional feature representations independently fromeach other. This could be disadvantageous for learning on datasets with complex hidden structures. To overcome this limitation, E-CGMKL constructskernel spaces from hidden layers of trained deep neural networks (DNN).Due to the nature of the DNN architecture, these kernel spaces not onlyprovide multiple feature representations but also inherit the compositionalhierarchy of the hidden layers, which might be beneficial for enhancing thepredictive performance of the CGMKL algorithm on complex data withnatural hierarchical structures, for example, image data. Furthermore, ourproposed scheme handles image data by constructing kernel spaces from aconvolutional neural network (CNN). Considering the effectiveness of CNNarchitecture on image data, these kernel spaces provide a major advantageover the CGMKL algorithm which does not exploit the CNN architecture forconstructing kernel spaces from image data. Additionally, outputs of hiddenlayers directly provide features for kernel spaces and unlike CGMKL, do notrequire an approximate MEKL framework. In this research,we used the Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation(RUSLE)and Geographical Information System(GIS)to predict the annual rate of soil loss in the District Chakwal of *** parameters of the RUSLE model were estimated using remote sensing data,and the erosion probability zones were determined using *** estimated length slope(LS),crop management(C),rainfall erosivity(R),soil erodibility(K),and support practice(P)range from 0-68,227,0-66.61%,0-0.58,495.99-648.68 MJ/***^(-1).year^(-1),0.15-0.25 MJ/***^(-1).year^(-1),and 1 *** results indicate that the estimated total annual potential soi loss of approximately 4,67,064.25 ***^(-1).year^(-1) is comparable with the measured'sediment ioss of 11,631 ***^(-1).year^(-1) during the water year *** predicted soil erosion rate due to an increase in agricultural area is approximately 164,249.31 ***^(-1).year^(-1).In this study,we also used,Landsat imagery to rapidly achieve actual land use ***,38.i3%of the region was threatened by very high soil erosion,where the quantity of soil erosion ranged from 365487.35 ***^(-1).year^(-1),Integrating GIS and remote sensing with the RUSLE model helped researchers achieve their final ***-use planners and decision-makers use the result's spatial distribution of soil erosion in District Chakwal for conservation and management planning.

Fog computing paradigm extends computing,communication,storage,and network resources to the network’s *** the fog layer is located between cloud and end-users,it can provide more convenience and timely services to ***,in fog computing(FC),attackers can behave as real fog nodes or end-users to provide malicious services in the *** attacker acts as an impersonator to impersonate other legitimate ***,in this work,we present a detection technique to secure the FC ***,we model a physical layer key generation based on wireless channel *** generate the secret keys between the legitimate users and avoid impersonators,we then consider a Double Sarsa technique to identify the impersonators at the receiver *** compare our proposed Double Sarsa technique with the other two methods to validate our work,i.e.,Sarsa and *** simulation results demonstrate that the method based on Double Sarsa outperforms Sarsa and Q-learning approaches in terms of false alarm rate(FAR),miss detection rate(MDR),and average error rate(AER).
