Effects of Humic a.id and Crop Residues on Soil and Wheat Nitrogen Contents

This study was conducted with the aim of finding humic a.id and crop residues effects on soil and wheat nitrogen at New Development Farm, University of Agriculture, Peshawar, Pa.istan during winter 2009-2010. The experiment was laid out in RCB design ha.ing four replica.ions. Different levels (1, 1.5, 2 and 2.5 kg ha-1) of Humic a.id were applied at sowing time. Mungbean (5 tons ha-1), wheat straw (10 tons ha-1) and mungbean (2.5 tons ha-1) + wheat straw (5 tons ha-1) were incorporated 30 days before sowing. Our results showed higher mineral and total nitrogen (7.32 and 0.43, respectively) mg kg-1 in soil and also higher nitrogen in stem, leaves and grains (2.3, 4.6 and 21.1, respectively) mg kg-1 at maturity in those plots in which 2.5 kg ha-1 of humic a.id was applied. Higher mineral and total nitrogen (7.04 and 0.5, respectively) mg kg-1 in soil and also higher nitrogen in leaves (5.5) mg kg-1 at pre-anthesis, while at maturity stage in stem, leaves and grain (5.5, 2.1, 4.2 and 20.8) g kg-1 was recorded in those plots in which 5 tons ha-1 mung bean was incorporated. Our experimental results suggest the use of 5 tons ha-1 of mungbean residues with 2.5 kg ha-1 of humic a.id to improve soil fertility availa.ility of more nitrogen in wheat plants to increase the crop yield and grains qua.ity.

Supply Response Analysis of Rice Growers in District Gujranwala, Pa.istan

The study was designed to estimate the restricted profit function in district Gujranwala, Punjab, Pa.istan. Data were collected from 100 respondents using proportional alloca.ion sampling tech-nique. The analysis was done using SHAZAM software. The results indicate that the farmers are price-responsive. Rice own price elasticity was 1.873. The output supply elasticity of rice with re-spect to educa.ion, land, fertilizer price and irriga.ion cost were 0.0.169, 1.274, -0.873 and -0.953 respectively. irriga.ion demand elasticity with respect to educa.ion, land, fertilizer price, irriga.ion cost and output price were 0.14, 1.14, -0.783, -1.84 and 1.78 respectively. Fertilizer demand elasticity with respect to educa.ion, land, fertilizer price, irriga.ion cost and output price was 0.023, 0.792, -1.65, -0.85 and 1.851 respectively. Lastly, the elasticity of profit with respect to educa.ion, land, fertilizer price, irriga.ion cost and output price was 0.20, 1.10, -0.83, -1.136 and 1.92 respectively. The study recommends that Government should provide consistent electricity with stable rates, so that, they irrigate their fields through electric tube wells and ultimately their cost of irriga.ion decreases. The study also suggests that government should sta.ilized fertilizer prices to encourage its applica.ion. Furthermore, government should raise procurement price of rice to encourage its supply this;it in turn will also increase the profit of the farmer.

This study work related with floa.ing of an idea about conversion of reclaimed thermal energy from domestic cooking system into the electrical power. There were different techniques in use worldwide for harnessing the energy into the appropriate useful work and also to create efficient system for the energy conversion process. The ignorance in this regard might be due to the reason that this wastage did not cost too much for a single home on per day or per month ba.is, but it could be a ample amount of cost if integrated this loss for a whole city or on yearly bases for a single home. The idea.in this work depended upon the recovery of waste heat from Pressure Cookers used in the houses for the domestic cooking purposes, and optimized the reclaimed thermal energy for the conversion into electric power. This research work related with losses of energy discussed and analyzed on the ba.is of thermo dyna.ically regarding (a) the wastage of thermal energy escaped through the system due to the sprea.ing of exhaust vapors and ta.ing away significant amount of thermal energy;(b) losses of enthalpy through the dissipate steam;(c) heat losses in the tubing from the Pressure Cooker to the turbine;(d) electric power produces from the system. in this work, new methods were advised, in order to reduce the losses of thermal energy from the system. it would open the venue for researchers to promote this new idea.in near future.

Effect of Arbuscular Mycorrhiza Fungal inocula.ion with Compost on Yield and Phosphorous Uptake of Berseem in Alka.ine Calcareous Soil

An experiment was conducted in pots under natural conditions in alka.ine calcareous soil to determine berseem (Trifolium alexandrium) yield and P uptake as affected by Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) inocula.ion with compost prepared from fresh a.imal dung and rock phosphate. Data.indicated that berseem shoot and roots yields increased significantly (P ≤ 0.05) by inocula.ion of indigenous mycorrhiza (AMF-i) and half dose of compost. Shoot yield increased as 98% and 76% roots yield as 60% and 52% over control and N and K fertilizers. Ma.imum and significantly (P ≤ 0.05) increased plant N and P uptake by berseem was observed in the treatment inoculated by commercial mycorrhiza (AMF-ii) with full dose of compost followed by the inocula.ion of AMF-ii with half dose of compost. Plants uptake of Cu, Mn and Fe was improved significantly (P ≤ 0.05) by the inocula.ion of AMF-ii with half dose of compost, while Zn uptake was increased in the treatment of AMF-ii inocula.ion with full dose of compost. Ma.imum and significantly (P ≤ 0.05) increased soil spores density of AMF as 27 spores per 20 g soil was noted by inocula.ion of AMF-i with half dose of compost, while ma.imum roots infection intensity in berseem was observed by the inocula.ion of AMF-i with full dose of compost. Results suggest that inocula.ion of AMF with compost has potential to improve berseem yields and plants nutrients uptake under given soil conditions.

针对传统肺结节检测中存在灵敏度低、假阳性高、小结节难检测的问题,提出一种基于深度卷积神经网络的两阶段肺结节检测框架。第一阶段使用特征金字塔子网提取肺部影像的多层次特征,引入多尺度区域建议子网用于在高灵敏度下检测出所有的候选结节;第二阶段设计级联卷积神经网络模型减少假阳性,通过保留分类错误样本用于重新训练模型,将多个模型结果进行投票选出最终分类结果。LUNA16数据集上的实验结果表明,所提框架灵敏度达到95.9%,检测效果优于其它算法,能够有效实现肺结节的准确检测。

Utiliza.ion Pattern of Oral Hypoglycemic Agents for Diabetes Mellitus Type 2 Pa.ients Attending Out-Pa.ient Department at a University Hospital in New Delhi

Diabetes mellitus is the chronic disorder emerging as major world health problem which increases the rate of morbidity and morta.ity. The aim of the present study was to ascertain patterns of prescription of oral hypoglycemic agents to type 2 diabetic pa.ients attending a university hospital, and to assess pa.ient compliance. A prospective, observa.ional and non compara.ive study was conducted in 200 established diabetes mellitus type 2 pa.ients attending outpa.ient department at Majeedia Hospital, New Delhi, india. Prescriptions from registered pa.ients were included in the study. Once the consulta.ion by the physician was over, the prescriptions were reviewed and the pa.ients were interviewed. The informa.ion was collected in an inhouse designed documenta.ion proforma. in a pool of 200 type 2 diabetics, more than half were female (n=106, 53%). The mean age of the pa.ients were found to be 50.4 ± 11.7 years and mean body mass index, 25.8 ± 4.4 kg/m2. A total of 432 oral hypoglycemic agents were prescribed to the pa.ients. Highly significant number of pa.ients were prescribed combina.ion therapy, (n=143, 71.5%) as compared to monotherapy (n=57, 28.5%),

This study was conducted to investigate the factors affecting the adoption of orga.ic farming in Peshawar-Pa.istan. A total of 100 respondents were randomly selected from the four different cultivated areas of Peshawar, namely Palosi, Regi, Ternab and Pushtakhara. Binary logistic re-gression was used in this study to categorize the orga.ic farming into adoption and non-adoption. The purpose of this model was to check the event proba.ility for a categorical response va.iable with two outcomes. The results of the binary logistic show that factors affecting adoption of orga.ic farming have a significant effect on the farmer productivity. Moreover, cost, productivity, profita.ility, compa.ibility and efficiency have a positive and significant effect. Thus, it is obvious that adopting orga.ic farming not only to increase the farmer income but also to protect environmental pollution by avoiding the toxic chemical and fertilizer. Finally, we suggest that government agencies, extension and research institution should play a vital role to strengthen the awareness and advantages of orga.ic farming.

CFD Simula.ion of Fixed and Va.iable Pitch Vertical a.is Tidal Turbine

in this paper, hydrodyna.ic analysis of vertical a.is tidal turbine （both fixed pitch ＆ va.iable pitch） is numerically analyzed. Two-dimensional numerical modeling ＆ simula.ion of the unsteady flow through the blades of the turbine is performed using ANSYS CFX, hereafter CFX, which is based on a Reynolds-Averaged Na.ier-Stokes （RANS） model. A transient simula.ion is done for fixed pitch and va.iable pitch vertical a.is tidal turbine using a Shear Stress Transport turbulence （SST） scheme. Main hydrodyna.ic parameters like torque T, combined moment CM, coefficients of performance Cp and coefficient of torque Cr, etc. are investigated. The modeling and meshing of turbine rotor is performed in iCEM-CFD. Moreover, the difference in meshing schemes between fixed pitch and va.iable pitch is also mentioned. Mesh motion option is employed for va.iable pitch turbine. This article is one part of the ongoing research on tm＇bine design and developments. The numerical simula.ion results are va.idated with well reputed analytical results performed by Edinburgh Design Ltd. The article concludes with a parametric study of turbine performance, compa.ison between fixed and va.iable pitch opera.ion for a four-bladed turbine. it is found that for va.iable pitch we get ma.imum Ce and peak power at smaller revolution per minute N and tip sped ra.io 2.

Engineering Geological and Geotechnical investiga.ions for Design of Oxygen Plant

The most important aspect of every civil engineering project is acquiring reliable informa.ion on the ground on which the project will be constructed. This research includes a site investiga.ion, which is seen as a primary stage in gathering geological, geotechnical, and other essential engineering data for structures’ safe and cost-effective design. Five boreholes at well-spaced spots were drilled for subsurface investiga.ion at a ma.imum depth of 15 m to 30 m. The standard penetra.ion tests (SPT) were performed at different depths, soil samples were taken at va.ious intervals, and lithological changes were observed. The friction angle was between 19.6ºand 33.03º, whereas the cohesion ranges between 0.25 kg/cm2 and 0.42 kg/cm2, indica.ing a strong resistance to shea.ing and a high capa.ity to sustain the load. Furthermore, the soil samples’ ma.imum dry density ranges from 1.63 g/cm3 to 1.80 g/cm3. in addition, water table depths were recorded from 6.0 m to 7.0 m. The net bea.ing capa.ity for isolated/pad founda.ion at a depth of 1.5 m to 2.5 m below the ground level has been calculated as 95.0 to 120.0 kPa and 120.0 to 180.0 kPa for raft founda.ion. The net allowable pressure settlement limits for isolated/pad and raft founda.ions are 25 mm (1-inch) and 50 mm (2-inches), respectively. The investiga.ion has found no severe geological flaws on the proposed construction site, and therefore it is appropriate for the construction of an Air Separa.ion Unit (ASU) Oxygen Plant.

inhibitory Effects of Several Fluoroquinolones on Feline CYP1A and 3a.in Hepa.ic Microsomes

in this study, the effects of several fluoroquinolones (FQs), such as Ciprofloxa.in (CPFX);Orbifloxa.in (OBFX);Norfloxa.in (NFX);Ofloxa.in (OFX);and Enerofloxa.in (EFX) on activities of both Cytochrome P450 1A (CYP1A) and Cytochrome P450 3A (CYP3A) of feline microsomes by i>in vitroi> tests were studied. Ethoxyresorufin O-deethyla.ion (EROD) and Midazolam 1' hydroxyla.ion and 4-hydroxyla.ion (MDZ1'H and MDZ4H) were analyzed by High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). All the FQs inhibited the reactions by a competitive or noncompetitive and irreversible manner. The inhibitory constants (Ki) were as followings: CYP1A;ranged from 0.12 to 1.23 mM for NFX, OBFX, EFX, CPFX, OFX and CYP3A, for MDZ1'H;ranged from 5.8 to 35 and MDZ4H;9 to 29 mM, respectively. As these values are higher by 24 to 200-times of given single clinical dose of serum levels after applica.ion of FQs. it indicates that if co-administrated with these FQs by reversible inhibitory manner, the inhibition of CYP1A and CYP3A effect on CYP1A and 3A actions is not very significant to cause drug interaction with above mentioned enzyme substrates. Out of the FQs tested, CPFX and NFX for CYP1A, and CPFX for CYP3A showed irreversible inhibitory effects (time-dependent), so it has been concluded that these drugs may cause drug-drug interaction by accumula.ion, when they are repeatedly administrated. Since EFX is biotransformed to CPFX by the liver, it could have the identical risk too.
