Currently,green rating systems are not directly related to environmental ***,rating systems score both building-related tasks with long life-time expectancies and system-related tasks with short lifetime expectancies without separating ***,passive solar and bio-climatic architectures,which have long lifetime expectancies and thus have a strong,negative impact on the environ-ment,are *** main goal of this study is to explore differences in total environmental impact for a single“typical”building module(with the heavy wall building technology accepted in Israel)in terms of six different lifetime shearing layers,Site,Structure,Skin,Services,Space Plan,and Stuff,each of which reflects a different form of environmental *** objective of this study was to evalu-ate the six shearing layers using life cycle assessment(LCA)by applying Eco-indi-cator 99(EI99).It was found that the environmental damage associated with the Building layers(Site,Structure,and Skin)was higher than that associated with the Service layers(Services,Space Plan,and Stuff).The paper may contribute to the development of a more scientific(quantitative)background for green rating *** a result,a greater decrease in building-related ecological impacts can be achieved,thus encouraging sustainable building activities.

This study analyzed the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Commercial Interior Certified,Silver,and Gold projects version 4.0(LEED-CIv4)in California for the period 2015‒*** tests were used to assess category and credit achievement,i.e.,the difference between possible and achieved points and the correlation between associated *** results show that most of the credits in the location and transportation category and the indoor environmental quality categories had a high level of achievement,a few credits in the energy and atmosphere and materials and resources categories had a high level of achievement,and all of the credits in the water efficiency category had a low level of *** associated credits,such as surrounding density and quality transit,had a high level of achievement and a positive correlation,whereas other associated credits,such as life-cycle impact reduction and environmental product declarations,had a low level of achievement and a positive *** LEED-CIv4 credits meet the require-ments of the California Green Building Standards Code 2016(CGBSC 2016),then these credits typically have a medium/high level of *** LEED-CIv4 credits exceed the requirements of CGBSC 2016,then these credits have a low level of ***,to improve the next version of LEED-CI,it is necessary to improve the local green codes.

The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design(LEED)for New Construction and Major Renovations v3(NC)and LEED for Existing Buildings:Operations and Maintenance v3(EB)schemes were studied to examine the application of the shearing layer concept to green *** manners in which(i)rating systems in their current configurations and(ii)certified projects in their practical applications treated the long life-expectances in buildings and short life-expectancies in systems were *** maximally reduce nondemonic intrusion,we studied only those states in the United States in which statistically viable numbers of projects had been completed in 2016.A two-way mixed analysis of variance(ANOVA)model was used to evaluate the interaction between two types of buildings(i.e.,NC vs EB)and two sets of sub-layers(i.e.,Site,Structure,and Skin from the Building layer and Services,Space Plane,and Stuff from the Service layer).The discrepancy in the case of a new building and the similarity in the case of a renovated building between rating schemes and certified projects were revealed:(i)the NC rating scheme prefers to emphasize the Service layer(SL),whereas newly constructed projects prefer to emphasize the Building layer(BL)due to the high performance of the Site and Structure sub-layers;(ii)the EB rating scheme prefers to emphasize the Service layer,as do renovated building projects,due to the high performance of the Stuff sub-layer.

LEED-NCV3 SILVER AND GOLD CERTIFIED PROJECTS IN THE US: AN OBSERVATIONAL STUDY

The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system has been widely used in the US. However, until now, there has been no clear understanding of the strategies that should be used to make the transition from Silver to Gold certified projects. The aim of this study was to determine the trends in certified projects for both Silver and Gold LEED for New Construction and Major Renovations (LEED-NCv3) in 2016. Three performances, including (i) certification, (ii) category/subcategory/sub-subcategory certification, and (iii) cross-certification, were evaluated for both Silver and Gold LEED-NCv3 certified projects. For an ordinal measurement scale, a two-tailed Mann-Whitney U test was used. For a ratio measurement scale, an unpaired two-tailed t-test was used. If eight or more Silver and Gold certified projects occurred in the same state, then the state was selected for statistical analysis. As a result, ten states were selected. The following was revealed: (i) low certification performances for both Silver and Gold;(ii) high category performance for Sustainable Sites and Innovation in Design and low category performance for Energy and Atmosphere for both Silver and Gold projects;and (iii) three different strategies of certified projects in transition from Silver to Gold that include (a) energy-emphasized (e.g., CA), (b) non-energy-emphasized (e.g., NY), and (c) integrated (e.g., GA) strategies. We speculate that the possible reasons for such deviations in the decision strategies were due to differences between the adopted ASHRAE 90.1 standards (ASHRAE Standard 90.1 2007 or ASHRAE Standard 90.1 2010) in each of the states.

This study evaluated Life-Cycle Assessment(LCA)of two different designs of high-performance concrete beam:(1)a single-layer beam(SLB)that consisted of steelﬁbered high-strength concrete in both the compression and tensile zones and(2)a two-layer beam(TLB)that consisted of steelﬁbered high-strength concrete and normal-strength concrete in the compression and tensile zones,*** SLB and steelﬁbered high-strength concrete layer of the TLB were of the same concrete class C70/*** of the SLB and TLB were conducted using the ReCiPe2016 mid-point and endpoint-single-score *** difference between the two endpoint-single-score results was evaluated using a two-stage nested analysis of *** ReCiPe2016 midpoint results showed that replacing the SLB with the TLB reduces the environmental impact of global warming potential,terrestrial ecotoxicity,water consumption,and scarcity of fossil resources by 15%,17%,11%,and 17%,*** ReCiPe2016 endpoint-single-score results showed that the environmental damage from the TLB compared to the SLB was statistically reduced(p=0.0256).Therefore,considering two different designs of steelﬁbered high-strength concrete beams,the TLB design was found environmentally preferable to SLB design on both,midpoint and endpoint-single-score evaluations.

Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Commercial Interiors (LEED-CI) is more relevant to interior design, which, according to the sharing layer concept, differs from exterior design (which is usually evaluated with the LEED New Construction sub-scheme). LEED-CI requires separate empirical analyses of LEED-CI certified buildings to further improve this sub-scheme. Therefore, in this study, Silver and Gold projects certified under LEED-CI-2009 in 14 US states were considered. Three project performance analyses, (i) certification, (ii) category, and (iii) cross-certification, were studied. The following results were revealed: (i) the range of the medians for Silver- and Gold-certified projects were 51-57 pts and 62-71 pts, respectively;(ii) in both Silver- and Gold-certified projects, Sustainable Sites (SS), Water Efficiency (WE), and Innovation in Design (ID) were the best-performing;Energy and Atmosphere (EA) and Indoor Environmental Quality (EQ) were intermediate-performing;and Material and Resources (MR) was the worst-performing categories;and (iii) in Silver-Gold cross-certification, category-focused (in 10 of 14 states) and category-unfocused (in four of 14 states) strategies were determined;in the category-focused strategy, the highest popular category was EA;the intermediate popular categories were WE, MR, and ID;and the lowest popular category was SS. Pooling all projects and all states into one frame can lead to the obscurement of the actual LEED-CI-2009 strategy(ies) in the transition from Silver to Gold certification in the US.

Historically,white flat roofs have been used in Israel due to the intense solar radiation and long,hot,rainless ***,red pitched roofs have also been frequently used for aesthetic *** has been recently observed that red pitched roofs have been recolored white by *** goal of this study was to compare the life cycle assessments(LCAs)of white flat roofs versus red or white pitched roofs through their production(P),operational energy(OE),and maintenance to disposal(MtoD)*** software was used to evaluate the OE *** ReCiPe method was used to evaluate the environmental damages in all the stages.A two-stage nested ANOVA was used to determine the significant differences between the ReCiPe result of a white flat roof and the ReCiPe result of a red/white pitched *** was found that(i)selection of the best roof technology(flat or pitched)requires consideration of the LCA,including the P,OE,and MtoD stages;(ii)the white(flat and pitched)roof was the best technology,while the red pitched roof was the worst technology;and(iii)the combination of the ReCiPe endpoint hierarchical six methodological options method with two-stage nested hierarchical mixed ANOVA is the best approach for assessing the differences related to the LCAs of roof technologies.
