Management of discarded tires is a compelling environmental issue *** there are several approaches developed to recycle waste tire rubbers,their application in solid-state cooling is still *** the high barocaloric potential verified for elastomers,the use of waste tire rubber(WTR)as a refrigerant in solid-state cooling devices is very ***,we investigated the barocaloric effects in WTR and polymer blends made of vulcanized natural rubber(VNR)and WTR,to evaluate its feasibility for solid-state cooling *** adiabatic temperature changes and the isothermal entropy changes reach giant values,as well as the performance parameters,being comparable or even better than most barocaloric materials in ***,pure WTR and WTR-based samples also present a faster thermal exchange than VNR,consisting of an additional advantage of using these discarded ***,the present findings evidence the encouraging perspectives of employing waste rubbers in solid-state cooling based on barocaloric effects,contributing to both the recycling of polymers and the sustainable energy technology field.

Mg alloys conventionally rolled often present strong basal textures that affect negatively further deformations,limiting their *** present research found that cross-rolling experiences in adequate conditions can weaken those intense basal textures as a result of the interaction of deformation mechanisms and dynamic *** effects of rolling temperature and strain rate on the microstructure and texture of an AZ31B magnesium alloy sheet generated heterogeneous microstructure where the initial basal texture was strengthened during cold cross-rolling and it was gradually weakening by the rolling reduction and the rolling temperature increases in such a way that a rather weak basal fiber was produced applying reductions higher than 15%at temperatures higher than 200℃.Their oDF functions supported the texture weakening,exhibiting a combination of two crystallographic orientations represented by{0001}and{0001}.

Frontal assessment battery: A tool for screening minimal hepatic encephalopathy?

AIMTo apply the Frontal Assessment Battery to cirrhotic patients with or without overt hepatic encephalopathy (oHE) and controls. METHoDSThe frontal assessment battery (FAB) was applied to 87 patients with liver cirrhosis (16 with and 71 without oHE) and 40 control subjects without cirrhosis treated at the alcohol and liver outpatient clinics and the gastroenterology ward of the Cassiano Antônio de Moraes University Hospital (Hospital Universitário Cassiano Antônio de Moraes - HUCAM), Espírito Santo, Brazil. RESULTSThe average FAB score was lower for the cirrhotic than for the non-cirrhotic patients (10.6 ± 3.67 vs 12.25 ± 2.72, P = 0.015). The FAB score was lower for the cirrhotic patients with oHE than for the patients without oHE (8.25 ± 4.55 vs 11.14 ± 3.25, P = 0.027). The total FAB score was lower for the cirrhotic patients without oHE than for the non-cirrhotic patients, although this difference was not significant (11.14 ± 3.25 vs 12.25 ± 2.72, P = 0.067). Nevertheless, the difference in the scores on the subtest that assessed the ability to inhibit a response previously conditioned to a stimulus was significant (1.72 ± 0.93 vs 2.2 ± 0.85, P = 0.011). CoNCLUSIoNThe present study indicates that the FAB is a promising tool for outpatient minimal HE screening and the assessment of HE severity.

Experimental study on combined buoyant-thermocapillary flow along with rising liquid film on the surface of a horizontal metallic mesh tube

Temperature distribution and variation with time has been considered in the analysis of the influences of the initial level of immersion of a horizontal metallic mesh tube in the liquid on combined buoyant and thermocapillary *** combined flow occurs along with the rising liquid film flow on the surface of a horizontal metallic mesh *** different levels of immersion of the metallic mesh tube in the liquid have been *** of 60 min in duration have been performed using a heating metallic tube with a diameter of 25 mm and a length of 110 mm,sealed outside with a metallic mesh of 178 mm by 178 mm,and distilled *** reveal two distinct flow *** and infrared thermal imager are utilized to measure the *** level of the liquid free surface relative to the lower edge of the tube is measured as angleθ.The results show that for a smallerθangle,or a low level of immersion,with a relatively low heating power,it is possible to near fully combine the upwards buoyant flow with the rising liquid film *** this case,the liquid is heated only in the vicinity of the tube,while the liquid away from the flow region experiences small changes in temperature and the system approaches steady *** largerθangles,or higher levels of immersion,a different flow pattern is noticed on the liquid free surface and identified as the thermo-capillary(Marangoni)*** rising liquid film is also *** higher levels of immersion cause a high temperature gradient in the liquid free surface region and promote thermal stratification;therefore the system could not approach steady conditions.

The Matthew Effect in Running:An Analysis of Elite Endurance Athletes over 23 Years

Purpose The purpose of this study was to investigate the frequency of countries represented in the ToP20 long-distance elite runners ranking during 1997-2020,taking into account the countries’Human Development Index(HDI),and to verify if the Matthew effect can be observed regarding countries’representativeness in the raking alongside the *** The sample comprised 1852 professional runner athletes,ranked in the Senior World ToP20 half-marathon(403 female and 487 male)and marathon(480 female and 482 male)races,between the years *** about the countries’HDI was included,and categorized as“low HDI”,“medium HDI”,“high HDI”,and“very-high HDI”.Athletes were categorized according to their ranking positions(1st-3rd;4th-10th;>10th),and the number of athletes per country/year was summed and categorized as“total number of athletes 1997-2000”;“total number of athletes 2001-2010”;and“total number of athletes 2011-2020”.The Chi-square test and Spearman correlation were used to verify potential associations and relationships between *** Most of the athletes were from countries with medium HDI,followed by low HDI and very-high ***-square test results showed significant differences among females(χ^(2)=15.52;P=0.017)and males(χ^(2)=9.03;P=0.014),in half-marathon and marathon,*** significant association was verified between HDI and the total number of athletes,but the association was found for the number of athletes alongside the years(1997-2000 to 2001-2010:r=0.60;Po-2011-2020:r=0.29;Ponclusion Most of the athletes were from countries with medium HDI,followed by those with low HDI and very-high *** Matthew effect was observed,but a generalization of the results should not be done.

Geomechanical characterization of volcanic rocks using empirical systems and data mining techniques

This paper tries to characterize volcanic rocks through the development and application of an empirical geomechanical system. Geotechnical information was collected from the samples from several Atlantic ocean islands including Madeira, Azores and Canarias archipelagos. An empirical rock classification system termed as the volcanic rock system(VRS) is developed and presented in detail. Results using the VRS are compared with those obtained using the traditional rock mass rating(RMR) system. Data mining(DM) techniques are applied to a database of volcanic rock geomechanical information from the *** algorithms were developed and consequently approaches were followed for predicting rock mass classes using the VRS and RMR classification systems. Finally, some conclusions are drawn with emphasis on the fact that a better performance was achieved using attributes from VRS.

Impacts of land use and land cover changes on hydrological processes and sediment yield determined using the SWAT model

Land use and land cover (LULC) changes strongly affect local hydrology and sediment *** current study focused on a basin in the Brazilian Amazon and had the following three objectives:(1) to perform an effective diagnosis of flow and sediment yield,(2) to evaluate the impacts of LULC changes over the last 40 years on the hydro-sedimentological variables,and (3) to investigate the impacts of the possible trends or breaking points in the flow,surface runoff,and sediment yield *** Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) model validation showed that the simulated results were consistent with the data measured in the dynamic reproduction of flow ***,changes in LULC altered surface runoff,sediment yield,and flow according to the Mann-Kendall and Pettitt non-parametric *** was also observed that the sub-basins in which pastureland is predominant are more susceptible to increased surface runoff and sediment *** to trend and homogeneity tests,these sub-basins had break points in the time series of these *** the other hand,in the sub-basins whose land cover is predominantly forest,the time series is homogeneous and *** current study highlighted the impacts that 40 years of LULC changes in an Amazonian basin had on hydro-sedimentological variables,which,in turn,can play an important role in changing the hydrological cycle,consequently these changes can also impact diverse human activities in the region,such as agribusiness,livestock,energy production,food security,and public water ***,it is concluded that the SWAT model is a good estimator of hydro-sedimentological processes in Amazonian basins and can be used by decision makers in the management of water and environmental resources.
