Performance index: An expeditious tool to screen for improved drought resistance in the Lathyrus genus

Some species of the Lathyrus genus are among the most promising crops for marginal lands, with high resilience to drought, flood, and fungal diseases, combined with high yields and seed nutritional value. However, lack of knowledge on the mechanisms underlying its outstanding performance and methodologies to identify elite genotypes has hampered its proper use in breeding. Chlorophyl a fast fluorescence transient （JIP test）, was used to evaluate water deficit （WD） resistance in Lathyrus genus. Our results reveal unaltered photochemical values for al studied genotypes showing resistance to mild WD. Under severe WD, two Lathyrus sativus genotypes showed remarkable resilience maintaining the photochemical efficiency, contrary to other genotypes studied. Performance index （PIABS） is the best parameter to screen genotypes with improved performance and grain production under WD. Moreover, we found that JIP indices are good indicators of genotypic grain production under WD. Quantum yield of electron transport （wEo） and efficiency with which＆trapped excitons can move electrons further than QA （c0） revealed as important traits related to improved photosyn-thetic performance and should be exploited in future Lathyrus germplasm improvements. The JIP test herein described showed to be an expeditious tool to screen and to identify elite genotypes with improved drought resistance.

Spinal cord injury(SCI)involves an initial traumatic phase,followed by secondary events such as ischemia,increased blood-spinal cord barrier permeability,ionic disruption,glutamate excitotoxicity,and metabolic alterations.A pe rsistent and exagge rated inflammato ry response within the spinal cord accompanies these events(Lima et al.,2022).The complexity and interplay of these mechanisms exacerbate the initial injury,leading to a degenerative process at the injury *** the initial trauma is unavoidable,the secondary injury begins within minutes and can last for months,creating an optimal window for therapeutic intervention.

Embeddings of Generalised Morrey Smoothness Spaces

We study embeddings between generalised Triebel–Lizorkin–Morrey spacesε_(ϕ,p,q)^(s)(R^(d))and within the scales of further generalised Morrey smoothness spaces like N_(ϕ,p,q)^(s)(R^(d)),B_(p,q)^(s,ϕ)(R^(d))and F_(p,q)^(s,ϕ)(R^(d)).The latter have been investigated in a recent paper by the first two authors(2023),while the embeddings of the scale N_(ϕ,p,q)^(s)(R^(d))were mainly obtained in a paper of the first and last two authors(2022).Now we concentrate on the characterisation of the spacesε_(ϕ,p,q)^(s)(R^(d)).Our approach requires a wavelet characterisation of those spaces which we establish for the system of Daubechies’*** we prove necessary and sufficient conditions for the embeddingε_(ϕ1,p1,q1)^(s1)(R^(d))→ε_(2ϕ2,p2,q2)^(s)(R^(d)).We can also provide some almost final answer to the question whenε_(ϕ,p,q)^(s)(R^(d))is embedded into C(R^(d)),complementing our recent findings in case of N_(ϕ,p,q)^(s)(R^(d)).

The emerging role of mesenchymal stem cell-derived extracellular vesicles to ameliorate hippocampal NLRP3 inflammation induced by binge-like ethanol treatment in adolescence

Our previous studies have reported that activation of the NLRP3(NOD-,LRR-and pyrin domain-containing protein 3)-inflammasome complex in ethanol-treated astrocytes and chronic alcohol-fed mice could be associated with neuroinflammation and brain *** stem cell-derived extracellular vesicles(MSC-EVs)have been shown to restore the neuroinflammatory response,along with myelin and synaptic structural alterations in the prefrontal cortex,and alleviate cognitive and memory dysfunctions induced by binge-like ethanol treatment in adolescent *** the therapeutic role of the molecules contained in mesenchymal stem cell-derived extracellular vesicles,the present study analyzed whether the administration of mesenchymal stem cell-derived extracellular vesicles isolated from adipose tissue,which inhibited the activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome,was capable of reducing hippocampal neuroinflammation in adolescent mice treated with binge *** demonstrated that the administration of mesenchymal stem cell-derived extracellular vesicles ameliorated the activation of the hippocampal NLRP3 inflammasome complex and other NLRs inflammasomes(e.g.,pyrin domain-containing 1,caspase recruitment domain-containing 4,and absent in melanoma 2,as well as the alterations in inflammatory genes(interleukin-1β,interleukin-18,inducible nitric oxide synthase,nuclear factor-kappa B,monocyte chemoattractant protein-1,and C–X3–C motif chemokine ligand 1)and miRNAs(miR-21a-5p,miR-146a-5p,and miR-141-5p)induced by binge-like ethanol treatment in adolescent *** analysis further revealed the involvement of miR-21a-5p and miR-146a-5p with inflammatory target genes and NOD-like receptor signaling *** together,these findings provide novel evidence of the therapeutic potential of MSC-derived EVs to ameliorate the hippocampal neuroinflammatory response associated with NLRP3 inflammasome activation induced by binge drinking in adolescence.

Estimating the impact of azimuth-angle variations on photovoltaic annual energy production

The performance of a photovoltaic(PV)installation is affected by its tilt and azimuth angles,because these parameters change the amount of solar energy absorbed by the surface of the PV ***,this paper demonstrates the impact of the azimuth angle on the energy production of PV *** different PV sites were studied,where the first comprises PV systems installed at-13°,-4°,+12°and+21°azimuth angles in different geographical locations,whereas the second PV site included adjacent PV systems installed at-87°,-32°,+2°and+17°azimuth *** the investigated PV sites were located in Huddersfield,*** summary,the results indicate that PV systems installed between-4°and+2°presented the maximum energy production over the last 4 years,while the worst energy generation were observed for the PV system installed at an azimuth angle of-87°.Finally,the probability projections for all observed azimuth angles datasets have been *** PV systems are affected by various environmental conditions such as fluctuations in the wind,humidity,solar irradiance and ambient temperature,ultimately,these factors would affect the annual energy generation of the PV *** that reason,we have analysed the disparities and the probability of the annual energy production for multiple PV systems installed at different azimuth angles ranging from-90°to+90°degrees,and affected by different environmental *** analyses are based on the cumulative density function modelling technique as well as the normal distribution function.

Biogeographic diversification in Nolana(Solanaceae),a ubiquitous member of the Atacama and Peruvian Deserts along the western coast of South America

The present paper reconstructs the biogeographic diversification for Nolana L.f.(Solanaceae),a genus of 89 endemic species largely restricted to fog-dependent desert lomas formations of coastal Peru and *** efforts have reconstructed a phylogenetic estimate for Nolana using a combination of molecular ***,we expand on those results to examine hypotheses of biogeographic origins and diversification *** occupies habitats within a continuous coastal desert and forms a terrestrial archipelago of discrete "islands" unique in size,topography,and species *** locality contains at least one Nolana species and many contain multiple species in *** genus has a Chilean origin,with the basal clades confined to Chile with wide geographic and ecological *** contains two strongly supported clades,suggesting two introductions with subsequent radiation.A Chilean clade of shrubby,small-flowered species appears to have had its origins from the same ancestors of the second line that radiated in Peru and northern *** galapagensis is endemic to the Islas Gala’pagos,with origins traced to Peruvian taxa with a divergence time of 0.35 *** of diversification over the past 4.02 mya in Nolana,in one of the driest habitats on Earth,suggest rapid adaptive radiation in several *** in Nolana may be attributed to characters that confer a competitive advantage in unpredictable and water-dependent environments,such as succulent leaf anatomy and ecophysiology,and the reproductive mericarp unique to *** processes affecting or shaping the biota of western South America are discussed.

Experimental modelling of flocculation processes-the case of Paraiba do Sul Estuary

The aggregation dynamics of fine sediments was analysed through laboratory tests using Couette and disk *** was shown that floc sizes tend to increase as concentrations grow both in fresh and salt water,in agreement with the aggregation theory,and that equilibrium diameters are slightly greater in salt environments for flocs developed either under shear stress or by differential *** transport and the aggregation processes were preliminarily studied in the estuary of the Paraiba do Sul River using a particle tracking model and field *** floc breakup process by shear stress was included in the *** stresses,which were determined by fractal dimensions and differential density,were accounted *** the calibration of the collision efficiency coefficients,the numerical model was able to predict floc sizes comparable with those measured at the Paraiba do Sul estuary,which,in turn,were similar to those obtained during the laboratory experiments in the Couette flocculator.

A STOPPING CRITERION FOR HIGHER-ORDER SWEEPING SCHEMES FOR STATIC HAMILTON-JACOBI EQUATIONS

We propose an effective stopping criterion for higher-order fast sweeping schemes for static Hamilton-Jacobi equations based on ratios of three consecutive iterations. To design the new stopping criterion we analyze the convergence of the first-order Lax-Friedrichs sweeping scheme by using the theory of nonlinear iteration. In addition, we propose a fifth-order Weighted PowerENO sweeping scheme for static Hamilton-Jacobi equations with convex Hamiltonians and present numerical examples that validate the effectiveness of the new stopping criterion.

The indentation size effect(ISE)was studied by instrumented nanoindentation and Vickers hardness measurements on polycrystalline copper,βCuAlBe pseudoelastic and age-hardenable CuBe *** in the load-depth curves at different loads would suggest a change in the behavior of the materials as the load *** was estimated at different loads taking into account the pile-up in each case,which was estimated from the images of the topography obtained by atomic force microscopy(AFM).The effect of the microstructure of Cu-2Be(wt%)samples on the ISE was also *** each copper alloy,the Nix and Gao model was applied to the hardness-depth curves,and significant differences were found for the parameters *** is in the constant nanohardness regime for depths below 500 nm,while microhardness exhibits the ISE *** behavior of the nanohardness and the plastic strain with the depth is almost *** presents the lowest values of plastic strains due to the pseudoelastic effect,while Cu presents an almost constant value around 8%,which corresponds to the highest plastic strain obtained.
