Materials scientists have been constantly on the lookout for materials that simultaneously exhibit high strength and good ductility,which is contrary to common wisdom[1].Earlier attempts to achieve this unusual combination have met with limited success[2].Novel approaches such as a duplex microstructure consisting of nanocrystalline and ultrafine grains yielded encouraging results[3].While the nanocrystalline structure provided high strength,the ultrafine-grained(or relatively coarse-grained)structure provided the needed ductility.

Flare characteristics such as the flare occurrence number density and the distribution of peak flux as well as duration of flares occurring on either side of a coronal mass ejection（CME） onset time are studied. While the flares are rather evenly distributed statistically on either side of the CME onset time,the flare peak flux and duration tend to decrease depending upon their occurrence either before or after the CME onset. This is consistent with the earlier findings that flares emit higher energy before a CME whereas the energy is less in flares occurring after a CME.

With respect to sensitivity,selectivity and speed of operation,the current differential scheme is a better way to protect transmission lines than overcurrent and distance-based ***,the protection scheme can be severely influenced by the Line Charging Capacitive Current(LCCC)with increased voltage level and Current Transformer(CT)saturation under external close-in *** paper presents a new UHV/EHV current-based protection scheme using the ratio of phasor summation of the two-end currents to the local end current,instead of summation of the two-end currents,to discriminate the internal *** accuracy and effectiveness of the proposed protection technique are tested on the 110 kV Western System Coordinating Council(WSCC)9-bus system using PSCAD/*** simulation results confirm the reliable operation of the proposed scheme during internal/external faults and its independence from fault location,fault resistance,type of fault,and variations in source ***,the effectiveness of the proposed scheme is also verified with faults during power swing and in series compensated lines.

Features of flares that occur in association with coronal mass ejections （CMEs） have often displayed variations compared to flares with no associated CMEs. A comparative estimation of peak flux values of flares associated with CMEs and those without CMEs is made. Peak flux values of flares associated with CMEs show distinctly higher values in comparison to flares with no associated CMEs. Higher peak flux of CME associated flares may be attributed to the heating of plasma to higher tempera- ture when associated with CMEs. While providing a distinct difference between the flux values of flares clearly associated with CMEs compared to flares associated with no CMEs, this study also highlights an evident difficulty in making distinct flare-CME associations.

Super-resolution(SR)algorithms address the inabilities of poor imaging devices,there by producing high quality images with enhanced *** propose a new SR approach which produces sharp high resolution(HR)image using its low resolution(LR)*** proposed method uses geometric duality for spatially adapting covariance-based interpolation(CBI).To preserve edge information,a multi-stage cascaded joint bilateral filter(MSCJBF)is proposed as an intermediary *** edges are incorporated in the high frequency subbands obtained by the stationary wavelet transform(SWT),through nearest neighbor interpolation(NNI)*** to the NNI process,the high frequency subbands undergo two-lobed lanczos interpolation to achieve the desired resolution *** quantitative and qualitative analysis for various test images prove the superiority of our method.

In this paper the effect of temperature on the mechanoluminescence of Au doped phosphors of（Zn,Cd）S is *** is found that the ML disappears beyond a particular *** temperature dependence of ML intensity follows the relation I =I_T^O（1-TIT_C）~n,where I_T^O is a constant,n is the slop of log I_T versus log（1- TIT_C） plot which lies between 0.9 and 1.10,T_C is the temperature at which ML *** is found that the ML intensity in（Zn,Cd）S：Au disappear at 600 K.

Rock drilling is an essential operation in mining *** at the bit-rock interface plays a major role in the wear rate of the drill *** paper primarily focuses on the wear rate of tungsten carbide(WC)drill bit and the interrelationship between temperature and wear rate during rotary drilling operations conducted using a computer numerical control(CNC)*** interrelationship between the temperature and wear rate was studied with regard to three types of rock samples,i.e.,fine-grained sandstone(FG)of uniaxial compressive strength(UCS)that is 17.83 MPa,medium-grained sandstone(MG)of UCS that is 13.70 MPa,and fine-grained sandstone pink(FGP)of UCS that is 51.67 *** rate of the drill bit has been measured using controlled parameters,i.e.,drill bit diameter(6,8,10,12,and 16 mm),spindle speed(250,300,350,400,and 450 rpm),and penetration rate(2,4,6,8,and 10 mm/min),***,a fully instrumented laboratory drilling set-up was *** weight of each bit was measured after the bit reached 30 mm depth in each type of the rock ***,effects of the bit-rock interface temperature and operational parameters on wear rate of the drill bits were *** results show that the wear rate of drill bits increased with an increase in temperature for all the bit-rock combinations *** is due to the silica content of the rock sample,which leads to an increase in the frictional heat between the bit-rock ***,in case of medium-grained sandstone,the weight percentage(wt%)of SiO2 is around 7.23 wt%,which presents a very low wear rate coefficient of 6.33×10^–2 mg/(N?m).Moreover,the temperature rise during drilling is also minimum,i.e.,around 74℃,in comparison to that of fine-grained sandstone and fine-grained sandstone *** addition,this paper develops the relationship between temperature and wear rate characteristics by employing simple linear regression analysis.

Magnesium matrix composites reinforced with AlN particles were fabricated by the powder metallurgy technique. The evolution of lattice constants and solid solubility levels of Al in α-Mg and the microstructure of Mg-Al/AlN composites were investigated in the present study. The results showed that the solid solubility of Al in α-Mg reached a relatively high level by the P/M process with a long time of milling. X-ray diffraction showed that the peaks of Mg phase clearly shifted to higher angles. The lattice constants and cell volume decreased significantly compared with those of standard Mg due to a significant amount of Al incorporated into α-Mg in the form of substitutional solid solution. The degree of lattice deformation decreased at a low sintering temperature and increased at higher sintering temperatures due to the presence of AlN. Microstructural characterization of the composites revealed a necklace distribution of AlN particles in the Mg matrix. Heat treatment led to precipitation of Mg17Al12 from the supersaturated α-Mg solid solution. The pre- cipitate exhibited granular and lath-shaped morphologies in Mg matrix and ftocculent precipitation around AlN particles.
