Objective:The objective of this study was to assess and compare job satisfaction and organizational commitment among nurses working on temporary versus permanent basis at a tertiary care teaching hospital,Uttarakhand,*** and Methods:A total of 250 nurses(125 temporary and 125 permanent)were selected using stratified disproportionate random sampling techniques from a tertiary care teaching *** datasheet,Job Satisfaction Survey scale,and Organizational Commitment scale were used to collect ***:The study results revealed that the job satisfaction score was significantly higher in permanent nurses(139.1±15.4)than in temporary nurses(131.3±12.2)(P<0.001).However,temporary nurses(85.2±14.4)were more committed toward organization than permanent nurses(80.0±16.0)(P<0.001).There was a significant association between nurses’job satisfaction and their gross salary(P<0.001)and their organizational commitment with the selected profession by own will(P<0.001).Conclusion:The present study concluded that majority of temporary and permanent nurses reported a moderate level of job satisfaction and organizational *** study suggests enhancing employee satisfaction can improve organizational *** well,this study’s findings can serve as a valuable foundation for designing policies to enhance organizational commitment in the future.

This paper presents a solar-powered interleaved high-gain boost converter(IHGBC)that increases voltage gain with fewer ripples in the output voltage in comparison to existing DC-DC *** goal of this research is to develop a hybrid-based maximum power point tracking(MPPT)approach with the combination of a flower pollination(FP)algorithm assisted with a perturb&observe(P&O)MPPT approach for solar photovoltaic(SPV)systems integrated with *** ensure effective usage of both FP and P&O algorithms,this study incorporates and validates the hybrid-based MPPT *** proposed solar-powered IHGBC with a hybrid-based MPPT algorithm has been computationally modelled and simulated using MATLAB®and Simulink®for both uniform and non-uniform irradiation and analysed for voltage gain,ripples in the output waveforms and convergence *** proposed hybrid-based MPPT is based on a number of flowers that forecast the initial global peak,assisted by P&O in the last stage for faster convergence to attain the maximum power point(MPP).As a result,the hybrid-based MPPT approach alleviates the computational issues encountered in P&O and FP-based MPP *** proposed hybrid MPPT is compared with conventional MPPT for SPV and the results show that the solar-powered IHGBC using a hybrid-based MPPT technique has negligible oscillations of 0.14%with a high-voltage gain of 7.992 and a fast convergence rate of 0.05 seconds compared to individual P&O-based MPPT and FP-based MPPT *** simulation results of the proposed MPPT with IHGBC outperform the conventional MPPT with high-gain converters.

Risk factors for the development of colorectal carcinoma:A case control study from South India

AIM:To study the association of colorectal carcinoma(CRC) with diet,smoking,alcohol,physical activity,body mass index,family history and ***: All consecutive patients with CRC confirmed by histopathology diagnosis were included. Age(±5 years) and gender matched controls were selected among the patients admitted in surgery ward for various conditions without any co-existing malignancy. Food frequency questionnaire(FFQ) was developed and validated after pretesting by investigator trained in data col ection techniques. Cases and controls were interviewed ensuring privacy,in similar interview setting,with same duration of time for both cases and controls without any leading question. Biological variables like family history of CRC in first degree relatives,history of diabetes mellitus; behavioral factors like tobacco use both smoking and smokeless form,alcohol consumption and physical activity were recorded. Dietary details were recorded using a FFQ consisting 29 food items with seven categories. Analysis was done using appropriate statistical ***: Ninety-four histopathologically confirmed cases of CRC and equal number of age and gender matched controls treated over a period of two years were studied. Age distribution,mean age,male to female ratio,education level and socioeconomic status were similar in cases and controls. Intake of food items was categorized into tertile due to skewed distribution of subjects as per recommended cut off for consumption of food item. On univariate analysis red meat [OR=7.4(2.935-18.732)],egg [OR=5.1(2.26-11.36)],fish,fried food and oil consumption were found to be risk factors for CRC. On multivariate analysis red meat consumption of more than 2-3 times a month(OR=5.4; 95%CI:1.55-19.05) and egg consumption of more than 2-3 times a week(OR = 3.67; 95%CI:1.23-9.35) were found to be independent risk factors for the development of ***: Egg and red meat consumption found to be independent risk factors for C

Objective:To evaluate the antimalarial activity of noscapine against Plasmodium falciparum 3D7 strain(Pf3D7),its clinical isolate(Pf140/SS),and Plasmodium berghei ANKA(PbA).Methods:Using ring-stage survival assay,phenotypic assessments,and SYBR-green-based fluorescence assay,the antimalarial activities of noscapine were assessed compared with dihydroartemisinin(DHA)in in vivo and in vitro *** addition,hemolysis and cytotoxicity tests were carried out to evaluate its ***-PCR assay was also conducted to determine the effect of noscapine on papain-like cysteine protease Plasmodium falciparum falcipain-2(PfFP-2).Results:The antimalarial efficacy of noscapine against Pf3D7 and Pf140/SS was comparable to DHA,with IC50 values of(7.68±0.88)and(5.57±0.74)nM/mL,respectively,and>95%inhibition of PbA infected *** also showed a safe profile,as evidenced by low hemolysis and cytotoxicity even at high ***,PfFP-2 expression was significantly inhibited in both noscapine-treated Pf3D7 and Pf140/SS(P<0.01).Conclusions:Noscapine has antimalarial properties comparable to standard antimalarial DHA with better safety profiles,which may be further explored as a therapeutic candidate for the treatment of malaria.

Multi-material Bio-inspired Soft Octopus Robot for Underwater Synchronous Swimming

Inspired by the simple yet amazing morphology of the Octopus, we propose the design, fabrication, and characterization of multi-material bio-inspired soft Octopus robot (Octobot). 3D printed molds for tentacles and head were used. The tentacles of the Octobot were casted using Ecoflex-0030 while head was fabricated using relatively flexible material, i.e., OOMOO-25. The head is attached to the functionally responsive tentacles (each tentacle is of 79.12 mm length and 7 void space diameter), whereas Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) muscle wires of 0.5 mm thickness are used in Octobot tentacles for dual thrust generation and actuation of Octobot. The tentacles were separated in two groups and were synchronously actuated. Each tentacle of the developed Octobot contains a pair of SMA muscles (SMA-α and SMA-β). SMA-α muscles being the main actuator, was powered by 9 V, 350 mA power supply, whereas SMA-β was used to provide back thrust and thus helps to increase the actuation frequency. Simulation work of the proposed model was performed in the SolidWorks environment to verify the vertical velocity using the octopus tentacle actuation. The design morphology of Octobot was optimized using simulation and TRACKER software by analyzing the experimental data of angle, displacement, and velocity of real octopus. The as-developed Octobot can swim at variable frequencies (0.5–2 Hz) with the average speed of 25 mm/s (0.5 BLS). Therefore, the proposed soft Octopus robot showed an excellent capability of mimicking the gait pattern of its natural counterpart.

Nowadays,the most challenging and important problem of computer vision is to detect human activities and recognize the same with temporal information from video *** video datasets are generated using cameras available in various devices that can be in a static or dynamic position and are referred to as untrimmed *** monitoring is a historical necessity in which commonly occurring,regular,and out-of-the-ordinary activities can be automatically identified using intelligence systems and computer vision *** a long video,human activity may be present anywhere in the *** can be a single ormultiple human activities present in such *** paper presents a deep learning-based methodology to identify the locally present human activities in the video sequences captured by a single wide-view camera in a sports *** recognition process is split into four parts:firstly,the video is divided into different set of frames,then the human body part in a sequence of frames is identified,next process is to identify the human activity using a convolutional neural network and finally the time information of the observed postures for each activity is determined with the help of a deep learning *** proposed approach has been tested on two different sports datasets including ActivityNet and *** sports activities like swimming,cricket bowling and high jump have been considered in this paper and classified with the temporal information i.e.,the start and end time for every activity present in the *** convolutional neural network and long short-term memory are used for feature extraction of temporal action recognition from video data of sports *** outcomes show that the proposed method for activity recognition in the sports domain outperforms the existing methods.

The color image segmentation problem has two main issues to be solved. The proper choice of a color model and the choice of an appropriate image model are the key issues in color image segmentation. In this work, Ohta (I1, I2, I3) is taken as the color model and different variants of Markov Random Field (MRF) models are proposed. In this regard, a Compound Markov Random Field (COMRF) model is porposed to take care of inter-color-plane and intra-color-plane interactions as well. In continuation to this model, a Constrained Compound Markov Random Field Model (CCOMRF) has been proposed to model the color images. The color image segmentation problem has been formulated in an unsupervised framework. The performance of the above proposed models has been compared with the standard MRF model and some of the state-of-the-art methods, and found to exhibit improved performance.

Performance-based intersection layout under a flyover for heterogeneous traffic

Flyovers are constructed to manage heavy through movement. However, traffic operations underneath a flyover remain unmanaged and often pose a major con- cern in developing countries with non-lane-based hetero- geneous traffic. This may reduce the overall benefit of a flyover. An alternative intersection layout is proposed to improve traffic operations at the intersection underneath a flyover. The proposed layout segregates the traffic move- ments through effective channelization. A traffic island is also proposed in the middle of the intersection to facilitate concurrent right-turning movements. This layout helps in eliminating a signal phase and cuts down traffic cycle time by 40 %. A microsimulation-based traffic simulation model is developed for the evaluation of the proposed layout. The simulation model demonstrates effectiveness of the proposed layout. Average delay and average queue length are compared to measure the effectiveness. Traffic volume sensitivity analysis is conducted to estimate the capacity of the proposed layout. An intersection underneath a flyover along the Eastern Expressway in Mumbai is considered for the case study. The effectiveness of the proposed layout at the study location for varying flow level is evaluated by comparing average delay, average stop delay, average number of stops per vehicle, average queue length, and maximum queue length.

BACKGROUND The incidence of primary osteoarthritis knee is gradually increasing among young *** increasing prevalence of obesity,sedentary lifestyle,sporting activity,and vitamin D deficiency(VDD)has been hypothesized for this shifting disease *** study was designed to look for the association of serum vitamin D among these young arthritic *** To look for the association of serum vitamin D in younger knee osteoarthritis(KOA)*** In a 2-year observational study,146 non-obese KOA patients of 35-60 years were evaluated clinically(Knee injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score,KOOS)and radiologically(Kellegren-Lawrence stage,KL).The serum 25(OH)D level of these patients and 146 normal healthy individuals of same age group were *** Both the groups were comparable in terms of age and *** average serum 25(OH)D level in healthy individuals and KOA patients was 45.83 ng/mL and 34.58 ng/mL,respectively(P<0.001).Inadequate serum 25(OH)D level(<30 ng/mL)was found in 46.57%of KOA patients and 24%of normal healthy participants indicating a significant positive association(odds ratio 2.77,95%CI:1.67-4.54,P<0.001).The 25(OH)D level in KL grade I,II,III and IV was 43.40,30.59,31.56 and 33.93 ng/mL respectively(no difference,P=0.47).Similarly,the KOOS score in sufficient,insufficient and deficient groups were 65.31,60.36 and 65.31,respectively(no difference,P=0.051).CONCLUSION The serum 25(OH)D level is significantly low in younger KOA ***,the clinical and radiological severities have no association with serum vitamin D level.
