Colorectal cancer screening in human immunodeficiency virus population:Are they at average risk?

AIM:To evaluate if human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) population is getting adequate screening for colon cancer in the highly active anti-retroviral treatment (HAART) era with improved longevity, and the prevalence of polyps and adenomas in this population, when compared with the general population. METHODS:We conducted retrospective chart review of average-risk HIV population for colon cancer attending our infectious disease clinic. Individuals who underwent diagnostic colonoscopy were excluded. We extracted various demographic, HIV disease-specific and colonoscopy data including histo-pathological reports in the last 10 years. Total population was divided into a study group, who underwent screening colonoscopy and a control group who did not. We analyzed data using standard statistical methods and software. RESULTS:We found that 25% of average-risk HIVinfected population was screened for colon cancer using colonoscopy. There was no difference in gender and ethnic distribution between the groups. We foundwider distribution of age (50-84 years with mean 56 years) in the control group when compared to (50-73 years with mean 58 years) the study group. However, there were 89% of subjects with well-controlled HIV disease measured by HIV RNA copies of < 75 in the study group when compared with 70% in the control group (P < 0.0001). We noticed polyp detection rate of 55% and adenoma detection rate of 32% in HIV population. CONCLUSION:It is unclear whether HIV or HAART medications play a role in increased prevalence of adenomas. We suggest that when estimating the risk for colonic neoplasms, HIV population should be considered as a high-risk group and screened accordingly.

Characteristics of MOF, MWCNT and graphene containing materials for hydrogen storage: A review

Hydrogen is a generally abundant, safe, clean and environmentally apt alternative fuel, which replenishes the void generated by depleting fossil fuel reserves. The adoption of hydrogen as an energy source has been restricted to low levels due to the complications associated with its viable storage and usage. Existing technologies, such as storage of hydrogen in compressed and liquefied forms are not adequate to meet the broad on-board applications. The gravimetric energy density(120 MJ/kg) of hydrogen is three times higher than that of gasoline products, so solid-state hydrogen storage is ***-organic frameworks(MOFs), multi-walled carbon nanotubes(MWCNTs) and graphene are solid adsorbents majorly employed for efficient H_2 storage. The prominent features of MOFs such as permanent porosity, structural rigidity, and surface area are attractive and ideal for hydrogen storage. In addition,nanostructured carbon materials(MWCNTs and graphene) and their composites have demonstrated significant hydrogen storage capacities. Some important parameters for the success of the hydrogen economy include high storage density, adsorption/desorption temperature and cycling time. Cryo-hydrogen storage was achieved in MOFs and their composites with carbon structures, but storage at ambient temperature and acceptable pressures is a major hurdle. This review discusses various strategies and mechanisms in the design of adsorbents explored to improve H_2 storage capacities and afford opportunities to develop new sustainable hydrogen technologies to meet energy targets.

Rare earth(La)and metal ion(Pb)substitution induced structural and multiferroic properties of bismuth ferrite

In this study,bulk samples of multiferroic with compositional formula,BiFeO3 and Bi_(0.825)A_(0.175)FeO_(3)(A=La,Pb),were synthesized by solid state reaction route.X-ray diffraction(XRD)along with the Rietveld refinement revealed the distorted rhombohedral(R3c)structure for pristine BiFeO3 and Bi0.825La0.175FeO3 and tetragonal(P4/mmm)for Bi_(0.825)Pb_(0.175)FeO_(3)*** support the structural results,bond length between atoms for both of the compounds was calculated.A change in Raman mode position in BiFeO3(BFO)has been observed with La and Pb substitution from Raman scattering measurements and also recommended a structural change with rare earth and metal ion substitution at Bi *** the frequency dependent dielectric constant and dielectric loss plots,a decrease in dielectric values with increase in frequency was observed for both of the *** microelectronic devices,porous ceramics with lower value of dielectric constant are most ***,further studies are also needed to carefully tune the magnetoelectric properties and structural distortion after La/Pb substitution in BFO.

Though the Butterfly Bptimization Algorithm(BOA)has already proved its effectiveness as a robust optimization algorithm,it has certain ***,a new variant of BOA,namely mLBOA,is proposed here to improve its *** proposed algorithm employs a self-adaptive parameter setting,Lagrange interpolation formula,and a new local search strategy embedded with Levy flight search to enhance its searching ability to make a better trade-off between exploration and ***,the fragrance generation scheme of BOA is modified,which leads for exploring the domain effectively for better *** evaluate the performance,it has been applied to solve the IEEE CEC 2017 benchmark *** results have been compared to that of six state-of-the-art algorithms and five BOA ***,various statistical tests,such as the Friedman rank test,Wilcoxon rank test,convergence analysis,and complexity analysis,have been conducted to justify the rank,significance,and complexity of the proposed ***,the mLBOA has been applied to solve three real-world engineering design *** all the analyses,it has been found that the proposed mLBOA is a competitive algorithm compared to other popular state-of-the-art algorithms and BOA variants.

Universal converse flexoelectricity in dielectric materials via varying electric field direction

Flexoelectricity is a symmetry independent electromechanical cou-pling phenomenon that outperforms piezoelectricity at micro and nanoscales due to its size-dependent behavior arising from gradi-ent terms in its constitutive ***,due to this gradient term flexoelectricity,to exhibit itself,requires specially designed geometry or material composition of the dielectric *** of its kind,the present study put forward a novel strategy of achieving electric field gradient and thereby converse flexoelectri-city,independent of geometry and material composition of the *** spatial variation of the electric field is established inside the dielectric material,Ba_(0.67)Sr_(0.33)TiO_(3)(BST),by manipulating electrical boundary *** unique patterns of electrode placement are suggested to achieve this spatial *** varying direction of electric field gives rise to electric field gradient,the prerequisite of converse flexoelectricity.A multi-physics cou-pling based theoretical framework is established to solve the flexo-electric actuation by employing isogeometric analysis(IGA).Electromechanically coupled equations of flexoelectricity are solved to obtain the electric field distribution and the resulting displace-ments *** maximum displacements of 0.2 nm and 2.36 nm are obtained with patterns I and II,respectively,while pattern III can yield up to 85 nm of maximum displacement.

Analysis on multiple optical line terminal passive optical network based open access network

Passive optical networks (PONs) offer suffi-cient bandwidth to transfer huge amount having different packet sizes and data rates being generated by fusion of various networks. Additionally, multiple optical line terminals (OLTs) PONs reduce the computational com-plexity of data processing for nonuniform traffic. However, in order to improve the bandwidth allocation efficiency of a mixture of service providers, dynamic bandwidth algo-rithm (DBA) is needed for uplink communication. In this paper, a PON based open access network (OAN) is analyzed for bi-directional communication at various data rates. Multiple wavelengths are used to modulate the data of various service providers to evade the complicated DBA for uplink data broadcasting. The performance of the network is reported in terms of bandwidth exploitation, uplink effectiveness, overhead-to-data ratio and time cycle duration. The network is analyzed at various data rates to reveal the data accommodation capacity.

Laser-induced self-organization in Se–Te–Sn–Cd glassy semiconductor for developing novel light-sensing dielectrics

The laser-induced effects on dielectric properties of chalcogenide glass(Ch Gs) have been present in a glassy system of Se–Te–Sn–Cd for possible applications in optics and optoelectronics such as light-controlled capacitance-based touch displays. The temperature/frequency dependence of dielectric relaxation before and after laser exposure was investigated by using laser sources of different wavelengths(405 nm, 532 nm, 690 nm, and 785 nm). The result showed the presence of laser-induced residual effects on dielectric properties(dielectric constant/loss and a.c. conductivity) after the exposure of continuous-wave laser sources of chosen *** analysis indicates that the modification in the meta-stable state due to self-organization is the feasible mechanism of observed persistent light-sensing effects.
