Perturbations in Earth’s Atmosphere over An Indian Region during the Total solar Eclipse on 22 July 2009

During a total solar eclipse(TsE)on 22 July 2009,atmospheric perturbations were monitored from the surface to thermosphere to understand TsE’s impact on the meteorological(temperature,relative humidity,wind speed,and wind direction)and chemical(O3 and NOx)parameters around Kadapa(14.28°N,78.42°E),a tropical semi-arid region of *** this purpose,an experiment was conducted at Yogi Vemana University Campus,Kadapa,India,to measure the temperature,wind speed,wind direction,and concentrations of ozone(O3),NO,NO2,and NOx by using the automatic weather station(AWs)and O3 *** the eclipse day(22 July 2009),the surface observations at Kadapa showed a reduction in temperature(about 1.1℃)because of the solar *** of the thermal,dynamical(wind),and chemical parameters on the TsE day with control days[preceding(21 July 2009)and succeeding(23 July 2009)the TsE]illustrated the influence of solar *** the eclipse period,the O3 mixing ratio decreased,while NO2 and NOx increased;however,NO remained *** addition,radio occultation(RO)temperature profiles from Constellation Observing system for Meteorology,Ionosphere,and Climate(COsMIC)/Formosat satellite Mission(FORMOsAT-3)and Thermosphere,Ionosphere,and Mesosphere Energetics and Dynamics(TIMED)satellites were utilized to understand the impact of TsE on dynamics of the middle and upper atmosphere from tropopause to the *** vertical resolution COsMIC observations revealed that during the solar eclipse,tropopause was cooler with twin peaks(double tropopause).The lower thermosphere between 110 and 130 km became warmer during the TsE,which might be caused by the dynamical response of the atmosphere in this region to the solar *** experimental data have provided very fine-scale variations of the atmospheric parameters both in time and height and also constituted a new set of results on TsE for further research.

Ecological study of Bryophytes on Platanus orientalis L. Trees in Nainital (Western Himalaya)

The bryophytic vegetation associated with Platanus orientalis trees were studied and compared with other important tree species of Nainital. In total 27 mosses and liverworts belonging to 14 families with three morphological groups formed the principle component of Platanus orientalis tree bark. Based on IVI (Important Value Index), Regmatodon orthostegius together with Brachymenium capitulatum formed the pioneer community, while Herpetineuron toccoae formed the climax community on the Platanus orientalis stems. Comparison of the bryoflora of P. orientalis with other dominant trees of this locality indicated that 15 species were common, while 12 species viz., Didymodon vinealis (Brid.) R.H., Bryoerythrophyllum dentatum (Mitt.) Chen, Gemmabryum apiculatum (schw?gr.), Ditrichum heteromallum (Hedw.) Britt., Entodon chloropus Ren. & Card., Cylindrothecium laetum (Griff.) Paris, Fabronia schensiana C. Muell., Lejeunea tuberculosa stephani, Levierella neckeroides (Griff.), Regmatodon orthostegius Mont., Rhynchostegiella menadensis (Lac.) Bartr. and stereophyllum fulvum (Harv.) Jaeg. were confined to the tree barks of P. orientalis.

A novel double side friction stir Z shape lap-butt welding(Ds-FsZW)process was proposed to achieve excellent mechanical properties of Al/Cu medium-thick dissimilar *** influence of welding parameters on weld microstructure and properties of Ds-FsZW joint were systematically *** indicated that defect-free medium-thick Al/Cu Ds-FsZW joint could be achieved under an optimal welding ***-FsZW joint was prone to form void defects in the bottom of the second-pass *** recrystallization mechanisms at the top and middle of the weld nugget zone(WNZ)were continuous dynamic recrystallization(CDRX)and geometric dynamic recrystallization(GDRX).While the major recrystallization mechanism at the bottom of the WNZ was ***-FsZW joint of the optimal welding condition with 850 r/min-400 mm/min was produced with a continuous thin and crack-free IMCs layer at the Al/Cu interface,and the maximum tensile strength of this joint is 160.57 MPa,which is equivalent to 65.54%of pure Cu base ***,the corrosion resistance of Al/Cu Ds-FsZW joints also achieved its maximum value at the optimal welding parameter of 850 r/min-400 mm/*** demonstrates that the Ds-FsZW process can simultaneously produce medium-thick Al/Cu joints with excellent mechanical performance and corrosion resistance.

Performance evaluation for selectivity of the flocculant on hematite in selective flocculation

Increased demand for iron ore necessitates the utilization of low-grade iron ore fines, slimes, and existing tailings. selective flocculation can be an alternative physico-chemical process for utilizing these low-grade fines, slimes, and tailings. In selective fiocculation, the most critical objective is the selection of proper reagents that will make fioc of desired minerals. In present study, selective flocculation was applied to ultra-fine synthetic mixtures of hematite and kaolinite, and the Fe value was upgraded up to 65.78% with the reduction of Al2O3 and siO2 values to 2.65% and 3.6670, respectively. Here, degraded wheat starch was used as a *** this process, separation occurs on the basis of the selectivity of the flocculant. The selectivity of the fiocculant can be quantified in terms of separation efficiency. Here, an attempt was also made to develop a correlation between separation efficiency and major operating parameters such as flocculent dose, pH value, and solid concentration to predict the separation performance.

Influence of slope position and aspect on the vegetation attributes and treewater relations in forests of the central Himalayas

While the need for understanding the effects of topographical factors on forest structure and function is well recognized,comprehensive studies are *** study evaluates the effect of slope aspect and slope position on water relations and forest attributes across six forest types occurring between 400 m and 2600 m altitude in the Central Himalaya(27°-38°N).We found that predawn tree water potential and soil water potential were generally higher on moist north slope aspect(-0.78±0.05 MPa and-3.34±0.18 MPa,respectively)than dry south slope aspect(-0.82±0.18 MPa and-3.77±0.18 MPa,respectively).Across six different forests,these values were higher at hill base(-0.71±0.06 MPa and-2.77±0.19 MPa,tree predawn water potential and soil water potential,respectively)than other topographical *** favorable effect of north aspect and hill base was also observed in maintaining soil water and tree water potential during the dry *** attributes,such as species richness,unique species and plant density were also generally higher on north slope and hill base than southern aspect and lowest at hill *** forest types,the hill base provided shelter to 46 unique species,compared to 16-18 at the other positions,thus emphasizing its importance as refugia for species to survive climate change induced *** favorable conditions of hill base position not only contribute to increase in alpha diversity,but also to extended species distributional range.

Artificial neural network approach to assess selective flocculation on hematite and kaolinite

Because of the current depletion of high grade reserves, beneficiation of low grade ore, tailings produced and tailings stored in tailing ponds is needed to fulfill the market demand. selective flocculation is one alternative process that could be used for the beneficiation of ultra-fine material. This process has not been extensively used commercially because of its complex dependency on process parameters. In this paper, a selective flocculation process, using synthetic mixtures of hematite and kaolinite in different ratios, was attempted, and the ad-sorption mechanism was investigated by Fourier transform infrared （FTIR） spectroscopy. A three-layer artificial neural network （ANN） model （4？4？3） was used to predict the separation performance of the process in terms of grade, Fe recovery, and separation efficiency. The model values were in good agreement with experimental values.

The grid DEM(digital elevation model) generation can be from any of a number of sources:for instance,analogue to digital conversion of contour maps followed by application of the TIN model,or direct elevation point modelling via digital photogrammetry applied to airborne images or satellite ***,apart from the deployment of point-clouds from LiDAR data acquisition,the generally favoured approach refers to applications of digital *** of the most important steps in such deployment is the stereo matching process for conjugation point(pixel) establishment:very difficult in modelling any homogenous areas like water cover or forest canopied areas due to the lack of distinct spatial *** a result,application of automated procedures is sure to generate erroneous elevation *** this paper,we present and apply a method for improving the quality of stereo DEMs generated via utilization of an entropy texture *** filter was applied for extraction of homogenous areas before stereo matching so that a statistical texture filter could then be applied for removing anomalous evaluation values prior to interpolation and accuracy assessment via deployment of a spatial correlation *** exemplification,we used a stereo pair of AsTER 1B images.
