Structural and luminescence enhancement properties of Eu^(3+)/Ag nanocrystallites doped SiO_2-TiO_2 matrices

We reported here the structural and optical characterisation of silver nanocrystallites/Eu3＋：SiO2-TiO2 matrices synthesised through sol-gel route. Structural characterisations were done by using energy dispersive spectroscopy （EDX）, X-ray diffraction （XRD）, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy （FTIR）, atomic force microscope （AFM） and transmission electron microscopy （TEM） measurements and optical characterisations were performed by absorption and emission spectroscopy. The TEM and XRD measurements confirmed the presence of nanocrystals. A broad absorption band was observed due to surface plasmon resonance of silver nanocrystals. The effect of silver nanocrystals on the emission spectrum of Eu3＋ doped SiO2-TiO2 matrices was discussed. An attempt was made to explain this fluorescence enhancement by invoking phenomena such as energy transfer, asymmetry ratio, surface plasmon, surface roughness, crystallinity and grain boundary. Our analysis, based on the experimental results, suggested that all the phenomena except crystallinity and grain boundary had favourable effects on fluorescence enhancement. We also estimated the relevant parameters associated with the phenomena that affected the fluorescence emission from the Eu3＋ ions in the matrix. It was seen that the theoretical estimate of fluorescence enhancement agreed well with the experimental estimate.

防止外来生物入侵造成危害的重要手段是阻止可能造成入侵的物种进入适合其生存的地区。论文以1864个美国外来入侵物种斑马纹贻贝定点发生数据和开放式基础地理信息数据库Daymet的34个环境变量为主要信息源,采用逻辑斯蒂回归(LR)、分类与回归树模型(CART)、基于规则的遗传算法(GARP)、最大熵法(Maxent)4种途径,建立美国大陆部分潜在生境预测模型,从接受者运行特征曲线下面积(AUC)、Pearson相关系数、Kappa值3个方面来检验模型预测精度,在此基础上分析斑马纹贻贝的空间分布规律及其环境影响因素。研究结果表明:在3个评价指标中,4个生态位模型预测精度均达到优良水平,其中Maxent在物种现实生境模拟、主要生态环境因子筛选、环境因子对物种生境影响的定量描述方面都表现出了优越的性能;距水源距离、海拔高度、降水频率、太阳辐射是影响物种空间分布的主要环境因子。论文提出的研究方法对中国外来入侵物种生境预测具有较强的借鉴意义,研究结果对中国海洋外来入侵物种沙筛贝的预测与防治,具有一定的指导作用。

以2002年印度野牛(Bos gaurus)印度次大陆的空间分布图和开放式生态环境数据库的30个环境变量为主要信息源,采用逻辑斯蒂回归(LR)、分类与回归树模型(CART)、基于规则的遗传算法(GARP)、最大熵法(Maxent)4种生态位模型,进行印度野牛印度大陆部分潜在生境预测。结果表明:4个预测模型总体性能相差不大,其中,Maxent模型单项指标、总体平均值均最高;年平均降水量、温度季节性变化、林木覆盖率、标准归一化植被指数、海拔高度、距主要道路距离是影响印度野牛空间分布的主要环境因子;增加林木覆盖率、减少道路修建引起的生境破碎化、保证水源是印度野牛保护的主要措施。

Objective:To compare conventional surgery and ultrasound guided foam sclerotherapy for primary superficial venous insufficiency(SVI)with respect to obliteration of superficial venous system,clinical outcome and ***:The study was conducted between September 2005 and March 2006,in Surgery department of Christian Medical College Hospital,*** patients with symptomatic primary venous insufficiency of lower limbs requiring definitive management were randomized to conventional surgery(n=30)or ultrasound guided foam sclerotherapy(n=30).Obliteration of superficial venous system at 3 months,clinical outcome and costs were ***:Superficial venous system was obliterated in all the patients of both the groups at 3 *** in clinical scores and complication rates was similar in both the *** foam sclerotherapy group had less analgesic requirement,earlier return to work and lower ***:Foam sclerotherapy is a cheaper alternative to surgery for primary venous insufficiency with respect to early measures of clinical outcome.

As metabolic centers, plant organelles participate in maintenance, defense, and signaling. MSH1 is a plant- specific protein involved in organeUar genome stability in mitochondria and plastids. Plastid depletion of MSH1 causes heritable, non-genetic changes in development and DNA methylation. We investigated the rash I phenotype using hemi-complementation mutants and transgene-null segregants from RNAi suppres- sion lines to sub-compartmentalize MSH1 effects. We show that MSH1 expression is spatially regulated, specifically localizing to plastids within the epidermis and vascular parenchyma. The protein binds DNA and localizes to plastid and mitochondrial nucleoids, but fractionation and protein-protein interactions data indicate that MSH1 also associates with the thylakoid membrane. Plastid MSH1 depletion results in variegation, abiotic stress tolerance, variable growth rate, and delayed maturity. Depletion from mitochon- dria results in 7%-10% of plants altered in leaf morphology, heat tolerance, and mitochondrlal genome sta- bility. MSH1 does not localize within the nucleus directly, but plastid depletion produces non-genetic changes in flowering time, maturation, and growth rate that are heritable independent of MSH 1. MSH1 deple- tion alters non-photoactive redox behavior in plastids and a sub-set of mitochondrially altered lines. Ectopic expression produces deleterious effects, underlining its strict expression control. Unraveling the complexity of the MSH1 effect offers insight into triggers of plant-specific, transgenerational adaptation behaviors.

The cryptic lifestyle of most fungi necessitates molecular identification of the guild in environmental *** the past decades,rapid development and affordability of molecular tools have tremendously improved insights of the fungal diversity in all ecosystems and ***,in spite of the progress of molecular methods,knowledge about functional properties of the fungal taxa is vague and interpretation of environmental studies in an ecologically meaningful manner remains *** order to facilitate functional assignments and ecological interpretation of environmental studies we introduce a user friendly traits and character database FungalTraits operating at genus and species hypothesis *** the information from previous efforts such as FUNGuild and FunFun together with involvement of expert knowledge,we reannotated 10,210 and 151 fungal and Stramenopila genera,*** resulted in a stand-alone spreadsheet dataset covering 17 lifestyle related traits of fungal and Stramenopila genera,designed for rapid functional assignments of environmental *** order to assign the trait states to fungal species hypotheses,the scientific community of experts manually categorised and assigned available trait information to 697,413 fungal ITS *** the basis of those sequences we were able to summarise trait and host information into 92,623 fungal species hypotheses at 1%dissimilarity threshold.
