Initial Stability Study of Calcium Phosphate Coated Dental Implants

Thin film of biodegradable calcium phosphate coated on threaded commercially pure titanium （ cp- Ti ） dental implants has been investigated as one of alternatives to eliminate the problem of the long- term instability of plasma sprayed HA coated implants. In order to compare in-vivo bone-to-implant response behavior among as-machined, HA coated and CMP coated groups, each group was implanted into New Zealand white mature male rabbits for 2 and 6 weeks, and then in-vivo biological behavior was examined in terms of H＆E staining. Initial stability and removable torques of implants were compared among three groups. Measured removable torque of CMP coated specimen at 6 weeks after inplantation was significantly higher than that of non-coated group, but slightly lower than that of HA coated group, without any inflammatory response at the surrounding of the implants. The initial stability （ ISQ value ; implant stability quotient ） of CMP coated specimen at 2 weeks after implantation was slightly lower than that of HA coated group and significantly higher than that of non-coated group. However, after 6 weeks, ISQ value of CMP coated group was slightly higher than that of HA coated group and significantly higher than that of non-coated group.

Objective: We aimed to evaluate the effect of simultaneous cholecystectomy on the short-term postoperative outcomes and nutritional status in patients with gastric ***: We retrospectively reviewed data from 4,820 patients with gastric cancer who underwent gastrectomy from January 2011 to December 2016. Patients who underwent only gastrectomy(N=4,578) were matched to those who underwent simultaneous cholecystectomy during gastrectomy(N=242) at a 1:1 ratio using propensity score matching analysis. The nutritional status and inflammatory responses preoperatively and postoperatively and postoperative outcomes were compared between the ***: The simultaneous cholecystectomy group showed more intraoperative blood loss and a longer operative time than the gastrectomy only group [150.0(100.0, 200.0) m L vs. 100.0(100.0, 200.0) m L, P=0.006;176.0(150.0,210.0) min vs. 155.0(128.0, 188.0) min, P<0.001, respectively]. Intraoperative event rate, postoperative complication rate, and postoperative recovery did not differ between the groups. All parameters including body weight, the hemoglobin level, absolute lymphocyte count, total protein level, albumin level, fasting glucose level,and prognostic nutritional index excluding the cholesterol level were not significantly different between the groups,and their changing patterns were similar. Although the cholesterol level was significantly lower in the simultaneous cholecystectomy group than in the gastrectomy only group at all follow-up points, the mean value of the decreased cholesterol level was within normal ***: In gastric cancer patients with gallbladder disease, simultaneous cholecystectomy is safe and not associated with additional nutritional loss.

We evaluated the settling ability and dewaterability of granulated methane-oxidizing bacteria （GMOB） after granulation using a continuous-flow reactor. A comparative analysis on settling and dewatering characteristics due to changes in sludge retention time （SRT, 10, 15 and 20 days） during cultivation of GMOB was conducted. In assessing dewaterability, the specific resistance to filtration （SRF） of activated sludge and GMOB was found to be 8.21×1013-2.38×1014 and 4.88 × 1012-1.98×1013 m/kg, respectively. It was confirmed that as SRT decreased, SRF of GMOB increased. In the case of bound extracellular polymeric substance （EPS）, activated sludge registered 147.5 mg/g-VSS while GMOB exhibited 171-177.2 mg/g-VSS. In the case of extracellular polymeric substance soluble EPS in effluent, activated sludge measured 62 mg/L and GMOB had 17.4-21.4 mg/L. The particle size analysis showed that mean particle diameters of GMOB were 402, 369, and 350 μm, respectively, at SRTs of 20, 15 and 10 days. In addition, it was found that GMOB had a larger mean particle diameter and exhibited much better settleability and dewaterability than activated sludge did.

The effect of laser assisted local heating on the mechanical properties of a hot stamping steel tube was in vestigated. A heated region with a spiral shape was generated on the surface of the tube by combining the linear movement of the laser and the rotation of the tube. The results of axial crush tests show that the laser assisted local heating can be effectively used to modify the mechanical performance of the tube. A microstructural analysis confirms that the laser locally induces a martensitic phase transformation in the heated region and results in inhomogeneous microstructures alon- the length of the tube.

Vitamin C and taurine (TR) are well known as active components for fatigue recovery. However, the mechanism of the anti-fatigue effects of vitamin C and TR is still unclear. Our study was designed to evaluate the anti-fatigue activities of vitamin C and TR in an animal test for fatigue and to compare the activities between vitamin C and TR. Materials and Methods: Vitamin C, TR or their combination were orally administrated to mice once daily for 15 days, and then metabolic activities such as blood glucose, triglyceride (TG), lactate, and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) as well as antioxidant activities such as malondialdehyde (MDA) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) were determined (evaluated) after forced swimming test (FST). Results: Compared with the control group, C100, C200, and T50 showed a tendency to decrease mobility in FST. Moreover, TG (C100, C200, T200), LDH (C200), lactic acid (C100) and MDA (C50, C100, C200) levels were inhibited by vitamin C and TR. Conclusions: These results suggest that vitamin C and TR have anti-fatigue activities in mice, with vitamin C providing a stronger effect.

AIM:To investigate the correlation between the nutritional risk index (NRI) and postoperative wound ***:From January 2008 through June 2008,669 patients who underwent curative gastrectomy for gastric cancer were included in a retrospective *** records of consecutive patients were collected and analyzed to determine postoperative wound complication *** NRI was assessed on the fifth postoperative day and other possible risk factors for the incidence of wound complications were analyzed to identify the factors affecting postoperative wound *** with other postoperative complications were excluded from the ***:On the 5th postoperative day,the NRI showed a malnutrition rate of 84.6% among postoperative ***,postoperative wound complications occurred in only 66/669 (9.86%) *** the patients with wound complications,62/66 (94%) belonged to the malnourished group (NRI < 97.5),and 4/66 (6%) patients to the non-malnourished group (NRI ≥ 97.5).The only factor correlated with wound complications was the NRI on the 5th postoperative day (odds ratio of NRI ≥ 97.5 vs NRI < 97.5:0.653;95% confidence interval:0.326-0.974;P=0.014) according to univariate analysis as well as multivariate ***:This study suggests that malnutrition immediately after surgery may play a significant role in the development of wound complications.

Restoration of an Inner-City Stream and Its Impact on Air Temperature and Humidity Based on Long-Term Monitoring Data

Spatiotemporal changes in air temperature and humidity associated with the restoration of an innercity stream in Seoul, Korea, are investigated based on long-term monitoring data. The Cheonggye stream, covered under a concrete structure for 46 years, was restored in 2005 and runs 5.8 km eastward through a central region of Seoul. Long-term monitoring of the air temperature and relative humidity was made along the stream throughout the restoration and across the stream after the restoration. The area along the stream had a higher air temperature than the entire metropolitan area. The temperature anomaly between the monitoring area and the surrounding metropolitan area was 0.13℃ lower on average at the center of the stream after the restoration. The stream＇s effect on the air temperature was also evident in the temperature distribution along a street traversing the stream. The relative and specific humidities were increased due to the restoration. The restored stream modified the nearby urban climate in the opposite direction compared to urbanization. The results could be used as a model case in mitigating urban climate by a stream in future urban planning practices.

Entacapone,a catechol-O-methyltransferase inhibitor,can strengthen the therapeutic effects of levodopa on the treatment of Parkinson’s ***,few studies are reported on whether entacapone can affect hippocampal neurogenesis in *** investigate the effects of entacapone,a modulator of dopamine,on proliferating cells and immature neurons in the mouse hippocampal dentate gyrus,60 mice(7 weeks old)were randomly divided into a vehicle-treated group and the groups treated with 10,50,or 200 mg/kg *** results showed that 50 and 200 mg/kg entacapone increased the exploration time for novel object *** staining results revealed that after entacapone treatment,the numbers of Ki67-positive proliferating cells,doublecortin-positive immature neurons,and phosphorylated cAMP response element-binding protein(pCREB)-positive cells were significantly *** blot analysis results revealed that treatment with tyrosine kinase receptor B(TrkB)receptor antagonist significantly decreased the exploration time for novel object recognition and inhibited the expression of phosphorylated TrkB and brain-derived neurotrophic factor(BDNF).Entacapone treatment antagonized the effects of TrkB receptor *** results suggest that entacapone treatment promoted hippocampal neurogenesis and improved memory function through activating the BDNF-TrkB-pCREB *** study was approved by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee of Seoul National University(approval ***-130730-1)on February 24,2014.

Extended lymph node dissection in robot-assisted radical prostatectomy： lymph node yield and distribution of metastases

In this study, we reported our experience performing robotic extended lymph node dissection （eLND） in patients with prostate cancer. A total of 147 patients with intermediate and high-risk prostate cancer who underwent robotic eLND from May 2008 to December 2011 were included in this analysis. The dissection template extended to the ureter crossing the iliac vessels. We assessed lymph node yield, lymph node positivity, and perioperative outcomes. Lymph node positivity was also evaluated according to the number of lymph nodes （LNs） removed （〈22 vs 〉22）. The median number of LNs removed was 22 （11-51）, and 97 positive LNs were found in 24 patients （16.3%）. While the obturator fossa was the most common site for LN metastases （42.3%, 41/97）, the internal iliac area was the most common area for a single positive LN packet （20.8%, 5/24）. Eight patients （33.3%, 8/24） had positive LNs at the common iliac area. The incidence of positive LNs did not differ according to the number of LNs removed. Complications associated with eLND occurred in 21 patients （14.3%） and symptomatic lymphocele was found in five patients （3.4%）. In conclusion, robotic eLND can be performed with minimal morbidity. Furthermore, LN yield and the node positive rate achieved using this robotic technique are comparable to those of open series. In addition, the extent of dissection is more important than the absolute number of LNs removed in eLND, and the robotic technique is not a prohibitive factor for performing eLND.
